Mega Evolution Can Cause Some Pokmon To Lose Control And Even Turn On Their Trainers
While Korrina’s Lucario eventually learned to control its powers while it was Mega Evolved, there are plenty of Pokédex entries that detail the dark nature of Mega Evolution and the impact it can have on some Pokémon.
While some Pokémon are harmed by the process, others lose control to the point that they will actively seek to harm their own trainers. Mega Salamence and Mega Gengar are both examples of this phenomenon their Moon and Ultra Sun Pokédex entries imply that they sometimes attack their trainers after they’re Mega Evolved.
How To Mega Evolve Charizard In Pokemon Go
Mega Evolution was first introduced to Pokemon in the Nintendo 3DS series debut games, Pokemon X and Y. The pool of Mega Evolve-capable Pokemon was relatively small, but one of the cool twists was that a few Pokemon had version-exclusive Mega forms. This includes Charizard, which evolved into either Mega Charizard X or Mega Charizard Y depending on the version you were playing. That changed both the look and typing of the Pokemon, and the same is true in Pokemon GO.
Perks Of Mega Evolution
Mega Evolution makes your Pokémon stronger, yes, but theres also a few other perks you get when you have and use a Mega Evolved Pokémon.
One perk includes bonus candy for that type of Pokémon. If you have a Mega Lopunny active, youll get bonus Buneary Candy when you catch Buneary or Lopunny.
When you raid with Mega Evolved Pokémon, they boost stats of your allies Pokémon, as well as give an additional type boost to Pokémon of the same type. For example, if you use a Mega Lopunny, normal- and fighting-type moves will get boosted.

How To Get Mega Energy Pokmon Go
Now to the main section. Remember that Mega Energy is unique to every Pokemon and works like Candy in Pokemon Go. For instance, if one player wishes a Mega Bulbasaur to become a Mega Bulbasaur, it will take Mega Energy for Bulbasaur.
But how could you at Pokemon Go get Mega Energy? We can reach the bottom by carrying out raids, doing research work and walking with a Pokemon buddy.
Bonus Candy From Catches
If a mega evolved Pokémon is your buddy, and you catch a Pokémon of the same species , youll get extra candy from your catch.
For example, if Mega Charizard X is your buddy and you catch Charmander, Charmeleon or Charizard in the wild, youll get extra candy.
But if you use a pinap berry, this does not multiply the candy bonus.

Pokemon Go Mega Evolution: Everything You Need To Know
Make certain Pokemon stronger for a limited time.
After being teased on social media, the Mega Evolution feature has officially gone live in Pokemon Go, giving you the ability to temporarily make certain Pokemon stronger by Mega Evolving them.
At launch, only four Pokemon are capable of Mega Evolution: Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Beedrill .
Before you can Mega Evolve one of these Pokemon, youll need to collect a new resource called Mega Energy. Similar to Pokemon Candy, Mega Energy is specific to each Pokemon species.
You can collect Mega Energy by completing Mega Raids. As you might have guessed, Mega Raids are Raids against Mega-Evolved Pokemon. The faster you defeat one of these Pokemon in a Raid, the more Mega Energy youll receive for that Pokemon species.
Once you have enough Mega Energy for a Pokemon, you can Mega Evolve it. A Pokemon will only remain Mega Evolved for four hours. During that time, you can use the Mega-Evolved Pokemon to complete Raids, battle against Team Go Rocket, battle in Gyms, and compete against your friends in Trainer battles.
When a Mega-Evolved Pokemon participates in a Raid, an attack boost will be given to every other Pokemon in the Raid. Plus, in a news post, Niantic, the games developer, said, Pokémon whose attack types are the same type as any of the Mega-Evolved Pokémons types will receive an additional attack boost for those attacks.
There are some important things to keep in mind when it comes to Mega Evolution:
It Can Only Be Utilized Once Per Battle
A general rule of thumb throughout the Pokémon franchise is that Mega Evolution can only be utilized once per battle on a single species. In the anime, a Mega Evolved Pokémon is often used as a trainer’s trump card to finish off a battle, and they are never seen being switched out for an alternative.

In the games, the rule of one Mega Evolution per battle also applies, so if a Mega Evolved Pokémon faints, even if a revive is used on said Pokémon, it cannot Mega Evolve again in the current battle. While such restrictions make sense and mirror the restrictions set to Dynamaxing in Gen VIII, it would still be useful to use multiple Mega Evolved Pokémon in particularly tough battles.

Your Pokmon Will Be Useful In A Raiding Event
Instead of rushing to complete your Mega Dex, a strategic time to Mega Evolve your Pokémon would be if there is a raiding event where your it will be useful. A Cresselia Raid Hour, for example, would be a terrific time to Mega Evolve Beedrill. Beedrill, in its Mega Form, is one of the top Cresselia counters and will boost all other Bug-type Pokémon, which Cresselia, as a Psychic-type, is weak to. These sort of events, where you know you’ll be raiding against a Pokémon weak to your Mega for an extended period of time, is the most recommended time to Mega Evolve. You can follow our raid guides to see if your potential Mega Pokémon is worth evolving for upcoming raid events.
The Update To Mega Evolution: A Review
On October 15, 2020, Niantic announced some new changes to the nearly universally maligned Mega Evolution system:
- Mega Evolutions now last twice as long, now lasting for a total of eight hours once Mega Evolved.
- The Mega Energy cap per species has been raised from 999 to 2,000
So outright, this is objectively good. Niantic is starting to address our issues with Mega Evolution. But just how much of the issue does this actually address? Let’s take a look at these two effects individually and see just what has truly changed:

Niantic Is Also Changing The Way Raids Work
Fortyseven CommunicationsA Mega Raid Battle featuring Mega Blastoise as a Raid Boss.
Slemon said that the Raids in Pokemon GO will Mega Evolve along with the Pokemon.
Pokemon GO is going to start rewarding faster clear times with more rewards. Slemon said that they wanted the game to acknowledge players getting better at clearing the Raids. The speed bonus will replace the team contribution bonus going forward according to an email sent to Heavy.
Niantic is also going to remove the two- and four-star Raid Battles. What theyre going to do is keep the difficulty level for one- and three-star Raids the same but give them the rewards of two- and four-star Raids respectively.
Slemon said that they made the decision based not only on what Raids the players were playing the most but how they thought about them. He said that a one-star Raid is something you can complete no matter what your level is or how many players you have. A three-star Raid is something you can solo only if youve put effort into your Pokemon and use bonuses to your advantages or if you have a couple of friends to help you out.
Slemon said that if players really miss two- or four-star Raids then theyll definitely consider finding a way to bring them back and make them work.
Warner added that when incorporating mechanics from the core Pokemon games, Niantic wants to focus on the aspects that make Pokemon GO special.

What Is Mega Evolution
Mega Evolution is a battle mechanic introduced in the Gen VI games, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Closer to Dynamaxing than it is to Evolution, Mega Evolution allows a Pokémon to become much stronger for the remainder of a single battle. the resulting Mega Pokémon will look considerably different and sometimes even have a different typing. Only select species are capable of Mega Evolution and it requires a Mega Stone specific to the species of the Pokémon. For example, if you want Ampharos to Mega Evolve, you need Ampharosite, but Absol needs Absolite. On top of the Mega Stone, the Trainer also has to have a Key Stone which is kept in a Mega Ring, Mega Bracelet, Z-Ring, or Z-Power Ring.
How To Get And Use Mega Energy
To mega evolve a Pokémon, you first need to collect mega energy.
Like candy, each Pokémon that can mega evolve has its own mega energy.
If you want a Mega Charizard, youll need to scrape together enough Charizard mega energy. But you cant use another Pokémons mega energy to get Mega Charizard.
To get mega energy, you can:
- Battle mega evolved Pokémon in raids, where youll earn the mega energy of the Pokémon youre fighting. Youll get more mega energy the faster you complete the raid
- Complete certain research tasks that reward you with mega energy for a particular Pokémon
- You can also earn mega energy by walking with your buddy Pokémon. To get this bonus, you must have previously mega evolved a Pokémon in your buddys evolutionary line. So if Mega Blastoise is in your Mega Pokédex, and you make Squirtle your buddy, youll get mega energy when walking with your buddy
You need a lotof mega energy to get a mega Pokémon, and it will take a long time before you have enough.
To make things trickier, mega evolved Pokémon are not always available in raids which is a pain as battling them is the quickest way to get mega energy.
When a mega Pokémon disappears from raids, it may be a long time before it comes back.
So when a mega evolution is starring in raids, make sure to stock up on mega energy before it leaves.
You can only carry a maximum of 2,000 mega energy per Pokémon species. But as mega energy is hard to get, this is unlikely to ever be a problem.

The Key Stone & Specific Mega Stone Must Be Found & Obtained Before Mega Evolution Is Possible
In order to make use of the powers and benefits that Mega Evolution offers trainers and their Pokémon in battle, they must first make sure that they obtain both a Key Stone and a Mega Stone relevant to that particular Pokémon. Examples of this include Alakazite and Lucarionite. The latter proves hard to acquire since it’s found deep within a mountain cave, and Korrina and Ash are forced to go and seek it out themselves.
The Key Stone must be activated by a trainer in battle when they wish to use Mega Evolution, while the Mega Stone must be held by the Pokémon in question.
What Mega Evolutions Are Available In Pokmon Go
