Selecting A League And Battle Party

Leagues

  • Great League: Maximum CP cant exceed 1,500.
  • Ultra League: Trainers unlock this League when they own at least 3 Pokémon whose CP values are above 1,500 CP. Maximum CP cant exceed 2,500.
  • Master League: Trainers unlock this League when they own at least 3 Pokémon whose CP values are above 2,500 CP. This League has no maximum CP limit.

Choosing Pokmon For The Battle

If youre not too familiar with Pokèmon, you might pit them against one another based solely on their CP. The logic is that a higher CP will defeat or outlast a Pokèmon with a lower CP. While this can work, it requires you have a pretty high CP Pokèmon yourself.

A smarter approach is to know which Pokèmon to pit against the other. This knowledge of which type of Pokèmon to pit against a rival will take time to learn and you will need to use the official Wiki until you know it off the top of your head.

To find out which Pokèmon are best suited for the battle, note down what type it is that you will be facing. For example a Bulbasaur is a grass and poison type Pokèmon. Pick the type of Pokèmon that you know a grass and poison Pokèmon is going to be bad/weak against. iOS users can use Battle Helper for Pokemon Go.

How To Dodge Attacks

Dodging attacks is a serious pain in the neck when youre first starting out. However, with a little practice and luck, you an get good enough at it to at least dodge the big attacks. Here are some tips on how to dodge attacks more effectively:

  • When enemy Pokemon attack, there is often a bright flash right before the attack initializes. The key to dodging is to swipe just after that flash.
  • Youll want to make sure to do a well-defined swipe on your device. If you dont, it may register as an attack and youll take the attack straight to the face.
  • Dodging regular attacks is extremely difficult to do consistently. Especially if its a quick attack like Snorlaxs Lick or Vaporeons Water Gun. Its best to wait for the big attacks which are generally slower which gives you more time to react.
  • When youre attacking, your Pokemon is virtually immobile. You wont be able to dodge any attacks while youre performing your attacks. Thus, youll want to try to plan your special attacks until just after you dodge the opponents. That way they take tons of damage and you dont. This will take a little longer and a bit of finesse, but it can win you matches you probably shouldnt have won.
  • Dodging attacks is a highly underrated mechanic in Pokemon battles. You can avoid taking some pretty serious damage and give your Pokemon a much better chance at victory even if youre only mediocre at dodging.

What Makes The Best Pokmon In A Pvp Battle

Pokemon Go – How to Battle Fight – Gyms Explained – Tutorial Guide Tips Tricks

There is one important thing to keep in mind when determining the best Pokémon for a PvP battle: IVs. Especially Pokémon’s Attack IVs. You probably already know that every Pokémon has IVs that range from 0 to 15 for each of their attacks, defenses, and stamina, and these IVs – combined into a formula with their base values and level – affect how high or low these values are currently.

The problem is that CP does not really reflect attack, defense and stamina equally! Niantics approach is that the attack weighs heavily in the formula to find out what CP a Pokémon has, but the attack doesn’t really have more impact on the combat than the other two statistics. This means that if you have a Pokémon with very low Attack IVs, you can actually work out some more statistics for it – although you have to keep in mind that of course this is only relevant in the Grand and Mid League there is no upper limit in the Master League, so you want Pokémon to be at the highest level with perfect Ivs.

How To Battle In Pokmon Go: The Basics

    • Unlike Raid and Gym battles, PvP battles require you to pick three Pokémon
    • You have the option to swap between the chosen three Pokémon mid-battle
    • Battles aren’t turn-based unlike other games in the franchise
    • You inflict damage by tapping your phone’s screen to perform Fast Moves
    • You can also use Charge Moves by swiftly swiping across your screen
    • Use Protect Shields in order to defend your Pokémon, though you can only use two for the duration of the battle
    • All PvP battles are timed, so if both Trainers have Pokémon remaining when the battle ends, the winning Trainer will be the one who has more Pokémon available. However, if both Trainers have an equal amount of Pokémon available, the winner is determined by the amount of HP remaining at the end of the battle

    Healing Your Pokemon After Battle

    Hands

Trainers may find they need to heal their Pokemon after a battle. This can be done by using the healing items found in their inventory. These include revives and potions of various strengths. There are two ways to apply a healing item in Pokemon GO:

  • From the Item’s listing in the trainer’s inventory.
  • From the Pokemon’s page by tapping the button with three horizontal lines on the lower right and selecting “Items.”
  • Pokemon must be conscious to battle. Their health value, however, does no matter.

    Good luck, trainers!

    What Are Are Trainer Leagues

Trainer leagues are the three tiers which players must select in order to participate in trainer battles. Each one comes with a limit on a Pokémons power, so that players can anticipate how strong the other player its going up against will be.

    The three leagues are:

    • Great League, with a combat power maximum set at 1,500
    • Ultra League, with a combat power maximum set at 2,500
    • Master League, with no combat power maximum

Players can only battle against other trainers in their league, which Niantic says is to ensure an even playing field.

    Take Down Pokemon Defending Gym

To defeat the gym, you must defeat the Pokemon that are defending it. There can be up to 6 Pokemon you’ll need to face and to completely kick them out, you have to bring their CP & motivation to 0.

Check Order Of Pokemon Left Behind

Before starting the battle, check the order of the Pokemon left behind. The first one dropped into the gym is the first you’ll battle. This will make it easy for you to determine your lineup of attacking Pokemon.

Build Party Exploiting Defending Pokemon’s Weaknesses

After you’ve determined the order of Pokemon you’ll face, build a lineup of strong Pokemon that counter the defending Pokemon’s strengths. Use Pokemon with attack moves that are the weakness of the defending Pokemon to easily defeat them.

Pokemon Get Kicked Out When CP & Motivation Run Out

When you defeat a defending Pokemon, their CP & motivation meter will go down. You need to defeat each Pokemon several times to get these numbers to 0, kicking them out & leaving the gym defenseless for you to take over.

Type Advantages Are More Important Than Cp

Combat points are a great measure of how effective your Pokémon will be in battle, but they’re far from everything.

Type advantages are way more effective. A Gyrados with 2100 CP is going to be more effective against a 2600 Arcanine than a 3000 Venasaur will be. People get incredibly hung up on CP, but type advantages are much more effective to keep in mind.

    Berries And Buddy Mood

Guide: How to Win Every Gym Battle in Pokémon GO – Pokémon GO Battle Guide

Feeding your Buddy Berries will fill up its Hunger meter. As time goes on, your Buddy will get hungry and its mood will reduce. There are 6 segments in the Hunger meter and each segment lasts for 30 minutes. Your Buddy will deplete the entire Hunger meter in 3 hours.

Depending on the type of Berry you use, the Hunger meter will fill up differently:

    • Razz Berry, Pinap Berry and Nanab Berry grant 2 bars
    • Golden Razz Berry and Silver Pinap Berry grant 6 bars

Swapping out your Buddy will make it Hungry instantly, which can be useful to quickly collect Affection Hearts for this category. Be careful, as walking distance will be reset on swap.

Your Buddy will become hungry even if the game is not running.

Pokmon Go Battle League Rules And Battle Restrictions

Go Battle League battles seem to behave the same as a standard Battle against a Friend or someone locally, but there are some competitive-orientated rules and restrictions to make things fair:

    • Each time you enter the Go Battle League, you will play a ‘set’ of five matches.
    • There is a limit to how many Go League Battles you can participate in per day, whether free or paid, at six sets per day.
    • You can only use one of each Pokémon species in your Battle team in a contest.
    • As per game-wide Battle rule changes, if Pokémon use Charged Attacks at the same time, the Pokémon with the highest Attack stat will go first. If they are the same, one Pokémon chosen at random will go first.
    • Switching between Pokémon will reset any changes made to Attack or Defence, such as buffs or debuffs from moves made during battle.

Thanks to for helping with some of the above information.

How To Battle Friends In Pokemon Go

There are a fe ways in which you can battle your friends in Pokemon Go. The easiest way is to head into your friends list when you’re both in close proximity. You’ll see the option to battle, and as long as you are close enough, you can head into a game. If you want to battle remotely, you’ll need to be Best or Ultra friends with your opponent. If you are, you can battle from wherever you are in the world. You can also use the QR feature to battle nearby opponents. Just head into the battle menu via the nearby pokemon tab, and then select ‘Challenge a Trainer’. You then just need to scan the other person’s QR code, or vice versa.

Think Twice About Switching Out Your Pokmon

How Pokémon GO can be even better

If you enter a battle and your Venasaur is up against an Arcanine, it’s tempting to immediately switch out your Pokémon. But there’s a wait period after you do so before you can switch out again and chances are, if you switch out first, the other trainer will then do the same. Say you switch out for Blastoise the other trainer might then send out Raichu, and you’re stuck in the same position. Only switch out first if it’s really necessary.

Cups In The Pokmon Go Battle League

In addtion to the various leagues, the Pokémon Go Battle League also holds cups. These themed special competitions have different restrictions than the standard leagues. In the past, these cups have included Premier Cups, which had similar CP restrictions as the various leagues, but only non-Legendary Pokémon could participate, and the Flying Cup, which only allowed Flying type Pokémon.

For Season 7, the following Cups will be featured:

    • The Ultra League Premier Cup will run April 26 through May 10.
    • The Great League Remix Cup will run April 12-26.
    • The Retro Cup only allows the first 15 Pokémon types excluding Dark, Steel, and Fairy and has a 1,500 CP limit. It will run May 10-17.
