Her Fennekin Burned Her In The Face
Serena’s skill as a trainer is not… great. She improves over the course of the anime, but in the beginning she let her emotions influence her Pokémon too much. Once she got upset with her Fennekin after a bad Performance rehearsal, her Fennekin responded by shooting her with Flamethrower. Serena wasn’t injured though and the two made up later.
Weirdly, this is a tradition in the anime. Trainers getting burned in the face by their starter Fire Pokémon. Previously it happened to Dawn with her Cyndaquil and it started way back with Ash and his Charizard. What an odd tradition.
Her Pokmon Team Is Never Consistent
Across her multiple incarnations, Serena’s Pokémon team never stays the same. Heck, her anime version doesn’t even have a full team. That Serena only has three Pokémon a Fennekin, a Pancham, and a Sylveon. Of those three, her game counterpart only has one. Sort of. Game Serena can have a Fennekin, but only if the player character is male and has a Chespin. Her manga counterpart, Y, seems to mix the two together. Y has Anime Serena’s Sylveon and Game Serena’s Absol, but her starter is the water-type Froakie. She also seems to have stolen her mother’s Rhyhorn. Nice girl.
She’s Afraid Of Ghosts
Not Ghost Pokémon. Actual ghosts. Several times in the anime, it’s shown that Serena is superstitious when it comes to haunted houses and forests. She’ll let her reason get away from her and speculate wildly about horrible things. Now this is something that has never made sense in Pokémon, from the very beginning.

Till We Compete Again
This episode serves as the finale of Pokemon the Series: XY, as well as Serena’s latest appearance in the anime. Many characters say their tearful goodbyes to each other, including Professor Sycamore, Bonnie, and Clemont. However, the episode’s biggest emotional moment comes from Serena’s departure from Ash’s travels.
Having accepted Palermo’s invite to join her in Hoenn, Serena and Ash part ways at the Kalos airport. Chloe Cerise is a character appearing in the Pokémon Journeys: The Series. She is the daughter of Professor Cerise and Talia Cerise, and Parker Cerises older sister. She normally attends school in Vermilion City. Although Chloe is 10 years old, she stayed in school, instead of traveling on a Pokémon journey.

One of the most common criticisms of Goh is how he catches Pokémon. Up until Pokémon Journeys, every series of the anime has hammered home the point that a Pokémon must be weakened in battle before you can catch it. Serena’s Mother’s Passion For Rhyhorn Was Crazy
A big part of the reason Serena was so confused about what to do with her future was because of the pressure that her mother placed on her to become a Rhyhorn racer. Her mother was a famous Rhyhorn racer, who absolutely adored the sport and wanted to encourage her daughter to follow in her footsteps. Her relationship with her mother, and an accident during Rhyhorn racing practice, actually caused her to hate the Pokémon itself, until she taught Ash how to race Rhyhorn.
Right before Ash was taken by Team Rocket, the two spent a day together teaching Ash the sport. During that same day, Serena realized that she actually had a connection with Rhyhorn, and began to understand why her mother loved it so much. While she didnt want to actually become a racer, she did understand why her mother wanted her to do it.
Serena Chased Ash Into The Woods
While Ash may have saved Serena from the woods the first time the two met, Serena took her opportunity to save HIM from the woods as they were traveling together when they were older.
Ash lost a battle against a trainer named Wulfric and truly let the loss get to him, so he ran away into a forest to be alone. As she was worried, she followed and found him in the forest, trying to convince him to come back.
She explains that his advice to her when they were kids helped HER, and that he should pick himself up. When he yelled in response, she became irate, yelling back that this wasnt the Ash she knew. After throwing a few snowballs she leaves him to be alone.
While they didnt leave the forest together, their talk helped Ash, and once he returned he apologized to Serena and thanks her for her help.

Is Ash A Great Trainer
Considering his experience, Ash is not a particularly great Trainer, but he is a good one. Putting aside the fact he constantly swaps out his team for new members who need a whole lot of training, Ash does not always retain all the lessons learned from previous adventures. Perhaps Pikachus periodic shocks have done more damage than is apparent.
With the exception of Black & White, Ash has continued to improve with basically each new season. XY marked a high point for the character as a Trainer, presenting an Ash that was more mature and strategic.
Pokmon The Series: Diamond And Pearl
Ash wore a black vest with a white collar and yellow stripe, a white short-sleeved undershirt, blue cargo jeans, and black and red sneakers. He also wore a red cap with a blue Poké Ball print. Ash wore the same fingerless gloves he wore in the Advanced series.
Ashs spiky hair is slightly shorter and slightly dull, and his lighting bolt-like markings are short and slightly big.

Dawns Buneary has a crush on Ashs Pikachu. Ash has watched all of Dawns Contests. He did not do this with May because he would sometimes be training his Pokémon instead of watching her. Dawn is the source of some of the moves and strategies used in battle by Ash, which include Ice Aqua Jet & Spin.

The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life
A few episodes before her departure, Serena decides to join Palermo in Hoenn to compete in Pokemon Contests. This decision comes after an episode that shows off how much Serena has grown as a Performer, and a person. Following the reopening of Prism Tower, Serena suggests having a Pokemon Showcase to celebrate.
This episode features a lot of huge moments for Serena as she interacts with her family, her Pokemon, and of course, Ash. The two friends also have their first proper Pokemon battle together, which is called off as the two remark how much they’ve grown. Moments like this for Serena are truly what cement her as one of Ash’s most well-developed traveling companions.
Where Are Misty’s Parents
The only members of Misty’s family the audience is ever shown are her four sisters. Like with other trainers in Pokémon, it’s likely that both of her parents are on their own Pokémon journeys away from their family and the Cerulean gym was handed down to her from her parents.

In the manga adaptation of the anime, Pocket Monsters: The Animation, it is revealed that she and her sisters were actually abandoned by their parents when the role of being gym leaders become too much to handle, subsequently leaving it to their children. Since many aspects of this manga have since been altered in the anime, it is unknown if this is actually canon to her story.

Does Ash Appear In The Main Games
Technically, Ash has never officially appeared in any of the main games. However, the protagonist of Pokémon Red& Yellow, Red, holds many similarities with the animes main character. Both Trainers are from Pallet Town, love to wear hats, and, in Pokémon Yellow, Red also starts with a Pikachu and gets the three main starters Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur along the way.
While Ash is at least partially inspired by Red, and vice-versa for the post-anime RPGs, the games and anime exist in their own universes and are not directly linked. That said, the games have dropped hints that Ash does exist as a separate person to Red. This mostly comes in the form of special events that hand out Pokémon implied to have been owned by Ash.

Pokmon Journeys: The Series
Ash wears a blue vest with yellow outlines, a white undershirt with short sleeves and a red stripe, indigo shorts with black outlines, and black sneakers with blue highlights. He also wears a red cap with a black Poké Ball design formed into the letter C. During his second visit to Galar, he wears a Dynamax Band on his right wrist which he obtains from Leon. Also, Ash sometimes returns to wearing his Z-Power Ring on his left wrist whenever he is battling in an important match, especially World Coordination Series battles.
Ashs sided spike hair has increased a bit and are sharper like they were before, his eyebrows and his spike hair tuft is larger than usually seen in previously. When he is not wearing his hat, his hair remains the same, only smoother and shorter. Ashs two lighting bolt-like markings still remain slightly bigger like they were in the sun and moon series. His eyes are a bit wider than they were before.

She’s The Only Main Character To Have A Permanent Design Change
Ash has changed his outfit a few times, but Serena is the only character to have her new design acknowledged in-universe. The writers even gave it a backstory. After failing in her Pokémon Showcase debut, Serena felt low about herself. This was her life’s goal and she failed. Comforted by her Fennekin, Serena found her courage and cut her hair short to show her resolve. She got herself a new outfit too. Amazingly, she stuck with this design for the rest of the series and never changed back. That’s a first for Pokémon. Her look can be recreated in-game too.
Pokmon’s Ash And Serena Kiss While Saying Goodbye
Thanks to a fan translation shared on Reddit, Pokémon fans were able to learn more about the emotional end to the Pokémon XY& Z anime, and the moment that Serena says goodbye to Ash and Pikachu. As Serena prepares to leave Kalos, she tells Ash that she wants to be more like him, before stepping onto the escalator in farewell. However, she turns and dashes back up the steps as viewers get a slow-motion scene of Ash and Serena’s feet as she goes up on her toes. When she pulls away, she is blushing, and Ash looks awestruck, while Clemont seems embarrassed in the background. After translating an interview in AnimeStyle magazine with Yajima Tetsuo, a director of Pokémon XY& Z, it is revealed that a kiss implied to happen during the scene.
While Serena hasn’t returned in recent seasons, there is hope within the Pokémon fandom that the relationship between herself and Ash will be revisited in future episodes of the anime, or movies. It’s hard to say what the future could be for Ash and Serena, as the Pokémon anime doesn’t usually age the main characters, or cover what happens when they grow up. However there is always a chance that Pokémon fans will have a chance to see Serena again in future cameo appearances, and hopefully add to the relationship between herself and Ash.

Serena Tends To An Injured Ash
Episode:“Day Three Blockbusters!”
In this episode, as the group travels through a forest looking for the ideal location to film a Pokévision segment as part of a summer camp challenge, the ground crumbles under Serena and she begins falling into a ravine. Ash reaches out to save her, but this only causes him to tumble down with her.
With Ash’s ankle twisted, Bonnie and Clemont rush to get help, leaving Serena and Ash to have a personal conversation. Ash, who isn’t upset about his injury, helps Serena understand she’s got plenty of time to decide upon her ultimate goal, and she realizes how determined he is to fulfill his dream of becoming a Pokémon master, even calling him amazing as she bandages his ankle.
Ash also smiles when he sees Serena’s bond with Fennekin if there’s something likely to attract Ash to a girl, it’s her dedication to Pokémon. In short, this was a lengthy exchange full of cute moments demonstrating the two trainers’ affection for one another.

Giving Chase At The Rhyhorn Race
This is Serena’s first episode as Ash’s traveling companion, following her disappointing reunion with Ash in Battling on Thin Ice! Ash now remembers his first meeting with Serena, as she returns him the handkerchief he gifted her back then. Later, the group runs into a pack of Rhyhorn, and Serena impresses the group with her riding skills.
After explaining to Ash that her mother is a famous Rhyhorn racer, Serena teaches him how to ride one. The next day, Ash sets off on a real race while Serena encounters Team Rocket, as the evil trio try to sabotage the Rhyhorn race in an attempt to steal Pikachu. For Serena’s first outing as Ash’s friend, she finds quite the adventure!

Does Misty Have Romantic Feelings For Ash
A running fan theory among the audience is that Misty developed romantic feelings for Ash during their adventures, which is why she spends so much time berating and assaulting him to cover her feelings. Seeing as how Serena was written to be a potential love interest much more clearly, it’s unlikely that Misty in the anime ever had feelings for Ash that are stronger than platonic friendship. Misty in the manga, on the other hand, had strong feelings for Red, the character who Ash was modeled on in the anime, so there is still the possibility of them being a couple.

She Has A Crush On Ash
Unlike all his other female companions, Serena never really argues with Ash. They don’t butt heads or get into petty fights. While this is partly because Serena is just a kind, polite person in general, it’s also because she has a crush on Ash. She has since they were kids. Ever since he rescued her at Professor Oak’s summer camp. When Ash first appeared in Kalos, on the news, Serena was intent on tracking him down to thank him. The anime often shows her blushing when Ash does something cool, and when anyone brings up her feelings for him.

Despite being only 6-ish at this point, Ash acts very reassuring and kind to the strange girl, tending to Serena’s leg, offering her help standing, and guiding her back to the campsite.
Not only was this a beautiful moment , it means that Serenanot Mistywas actually the first of Ash’s female traveling companions to meet him.
