What Gen Is Pokemon Heart Gold

Obsolete References To Gold/silver/crystal Features

The Generation I Never Knew || Pokémon HeartGold Nuzlocke #1
To do:There are likely more obsolete references in the game hunting them all down may be quite a task.

There are several references in the game’s dialog to features that were present in the original Gold/Silver/Crystal, but are either no longer present or have been altered in such a way that the references are no longer relevant.

  • Kurt in Azalea Town still refers to “Poké Ball” in the singular form in most of his dialogue. In Gold/Silver, he would only turn one Apricorn at a time into a Poké Ball for the player, whereas in Crystal and HeartGold/SoulSilver the player can give him multiple Apricorns at a time and receive multiple Poké Balls, making his speech slightly awkward. This is probably just a typo.
  • In the English versions, the poster on the first floor of the Goldenrod Radio Tower advertising the “Lucky Channel” remains. This was the radio show in Gold/Silver/Crystal that would broadcast lottery numbers which, if they matched the Trainer ID of any of the player’s Pokémon, would allow them to win prizes. The show is no longer broadcasted in HeartGold/SoulSilver, having been replaced by Felicity the lottery attendant behind the counter at the Radio Tower, who tells the player the daily lotto number when spoken to. In the Japanese versions, it refers to the show as instead of as in the originals, indicating that this could have been a new yet scrapped show instead.

Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version are 2009 remakes of the 1999 Game Boy Colorrole-playing video gamesPokémon Gold and Silver, also including features from Pokémon Crystal. The games are part of the fourth generation of the Pokémon video game series and were developed by Game Freak, published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Gold and Silver, the games were released in Japan on September 12, 2009, and were later released in other regions during March 2010.

HeartGold and SoulSilver take place in the Johto and Kanto region of the franchise’s fictional universe, which features special creatures called Pokémon. The basic goal of the game is to become the best Pokémon trainer in both the Johto and Kanto regions, which is done by raising and cataloging Pokémon and defeating other trainers.

To find your SID, in RNG Reporter, head to “Find SID from Chained Shinies” under 4th Gen Tools. If using HGSS and the Red Gyarados method, you’ll have to capture it but not save, write down the IVs/nature/gender then restart and repeat. In the Chain to SID window, all you have to do is enter your Trainer ID and the data for your Chained Shiny/Red Gyarados then hit Calculate. Keep repeating this using different shinies/Red Gyarados until the “Possibilities” is 1.

Alterations From Generation Iii

pokedex soul silver
  • A significant Pokémon battle mechanic is altered in which, after a Pokémon faints, its Trainer is no longer prompted to immediately switch in its replacement, instead waiting until the turn is resolved before the Trainer is prompted to do so. This prevents a Pokémon from being knocked out on the same turn that the Pokémon it replaced was knocked out, except by entry hazards, and also makes it possible for a move to miss because it has no target.
  • In a single battle, if a Pokémon faints before its opponent moves, the opponent can still move in that turn.
  • Jamming and combos have been removed.
  • Secret Bases have been moved to The Underground, where players can interact over local wireless connections.
  • The removal of item storage in the PC, as the Bag can now hold all kinds of items without limit.
  • Some Pokémon now display differences in appearance based on their gender.
  • The framerate has been downgraded to 30.
  • Players are now able to run inside all buildings.
  • Pokémon hatching from Eggs are now level 1 instead of level 5.
  • Misdreavus‘s EV yield is changed from 1 Special Attack and 1 Special Defense to only 1 Special Defense.
  • Roselia‘s EV yield is changed from 1 Special Attack to 2 Special Attack.
  • Double Battle Trainers can now walk towards the player to initiate a Double Battle.
  • When multiple Pokémon are manually recalled on the same turn, faster Pokémon get recalled before slower Pokémon.

Differences Between Pokemon Gold And Silver And Heartgold And Soulsilver

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are remembered as some of the best games Game Freak had to offer, largely due to the many quality of life improvements it made on the original Pokemon Gold and Silver.

Since the Generation II games were released on the Nintendo eShop some years ago, many fans have been tempted to play the originals. They should not take for granted, however, the improvements added to HeartGold and SoulSilver so that players would not have to endure certain hardships. As with any remake, they had the benefit of knowing what didnt work with the original, and while Pokemon Gold and Silver are great games, they were limited by the technology of the time. Anyone who wants to play the original Generation II games should definitely keep these changes in mind.

    In The Core Series Games

The player receives a Pokégear from their mother at the start of their journey in the Generation II games and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. The Pokégear is an important tool for Trainers, some see it necessary to have one on a Trainer’s adventure. The player is able to have access to the Pokégear by selecting it from the menu. In Generation II, the Pokégear option on the menu is rendered as “POKéGEAR”. At that, it is easy to navigate through the Pokégear by selecting through four different functions located at the top-left of the screen. It displays the map of the region, names of previously fought Trainers, and the current time. It also allows players to call registered Trainers. Certain functions need to be unlocked during the game by receiving special expansion cards.

Up until the release of the Generation 2 remakes, getting all of the Johto Pokémon in one game was a real hassle as well as a money-sink. In Generation 3, the only way the starters could easily be gotten was through the Gamecube spinoff games, Colosseum and XD.

If a player wasn’t able to spend a couple of hundred dollars buying all of the necessary equipment, they wouldn’t be able to catch ’em all. Condensing the experience into their handheld consoles was a smart and inclusive move on Nintendo’s part.

What Pokmon Games Could Be Remade Next

More Pokémon remakes could be on the way following the release of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, ranging from Gen 2 settings to Gen 6.

The release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has given Pokémon fans the chance to revisit the Sinnoh region from the original Gen 4 games, and similar opportunities should follow with the release of more remakes. Older games could very well get new iterations in the upcoming years, and now that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are out, fans may have something new to look forward to besides Pokémon Legends: Arceus. There are plenty of classic games that could still be reimagined on the Nintendo Switch, providing older fans with a healthy dose of nostalgia, while introducing newcomers to classic Pokémon settings and regions.

Pokémon has tended to follow a pattern with its releases in recent years: a new game releases, and then a remake, and then another new game, and so on. If it continues to follow the same formula, then it means that another remake could be coming after Gen 9, or even after Pokémon: Legends Arceus. It’s too early to say which generation will be remade next, but there are some that may be more likely to be remade than others.

Features That Make Pokemon Heartgold And Soulsilver A Must

Being a remake, HeartGold and SoulSilver had ample opportunity to improve over the originals. Here’s where they succeeded… and failed.

The DS remakes of the second generation of Pokémon games are considered by many die-hard fans to be the best in the franchise. Legit copies can cost a potential buyer upwards of $100, the highest of any of the mainline games, due to the high demand and low supply. A mix of nostalgia and genuine love for the titles keep the games solidly within the public eye.

    Must Play: Battle Frontier

Introduced in Emerald, the Battle Frontier instantly became the most re-playable part of the game, due in part to its rogue-like design. Players could choose from pre-selected Pokemon, or bring their own depending on the facility. Each area had the player battling a large number of progressively harder trainers to see just how good they were at navigating the game’s mechanics. The amount of playtime this area added to the games was sizable, and, as an endgame challenge, Pokémon still has yet to top the Battle Frontier.

Changes From Gold Silver And Crystal

  • A new event involving Giovanni, Silver, and Celebi was added.
  • Brock, Sabrina and Blaine are now wearing completely different clothing.
  • The Sinnoh Gym Leaders and Cynthia now appear as minor characters.
  • Red uses a Lapras instead of an Espeon when the player challenges him.
  • After beating Red, Professor Oak will give the player character any one of the Kanto starters, while Steven will give any one of the Hoenn starters.
  • Johto starters in Heart Gold and SoulSilver.

Should’ve Added: Changed Johto Level Progression

One of the more frustrating parts of Generation 2 is the wonky level progression throughout the story. It’s fine in the beginning when the opening leaders having an appropriate challenge level, but unfortunately, this quickly changes. The fifth, sixth, and seventh gym leaders can be fought in any order, which leads to them all being under-leveled.

Combined with their small teams, they pose little to no threat to a player that’s prepared at all. On the other hand, the Elite Four are way higher leveled, which forces the player to grind before fighting them. Bringing this back in the remakes is a decision that players still struggle to understand.

Could Pokmon Go Back To Black And White’s Unova Again

Gen 5, Unova, had its remake one year after the release of the original games. However, that’s no reason for there not to be another one. The original Pokémon Black and White released in 2011, and Black and White 2 released in 2012, both with Reshiram and Zekrom as the version exclusive legendary Pokémon. They were also the last games to feature the series’ classic art style before it moved to 3D, so seeing them with new graphics would be a welcome prospect.

If Unova did receive another remake, it’s a toss-up as to whether the story would be based on the originals, the first remakes, a combination, or something new entirely. Remaining faithful to either the first or second games is the most likely possibility, especially with the new graphics and the fact that Unova was already remade in Black and White 2. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl demonstrated that entirely faithful remakes are not an impossibility. A combination of the two, with all of the Pokémon Gym leaders and both sets of protagonists appearing in some form, could be a real treat and a welcome innovation on the part of the Pokémon series.
