How To Get Pokemon Go Special Items

If you wonder where to find Pokemon GO Special Items, you dont have to go out of your way to get these evolution items. Like all other items, you can collect them by spinning the Photo Disc at a PokeStop. Note, however, that the Pokemon GO Evolution Items drop rate is very low. Youll have to get lucky, thats all there is to it. Completing a seven-day PokeStop streak seems to increase the chances of a drop on the seventh day, according to trainers, so that might help.

Bottom line, theres no definite way to know if youll get any Evolution item or not. You just have to keep spinning those PokeStops and hope for the best.

How Can You Get A Metal Coat In Pokmon Go

Pokémon Go: How To Use Metal Coat to evolve Scyther into Scizor

Just like other consumables in the game, youll be able to get a Metal Coat from spinning PokéStops. Due to the low drop rate of the item, around one percent, it may take approximately 500 spins before you find your first Metal Coat on an unlucky day. The main reason behind the high spin number is that the Metal Coat shares a similar drop rate with other evolutionary items. Youll need to get lucky twiceonce to get an evolutionary item off a PokéStop and one more time for it to be a Metal Coat.

You can use the daily bonus system to increase the number of items you can get from a PokéStop, increasing your chances of getting a Metal Coat even by a slight margin. If you visit a PokéStop for seven days in a row, youll receive more items each day, and the bonus will reach its maximum potential on the seven-day mark.

If you enjoy the games PvP aspect, you can also try competing in the Go Battle League for a mystery item. Though the drop rate of Metal Coats from the mystery item reward is unknown, its expected to be as low as its availability from PokéStops.

Who Can Evolve With The Metal Coat

In Pokemon GO, there are two different Pokemon that can evolve using the Metal Coat item in the game. Players can use the Metal Coat on Onix to evolve it into Steelix, or they can use the Metal Coat on Scyther to involve it into Scizor. However, before they use the Metal Coat on either Pokemon, players should note that all the Pokemon involved in this process are rare, as is the Metal Coat itself.

Players that have tirelessly collected all the Pokemon in Pokemon GO may want to make sure that they have an extra Scyther and Onix handy before they evolve them into their next form. Onix and Scyther have always been rare Pokemon in the game, and now that there are second generation Pokemon out in the wild as well, they may be even more difficult to find than usual.

Unless one lives in a PokeStop-heavy area, it will likely take a while to collect the two Metal Coats necessary to obtain Steelix and Scizor. On the bright side, players will have plenty of time to collect a backup Scyther and Onix while grinding for Metal Coats, so that when they do evolve them, they won’t lose any Pokemon in their collection.

Even after obtaining enough Metal Coats to evolve both Onix and Scyther, players will still have plenty of other second generation Pokemon to collect in Pokemon GO, including rare ones like Unown, Heracross, and more. As they continue their quest to catch them all, Pokemon GO fans will want to hit as many PokeStops as possible to collect the rest of the evolution stones.

How To Evolve Scyther Into Scizor In Pokmon Go

Back in the main series of Pokémon games, Scyther’s evolution into Scizor was somewhat awkward, requiring not only the Metal Coat held item but a friend to trade with too.

In Pokémon Go things are a little easier. You’ll still need to find yourself a Metal Coat, but instead of any kind of trading required, you’ll just need another 50 Candy to evolve your Scyther into Scizor, which can be done from the same in-game menu as you would for evolving any other Pokémon with the standard Candy method so far.

Note that the Metal Coat will be consumed in the process though, just like your Candy is when evolving as usual, so be sure this is the one you want to evolve!

Metal Coat Farming And Rng

Many Pokemon GO players will surely try their best to get as many Metal Coats as they can. This is understandable since this item is still new and rare in the game. For now the only way to get them is by way of Pokestops, according to gamerant.

Unfortunately, Pokemon GO players have no way of knowing if they can get the Metal Coat until they spin the wheel. The usual yields are potions or even Pokemon eggs but a metal coat will turn up sooner or later. The key to obtaining them boils down to patience, visiting as many Pokestops as possible and of course, RNG.

How The New Evolution Items Work In Pokmon Go

image: Dave Thier

Evolution got a bit more complicated in Pokémon GO last night. Originally it was a pretty straightforward affair: you got candy for catching, walking and transferring Pokémon, which you then used to turn your Squirtles into Wartortles, your Bellsprouts into Weepinbells and so on. For the most part, thats still how it works after the big Gen 2 update, except for a few noteworthy exceptions. Certain Pokémon now require either a steel coat, a sun stone, a kings rock, a dragon scale or an upgrade to evolve, and these items are all random drops from Pokéstops. Lets break them down:

  • The metal coat transforms Onix into Steelix or Scyther into Scizor.
  • The kings rock transforms Slowpoke into Slowking or Poliwhirl into Politoed.
  • The dragons scale transforms Seadra into Kingdra.
  • The sun stone transforms Gloom into Bellossom or Sunkern into Sunflora.
  • The upgrade transforms Porygon into Porygon2.

Note that in many of these instances the items are used for branching evolution: youll still be able to evolve Slowpoke into Slowbro using plain old candy, but youll need the kings rock as well as the candy to get yourself a Slowking. This will slow down some people that had been stockpiling candy for the purpose of filling out their Pokédex as quickly as possible: Ive got plenty of Onix candy but still no metal coat to snag my Steelix.

Pokmon Go: How To Get And Use Evolution Items And Other Special Case Evolutions

The Dragon Scale is obtained from spinning Pokestops and Gyms. There is a very low drop chance of around 1% per spin to receivea Dragon Scale or any of the other evolution item, and thereis an equal chance of obtaining each of the 5 currently available items.

There’s no way to ensure that the Dragon Scale will drop, but with only 4 other items, there’s a greater than 50% chancethat you’ll receive one once you’ve spun over 250 Pokéstops.

Pokemon Go Metal Coat: How To Use One

So youve finally got your hands on a Pokemon Go Metal Coat, but what can you do with it? Right now, theres only two Pokemon you can use it on: Scyther and Onix. Depending on which one you want to evolve, navigate to that Pokemon in your collection and youll find the evolve option.

Alongside the Metal Coat however, youll also need 50 candy for the respective Pokemon you want to evolve. Both Scyther and Onix are somewhat rare spawns in a wild, so make sure you use Pinap Berries whenever you find one and keep your fingers crossed you hatch them in eggs. Good luck!

Obtaining A Metal Coat In Pokemon Go

Like many Johto region evolutionary items in Pokemon GO like King’s Rocks and Sun Stones, Metal Coat can be obtained via spinning photo discs at Pokestops and gyms. Trainers will also be guaranteed at least one Johto region evolution item if they can achieve a seven-day spin streak, so keeping those Pokestops and gyms close is a great way to earn evolution items.

There are alternative methods for earning Metal Coats as well. Opening a fellow Pokemon GO player’s gift can sometimes present one, though this is rare. Completing research and Special Research Tasks can also reward trainers with Metal Coats during certain occasions.

Specifically, seasonal events can be great opportunities to earn the item depending on the event’s theme. There’s never quite a guarantee that Metal Coats will make their way into an event’s agenda, but Niantic is making changes to spice up Pokemon GO all the time, and it’s not unheard of for them to increase the appearance of evolution items.

I finally found a metal coat

Since there are only two real evolutions that Metal Coats can enact at this point in Pokemon GO, players aren’t likely to need many in the first place. Regardless, a little persistence in spinning photo discs and completing research tasks will likely result in the evolutionary item sooner rather than later.
