How To Beat And Catch Zapdos Pokemon Go’s Most Valuable Legendary So Far

Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee – How to Get Zapdos

Pokemon GO

Niantic

The third Gen 1 Pokémon GO Legendary Bird has been released after Articuno and Moltres before it. That would be Zapdos, the mascot of Team Instinct, Pokémon GOs smallest team, but the bird itself is arguably the best legendary released into the game so far.

To date, Pokémon GO has had a problem with seriously underpowered electric Pokémon. The only one worth a damn has been Jolteon, with others like Raichu or Magneton or even Ampharos not where they need to be stat-wise. Zapdos arrival should change all that, which is why you should absolutely be trying to snap him up over the course of the next week before he disappears.

Like all other Legendary Pokémon, Zapdos will be tough to beat, but probably not as hard as Articuno and Lugia, and closer to Moltres instead. That means you might be able to take him down with 4-5 competent teammates, but I would get a group of 8-10 to be safe.

As a flying/electric type, Zapdos has some pretty interesting counters, namely ice and rock. Thats rock, not ground, which Zapdos is strong against to a certain extent, because this is how the weird type system works in Pokémon.

After you beat Zapdos, thats where the real fun begins, trying to catch him.

How To Get Zapdos In Pokemon Go

Leave a CommentLegendary PokemonShadow Pokemonivory

Zapdos is a Legendary Pokemon from Generation I. This legendary bird is the mascot of the smallest team of Pokemon Go, that is, Team Instinct.

If you wish to get Zapdos in Pokemon Go, you need to win it in the raid battles, defeat it, and win it over. Apart from this, there are no other ways to get Zapdos. You cannot catch it in the wild or cannot hatch an egg for it. The only way that you have is to beat it in the raid and then win it over to get it in your Pokedex.

Zapdos is an extremely crucial Pokemon as it rarely arrives for a specific duration, and it is a raid boss

So, what is so special about Zapdos, and why is it difficult to catchZapdos inPokemon?

It will be quite interesting to know this.

Plan Your Strategy With This Breakdown Of When To Attack Drednaw And Rotom When To Battle Zapdos And More

Pokémon UNITEs standard and ranked Unite Battles play out within a strict 10-minute time limit. If you want to be an effective member of your team, you should know exactly what happens during that period and how you can make the most of your time. To help formulate your battle strategy, weve put together this minute-by-minute breakdown of a typical match.

Before diving in, though, its important to be aware of the three sections of the map: the top path, the central area, and the bottom path. Typically, its best to choose a section and stick with it early in the match. When youre in the pre-battle screen before a match begins, take a moment to tell your teammates which map section you plan to cover. You can do this by choosing Battle Prep and then selecting the Set Path option. Selecting your path in this manner will alert your teammates of your decision, but you can also use the Quick Chat function to let your teammates know which section you want. If youre unsure which section of the map is best for you to take, the game will recommend one to you based on the Pokémon youve selected. Generally, two Pokémon go to the top and bottom paths while just one Pokémon heads to the central area.

With that in mind, lets take a look at how a match breaks down.

Zapdos Moves And Move Sets

Zapdos moves are mostly Electric-type moves, with Drill Peck Flying and Ancient Power Rock thrown in the mix for PvP viability and lore fluff. Consequentially, 60% of the time, you will face Zapdos with Electric moves:

Fast moves
  • Drill Peck Flying
  • Ancient Power Rock

Zap Cannon, Thunder and Thunderbolt are all relatively similar, but Zap Cannon will hurt the most. Comparatively speaking, Thunder is often the easiest Electric move to be faced against.

Drill Peck can be problematic, as its only a 33 Energy move. Zapdos can charge and fire Drill Peck quite frequently, which makes it quite dangerous in longer raid battles. Eventually, dodge fatigue results in more damage taken compared to Thunderbolt. Drill Peck also deals a significant amount of damage compared to Thunder and Thunderbolt.

Ancient Power is not a major concern, but it does fit in the same problem bucket as Drill Peck: frequent activation, dodge fatigue and unusual typing

Where To Find Zapdos In Pokemon Let’s Go

How To Catch Zapdos Pokemon Red

For those not in the know, Zapdos is one of the four legendary Pokemon that appear in Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu and Eevee. You can find Zapdos at level 50, and the electric-type bird Pokemon has Drill Peck and Thunderbolt as their main two forms of attack.

To find Zapdos, youll want to firstly head to the northern section of Route 10, above the sole Poke Center in the area. Make your way over to the small river, and use Sea Skim to surf down south.

You only need to go a short ways south before you can hop onto dry land, and find the doors of the Power Plant dead ahead. Within the Power Plant itself, youll find a ton of Voltorbs, Electrodes, and Magnetons. Your aim here is to work your way to the back left corner of the Power Plant, where youll find Zapdos in a wide open area.

When you engage Zapdos, youve got 5 minutes to defeat the legendary Pokemon in combat, before you can try and capture it with a Poke Ball. Pikachus electric attacks can chip away at Zapdos health, as can any water-type Pokemon youve got in your party.

After the battle, the 5 minute timer will vanish, and youve got all the time in the world to catch Zapdos. We hope youve brought some Great/Ultra Balls and Berries with you though, because its a tough creature to pin down.

Pokemon Go trainers will have a chance to catch themselves a Shiny Zapdos on the appropriately named Zapdos Day, July 21. Here’s our tips for taking down that Zapdos Raid boss and netting a shiny legendary.

The next themed Raid Day for Pokemon Go is the Zapdos Raid Day – which will of course give fans the chance to catch the electric-style Legendary Bird Pokemon that made its debut in Pokemon’s first generation . There’s even a chance for Shiny Zapdos to appear, making this a unique opportunity to catch something really, properly rare.

The Pokemon Go Zapdos Raid Day will take place on July 21 – that’s Saturday. Tomorrow, as I write this! It’s essentially following on from the most recent Pokemon GO Fest event that’s set to take place the weekend prior – and it kicking off depended on if the players participating in Pokemon GO Fest complete certain tasks set by Professor Willow. They succeeded, and Zapdos day is the reward they’ve earned for themselves and the whole Pokemon Go community.

Charges Enemy Goal Zones

Aside from the extra Aeos Energy, the remaining enemy Goal Zones on the mini map will have a timer placed on them, indicating that you can score instantly without the need to charge.

Take note that the points you get from defeating Zapdos must still be scored in the enemy goal to add to your team’s overall points. Otherwise, it will not be counted in the final tally.

Yellow Arrows Indicate Nearest Goal Zone

Upon beating Zapdos, Yellow Arrows will appear below your Pokemon. These will point you to the nearest enemy Goal Zone that you can score in.

How To Get Zapdos In Pokemon Lets Go

Zapdos is reigning in the Power Plant, a secret location off Route 10. In order to get there, youll need to have Chop Down and Sea Skim, the secret techniques that allow you to cut bushes and surf across water. Once you have them, go to Cerulean City.

Head to the southeastern part of town. When youre in front of the store, youll see a sapling between the fence and the hedge on the south side of the street. Cut it down and follow the road. It will lead you to Route 9. Head east until you reach Route 10 youll notice the popup at the bottom of the screen, and the river to the north. Approach the water and use your surfing board to follow it. When you reach the end, go back to dry land and youll end up in front of the Power Plant.

Once inside, simply follow the corridors until you reach Zapdos. Somewhat surprisingly, we managed to beat it with a couple of thunder attacks from Pikachu. After the fight is over, youll still have to capture it, so make sure you use a high quality ball. If you fail to catch it, itll only respawn once youve beaten the Elite Four, which might be a long ways away.

Suggested Pokmon Tolick Lugia

Battling the stout Lugia will be a drawn-out affair, but youcan speed things up by taking advantage of its weaknesses against Dark-,Electric-, Ghost-, Ice-, and Rock-type attacks. Lugia can use Flying-,Psychic-, Water-, and even Dragon-type attacks, so you’ll want to tailor yourparty depending on the Lugia you encounter. Stay away from Fighting-typePokémonthey have a disadvantage against both of Lugia’s types.

The best partner against Lugia is undoubtedly Tyranitar. TheArmor Pokémon has every advantage you could ask forits Dark-type has an advantageover Lugia’s Psychic type, its Rock-type trumps Lugia’s Flying-type, and ithappens to be the most powerful Pokémon available, to boot. Use TMs to replaceIron Tail and Fire Blastyou’ll do more damage with Bite and Crunch or StoneEdge. Be careful if Lugia knows Hydro Pump, thoughit will greatly damage evenTyranitar. Consider deploying Water- and Ice-type Pokémon like Cloyster andLapras to combat the troublesome move.

Zapdos Move List: Every Move Your Zapdos Could Have

Aside from how it’ll definitely have Thundershock, there’s a few other moves that Zapdos can have in Pokemon Go – and these are also the moves you’ll see crop up being used against you when facing a Zapdos in a Raid Battle:

  • Thunder Shock: a fast electric move with a potential DPS of 8.3
  • Thunderbolt: a charge electric move with a potential DPS of 32
  • Thunder: a charge type electric move with a potential DPS of 41

Featured Pokémon in raids

In addition, the following Mega-Evolved Pokémon will be appearing in Mega Raids.

Avoid Prioritizing Zapdos If You Are Leading

It could be tempting to pursue Zapdos in the last 2 minutes of the match for the substantial points it gives. However, if your team already has a significant lead in points, it is best to not pursue Zapdos completely. Instead, try to focus on preventing the opposing team from capturing Zapdos.

Keep in mind that the risk of getting knocked down while fighting Zapdos is high as it will leave your team’s goal wide open for the enemy to score. So, it is best to assess your team’s current state in the match, and decide whether it will be beneficial to contest.

Pokemon Go Zapdos Counters: Weaknesses Moveset And How To Beat Zapdos

Picking the best Pokemon Go Zapdos counters isn’t going to be too hard for a giant bird made out of electricity. As an Electric/Flying-type Pokemon, Ground and Rock-type options are obviously the best direction to go in with Pokemon Go. However, there are some surprises to be found. Plus, if you don’t have a big raid party you really want to make sure you’ve got the best Zapdos counters you can possibly take into battle. So if you’re ready to take them on, here are all of the top Pokemon Go Zapdos counters, along with its weaknesses and moveset.

Boosted Weather: Windy/Rainy100% IVs: 2015 CP / 2519 CP

Zapdos is a joint Electric/Flying-type, so as a result, its raid moveset is almost entirely Electric-type focused. It does have a vast array of resistances though; you want to avoid using Ground, Fighting, Steel, Grass, Bug, or Flying-type moves, because Zapdos will laugh them off.

Below are all of Zapdos’ possible moves, along with the best typing you should use to resist them. For the most part, Ground, Grass, Electric, and Dragon-type Pokemon will resist all of its Electric-type moves.

How To Catch Zapdos In Pokemon Go

The raid location will differ from city to city, hence, you need to beat Zapdos in a raid battle before you have any chance of catching it. When you try to beat Zapdos in a raid battle, bring with you some rock and ice type Pokemon. They are particularly strong against electric-type Pokemons.

But one thing you need to note here is that this electric Pokemon is resistant to ground type attacks. So, you wouldnt be able to use your typical tactics to beat this powerful legendary Pokemon. Yet, you can have several Pokemons you can have with you during the fight against Zapdos. They are Golem, Rhydon, and Tyranitar.

Depending on how much damage you are able to do against it, youll get a certain number of premium balls that you can use to catch Zapdos. Youll only be able to use these balls against Zapdos, so during the raid battle, you have to do as much damage as you can to get more chances to catch this pokemon. You need to wait until the Pokemon sits still to give yourself the best chance to catch it.

Preparing To Catch Galarian Zapdos

How To Catch Articuno, Zapdos & Moltres With EXCELLENT Throws In Pokémon GO! | Throwing Tutorial

Before trying to catch Galarian Zapdos, make sure you are prepared. Have plenty of Ultra Balls and Timer Balls, or whatever Pokeball you want to catch Galarian Zapdos in. If it is night time, you can also use Dusk Balls which have a better catch rate than Ultra Balls. Make sure you also have plenty of Revives and Max Potions.

Galarian Zapdos is level 70, so make sure to have a full team of Pokemon that are level 70 or higher. Galarian Zapdos has Reversal, Focus Energy, Drill Peck, and Thunderous Kick. So make sure to bring Pokemon that are not weak to fighting or flying type moves.

You will want at least one or more Pokemon with False Swipe to get Galarian Zapdos to 1 hp. Along with False Swipe, you will also want a Pokemon with a status move that can inflict paralysis or sleep, since these increase the chances of capturing Galarian Zapdos. Good Pokemon to fill this role are Zeraora, Gallade, Venusaur, Parasect, and Mew.

Be aware that many of these to have a weakness to flying type moves. So make sure to bring other Pokemon that can inflict status effects if you need, as well as back up False Swipers. When I fought Galarian Zapdos it preferred to use fighting type moves against my Gallade, but maybe I got lucky.
