As you journey through the world playing Pokémon GO, you have various opportunities to gain experience that will allow you to level up as a trainer. At level 5, you can access gyms where you can battle other trainers. As you level up, you will begin to encounter rarer, more powerful Pokémon – and more valuable items at PokéStops.

Here Are Some Tips For Finding Pokmon

Long range

Whenever a Pokémon appears, as long as its on screen, you can tap it to begin the catching process no matter how far away it is from you.

Youll get another shot

Dont give up if a Pokémon flees while youre trying to catch it. It may reappear on the map, so you may get another chance.

Bring all the Pokémon to your yard

Use Incense and Lure modules! Incense is a consumable item you can earn by leveling up or purchase from the Pokémon Go shop. It attracts Pokémon to you, naturally increasing your odds of spotting a rare Pokémon. It also lowers the probability of them fleeing.

Lure modules work in a similar way, but are applied to a PokéStop rather than a player. They attract Pokémon to a specific location for 30 minutes. This benefits all players in the area. So, if you see a PokéStop on your map with pink, confetti-like animation, go there for a better chance of finding Pokémon. Add some incense and youre likely to be swarmed by the little monsters.

Dont forget about events!

Tune in for monthly community days and other Niantic events. These are always broadcast in your Pokémon Go app and often focus on Pokémon from a particular region or of a particular type. The community day each month is a great way to get out and catch a specific, usually rare, kind of Pokémon as well. Keep an eye out for special events to quickly find lots of Pokémon and jumpstart the path to some evolutions.

The Old Reliable Evolutions

An easier method, that’s a lot more reliable, is to catch a bunch of common Pokemon that have a low Candy cost to evolve, like Weedle, Pidgey, Caterpie, Wurmple, and Whismur, and earn XP by performing a ton of evolutions in quick succession.

What you want to do, is go crazy and catch as many of these common Pokemon as you can, building up a stockpile of Candy. You can transfer excess Pokemon to gain extra Candy if you’ve got too many Pokemon, though we’d recommend doing this after evolving each one so you still get the XP.

Then, simply pop a Lucky Egg and evolve all of your common Pokemon you can until the timer runs out. If done correctly, and quickly, it’s entirely possible to evolve around 60 Pokemon per 30 minute period. That’s an absolute ton of XP for very little effort.

We also recommend saving any new evolutions you haven’t performed yet for when the Lucky Egg is active, so you double the extra XP you earn from a new evolution.

Does It Make A Difference To Cp If You Feed Candies Before Or After Evolving

When activating the evolution for a caught Pokemon, it seems to amplify the Combat Power . Thus it seems most beneficial to evolve your Pokemon with the highest CP, if you have multiple of the same kind.

But what I am not sure about is whether it makes an efficiency difference if you spend candies and dust to boost CP before evolving, to gain more from the amplification? Or is it more efficient to just evolve without spending, and then using the leftover candies afterwards, since they now give a bigger CP boost per candy?

I only tested with a Rattata so far, which gained +8 CP per candy before evolving, and +15 CP afterwards. I collected no numbers on the amplification efficiency though, and now ran out of materials for further testing.

Or maybe it is a balanced calculation and makes no difference at all? I would love to have some insight on that.

Some data I collected thus far:

79 CP Weedle evolved to:84 CP Kakuna , evolved at 90 CP to:297 CP Beedrill

Note: The max-CP half circle in the profile stayed filled roughly at the same relative position throughout the evolutions.

When you evolve a Pokemon, its CP circle stays as full as it did before.

As a result, it really doesnt matter in which order you boost a Pokemon. However, you should keep a few points in mind:

  • Powerups cost more Candies the more CP a Pokemon has .
  • Powerups cost more Stardust the more CP a Pokemon has .

Cost will increase every second powerup.

There is no difference.

It should make no difference at all.

Check For Pokemon Around You

How to Level Up in Pokémon GO: 13 Steps (with Pictures ...

Every now and again, you’ll see Pokemon pop up within your radius right from where you are. If you live in a highly-populated area, there will be more of them but even rural areas will see them pop up now and again, if you’re willing to keep checking in on the app.

Catch the Pokemon you see for those EXP points and candies, and make sure never to miss the new ones! Catching new Pokemon affords more EXP points than ones you already have.

Traditional Individual Pokmon Level

But, as we mentioned, regardless of the main mechanic being Combat Points , traditional Pokémon Level still exists and has a very important place in the game. When you tap on a wild Pokémon on the main map, but before you actually see the Pokémon in the encounter screen, the wild Pokémon is randomly assigned a Level. This Level is assigned for you personally, which is why sometimes when you are walking around with a friend, you will both tap the same Rattata and yours will be CP 10 while theirs is CP 400. Your Rattata mightve been randomly assigned the number 1 for its Level, while your friends Rattata may have been randomly assigned the number 30. The range of numbers that a Pokémon can have randomly assigned to it must be at or below your current trainer Level. That is why you encounter stronger Pokémon as your Trainer Levels up, and why everyones first Pokémon caught at Trainer Level is always at Pokémon Level 1. The only thing that changes is the range of potential numbers that it can be assigned for its Level.

How To Train And Evolve Your Pokmon

Your goal may be catching one of every Pokémon, but you need to grab many Pokémon to be successful in Pokémon Go. The only way to power up and evolve your Pokémon is by feeding them candies and Stardust, which are collected by catching Pokémon, hatching Pokémon, making a Pokémon your buddy and walking with it, and by transferring them to Professor Willow. You can transfer Pokémon you dont want by highlighting them on the Pokémon Menu Screen and choosing the Transfer menu option, and you can evolve Pokémon by choosing Evolve when you select one on the Pokémon Menu.

Evolving your Pokémon is one of the main goals of the game, but it takes effort. In order to evolve, say, an Eevee, you will need 25 Eevee candies, which only come from catching or hatching Eevees or from Pokémon that evolve from Eevee. Every Eevee you catch nets you three candies, and transferring them grants you another per transferred Pokémon. So, for each extra Eevee you catch and transfer, you get four candies, meaning youll need to catch seven Eevees in total to evolve just one.

Different Pokémon evolutions require different amounts of candies. Evolving a Ghastly to Haunter, for example, only requires 25 Ghastly candies, whereas evolving a Haunter to a Gengar will require another 100 Ghastly candies. If you want to evolve a Magikarp to a Gyarados, youll need a whopping 400 Magikarp candies.

    More Berries Than Ever

POKÉMON GO: How To Level Up REALLY FAST in Pokémon GO! (Quickest Way To Level Up Your Trainer!)

We explained in our primer that razz berries are items you can feed a Pokemon to slow it down before you capture it. Updates have introduced multiple types of berries that each have different effects.Nanab Berries: Use these berries to slow down a wild Pokemon’s movements. Strategic use of these can be key to capturing a particularly elusive ‘Mon.Pinap Berries: These double the amount of Candy you get as a reward if your next attempt to capture a Pokemon succeeds. It’s a bit of a risk though, because if you fail to capture your next target the berry goes to waste.Razz Berries: Mechanics haven’t changed here. Razz Berries can still be fed to a wild Pokemon to make it easier to catch.Golden Razz Berries: Like their less shiny cousins, the Golden Razz Berries have the same function of making it easy to capture wild Pokemon, but are much more powerful. You can use berries in tandem with a stronger Pokeball to catch particularly feisty or extremely rare Pokemon that cross your path. However, don’t use multiple berries at a time since their effects don’t stack. One of the aspiring trainers right here in the PCMag Labs caught themselves a Dragonair doing just that. Feed the Pokemon a razz berry, take out a Great Ball, give it some good arc on your throw, and catching just got a whole lot easier.

Level Up Fast In Pokemon Go

If you thought the whole half hour comment was a bit specific you have some keen intuition. When you become a level 9 trainer you get your very first free Lucky Egg. This handy little item doubles the experience you gain from ANYTHING for an entire 30 minutes. So, when you catch that Pidgey that keeps popping up across the street you get 220 XP for catching it with a nice shotnot just the measly 110 XP. You might be thinking, great an extra 110 XP thats not gonna shoot me through levels.

Youre completely right, but that Pidgey you caught will. Every time you evolve a Pokemon you get 500 XP, and with the help of our little friend the Lucky Egg, thats a whopping 1000 XP. Double that if you evolve something and reveal a new Pokemon in your Pokedex.

Time to explain the Pidgey comment with a little math. Pidgeys require just 12 candies to evolve. As do Weedles and Caterpies making them the lowest candy cost Pokemon to evolve. They also just happen to be some of the most common . This means, while gaining 3 candies per Pidgey caught you can evolve 1 pidgey for every 4 you catch. On top of that, you can get another candy by transferring these Pidgeys post evolution. With 123 pidgey candy and 11 Pidgeys you can evolve all 11 of the farm fodder to the tune of 11,000 XP.

How To Evolve And Level Up Pokmon In Pokmon Go

Pokémon Go is different than the Pokémon games you may have played as a kid. You can play it on your iPhone or Android phone, for one. You have to move around in the real world to catch virtual critters. We’ve already shared our Pokemon Go tips, tricks, and cheats with you, but now we’re getting more specific. Now we’re going to talk evolution.

Unlike the old Nintendo games, you don’t use your own Pokémon to catch new ones you instead rely on your own personal Trainer Level, your items, and your tap-and flick mastery. This means your active Pokémon won’t get any XP love as you wander about the world catching critters if you want them to get better in the Pokémon Go universe, you have to use Stardust and breed-specific Candy.

When Defending A Gym Get Free Stuff

Pokemon Go: tips for gaining XP and leveling up fast

Now that youve got a Pokemon defending a gym, go to the in-game Shop, tap the Shield icon and get free Coins and Stardust. Coins are in-game currency that you can use to buy items like Pokeballs, Potions, and even bigger item bags. You can also buy coins with real-world money! What, did you think there were no micro-transactions in innocent little Pokémon Go? Of course, the only real way to play for free is to acquire Coins by assigning a Pokemon to defend a gym. Pressing the Shield will get you 10 coins and 500 Stardust per each Pokemon of yours defending that gym. However, you need to wait 21 hours before you can tap the Shield again! So be sure to defend the gym, or place Pokemon in multiple gyms! Ah, dont you love Energy mechanics in mobile games?

    Team Time: Long Live Valor

If you’re just starting out, you may notice gyms that are blue, red, or yellow. And you’ve probably figured out that you can’t do anything with gyms yet! That’s because you need to be at Level 5. Once you are, visit a gym and join one of three teams: Team Mystic , Team Valor , or Team Instinct . Each team has a leader: Blanche for blue, Candela for red, and Spark for yellow. Not only that, each team represents one of the three Legendary Birds: Articuno for blue, Moltres for red, and Zapdos for yellow.

    Evolve That Eevee Rename It

If you remember the original Pokemon cartoon, you may recall the three Eevee Brothers, who each owned one of Eevee’s evolutions: a Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon. If you nickname your Eevee one of the brothers’ punny names, then it will evolve into your desired evolution! Want a Flareon? Then name it Pyro. Want a Jolteon? Name it Sparky! Jonesing for a Vaporeon? Then call it Rainer. This may not work all the time, however it’s an almost-guaranteed way to evolve one of your Eevees, but this weird method may not work 100 percent of the time.

Here’s How To Level Up Past 40 In Pokmon Go

For long-time players of Pokémon Go, level 50 has been nothing more than a pipedream for years. While it may not sound like a lot, the current level cap sits at level 40, and only an elite and dedicated subsection of players ever reach that cap. After that, they can continue earning experience and catching Pokémon, but leveling just stops.

Its much like training your Pikachu up to level 100 in the main series games. But in Pokémon Go, level50 is the new limit. It would be like Pokémon Sword and Shield turning around and saying that you can now train your lovely Pikachu up to level 125. Put simply: its game-changing. Everything will change, from Go Battle League metas to the best raid counters.

However, as well as just grinding out experience points which is easier than ever to do now trainers will have to complete challenges in order to level up from level 40 onwards. We already have a good idea of what those challenges will be, but well also keep this page updated once we know the specifics.
