Why Are Bug Type Attacks Effective Against Dark Type Pokemon
This question actually originated from the games, but it applies to the anime/manga as well.
Water is strong against fire because water can extinguish fire. Electricity is weak against Grass because grass is grounded, which nullifies electricity.
What is the reasoning for Bug to be effective against Dark type?
And Ive already heard about the Malaria in Africa joke, its not funny!
- Maybe because insects navigate better in the dark and are constantly drawn to the light, So their weakness is fire.Dec 15 12 at 17:35
- 4This question would be a better fit for Arqade, but it would likely be closed as speculative over there. VTCDec 15 12 at 18:53
- 1I actually dont agree with the off-topic closure of this. The question is indeed about the Anime/Manga. Just because it has roots in the game doesnt make it off-topic. Therefore, Im voting to reopen. MysticialDec 16 12 at 5:57
If I had to guess, it was because of game balance more than logic.
There are only two types that are super-effective against Dark.
Neither of which make much logical sense. But it would be fairly safe to say that Dark would be overpowered if it only had one or no weaknesses.
Another argument to support the game-balance motivation is that bug types would otherwise be considered weak since they are super-effective against few other types.
So in short, they probably needed to keep Dark in check and make Bug more competitive.
This sort of balancing isnt particularly new. Psychic is a good example.
Ruined: Secondary Typings Made Some Pokmon Weaker
Normal-type Pokémon are very middling in the meta and because they only have one weakness, it’s hard to go wrong with having one on a team. Generation VI, however, made many Normal types into dual Normal/Fairy. While this gets rid of their Fighting weakness, it adds the same weaknesses that Fairy.
Poison and Steel are still super-effective against these mons, and Normal moves are still resisted against Steel types, making it very difficult to counter. It solves one problem, only to add another two.

List Of Pokemon Go Multipliers
The multipliers for Pokemon Go are as follows:
- Super effective against two types: 2.56x
- Super effective attacks: 1.6x
- Not very effective attacks: 0.625x
- Not very effective against two types: 0.391x
Heres a visualization chart of the type matchup for all of these:
Another difference between Pokemon Go and other games is multiple typings affect damage even further. If a species is weak to two of an opponents types then the multiplier effect would be halved again, as seen by the 0.391 multipliers.
The same applies to a Pokemon being effective against both species types. An example of this is an electric-type versus Gyarados as it is dual water and flying-type two types which are weak against electric.
Taking the time to learn which Pokemon are strong and weak against other types can often give you the edge needed to swing even the toughest fights in your favor. On top of this, familiarizing yourself with Pokemon Gos types will help you in Raid Battles, while also speeding up the process of acquiring those all-important PokeCoins.
Every Pokmon Has A Type
Every Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield has at least one of the 18 types in the game. Some Pokémon, like the Hootoot, even have two types. The entire list of types found in the game are as follows:
You can see what type a particular Pokémon is by looking in your Pokédex or your menu once you encountered the Pokémon in the game.
Even more importantly, every move in the game also has a type, so although you may have a Grass Pokémon like Grookey , you’ll notice that the moves it knows vary by type.
Certain attack types do more damage to certain types of Pokémon, while certain others will do less. There are even some attack types that won’t affect certain Pokémon types at all.

Ruined: Too Many Fairies Mean Some Will Shine More Than The Rest
Even fully loving Fairy-type Pokémon has its disadvantages as a full Fairy team won’t cover their weaknesses well enough. The strongest ones, like the Tapu’s, Mega-Gardevoir, Mimikyu, or Mega-Mawile, are good choices on a team, but being spoiled for choice isn’t always a good thing. Many Fairy-types are just above average in terms of move pools, base stat totals, and versatility. Shiinotic the Grass/Fairy type was added in Gen VII and only has a 405 base stat total; the same as many stage 1 Pokémon like Combusken, Haunter, and Prinplup.
Even Pokémon like Hatterene who has a 510 total are limited by a small move pool of mostly Psychic and Fairy moves. It’s unfortunate, but not every Pokémon is going to be viable to use. Of course, no one can stop players from using their favorites anyway.
Fairy Pokmon Weaknesses And Counters In Pokmon Go
There are two primary counters.
Of all the 18 Pokémon types in the Pokémon franchise, Fairy has the most limited selection of species. The typing was introduced in generation six and is the newest typing to have been added to the series.
Despite the limited number of options, there are still some powerful Fairy-type Pokémon that may give other trainers a run for their money.
In Pokémon Go, all types have a set of strengths and weaknesses that will dictate how they fare in battle. Fairy-type Pokémon are strong against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting-type Pokémon, but are weak to Poison and Steel types. With Fairy Pokémons vulnerability to two different types of moves, theres a variety of counters worth picking if youre going up against Fairy types in your next battle.
Here are some of the best Pokémon to counter Fairy types with in Pokémon Go.

Dragonite Dragonite was the first pseudo-legendary and maintained its status as one of the best Pokemon around. Rayquaza Rayquaza is one of the more powerful Legendary Pokemon.
Improved: Steel & Poison Were Seen As Very Strong
Because of its rise in the meta, many Pokémon rose up in order to eliminate the Fairy types on everyone’s team. This gave counters like Steel and Poison-type Pokémon an edge. Poison was usually a mildly offensive typing as it’s only super-effective against grass while still being resisted by many common typings.
Steel was in a similar state, mostly seen as a defensive typing and only being super-effective against rock and ice. One typing changed a lot more than people realize and making underused typings more viable is a marked improvement for the state of the game.
Is Ice Type Good
Qualities of the Ice type It reveals that the Ice-type is actually a pretty good type offensively. It hits the common Flying-type super effectively, punishes the powerful Dragon-type likewise, and also gets the super effective bonus against Grass and Ground, threatening any STAB users of the ubiquitous Earthquake.
Pokemon Go Type Chart: Strengths Effectiveness Weaknesses And Resistances Explained
In Pokemon Go, Every type of Pokemon has four different relationships with other types any trainer should be aware of. That is:
- Strong Against: represented on our type chart as Strong Vs, attacks from the listed type against the type listed here will deal additional damage to your opponent. This is ‘Super Effective’.
- Weak Against: represented here as Weak Vs, attacks from the listed type against these types will do less damage to the enemy. This is ‘Not very effective…’
- Resistance: listed as resist, taking attacks from this type will do much less damage to you.
- Vulnerable: your type’s weaknesses. Attacks of these types will deal more damage – watch out!
So, for instance, Offensively a Ground-type Pokemon/move is Strong against Poison, Rock, Steel, Fire and Electric types, dealing double damage to them. It only does 50% damage against Flying, Bug and Grass Pokemon. Defensively, that same Ground-type Pokemon will take reduced damage from Poison, Rock and Electric Pokemon but also take double damage from Water, Grass and Ice – which is vulnerable to.
With that explained, let’s get into the Pokemon Go type chart in full.

Alolan Ninetales Four Weaknesses
Most veteran Pokemon players are very aware of how disappointing Ice-type Pokemon tend to be, having four natural weaknesses of Fire-, Fighting-, Rock-, and Steel-type moves despite having hardly any resistances. This makes any dual-type Pokemon with Ice-type in its description quite weak, and Alolan Ninetales has always struggled because of it.
This regional variant takes some strong damage from Poison-, Rock-, and Fire-type moves, while also taking quadruple damage from Steel-type moves in the process. The Fairy-typing gives some benefits like a resistance to Dark-type moves, but you’ll likely need an Aurora Veil wall to help this Pokemon able to stand up in battle.

Pokemon Go Best Great League Team
Mastering the Great League in Pokemon Gos Battle League is harder than you might think, but a team comprising of these Pokemon should take you straight to victory.
Go Battle League is Pokemon Gos PvP mode that allows players to compete with trainers all around the world. Through the course of a season, players can rise through the ranks and earn some sweet rewards along the way.
Its not as simple as taking your most powerful Pokemon into each battle, though. There are three main leagues to compete in Great League, Ultra League, and Master League and each one has its own rules and optimal teams.
The Great League differs from the Ultra League and Master League because of one simple rule: Only Pokemon lower than 1500 CP can enter, which rules out many of the best Pokemon from the competition.
So lets take a look at the best Pokemon to take into the Great League. This is typically the first league of each season, and it usually appears again later down the line, so there are plenty of chances to take part.
Fire Type Pokemon Strength And Weakness Chart
Fire Type Pokemon
It is known to be one of the three types of starter Pokemon, forming a perfectly triangular relationship with grass and water.
Fire-type attacks are based on fire attacks and most of them can attack that can burn. Even the types of fire are immune to burns, regardless of the type of movement used that would have caused a burn.
Fire Pokémon have significantly fewer species than other Starter types due to the absence of natural phenomena that can be described as fire: the Slugma line, the Numel line, the Magmar line, Torkoal and Volcanion are some of the close representation.
Some Fire species are based on terrestrial animals known for their predatory instincts, such as Pyroar, Arcanine and Heatmor. The Vulpix and Fennekin lineages are based on Japanese folklore combining the species of foxes and fire, while, curiously, the first five generations of fire initiators, as well as the Ponyta, Houndour and Pansear lineages, are based on Chinese Zodiac animals However, there are some Fire-type Pokémon based on inanimate objects, such as the Rotom heat form and the Litwick line.
Among the famous Pokémon Fire-type trainers are Blaine, the seventh Kanto gym leader; Flannery, fourth gym leader at Hoenn’s gym; Flint, the third member of the Sinnoh Pokémon League; Chile, one of the three main gym leaders from Striaton City to Unova; Malva, a member of the Pokémon League of Kalos; and Kiawe, a trial captain from the island of Akala in Alola region.
What Are Fairy Type Pokemon Strong Against
Fairy type moves in the Pokemon series are strong against dragon, fighting, and dark Pokemon.
The fairy typing was specifically added to the franchise in order to serve as a check to the numerous dragon-type pseudo legendaries that have proven to be overpowered, such as Dragonite, Salamence, and Hydreigon. Not only are fairy moves strong against dragon Pokemon, but fairy Pokemon are immune to dragon-type moves which is particularly helpful as Outrage and Draco Meteor are among some of the most devastating moves that players can come across.
Alongside being immune to dragon attacks, fairy Pokemon are resistant to fighting, bug, and dark moves. This allows fairy Pokemon to operate in a unique space that lets it have unique interactions with most of the non-elemental types. This is incredibly valuable in the main Pokemon games, as fairy types are resistant to some of the most common moves including Close Combat and U-Turn.
Pokmon: 5 Ways The Fairy Type Improve The Game
Like most Pokémon typings, the Fairy type has had both positive and negative effects on other Pokémon as well as the series as a whole.
First introduced in Pokémon X&Y, Fairy Typing has been in every game since and was met with mixed reactions. Dark and Steel types were much more accepted when introduced in the second generation and didn’t retroactively change any previous Pokémon typing. These additions make gameplay changes for moves, but it also adds new weaknesses and resistances. Now in the eighth generation, Fairy typing has been integrated just fine in the game and many pure Fairy-type Pokémon have since been added.
There are certainly ones better than others, but it has caused a shift in the meta and more thought when creating a team. There are strengths and weaknesses to every typing, and with Fairy, there have been many reasons why the Pokémon games are the strongest they’ve ever been as well as many reasons why they were ruined by this new addition.
