They Have Great Designs
Some players might think that Bug Pokemon are creepy and, well, Bug-like. With bulging eyes and flapping wings, it would be fair to say that Bug Pokemon are an acquired taste. After all, not everybody likes creepy crawlies. But Pokemon like Butterfree, Volcarona and Venomoth have genuinely gorgeous designs. The firefly Pokemon Volbeat and Illumise also have a great partnership, as gender counterparts of each other.
Finally, it would be impossible to talk about cool Bug-type Pokemon designs without one of the coolest Pokemon designs ever. Scizor is a Bug/Steel-type Pokemon, which evolves from Scyther if it is traded while holding a Metal Coat. x4 Fire weakness aside, Scizor has an awesome color palette and strong pincer claws, which is perfect for the powerful Bug-type.
Pokemon Fighting Type Strengths
The good news, if youre the one using one, is fighting Pokemon have more strengths than weaknesses. Theyll do extra damage to any Dark, Ice, Normal, Rock, or Steel Pokemon.
That means a Fighting type Pokemon makes an excellent counter to some powerhouse foes:
- Dark: Tyranitar, Hydreigon, Krookodile, Wavile, Bisharp, etc.
- Ice: Kyurem, Mamoswine, Glaceon, Regice, Articuno, etc.
- Normal: Slaking, Meloetta, Porygon-Z, Snorlax, Braviary, etc.
- Rock: Tyranitar, Rhyperior, Terrakion, Archeops, Rampardos, etc.
- Steel: Dialga, Metagross, Melmetal, Genesect, Excadrill, etc.

Therefore, we’ve produced the following Pokémon type chart to help you quickly suss out what’s what when it comes to Pokémon battles.
In this guide, well help you understand how Pokémon types relate to each other, how the mobile game calculates attack strength and key ways in which this differs from the console game series.

Bug: Very Few Pure Bugs
One of the greatest flaws about Bug-type Pokémon is that there are so few that arent duel types. Most Bug Pokémon will adopt a second typing by the time they reach their final evolutions and honestly this is both good and bad.
Its good if the second typing offers some advantages like Volcarona gets being a Bug/Fire type. But it presents a huge liability if the second typing just adds more weaknesses like the case of Leavanny with a Bug/Grass typing. Considering none of the pure bug type Pokémon are worth their salt should tell you just how worthless the Bug type is.

Pokemon Fighting Type Weaknesses & Counters
Fighting type Pokemon have three main weaknesses: Fairy, Flying, and Psychic. Youll want to use one of these if youre trying to deal with a martial foe.
That means youll want to use strong Pokemon of those type.
- Fairy: If you have them, use Togekiss, Gardevoir, Granbull, Clefable, or Mr. Mime. A number of these Pokemon double up on the weakness via a combination of the two types. Mr. Mime is both Psychic and Fairy, for example, giving you even more potential super effective moves.
- Flying: You may not have them, but the most powerful Flying type Pokemon are Ho-Oh, Rayquaza, Dragonite, Salamence, and Lugia. If you want to double up, one of the Fairy types will do just fine like Togekiss or the aforementioned Lugia who is Flying and Psychic.
- Psychic: Mewtwo is obviously king here, but barring that, go for Deoxys, Alakazam, Espeon, or Latios. Crucially, you should avoid Metagross despite how strong it is. The Steel type will leave it vulnerable to Fighting attacks.
They Scale Poorly And Their Final Evolutions Are Weak
This isn’t true for all Bug Pokemon, but it is true for a lot of them. Many of the Bug-type Pokemon that reach their final evolutionary stages early on — like Weedle, Wurmple, or Caterpie — tend to be very weak no mater which stage of advancement they’re in.
This would be forgivable if it weren’t compounded by the fact that they don’t really scale properly like other Pokemon types do. Bug Pokemon often don’t learn powerful moves until very high levels, long past the point when most trainers would be willing to use them. Which leads me right into my next point…

Bug: Fire Flying & Rock
Similar to Ice types, Bug Pokémon are weak to Fire and Rock types, but have the added bonus of being weak to Flying types. Staple moves in competitive Pokémon matches like Rock Slide, Stealth Rock, and others make having a weakness to those moves a major liability.
Bug especially suffers if the other team has Flying-types as defensive counters or sweepers, which many players do. You might take down a Dark Pokémon in competitive now and then, but itll crumble to the first Flying to enter the battlefield.
Historical Changes To Pokmon Types In Mainline Pokmon Games
