Increase Your Breeding Odds Using The Masuda Method

How To EASILY Breed For Shiny Pokemon – Masuda Method & Fast Breeding Guide

The Masuda Method is a technique for breeding Shiny Pokemon which has been present in the series since Generation 3. When two Pokemon of different countries of origin are brought to a Nursery, their chances of producing a Shiny egg increase significantly.

In comparison to the usual 1/4096 rate for breeding Shinies, the Masuda Method results in an increase to a whopping 1/683 odds. Still few and far between, but that’s progress, right? As this method relies on breeding, it can be said to be more effective for encountering Star Shinies.

Players often seek to find foreign Dittos for this reason, as Dittos are extremely useful for breeding Pokemon with high IVs, so a foreign Ditto, especially one with high IVs itself, is a must for players hoping to breed a Shiny ready for online competitive play. How To Breed Shiny Pokmon

Breeding a Shiny is a little bit different. A lot of people will use the Masuda Method, which was named after Game Freaks Junichi Masuda. Masuda was the director who added the feature to the game. This method requires getting a parent Pokémon from a player who plays the game in another language and breed it. When using Pokemon from two different language games, a Shiny Pokémon is six times more likely to hatch from the eggs. However, there is still some debate as to what effects this Shiny rate. Some players feel its not necessarily language, but rather region that is the determining factor. However, the Masuda Method definitely increases the chances of hatching a shiny.

The easiest way to hatch a Shiny Pokémon is to get your hands on a foreign Ditto. Catch a Ditto from your region and find someone in another country with a Ditto theyre willing to trade. This way, every Pokémon you breed from here on our will have the Masuda Methods chances behind it.

How To Shiny Chain In Pokemon Sword And Shield

So while encountering 500 of the same Pokemon will increase the odds of you finding a shiny, that isn’t the same as shiny chaining. If you encounter and then defeat or catch up to 25 of the same Pokemon species in a row, the odds of finding a shiny are increased even further. If you stumble into one that isn’t the same species, make sure you run away and don’t catch it or let it faint, because your chain will be reset.

Once you hit a chain of 25, that’s the maximum you can shiny chain in Sword and Shield. Combine all three methods and your odds of encountering a shiny will increase drastically, from the base 1/4096 to 1/455.

You Can Increase Your Chances Of Finding A Unique

You can increase your chances of finding a unique-colored Pokémon.

One of the most exciting things about playing any Pokémon game is encountering a Shiny Pokémon, rare creatures that have different coloring than usual. Some stand out significantly with very different coloring while others are simply a different shade of the same hues. For instance, Chimchar’s red-brown fur is pink in its shiny variant while Shiny Piplup is only a slightly lighter shade of blue. Your default odds of finding or breeding a shiny in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are 1/4096, but fortunately, there are some things you can do that can increase your chances by quite a bit.

Does Having Shiny Parent Increase Chances

In generation II, having a shiny parent did raise the chances of hatching a shiny pokemon. However, after gen II, the chances of a shiny are NOT increased if either of the parents of shiny. So if youre playing anything other than Gold, Crystal, or Silver, having a shiny parent wont increase the shiny rate.

How Does The Masuda Method Work

The main condition that must be met in order for increased shiny odds to occur is that both Pokemon must be from a game of a different language, such as English and Japanese. A Pokemon’s game origins can be identified by a three-letter language tag in their summary, such as “ITA” for Italian. If there is no tag, then the Pokemon comes from the player’s own language.

The specific shiny odds for the Masuda method vary between generations:

    • In Generation IV, the regular odds of 1/8192 are multiplied by 5, resulting in 1/1638 or 0.061% chance.
    • In Generation V, the regular odds of 1/8192 are multiplied by 6, resulting in 1/1365 or 0.073% chance.
    • In Generation VI and onwards, the regular odds were increased to 1/4096, which multiplied by 6 results in 1/683 or 0.146% chance.

The great thing about the Masuda method is that players have control over the Pokemon they are shiny hunting. Players can determine what moves the Pokemon has, their nature, and even the Pokemon’s IVs. In short, a Pokemon’s IVs are like their genetic code that determines how strong it can be grow to be in each of its stats. Being able to have great IVs means that shiny Pokemon obtained using this method are quite strong and can be used competitively as well.

Does A Shiny Ditto Breed Shinies

How to Breed Shiny Pokemon Using the Masuda Method

If you mean will having a shiny Ditto as one of the parents increase the shiny rate, then no, as having shiny parents do not affect the chance if hatching a shiny Pokémon. So for example, if you have a Japanese Ditto and breed it with an American Charmander, then the chances of hatching a shiny are increased.

How Are Shiny Odds Affected By Breeding Shiny Parents In Pokemon Gsc

    pokemon-second-generation

I have heard that if you use shiny parents in Pokémon GSC, the likelihood of hatching a shiny Pokémon will be increased.

Is this true? and if so, what are the odds?

    Best Answer

Yes, shiny parents are more likely to produce shiny offspring in generatation 2. The chance is 1/64 in any of the following cases:

    • Both parents are shiny
    • One parent is a shiny Ditto
    • One parent is shiny, the other is not Ditto, and the child is the opposite sex of the shiny parent

This is due to the way stats are passed down. IVs, which are responsible for shininess, are partially inherited from the Ditto parent if a Ditto is involved, or from the opposite parent if not, i.e. a male baby will inherit based on its mother’s IVs.

Since a shiny pokemon has, by definition, the correct IVs to be shiny, inheriting those stats increases the chance of being shiny.

The maths itself, and the 1/64 chance, can be found in this answer.

You may have heard whispers of the elusive square shinies in Pokemon Sword and Shield, so let us shed some light on the situation. In an effort to add even more longevity to Galar by Game Freak, you can now find two types of shiny Pokemon standard and square. Standard shinies are the shiny Pokemon everyone knows and loves from previous games, while square shinies are brand new.

On paper, for every shiny encounter in the game, it has a 1/16 chance of being a square shiny instead of the standard. You’ll be able to tell whether it’s standard or square by the intro animation the usual stars will be replaced by square outlines, but the difference in colour palette is still the same. Don’t worry, square shinies aren’t a different shade!

It’s not quite as simple as that however. If you follow the chaining method explained above by catching or defeating 25 of the same Pokemon in a row, those 1/16 odds will be flipped. Instead, you’ll have 15/16 odds of finding a square shiny, and just 1/16 of the shiny being standard.

How To Increase Shiny Pokmon Breeding Odds With The Masuda Method

In order to increase the chances of breeding a Shiny Pokémon, the player needs to acquire a parent Pokémon that comes from a different-language region. Pokémon from different real-world regions each have a three-letter word on their summary page that denotes that region, such as “JPN” or “ITA.” Many players seek out foreign Ditto for this reason, as they can breed with almost any Pokémon. In Pokémon Sword and Shield, using this method will increase the chances of a Shiny Pokémon hatching from 1/1365 to 1/683. This effect can also be increased even further by owning the Shiny Charm.

Masuda mentioned this method was added to the game to encourage players to use the Global Trade System, which debuted in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The Masuda Method is still used by fans to this day, with professional Shiny breeders actively hunting foreign Pokémon to use for the express purpose of creating more Shinies.

How to Breed for a Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire | Masuda Method

International Breeding, also dubbed by fans as the Masuda Method, has been around since the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. This makes it so when Pokémon of different languages of origin are bred together, the chances of them producing a shiny offspring increases. This feature was coded in by Diamond and Pearls director, Janushi Masuda, and was created to incentivize people to use the Global Trade System from those games.

Within Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, youll hit the jackpot if you get a Ditto from another language in a trade as this will allow you to breed with any Pokémon you own with increased shiny chances. You should offer a Ditto of your own in online trading to more likely find someone willing to swap.

Remember, most Legendary and Mythical Pokémon cannot breed, so dont waste your time trying to get a special shiny Pokémon of that magnitude. The only exception to this is Manaphy, which is free to anyone who unlocks it before Feb. 21, 2022 at 3:59 p.m. PT.

Will Two Shinies Breed A Shiny

There is no guarentee of a shiny offspring from two parents.

In Gen 2, breeding shiny parents together could impact the odds of the offspring being shiny, since the shininess was determined by IVs.

in addition, What happens if you breed a shiny Pokémon with Ditto?

1 Answer. Yes, it is possible to hatch a shiny even if one of the parents is Ditto, it is no different than breeding with other Pokémon, the chance will still be 1/4096.

Also, What happens if you breed two dittos?

Ditto is able to breed with other Pokémon ostensibly because of its ability to transform into other Pokémon. If it was paired with another Ditto, it wouldnt have anything to transform into, and since Ditto are genderless, would therefore have no reproductive organs.

in the same way Does shiny Ditto transform into Shinies? If the opponent is shiny, shiny Ditto will Transform into shiny. If the opponent is not shiny, shiny Ditto will Transform into normal coloration.

Does hatching eggs increase shiny chance?

No. The parents being shiny or not have no impacton the Pokemon being shiny when it hatches from the egg.

      Useful Abilities And Items

While there are Pokémon useful in the daycare, there are also Pokémon useful outside of the daycare, too. Most notably, Pokémon with either the ability Flame Body or Steam Engine are at the top of the list. Having a Pokémon with either of these abilities in your party causes all Eggs in your party to have their Egg cycles cut in half. Hatching Eggs twice as fast is, as you can imagine, very convenient when you have lots of Eggs to hatch. Keep in mind that this effect does not stack having four Pokémon with Flame Body and/or Steam Engine in your party will still only halve Egg cycles once, not four times.

Beyond useful Pokémon, there are also useful items to consider to ease along the breeding process. No matter which Pokémon you choose to keep in your party to accelerate Egg hatch times, it is optimal to have the front of your party holding a Smoke Ball. It’s possible that cycling in circles could lead you into a wild encounter, and being able to flee no matter what is always handy. The Smoke Ball can be found in the Slumbering Weald or held by wild Pokémon such as Koffing, Salandit, and Salazzle, or it can be produced at the Cram-O-Matic through a variety of recipes, more of which can be found here:

      Side Notes On Shiny Pokmon

Shiny Hunting Guide for Pokémon SWSH

There are a few last things to know while out hunting shinies in Galar. Dynamaxed Pokémon in Max Raid Battles can be shiny, so players who love to partake in raids in the Wild Area have a chance of finding a Shiny raid boss. Youll be able to see the shiny effects on the enemy model as your facing off against it. By contrast, you wont be able to see if a Pokémon is shiny on the outer world. Although in Pokémon Lets Go we could see whether or not a Pokémon was shiny before trying to catch it, that mechanic did not make it to Sword and Shield. You wont know if a Pokémon is shiny until after you initiate battle.

When hunting Shiny Pokémon, remember that you wont find any Shiny Pokémon that are beyond your catch level. If you find a Pokémon in the Wild Area that is too high a level for you to catch, its okay. That Pokémon will not be Shiny so you wont miss out!

Finally, as of right now, Legendary Pokémon will not be shiny. Although the game will tease you with Shiny legendary sprites and models, its impossible to find these Shiny legendary Pokémon out in the wild. Not one of the three legendary Pokémon in Sword and Shield can be shiny just yet, so dont feel jealous if you see a player with a Shiny legendary. Chances are, theyve hacked their game to make you jealous.
