Before you begin streaming on Twitch, you need to connect your Nintendo Switch console to your computer. You will still be able to view your gameplay on your television set as usual with this setup. These instructions are for the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S, but they will also work for other similar capture devices.

  • Make sure your Nintendo Switch is in the dock. Find the HDMI cable that runs from it to your TV. Unplug the end connected to your TV and plug it into your Elgato Game Capture HD60 S.

  • Plug the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S’ USB cable into your computer. This will feed the game footage to OBS Studio.

  • Find the HDMI cable that came with the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S, then connect it to the HDMI Out port on the device. Plug the other end of this cable into the HDMI In port on your television set.

Now when you play Nintendo Switch games on your TV, your computer also receives a copy of the video and audio thanks to the connected USB cable.

Pokmon Proves Streamers Are Just Like Us

I recently watched one of Twitch megastar Jaryd “Summit1G” Lazar’s Pokémon Go streams, in which he nonchalantly said something that I found quite telling.

“Yes, I am a human that goes out of my house sometimes,” joked Lazar, inadvertently summing up what’s so appealing about watching other folks catch ’em all. When you usually watch Lazar, he’s nailing sick headshots in Counter-Strike or pulling off ridiculous heists in Grand Theft Auto V. But when you watch him play Pokémon Go, you get to see him explore his local Colorado neighborhood, interacting with fans both in-person and on the web while hitting up his favorite parks and eateries. He’s no longer just another extremely talented gamer in a chair he’s one of us.

By combining two things people love vlogging and Pokémon Twitch streamers have successfully created a wonderfully weird new way to broadcast games. But when you look at the breadth of content on Twitch these days which includes music, art, cooking and, somehow, the Republican National Convention these quirky Pokémon Go streams fit in quite well. Heck, Twitch even added a new category dedicated to watching people eat, which is what you’ll be doing half the time you view a Pokémon Go broadcast.

First of all, you need to ensure multiple things before you can begin your streaming process.

  • Check over your router and internet access and ensure that it is appropriate to be able to stream normally. This can be tested by streaming normally on Twitch. Ensure the 3DS is able to connect to the router.
  • Make sure that your Kit-Kat Slim software is somewhere easily accessible and memorable within your PC.
  • Then, you need to find the internal IP address of your Nintendo 3DS. If you are using Luma3DS, this can be found on the Rosalina menu by pressing L + Select + Down on the D-Pad, then selecting Debugger options > Enable debugging. If not, you will need to find out how to get the IP address.

    * This small portion of the guide is lifted directly from the GBATemp guide as it is exactly what is needed and contains a lot of specific technical information *

    4. On the N3DS, launch the BootNTR Selector app we previously installed. You will see a few lines of text, before returning to the Home Menu.

    5. With the cursor highlighting an empty space or folder icon, press X and Y together. A menu will appear on the touchscreen. Select enable debugger.

    6. Launch Kit-Kat Slim on your PC. If Windows Firewall or your malware protection asks you about Kit-Kat Slim, choose to allow connections. Enter your N3DS IP address in the top field:

Streaming on Twitch has become progressively more popular over the years. While the platform has mainly showcased PC and console games in the past, there has been more demand for streamers who play games designed for mobile.

Typically speaking, games designed purely for mobile tend to do better on Twitch than games like Fortnite, unless you are an outstanding Fortnite mobile player who can bring a large following from YouTube or other social media to the streaming platform.

Regardless of what you choose to stream, this post will walk you through your options on how you can stream games designed for mobile.

How To Stream To Twitch Using A Macbook

This article is over a year in the making. Ill describe how I stream to Twitch using a MacBook Pro 15 2015 El Capitan 10.11.6. My wife streams with her Macbook 13 Pro 2015 Sierra 10.12.6. If you have a newer Mac you probably wont have any USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports only USB-C. Youll need some dongles

Warning!! Dont use this. When I first started streaming I use an Elgato HD60. Since they dont write drivers for the Mac you have to use their propriety software. Its called Game Capture HD and its not very good. Im not just saying that. Ive tested this software for over a year and it has not gotten any better. Here is the article that describes the troubles youll have if you by a Elgato and Game Capture HD. I wont go into the details, but there are video and audio problem.

Get the Mac laptop or desktop to stream our games to Twitch.tv using OBS

    Hardware youll need

AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable 2. This is plug and play. The drivers are built into the kernel. There is nothing to configure. You literally plug it in and it works. You may need to update the firmware on the Avermedia. For this youll need a micro SD card. This is a great unit, only thing that I dont like about it is the main light blinks enough when its idle to give you seizure.

    Software youll need

Soundflower Software to stream audio from the Mac X-Chat Aqua Software to get audio notifications for chat messages

    OBS settings

How to get audio from the Mac into the stream

    How To Monitor Your Chat

    Pokemon Let

Easiest way to do this is to get the Twitch app and login from your second phone. You can do this on the second phone while your using Skype and just let the Skype work on the background.

Unfortunately you cant do the same with since the app closes your webcam if you tap for an another app. But there still is the possibility to just add your voice for the stream via Hangout and open the Twitch app so you can chat with your viewers. If you know a way to keep the facecam on with Google Hangouts please share it on the comments!

Use Nintendo Switch As Media Source

Next, you need to import your Nintendo Switch as a media source.

  • Right-click anywhere in OBS Studio and select Add > Video Capture Device.

  • Name this new layer something descriptive. Every media source you add to OBS Studio will need its own unique layer.

  • From the dropdown menu, find your capture device and select it. Press Okay.

  • A box showing the live footage from your Nintendo Switch should appear in OBS Studio. You can now resize it and move it with your mouse to get it the way you like.

  • If you have a webcam you want to use to capture footage of yourself while playing, make sure it’s connected to your computer and repeat the steps above, this time making sure to select your webcam from the Video Capture Device dropdown menu. Like the Nintendo Switch footage, the webcam window can be resized and moved with your mouse.

  • You can also use a microphone or headset with OBS Studio. The program should automatically detect them once they’re plugged in and their volume levels can be adjusted via the volume sliders at the bottom of the screen.

  • When you’re ready to begin broadcasting, press the Start Streaming button in the lower-right of OBS Studio. Good luck!

What Is Mobile Streaming And How To Start It

Streaming from computers and gaming consoles like Xbox One or Sony’s PS4 will ensure high image quality during broadcasts, but this shouldn’t stop you from sharing live streams of mobile games on Twitch. Mobile streaming enables you to share live gameplay videos on this platform directly from your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

There are two different ways you can broadcast mobile games on Twitch. You can either install an app that is compatible with the operating system on the Smartphone or tablet you’re using or you can install computer software that lets you cast the screen of the device you intend to use for streaming to your computer’s display.

Besides the Twitch account, and a mobile video game you’ll also need to install the live streaming app on your device. If you decide to broadcast your mobile streaming video through a computer, you’ll need to have a microphone, a webcam, and the necessary software that enables you to connect your Smartphone or tablet to a computer, as well as a live streaming software.

Let’s have a look at the actual steps you’ll need to take in order to start your first mobile game stream.

Streaming Mobile Games On Twitch Through A Computer

How To Stream Fortnite and Pokemon Go Mobile Games To Twitch (iOS/Android)

Using mobile apps for sharing live streams on Twitch has its limitations, so if you want to have more broadcasting options at your disposal you can cast your device’s screen onto your computer and use powerful broadcasting software, like OBS to share your live streams on Twitch.

You’ll have to install the Reflector 3 app on your iOS or Android-based device and use it to connect the Smartphone or tablet to a computer. The AirDrop feature can be used for this task on iPhones and iPads, while the Cast option lets you connect the two devices on Android phones.

Once you’ve successfully connected your Smartphone to a computer, you should launch the live streaming software on the computer. Select Twitch as the destination where your live stream will be broadcasted and add media sources to the software so that everything that is cast from your mobile device to the computer can be displayed in OBS or any other live streaming software you may be using. Click on the Start Streaming button after you added all the media sources to your stream you wanted.

The Main Menu And Things To Tweak Before You Stream

Once setup has finished you will be brought to the app, where there are a lot of things to discover. Spend some time familiarizing yourself with the various settings and buttons. Consider how your stream is going to run and what you want to be able to do while it’s happening.

On the left, clicking the button below ‘Main Screen Share’ allows you to choose what part of your screen will share with your viewers. You could choose to share an entire monitor or just one particular app.

Hovering over a scene on the lefthand menu will bring up a button labelled ‘Edit.’ Selecting this will allow you to tweak the scenes to your tastes with lots of customization options, including images, countdowns, Twitch alerts, and more.
