Hello all you fans of the Pokemon Trading Card Game and casual readers. Today well be looking at the top 25 Pokemon Cards in the current standard format. Apologies in advance if any of your favorite cards get left out.

Before we get into the list, lets set some loose criteria for what makes a top card. A top card has relatively high hit points, a good attack and ability , and will help out almost any deck in which you put it . For example, almost any fire or colorless card immediately becomes better when you use the Welder supporter. However, we want to see which cards stand on their own.

When It comes to trainer cards, we will look at which ones are far more powerful and/or versatile than others. For example, Viridian Forest might make the list over Giant Hearth because it is more versatile.

Finally, this disclaimer is to let you know that this list is not what is best for your specific deck, but just best in general. There are always scenarios in which one of these cards might not hold up against a card not on this list. Now lets get into the list.

Deoxys Speed Forme: 180

The third Deoxys form to appear in this list, as well as the fastest Pokémon in the video game series, Deoxys Speed is an incredibly rapid Pokémon. While Deoxys itself is already fast, the speed forme makes it thirty points higher.

While this Pokémon is very fast, it isnt a particularly viable sweeper as its attack and special attack arent exceptionally high. Further, a normal Deoxys or Deoxys Attack is already fast enough to outspeed most Pokémon, so Deoxys Speed Forme is largely considered to be overkill in the speed department.

Stats Modifiers And The Stat Growth Table

You may have seen around the site we use the terminology of stats being raised or lowered by ‘stages’. This is a reference to the stat growth table. When the five battle stats are modified, the amount by which they are modified conforms to a specific calculated multiplier.

Stages

All unmodified stats begin a stage 0 . When a stat modifier move is used, the stage is increased or decrease accordingly, and then the multiplier is applied to the stat. For example, Iron Defense raises Defense by two stages. So say at the beginning of the battle my Metagross uses Iron Defense, its Defense stat will double since an increase from 0 stages to 2 stages doubles the original. Note if I were to use Iron Defense again, it wouldn’t double the current stat – instead, it would take the original stat at 0 stages and multiply it by 3 to give the stat at 4 stages. The upper limit is 6 stages and the lower limit is -6 stages . If a Pokemon tries to increase its stat by more than 6 stages, the move will fail.

In Generation I and Generation II, the game introduces a stat cap of 999 on all stats, so after a multiplier takes effect, the stat will be set at 999 if it exceeds 999. This cap has been removed in Generation III.

Two temporary battle stats that are the same for all Pokemon are accuracy and evade. These two stats operate on a similar but different stat growth table:

CP, or Combat Points, is a measure of how strong your Pokémon will be in battle against another Pokémon, and is actually a combination of several hidden stats. Each Pokémon in Pokémon Go has a set of Base Stats for Attack, Defence, and Stamina, along with a hidden Level and a hidden modifier for those Base Stats, known as a Pokémons IVs.

Its not worth going into too much detail on how all of those stats work but they can essentially be explained with a nice little analogy about dogs:

Greyhounds, often used for dog racing, are a naturally fast breed of dog. Bulldogs, not so fast. Just like Greyhounds are naturally speedy, Dragonites, as a Pokémon species, have naturally high Attack or, in other words, a naturally high Base Stat for Attack contrast that with Machokes which, despite having decent Attack, are somewhat puny by comparison.

However, every now and then you might get a Greyhound that is so slow, and a Bulldog that is so fast, that out of these two individual dogs the Bulldog is actually faster.

So, in Pokémon Go, you might get such a naturally low-Attack Dragonite, and naturally high-Attack Machoke, that youll hit the point where the Machoke actually has a higher overall Attack than the Dragonite. Thats because the Individual Values of the Machoke basically its genes are considerably stronger than those of the Dragonite.

• For our number one spot, lets start by highlighting its hit points. ADP had the third highest HP of any GX Pokemon – 280 – helping to make sure that ADP sticks around to use both of its attacks.
• Altered Creation GX is another one of the GX attacks that stays in effect all game. After using it, your Pokémons attacks deal 30 more damage for the rest of the game. If you have an extra energy, you also get to take an extra prize card when you knock people out.
• ADPs Ultimate Ray attack is very similar to Pikaroms. For three energy you can do 150 damage and search your deck for another three energy to attach to your Pokemon. Dont forget that after using your GX attack, your damage gets boosted to 180.
• One more thing – Arceus, Dialga, & Palkia GX is a dragon type. This means that it is weak to fairy types. Fairy types were recently discontinued as a type which means you probably wont have to worry about any fairies dealing double damage to your ADP.

Is Shadow Lugia Illegal

As a promotional item for Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Lugia card was released for the Trading Card Game. On the card, Shadow Lugia is only able to use the move Shadow Storm, which does a powerful 1000 damage, and has 300HP. Because of this, it is banned from all tournaments. Shadow Lugia Alias XD001.
