Pokemon Go Wiki Guide

The Metal Coat in Pokemon Go is yet another new Evolution Items that can be used in conjunction with Pokemon Candy to evolve some of the Gen 1 Pokemon to new Gen 2 evolutions.

Initially there were rumors indicating that Evolution Items were guaranteed rewards for 7-day Pokestop streaks, but that has been discredited. Evolution items are incredibly rare and have less than a 1% chance of being found at Pokestops.

However, as of an app update in late March 2017 you are now guaranteed an Evolution Item for a 7-day Pokestop streak.

Currently, there are two applicable Pokemon for this item: Onix, who can now be evolved into Steelix using 1 Metal Coat and 50 OnixCandy.

Scyther can also use 50 ScytherCandy and 1 Metal Coat in Pokemon Go to evolve into Scizor.

What Are The Chances Of Finding A Metal Coat In Pokemon Go

The answer is that its much harder to get the Metal Coat in Pokemon GO than it is in almost every other game where its available. The only method at the moment of getting a Metal Coat is getting lucky by spinning PokeStops, but this method only has a 1% success rate.

People online have determined that it usually takes about 250 spins before a trainer finds a Metal Coat. While this may seem like a very tedious task, trainers who want to excel at Pokemon GO should want to spin PokeStops on a daily basis.

The rewards that come from spinning PokeStops add up over time, including the XP gain. Trainers who are already spinning every day will be hoping to have a Metal Coat somewhere in their items tab.

Looking for a Metal Coat may be frustrating, but worth some effort since both Scizor and Steelix can be useful in Pokemon GO. In Scizors case, it isnt the strongest option, but it can be a great Pokemon to throw on a gym defense team.

Being part Bug-type and part Steel-type, Scizor is only weak to Fire. It also resists many common types like Fairy and Psychic. It also could compete well in the Great League due to its typing and bulk.

Steelix is useful simply due to the fact that 272 is one of the highest Defense stats in the game. 148 Attack isnt that impressive, but Steelix gets access to really nice charge moves. Earthquake is always guaranteed to do damage, and moves like Heavy Slam and Crunch offer nice coverage.

How To Evolve Onix Into Steelix

In order to evolve your Onix into Steelix, like you did with Scyther, you will have to get hold of a Metal Coat. Give your Onix the Metal Coat, trade it with another trainer and this will finally trigger the evolution of Onix into Steelix. You will also need 50 candies. Steelix can also evolve during battles in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire into Mega Steelix.

Onix is a dual-type Rock/Ground Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

How To Get Evolution Items

The only way to get evolution items is by spinning PokeStops. Like with the new berries, though, they dont drop as often as balls and razz berries. After more than fifty spins at various stops, I only got one sun stone. Many others are reporting similar findings, with some reporting a drop rate of 1 percent or less. Your mileage may vary, but dont expect to collect them quickly.

If you play the game every day, you can get at least one evolution item per week, though. When you get the seven-day streak bonus one evolution item is guaranteed to drop. This only counts for the First PokeStop of the Day streak, not the First Pokemon of the Day streak. The evolution item you get is totally random, but its better than just relying on a PokeStop drops.

Where To Get Metal Coat In Bdsp

One way to get Metal Coat is by talking to Bryon in his home on Iron Island. But you can only do that once you have your National Dex.

You can get a Metal Coat beforehand through wild Bronzor and wild Magnemite. Both Pokemon have a 5% chance of holding a Metal Coat. Bronzor can be found in the Wayward Cave underneath Cycling Road on Route 206. Magnemite can be spotted in the Underground.

You can steal the Metal Coat with the move Thief. Make sure the Pokemon that is using Thief isnt holding anything already as it will not be able to hold onto the item it steals if it already has something on.

Youll probably have to go through several Bronzors or Magnemite before you successfully steal a Metal Coat. The Compound Eyes ability increases the chances of encountering a wild Pokemon with a held item. It will increase the 5% chance of a wild Pokemon holding an item to a 50% chance.

The ability is a very helpful tool in trying to find Metal Coats. However, Compound Eyes are only found in Butterfree and Yanma. Both Pokemon are only available in the post-game after you received your National Dex.

Unfortunately, due to its identification as a rare item, it is nearly impossible for the new players to get their hands on the Metal Coat in Pokemon Go. You can try and spin the PokeStops to get your first Metal Coat. However, it will take you less than 500 spins to get the item if you are having a lucky day. The reason behind such an extensive spin is the low drop rate of the object, which happens to be around 1%. Dont think that you only need a little luck because, first of all, you need to get an evolutionary item from the drop, and then you need it to be the Metal Coat.

Who Can Evolve With The Metal Coat

In Pokemon GO, there are two different Pokemon that can evolve using the Metal Coat item in the game. Players can use the Metal Coat on Onix to evolve it into Steelix, or they can use the Metal Coat on Scyther to involve it into Scizor. However, before they use the Metal Coat on either Pokemon, players should note that all the Pokemon involved in this process are rare, as is the Metal Coat itself.

Players that have tirelessly collected all the Pokemon in Pokemon GO may want to make sure that they have an extra Scyther and Onix handy before they evolve them into their next form. Onix and Scyther have always been rare Pokemon in the game, and now that there are second generation Pokemon out in the wild as well, they may be even more difficult to find than usual.

Unless one lives in a PokeStop-heavy area, it will likely take a while to collect the two Metal Coats necessary to obtain Steelix and Scizor. On the bright side, players will have plenty of time to collect a backup Scyther and Onix while grinding for Metal Coats, so that when they do evolve them, they won’t lose any Pokemon in their collection.

Even after obtaining enough Metal Coats to evolve both Onix and Scyther, players will still have plenty of other second generation Pokemon to collect in Pokemon GO, including rare ones like Unown, Heracross, and more. As they continue their quest to catch them all, Pokemon GO fans will want to hit as many PokeStops as possible to collect the rest of the evolution stones.

Metal Coat In Pokemon Go How To Get

As stated above, getting a Metal Coat in Pokemon Go is largely dependent on luck. The only way to get a Metal Coat in Pokemon Go is to find one at a PokeStop. Theres no guarantee of a Metal Coat dropping, so you could have to spin lots before you encounter one, meaning that youll likely need to a visit an urban area if possible. That way, you can make the most of having plenty of PokeStops to spin, drastically increasing your chances of finding a Metal Coat.

Aside from this, you can take advantage of the Daily Streak bonus in Pokemon Go that guarantees an evolution item as a reward for completing a simple task. The Daily Streak bonus is gained on a daily basis and rewards you for spinning your first PokeStop of the day. Spinning at least one PokeStop for seven days in a row will allow you to complete a Weekly Streak, for which youll be rewarded with a rake of items. Among these will be at least one evolution item, which could potentially be a Metal Coat.

Finding The Metal Coat In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

There are two ways to nab yourself a Metal Coat in Pokemon BDSP. The first involves locating one at a fixed location the other can technically afford you an infinite number of Metal Coats, but it can take quite some time before you manage to find one.

Unfortunately, attaching a Metal Coat to either Onix or Scyther and trading them to trigger evolution consumes the item, prohibiting future use. Whatever it is that these two Pokemon are doing with it, it’s clearly an act of premeditated violence.

For this reason, you will need to collect two Metal Coats if you want to evolve both Onix and Scyther. We’ll start with the easier of the two.

Other Evolutionary Items That You Can Use

How To Get A Metal Coat In Pokemon Go

There are good chances that you will most likely end up without a Metal Coat in the game. However, dont be disappointed that you could not find one. If you are lucky enough and find any one of the evolutionary items listed below, you are good to move forward. You can use any of these evolutionary items to evolve Scyther, Onix, and many other Pokemons to their advanced form.

Obtaining A Metal Coat In Pokemon Go

Like many Johto region evolutionary items in Pokemon GO like King’s Rocks and Sun Stones, Metal Coat can be obtained via spinning photo discs at Pokestops and gyms. Trainers will also be guaranteed at least one Johto region evolution item if they can achieve a seven-day spin streak, so keeping those Pokestops and gyms close is a great way to earn evolution items.

There are alternative methods for earning Metal Coats as well. Opening a fellow Pokemon GO player’s gift can sometimes present one, though this is rare. Completing research and Special Research Tasks can also reward trainers with Metal Coats during certain occasions.

Specifically, seasonal events can be great opportunities to earn the item depending on the event’s theme. There’s never quite a guarantee that Metal Coats will make their way into an event’s agenda, but Niantic is making changes to spice up Pokemon GO all the time, and it’s not unheard of for them to increase the appearance of evolution items.

I finally found a metal coat

Since there are only two real evolutions that Metal Coats can enact at this point in Pokemon GO, players aren’t likely to need many in the first place. Regardless, a little persistence in spinning photo discs and completing research tasks will likely result in the evolutionary item sooner rather than later.
