Pokemon Go: Using The Super Rocket Radar To Spot Giovanni
In order to track down Giovanni in Pokemon GO, players will need to assemble a Super Rocket Radar. Before they can do this, they’ll need to assemble three standard Rocket Radars and take down Team GO Rocket Leaders Sierra, Cliff, and Arlo. Once Giovanni’s underbosses are out of the way, all that is left is to battle the maniacal kingpin himself.
To break down the process to find Giovanni, players will need three particular items in certain quantities in order to finally reach the penultimate battle:
Defeat grunts, assemble radars, defeat Arlo/Cliff/Sierra and then Giovanni’s appearance will be close at hand. Defeating him will be another story entirely, but it is nonetheless doable with the right Pokemon battle team at the ready.
Go Rocket Leader Arlo
Arlo is an ambitious trainer and ex-member of Team Valor once a close friend of Candela, he resented her elevation to leader of Team Valor and appears to have found the vehicle for his revenge in Giovannis Team GO Rocket.
Signature Pokémon: Scyther
Second Pokémon: Gyarados, Magnezone or Crobat
Third Pokémon: Charizard, Dragonite or Scizor
Team Rocket Meowth Balloon
For some events, a Meowth Balloon will also appear in place of the standard Team GO Rocket Balloon. This balloon is unique in that it brings Jessie & James of the Pokémon anime for a battle. You battle both of them and they both count as grunts so you will get 2 Mysterious Components. They will give Shadow Ekans and Shadow Koffing and both have the capability of being shiny.

After July 7th 2020, the Team GO Rocket balloon started to appear. Sometimes, while you have the game open, a balloon will drop down above you, only for you, and will off you a Team GO Rocket battle. If you have no Rocket Radars, you will face a grunt. If you have a Rocket Radar, you will get a Team GO Rocket Leader and if you have a Super Rocket Radar you will encounter Giovanni or his decoys.
The balloons will appear once in every 6 hour period from 12am to 6am, 6am to 12pm, 12pm to 6pm and 6pm to 12am.
‘pokmon Go’ Update On Mystery Component May Lead To Finding Team Go Rocket Hideouts
Earlier this week, Pokémon Go teased the discovery of a mystery item that has connections to Team Go Rocket, and an update has just been released.
Professor Willow explained that a mystery component was found after a Team Go Rocket Grunt dropped it following a Pokémon battle. While the origins and purpose of the mystery component remained unknown, Willow proposed that this device allowed Team Go Rocket to infiltrate PokeStops in Pokémon Go.
Here’s the latest update on these mysterious items from Professor Willow on the official Pokémon Goblog:
“We’re getting closer to finding another use for these Mysterious Components. I’ve been developing a prototype for something I call the Rocket Radar by combining several of the components together, but it’s still not functioning as intended.
I believe that if I can create a functioning prototype of this Rocket Radar, we might be able to use Team GO Rocket’s own technology to find out where their hideouts are. While it’s relatively easy to find Team GO Rocket Grunts , we’ve had a difficult time finding where the Team GO Rocket Leadersor even Giovanniare hiding.
These Mysterious Components hold the key to making this Rocket Radar work. I know we can uncover where the Team GO Rocket higher-ups are hiding. I need to rally our team leaders to dig further into this.”
Here is the current list of Shadow Pokémon that can be caught:

Subject: Mysterious Components
During my investigations of these take-overs, I came across these strange objects that Team GO Rocket Grunts would drop upon being defeated in battle. For the sake of this report, I will refer to them as Mysterious Components. The exteriors of these objects seem to be made of some metal alloy, and theyre cold to the touch. The glass screens radiate a light-purple color. I touched the screen of one of the objects to see if it would react, but nothing happened.
Attention, Trainers! Willow reports hes discovered strange objects Team GO Rocket Grunts drop upon defeat in battle. Stay tuned! As the threat of #TeamGORocket escalates, well be sharing updates from Professor Willow as they come in.

How To Beat The Team Go Rocket Leaders In Pokmon Go
The Pokémon teams that the leaders and boss have change fairly frequently, though theyre not super hard to take down. You wont have to pay too much attention to their teams if you use Pokémon with CP at 2,900 or higher. Ideally, use strong Pokémon with their Community Day moves, like any of the following:
- Metagross with Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash
- Salamence with Dragon Tail and Outrage
- Tyranitar with Smack Down and Stone Edge
- Dragonite with Dragon Tail and Outrage
Using powerful Legendary Pokémon you may have picked up from raids, like Mewtwo or Rayquaza, will also help.
Even if you take your strongest Pokémon into battle, be careful about the Pokémon typing. If you because the boss uses attacks that are super effective against your Pokémon, youll want to swap out members of your party.
The admins and boss also use their shields, so the first two charge attacks you use will be blocked.

How To Find The Team Go Rocket Leaders In Pokmon Go
Team Go Rocket members can be found in hot air balloons flying above you or from glitchy, black PokéStops. Each time you defeat one, youll get a Mysterious Component. After you get 6 Mysterious Components, theyll combine into a Rocket Radar, which allows you to find a random leader. The three leaders are Sierra, Arlo, and Cliff.
Some Timed Research and Team Go Rocket Special Research tasks require you to beat all three leaders. Often, but not always, youll be rewarded with a Super Rocket Radar, allowing you to find the boss, Giovanni. Beating Giovanni will net you a Legendary Shadow Pokémon.
How To Use Pokmon Gos Super Rocket Radar
Now that players have the Super Rocket Radar, they use it the same way they just used the regular Rocket Radars. Except, instead of tracking down a Team Rocket leader, its used to track down Team Rockets boss, Giovanni. Just like before, activate the Super Rocket Radar to determine which Pokéstop Giovanni is hiding at, and challenge him to a battle. As for his Pokémon, Giovanni leads with his Normal-type Persian, so fighting types are recommended. His other two Pokémon vary by month, but as Giovanni was a Ground-type Gym Leader in the games, he is often seen using one, though this is not a guarantee. Keep an eye out for the powerful Shadow Legendary he uses, the final Pokémon on his team, which will also vary by the research tasks month.
The main reason why players will want to obtain the Super Rocket Radar is for the rewards they gain when defeating Giovanni. Not only do they gain an immense amount of stardust, one of the items used to level up Pokémon, but several revives and even the rare Unova stone, used to evolve Pokémon from the fifth generation. Not to mention, the Shadow Legendary he uses can be caught by the player after his defeat, making a great team addition. Dont forget, but players can claim the reward for defeating him on the special research menu for even more loot. For players invested in Pokémon GO or looking to gain more of a footing, obtaining the Super Rocket Radar to track down Giovanni is well worth their time.

Those playing Pokémon GO since last fall may have seen some of their neighborhood Pokéstops turn a black color; the sign of Team Rocket Go. Many have also likely challenged the teams grunts and rescued the Shadow Pokémon from their clutches. However, theres a way to confront Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket, and the man behind it all.

Team Go Rocket Leader Guide
Once you have located a Rocket Leaders base, you will have the opportunity to battle them for some nice rewards. Battles play out similar to those for regular grunts, with the exception that the leaders will have Protect Shields at their disposal that they actually use as with your own Protect Shields, you will do no damage to the leader when they use them.
Because of this, we recommend front-loading your team with a Pokémon that has a charged attack that is available relatively quickly.

How To Find Team Go Rocket Leaders Using Rocket Radars
Collect six mysterious components, and you will be prompted to turn them into a Mysterious Device/Rocket Radar a machine capable of locating a Team GO Rocket leader.
- Once constructed, the Rocket Radar will then be added to the upper right of your map screen
- Tap the Rocket Radar icon and you will access a new new map view
- On this new map view, you will be able to see Pokéstops occupied by a Team GO Rocket leader, indicated by a red R.
- This map lacks PokéStop/Gym icons or other landmarks – challenging you to work out the street layout for yourself
Note that you can only hold one Rocket Radar at a time, and will not collect more Mysterious Components until you have beaten the leader. The radar is not consumed until this point – you are free to re-challenge the leader as many times as necessary, or indeed, go in search of another leader.
The Super Rocket Radar works on the same principles – however, the real Giovanni won’t be found at every one of the radar locations detected .

Should I Purify Shadow Snorlax
As a 100% shadow it would be no question to purify. As others have mentioned, purified Snorlax is all upside when compared to Shadow Snorlax. Return is vastly better than Frustration, and the purified bonuses make powering it up/unlocking a second move less expensive. Plus, having a hundo Snorlax is pretty neat.

How To Find Team Go Rocket Leaders
After you gather 6 Mysterious Components, you’ll be able to build the Rocket Radar. Use the Rocket Radar to change the map overlay and pinpoint where a GO Rocket Leader is.
PokeStops with a Leader will have the Rocket “R” logo over them, and you’ll be able to actually see the Leader as you approach the PokeStop. Leader Hideouts vanish at 10 p.m. and re-appear at 6 a.m. the next day.
You can always roam around and see if there are any other Rocket-invaded PokeStops, though it’s not certain right now if the Leaders are locked to individual players until they spawn again the next day.
Keep in mind, however, that you won’t be able to collect any more Mysterious Components until you complete a Leader battle and lose your Rocket Radar.
