Morality And Religious Beliefs

Pokémon has been criticized by some fundamentalist Christians over perceived occult and violent themes and the concept of “Pokémon evolution”, which they feel goes against the Biblical creation account in Genesis.Sat2000, a satellite television station based in Vatican City, has countered that the Pokémon Trading Card Game and video games are “full of inventive imagination” and have no “harmful moral side effects”. In the United Kingdom, the “Christian Power Cards” game was introduced in 1999 by David Tate who stated, “Some people aren’t happy with Pokémon and want an alternative, others just want Christian games.” The game was similar to the Pokémon Trading Card Game but used Biblical figures.

In 1999, Nintendo stopped manufacturing the Japanese version of the “Koga’s Ninja Trick” trading card because it depicted a manji, a traditionally Buddhist symbol with no negative connotations. The Jewish civil rights group Anti-Defamation League complained because the symbol is the reverse of a swastika, a Nazi symbol. The cards were intended for sale in Japan only, but the popularity of Pokémon led to import into the United States with approval from Nintendo. The Anti-Defamation League understood that the portrayed symbol was not intended to offend and acknowledged the sensitivity that Nintendo showed by removing the product.

In 1999, two nine-year-old boys from Merrick, New York, sued Nintendo because they claimed the Pokémon Trading Card Game caused their problematic gambling.

Depending On Version Different Pokemon Are Available

Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal added strong new monsters, but for each version of the game, there are different creatures available for capture. Common Pokemon like Zubat and Pidgey can be commonly found in all versions, but some are exclusive to each distinct version. The Gold version exclusively has the Mankey, Growlithe, Spinarak, and Teddiursa evolutionary lines, in addition to Gligar and Mantine. Silver, on the other hand, has the Meowth, Vuplix, Ledyba, and Phanphy evolutionary lines and the single-stage Pokemon Skarmory and Delibird. The Crystal version is a little bit different from Gold and Silver when it comes to available Pokemon.

Pokemon Crystal is the third game of the 2nd generation, and it’s generally considered to be a refinement of Gold and Silver. Crystal has all the usual Pokemon a gamer might expect, but some notable omissions can only be obtained by trading with the other games of the 2nd and 1st generations. The starter Pokemon from the 1st generation and their later forms can’t be found in Crystal, in addition to the legendary monsters from those games. Some new Pokemon are unavailable as well, including the Mareep and Remoraid evolutionary line, and Girafarig. 1st generation Pokemon Vulpix and Mankey and their evolutions are unavailable too.

Johto’s Heart And Soul

Ever since the Generation III remakes for the incompatible Generation IRed and Green games, Pokémon fans have widely speculated that remakes of the Generation II Pokémon games, Gold and Silver, would be made for Nintendo DS. Indeed, the paired remakes, titled HeartGold and SoulSilver, were eventually released in Japan on September 12, 2009, and were released in the United States on March 14, 2010. The games were referred to in the anime in an episode that featured the counterpart of the new player character and the three starter Pokémon of Johto, one of whom even joined the regular cast. A new expansion set for the TCG was also released to celebrate the new games.

Some manga series followed the release of the games, such as a new sequel to Pokémon Pocket Monsters, titled Pocket Monsters HGSS, of which the first volume was released in June 28, 2011. A new chapter of Pokémon Adventures was released, with the first volume coming out in June 28, 2012.

The Game’s Unique Code

As previously mentioned, every Nintendo DS game has a 10-digit code at the bottom of the cartridge’s sticker. The code can be broken down as follows:

  • System code The first three digits display the letters NTR. This stands for “Nitro,” a code name for the Nintendo DS during its development. Every game features these letters at the beginning of the code.
  • Game code Every game has a four-digit, game-specific code relative to their region. As can be seen above, Pokémon HeartGold has a game code of IPKE in North America and IPKP in Europe and Australia. Keep in mind your game’s region when buying, and compare the game code to other cartridges being sold online.
  • Region code Make sure the region code corroborates the game code. USA for North America, EUR for Europe/Australia, and JPN for Japan. A genuine North American copy of Pokémon HeartGold should always have the code NTR-IPKE-USA at the bottom of the sticker.

Aesthetic And Gameplay Changes In Crystal

The Pokemon series makes changes in every generation and in the case of Pokemon Crystal, further changes were made to generation two. One of the major additions in Crystal is the ability for players to play as a female, which is a feature that would go on to be a series staple. Some locations received updated color palettes and layouts, marking minor changes from Gold and Silver. Pokemon sprites received short animations as well, which many gamers consider being a small but significant aesthetic update.

The Crystal version features a new subplot involving the mysterious Unown Pokemon. This side quest rewards players with some extra lore related to the origins of the enigmatic pocket monsters. Kurt, the Poke Ball maker, can also make several balls at once. This was seen as a huge quality of life improvement by players frustrated with only being able to have one crafted at a time. Another small yet significant change in Crystal relates to trainers. The trainers who contact the player now inform them of rare items in their possession, and uncommon Pokemon in their area.

Pokemon Gameboy The Start Of Something Special

Pokemon Unite: 7 Things You Need to Know

But to understand the Pokemon phenomenon, you have to look at the mind behind it. Satoshi Tajiri, the designer of the game, started working as a publisher for game freak, a fanzine about video games he created himself. The original edition of the fanzine was written by hand and distributed independently.

Later on, the young Satoshi started working with a man by the name of Ken Sugimori who began working as an illustrator for the fanzine. After many discussions with his team, Satoshi realized that video games were lacking in quality. He and his team then decided that the best idea was to released their own games.

Satoshi then started to learn the programming language that was necessary to develop games on the Nintendo Famicom, which was the prominent Nintendo console at the time in Japan. Satoshi and his team pitched their first game to Namco, which was named Quinty, and the game had relative success.

Satoshi then began working with the game boy console and evolved the concept for the Pokemon game. Nintendo was so impressed by the idea that they decided to elaborate on the concept. Satoshi wanted to exploit the connectivity options of the game boy console by allowing players to interact and collaborate with each other instead of just competing.

The Early Wireless Connection

Wireless Internet has become so big a part of our daily lives, that it would be hard to go back to how it was before. If a Mad Max scenario happens, and the Internet is destroyed forever, then most of us will have no function in the new society. People will be drawing pictures of their dinner, and showing it to strangers on the street for approval. List based Internet writers will have to crawl from their pits, scuttle out of their front door, and face the harsh rays of the sun in order to find sustenance.

Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen came packed with a wireless adapter for local play. It wasn’t until Pokémon Diamond & Pearl that the series made full use of the Internet, through the use of the Nintendo DS’ Wi-Fi capabilities.

In Japan, the Pokémon series had access to wireless functions as far back as the second generation of games. In Pokémon Crystal, the Japanese players could connect to a mobile phone network with the aid of a special adapter. The wireless service, known as Mobile System GB, allowed players to hold brief, ten minute battles over the network.

Due to the relative scarceness of mobile phones in America at the time of release, the Mobile System was not implemented into the English language versions of Pokémon Crystal. Its legacy lives on, with the current wireless features of the 3DS Pokémon games.

Back To Kanto And Onward To The Battle Frontier

On January 29, 2004, two new games were released in Japan: Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. They arrived in North America on September 9, 2004, and were remakes of Pokémon Red and Green which brought the games up to Generation III standards, as well as adding wireless connectivity and a new region the Sevii Islands. These games also gave the event PokémonDeoxystwo additional forms, which could only be obtained by moving Deoxys to a FireRed or LeafGreen cartridge.

Not yet finished with the Hoenn story, Game Freak developed a third version to complement Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Pokémon Emerald. This game was released in Japan on September 16, 2004, and in North America on May 1, 2005. Emerald featured the same wireless connectivity as FireRed and LeafGreen, as well as an updated version of Hoenn with many new features, including the Hoenn Battle Frontier, the ability to re-battle Gym Leaders, an altered plot, and animations for all Pokémon, as in Crystal.

The animecaught up with both the Generation I remakes and Emerald by having the group travel back to Kanto and face the Kanto Battle Frontier there. During this season’s time two more movies were produced: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea .
