This Blastoise Pokémon is considered particularly valuable due to the lack of any printing on the side opposite to the art, leading to the name “Backless Blastoise.”

Not Worth Much: Pikachu Xy Evolutions

A few years back, Pokémon decided to release a throwback set where they updated the stats of their first couple of sets. There were a few new cards too, particularly Mega Evolutions, and they had retro printings produced for them as well.

Pikachu received a reprint of the original Pikachu Pokémon card, but it wasn’t worth much and hasn’t risen much since then. You can still pick this one up now for about $.20.

Fusion Strike’s Genesect V Is An Exciting Booster Pull In The Pokmon Tcg

Genesect V is one of the new Fusion Strike Pokémon inspired by the mythical Pokémon of the same name. According to TCGPlayer‘s market price, this card is on sale for about $44. This art by Akira Komayama has a much different feel from the other alternate arts it shows Genesect breakdancing with a radio in the background. This definitely gives the Pokémon card a different laidback vibe from the others.

While cards in the strongest competitive Pokémon TCG decks are always consistently flooding, the ability on Genesect V to refill players hands can still be useful in situations where their Fusion Strike deck is low on cards. With trainer cards that can find Genesect V, players can even send it into battle only when they need to. While this card is less expensive than the others near it, its still a valuable pull monetarily and gameplay-wise.

Still, most believe Top-Seika didn’t distribute them until 1997, after the official Pokemon Trading Card Game launched in 1996.

Valuable: Pikachu Wizards Promo #1 Ivy Misprint

The Ivy Misprint Pikachu is a peculiar card in the grand scheme of the Pokémon card game. It was printed in the set and is easily the most expensive card in the set. The regular Pikachu from isn’t worth all that much .

However, this Pikachu is misprinted in several ways. Firstly, it has an ivy background that is different than the intended background for the card. Secondly, it has a Promo stamp in place of the logo. This card goes for quite a bit. Its median price on TCGPlayer is $150 where it’s unavailable at the time of this writing. However, it can be found on eBay for thousands of dollars.

This 1998 Trophy Pokemon card could only be obtained by participating in a special tournament in Japan. The adorable item features artwork depicting Kangaskhan with its baby in its pouch, surrounded by holo sparkles.

Fittingly, the contest required both a child and their parent to participate alongside each other in TCG battles . According to reports, there are only 11 of these currently in existence that have been graded, making it one of the most rare Trophy Pokemon cards to exist.

In October 2020, two PSA 10s of the collectible went for $150k. With its scarcity, we expect this Pokemon cards value will only continue to go up over the next couple of years.

How Much Are My Pokmon Cards Worth

How much you can sell your Pokémon cards for is mostly dependent on three variables: the cards rarity, which print edition the card came from, and the cards physical quality.

Its important to note that your average Pokémon collection wont make you rich. Most common and uncommon cards are worth less than $1, and even rare cards are usually worth less than $5. However, holographic rare Pokémon cards often go for $15 and upespecially for older cards that have been sitting in your self storage unit for years.

Pokemon Card Values What They Should Be Selling For

In the late 1990s, a small toy company from Japan known as Pokemon began manufacturing and distributing what would become wildly popular trading cards. Since then, their popularity has skyrocketed not only trading-card wise, but also in the collecting world.

Because of this new found appreciation for Pokemon card collecting , some valuable finds have since been uncovered, and can be found in your local card shop. One of the most valuable cards by far is the Pikachu Illustrator Promo Card.

Pokemon First Edition Mewtwo

Sold in November, 2020 for $22,655

A member of the exclusive and powerful Legendary Pokémon group, the psychic-type Mewtwo is considered one of the top Pokémon of all time.

The vicious and savage Mewtwo originated when a scientist altered its original DNA via gene-splicing techniques.

Its signature move, Psystrike, can deal out massive punishment to opposing Pokemon and has long been a favorite of many Pokemon fans.

Do not be fooled by Ken Sugimori’s tame depiction of Mewtwo on this card, as this creature packs devastating ferocity and power.

10 Rare Pokemon Cards on Snupps Snupps Blog Medium

The second of the trio of evolved starters from the 1999 set, Blastoise was also the cover star for Pokémon Blue.

First off, lets get the price tag out of the way. A PSA 10 copy sold for $45,000 in 2020, with another selling for $44,000 this year.

Its all the more astounding considering there are around 100 when looking at graded pristine copies.

However, Blastoise is indisputably one of the most popular Pokémon ever, and the same goes for Squirtle and Wartortle, which is the evolution path it follows.

In fact, its the second-most valuable card from the original 1999 set.

Japanese Topsun Charizard Blue Back

Estimated Average Market Value Unknown

The most expensive Pokemon card on this list was also more than likely one of the cheapest Pokemon cards to buy in history You cant help but smile at the irony.

In 1997, a Japanese company known as Top-Seika obtained the rights to feature Pokémon on card inserts that would be included with the sale of packets of chewing gum the gum was apple flavored in case youre curious.

Each packet would contain 2 pieces of gum along with two cards from the Topsun promotion. Each packet was sold at only 60 Yen thats approximately $0.60!

The set contained a wide variety of Pokémon from generation 1 alongside Charizard and there were even misprinted versions released.

But what makes this card so special, besides the fact that it features fan favorite Charizard, is the Blue back.

In what would later become typical of Pokemon cards, intentionally or not, the cards were released in waves similar to how the original base set of Pokémon cards came in editions First Edition, Shadowless and Unlimited.

In the case of the Topsun insert cards, what we might refer to today as a First Edition card, was a Topsun insert card that had a blue back and featured no number on the top left border of the card name.

This record breaking Charizard is just such a card.

There a few live listings of this card, but I expect them to sold quickly even with a lower PSA score.

You can hear the full story of this Pokemon card by the video linked below.

Topsun Charizard Blue Back No Number Error

Sold in January, 2021 for $493,230

As with the other Topsun cards mentioned earlier on this list, Top-Seika didn’t distribute them until 1997, even though their copyright date reads 1995.

And since they weren’t part of the official Pokemon Trading Card Game, they are considered more in the realm of novelty collectible cards.

Still, an early Pokemon card is an early Pokemon card…

And, whether you’re talking about the prism holos, green-backs, or blue-backs, collectors are willing to pay thousands of dollars for several of the Topsun cards when graded in PSA 10 condition.

But a price tag of thousands of dollars turned out to be quite an understatement in January 2021 when Goldin Auctions sold the most desirable of them all, the only “no number error” blue-back Charizard on record in a PSA 10 holder, for a whopping $493,230.

The blue-back checklist contains 150 numbered cards in total, but for some reason, about 50 of the characters were also printed with no number on them by mistake.

So, while the standard blue-back Charizard should contain a “006” on it in the upper-left of the front of the card, the “no number error” will be blank.

If you can find one and are lucky enough to have it graded PSA 10, you could be looking at life-changing money.

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Mewtwo #10

One of the best hits from the original set, and the main antagonist from the first Pokémon movie, Mewtwo is a man-made Pokémon that was created from the DNA of Mew.

Psychic cards were also fairly rare at the time, while Mewtwo is considered to be a legendary Pokémon-type. The holofoil looks like rays of power emanating from the genetic anomaly.

This time, the number of gem mint copies that appear on the PSA registry is 81. Its a tiny bit rarer and more expensive than any of the cards discussed above. That makes sense due to the sheer popularity.

The Top 10 Most Valuable Pokmon Tcg Cards

How Much Are Shining Pokemon Cards Worth?

Pokémon cards are more popular than ever, so do you have some hidden treasures in your collection?

Joe Parlock

With the Pokémon Trading Card Game’s popularity at an all-time high, people are rushing to their old collections and hoping to find a few treasures they can sell. You see stories of cards being flipped for five or even six digits online with alarming regularity, causing the COVID-19 pandemic’s equivalent of a gold rush.

However, if you’re a casual fan digging out their old binders, there is a slim chance you’ll find any of those mythical best-sellers in your collection. While paying off your mortgage from one card may be all but impossible, you can still make a healthy profit. With that in mind, here are the top ten most valuable Pokémon cards that you might actually own.

To work this out, I went through every single Pokémon set on TCGPlayer’s price database and noted every single card worth with a market value of more than $100. I then removed all promotional cards, including tournament prizes, limited editions, and gift cards given to the game’s staff. While these can be worth a lot, it is very unlikely someone is going to have them sitting under their bed and simply not know about it.
