Pokemon Go has been continuing to implement new features every so often in the game and this week brought the latest from Niantic with the Buddy Adventure system. This builds upon the previously added Buddy system, but now makes it more in depth with daily goals you can achieve for your Pokemon. Going about achieving these goals involves you getting your Buddy to walk with you on the map and there is a new item that has been introduced that can extend that duration known as Poffins.

What Is Poffin In Pokemon Go Buddy Adventure

Pokemon GOs Buddy Adventure update has just released, bringing a bunch of new gameplay features to the popular mobile title. Players can now play with and feed their Buddy Pokemon to improve the relationship between them, which, in turn, has its own impact on gameplay. As part of this update, a new item called Poffin was introduced.

How To Play With And Feed Your Buddy In Pokmon Go

Let’s start with the basics. To play with your Buddy in Pokémon Go, make sure you’re first Trainer Level 2 and have a Buddy assigned, then tap the Buddy icon in the lower left corner of the screen, next to your Trainer Profile.

Next, press the Play! button. Your phone camera will then activate. If you are in AR mode, you must find a flat surface. Point towards it until yellow footprints appear, then tap.

If it then says you are too close to your Buddy, back away a step or two, and it should appear.

If you’re struggling, remember you can disable AR mode in the Settings, so the Pokémon will simply appear on the screen.

With the Pokémon visible, you can play by rubbing it. You can also feed it by tapping the Berry icon.

Unlike during the catch phase where berries are simply tapped, on the Buddy screen they must be thrown like a Poké Ball to your Buddy’s mouth. You don’t lose your Berry if you miss however, so keep trying!

Once they are fully fed, they will join you on an Adventure, where they can start earning Hearts for that day…

Poffin Recipes With Rare Berries

Berries to Use

You can cook Poffins using these Berries in either the Poffin House or inside Amity Square. Do note that some of these Berries are only available late in the game, such as the Liechi Berry and Salac Berry which can only be obtained after catching Latios, Latias, and Groudon in Ramanas Park.

How To Use Poffins In Pokemon Go

To use Poffins in Pokemon GO, tap on your Buddy Pokemons icon next to your characters in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

You should now see you Buddy Pokemon at the top of the screen with your progress on todays activities below. Tap the Play option underneath your Buddy Pokemon.

Now, youll need a large flat area. Wait until the colored Pokemon footprints appear on the screen. Tap these and your Buddy Pokemon will appear.

Tap on the Berry icon and select your Poffin from this menu. You can now use your Poffin to feed your Buddy Pokemon and make it happier.

How To Walk With Your Buddy On The Map And Go On An Adventure In Pokmon Go

To earn hearts from your Buddy from certain activities such as walking or battling together they need to be visible on the map screen in Adventure mode. They will then walk, fly or roll with you as you explore for a limited time.

To make them appear on the map screen, you have to make sure they are fully fed.

Feed your Buddy some Berries three regular Berries will do and their mood will increase, and youll be told they will have joined you on an Adventure.

They will join you on the map for around three hours, with a hunger gauge appearing around their icon next to the Trainer button in the bottom left corner.

Feel free to top that gauge up with Berries as you play, or just wait until its fully depleted before feeding them again.

Note if you switch between Buddies, their hunger meter will fully empty, so youll have to feed them again. While at this sounds frustrating, a benefit is youll be able to feed them again quicker if you switch back and forth, and earn some fast and easy Hearts.

What Do Poffins Do In Pokemon Go

According to the in-game description, you should Feed this special treat to your buddy, and itll happily join you on the map for an extended duration.

In plain English, that means that your Buddy Pokemon will be able to accompany you longer on the map, in turn allowing you to earn more Candy in the process.

For every 2km that trainers walk with their buddy, theyre awarded one heart. Replacing a buddy will reset any progress made towards the next heart, but it does not reset earning candy in Pokemon Go. Giving the buddy a treat gives up to four hearts. To get more hearts, the Pokemon buddy needs to be at zero.

How To Get And Use Poffins

Previously, Pokemon Gos Buddy system was as simple as selecting a Buddy Pokemon and then you earn candy for walking with that specific Pokemon. The Buddy Adventure system is much more in depth, which all starts with you feeding your Pokemon to get them to join you on the map.

You can feed your Pokemon foods like Berries that you have previously collected, but now Poffins are also one of those foods you can feed them. However, unlike Berries and the like, Poffins cannot be earned from PokeStops. Instead, the only current way to obtain Poffins is by purchasing them from the in-game shop for 100 Coins each.

Once you have purchased however many Poffins you would like, return back to the home screen and select your Buddy on the bottom left of the screen. From here, select the top right of the screen with the Berry icon to open up an option to either use AR to bring your Buddy out or you can more easily click Quick Treat.

At this point, you can choose from all of the food you have, whether its a Nanab Berry or if you purchased the Poffins. Purchasing the Poffins specifically and then feeding it to your Pokemon will extend the duration that your Pokemon walks alongside you on the overworld with at one time. This is how you can earn your hearts for the day while they are out walking with you.

Limited 100% Lucky Trade

Other than trading with a Lucky Friend, there is another situation where a Lucky Trade is guaranteed, introduced as a promotion to get lapsed players back into the game. The requirement are quite strict:

• One of the Pokémon being traded must have been caught during July or August 2016
• The Trainer sending the guaranteed Lucky Pokémon must have been involved in fewer than 10 trades where at least one party was guaranteed.
• The Trainer receiving the Lucky Pokémon does not affect this trade, though it will increase their own count of guaranteed Lucky Trades.
• It is currently unknown if Lucky Trades from being Lucky Friends impact this count, but there have been reports that they do.
