Pokemon Japanese Play Promo 50000 Points Espeon Gold Star

Rarest Pokemon Card In The World: Illustrator Pikachu

Sold in June, 2021 for $25,700

Earlier, we had a look at the 2005 Pokemon Japanese Play Jolteon gold star card that required 20,000 EXP Points to redeem and explained how difficult it was to achieve.

As Pokemon Players Club members completed specific actions, such as attending an event, winning a battle, or placing in a tournament, they could accumulate experience points.

As if accumulating 20,000 EXP points for the Jolteon wasn’t hard enough, those who had the endurance and capability to press on even farther could unlock the Espeon after earning 50,000 EXP points.

The holographic element mixed with the gold star designation and incredible design from Masakazu Fukuda resulted in a breathtaking card that few ever have the chance at holding.

No 1 2 And 3 Trainer Cards $90000

Now we move onto cards that you cannot pull from a set, but rather are given to winners of promotional contests, employees of the production company or close friends of those involved in the Pokémon brand.

In this case, trainer cards 1, 2, and 3 were given to the first, second, and third-place competitors of the Pokémon world championships, which is an annual invite-only competition for players of the Pokémon card game.

The card features a holographic Pikachu holding a trophy, with the text Trainer 1/2/3 along with a congratulatory message and invitation to compete in next years championships.

The value of these cards increases based on which place card it is, with $90,000 being paid for a gem mint no 1 in July 2020.

This card is an unnumbered promotional trainer card, and is the only to feature the word illustrator instead of trainer.

As of now, only 41 copies of this card are known to exist in the entire world as they were only given to winners of a Corocoro promotional drawing competition back in 1998.

As a result, this currently stands as the rarest verified Pokémon card in the world, despite only displaying a congratulatory message and having no actual value in the game.

This card also holds the world record for the highest auction price a Pokémon card has ever sold for, fetching a mighty $220,000 at an auction in October 2019.

Pokmon Topsun 1995 First Edition Charizard

The Pokémon Topsun cards are slightly different from all the cards mentioned above. Back in 1997, you were able to purchase a pack with gum that included two cards featuring Pokémon. These cards are the first-ever Pokémon cards printed.

The reason Charizard is the most valuable is due to its cracked ice pattern holo background and its rarity. PSA has seen 79 of the cards and graded only 16 as being PSA 10 condition. According to PSAcard.com, the cards are known to go for up to $10,000.

Japanese Super Secret Battle Number One Trainer

Sold in July, 2020 for $90,000

With just seven examples of this card graded by PSA, the 1999 Pokemon Super Secret Battle “No. 1 Trainer” promo card is one of the rarest Pokemon cards in existence.

Held between July and August 1999, the regional Super Secret Battle events gave school kids ranging from third graders to eleventh graders the opportunity to compete for a chance to be crowned champion.

Upon winning, the champion of each regional tournament would receive this item card as a prize.

Designed by Hideki Kazam, the card features a holographic image of Mewtwo on the left and a Pokeball on the right that make it instantly recognizable.

Across the bottom, the card reads; The Pokémon Card Game Official Tournaments champion is recognized here, and this honor is praised.;This proves that the person who possesses this card participated in the Secret Super Battle Best in Japan Deciding Match.

Pokemon Cards Aren’t Just Popular They’re Valuable

Pokemon: A History of Friendship and Controversy

It’s almost impossible to understate how wild the interest in Pokemon cards has been the past year.

If you’d like to go and buy the latest release, forget about it. Cards are such a hot commodity that sets not even released yet are already sold out.

The Pokemon Company;had to issue a statement saying the high demand and “global shipping constraints” were making it tough for fans to get a hold of cards, and it was printing more as quickly as possible.

In the US, department store Target stopped selling the cards saying it needed to protect its staff from fans desperate to snap up whatever crumbs of stock were available.

Anything even remotely related to the cards from Happy Meals to cereals with bonus cards; is met with a stampede of collectors.

And the really expensive ones? They’re breaking records, sometimes literally hours after new ones have been set.

This holographic Charizard from the first-ever set sold for $US369,000 last December.

An ultra-rare Illustrator Pikachu card sold for $US375,000 in February.

Ehren Roebuck started buying and selling Pokemon cards 10 years ago as a side hobby after falling in love with playing the game.

But the explosion in interest in the past year means he’s now considering making it his full-time job. Roebuck says the boom is kind of like the boom in cryptocurrency.

“There are so many different people into Pokemon,” Roebuck said.

“There’s high-profile lawyers, there’s dentists and accountants, boys, girls.”

Pokemon First Edition Hitmonchan

Sold in November, 2020 for $23,100

Packing tremendous punching power, the fighting-type Hitmonchan is another collector favorite who can strike with extreme quickness and precision.

Ken Sugimori delivered an excellent design for this card as Hitmonchan’s boxing gloves, shoulder pads, and five protrusions on the top of its head create an aura of a Pokemon that you don’t want to face.

Hitmonchan cards were some of the most commonly used cards in competitive play, making them tough to find in top condition.

Lugia 1st Edition Neo Genesis

  • Release Date: 2000
  • Grading: BGS Pristine 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction:;$144,300

Similar to Mewtwo, Lugia was an iconic Legendary for many children who grew up with the series in the 00s. So it should come as no surprise that its debut as a Pokemon card was a major hit.

While a 1st Edition Lugia broke records by selling for a mind-blowing $129,000 in 2020, a Beckett graded 10 version of the item sold for $144,300 at a PWCC auction in May 2021. BGS grades a lot harder than PSA, making this pristine Pokemon card one of only three in the entire world.

Most Expensive Pokemon Cards Of All Time

Initially released in Japan in the 1990s to accompany the Pokémon video games, the Pokémon Trading Card Game has transformed into one of the most popular trading card games of all-time.

Because of the red-hot popularity of the franchise, some of the most expensive Pokemon cards can sell into the six-figure range…

That may sound shocking, at first, but given that Pokémon is a worldwide phenom, there is a vast, passionate collector base around the globe just waiting to get their hands on these prized cards.

From trophy cards, to First Edition Pokemon cards, to lesser-known rarities, the value of these cards is quite impressive.

And in this guide, we take a look at the 50 most valuable of them all.

Let’s jump right in!

First Edition Base Set Shadowless Charizard Holo $7000

*THERE’S ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD!* My BGS Graded Pokemon Cards Are Back!

Pretty much any Charizard Pokémon card is worth a lot due to many different reasons.

Firstly, the detail the artists put into each of these cards is astonishing, with each card featuring multiple layers of illustration and color, which makes it stand out amongst other more common cards. As well as this, the attack power of this Pokémon is one of the highest when played with energies, making this card one of the best to use in the card game.

Finally, the print run of the first edition Charizard was low and can be identified by the first edition stamp in the bottom left corner of the illustration. If you are lucky enough to have a copy of this card missing the shadow on the right-hand side of the illustration, you could be looking at around $7,000 for a good condition card.

Given only to employees and close friends of the Wizards of the Coast company, this card is not currently verified as it was reportedly not meant for public release, due to the majority of the sheet that it was printed on becoming stained.

As of current, there are only 9 of these cards that are known to actually exist and can be differentiated from a usual Raichu card by a stamp reading PRERELEASE printed on the bottom right corner of the Raichu illustration.

Only one sale of this card has ever been reported, when a collector in 2009 purchased the card for $10,500.;

If youre looking for a hidden gem that isnt Amazon, Im sorry to disappoint! Its the go-to place for beginner collectors.

That isnt to say that once you get involved in the online Pokémon community, you wont find private sellers who have access to some wonderfully rare cards. You absolutely will.

But you can start with Amazon, especially if youre just dipping your toes in the water.

My favorite Pokémon card sellers on Amazon are:

  • Troll and Toad who at the time of writing, have over 12,000 listings! You can basically find any card you want!
  • Game Time TCG who has a huge selection of graded cards.
  • Prepare To Be Disappointed With Your Grades

    It is really difficult to get cards graded 9s or 10s. Especially on older cards. Cards need to be centered perfectly. The have to be cut perfectly. They cant have dings to the corners, or white edges, or surface scratches. There can be no roughness on the face or edges.; Look closely at the holofoil artwork for Any Scratches.; Turn the card over, and look for any whiteness around the blue edges.;;

Many older cards you might think are perfect seem to come back as 7s or 8s. 10s basically have to be protected from the get-go taken directly from a booster pack and highly protected immediately. Most people werent doing that 20 years ago. Ive sent in about 30 cards myself and maybe got two to three cards rated 10. And these were all cards that went right from boosters to binders .

You should understand that 7s and 8s and 9s are still really good scores though!; Those are Near Mint or better! Whether its comic books, coins or Pokemon Cards the higher the score, the better the selling price.

For reference here are actual average sales prices on 1st Edition Base Set Charizards on eBay March 2021

    PSA 10 $311,800 Mar 2021BGS 9 $64,000 Feb 2021PSA 8 $25,000 Mar 2021PSA 7 $15,000 Mar 2021BGS 6 $14,500 Feb 2021PSA 5 $9,000 Mar 2021PSA 2 $4,000 Mar2021

    Crystal Charizard Holo Skyridge

    • Release Date: 2003
    • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
    • Pokemon card value at auction: $25,100

In 2003, interest in Pokemon cards had started to wane among core fans who had been collecting since it launched in 1999. As a result, production of the Skyridge set was considerably lower compared to past expansions.

This would also be the last release printed by Wizards of the Coasts and features the iconic e-reader designs meant to be a tie-in for the Game Boy Advance. Its low production has made the retro set one of the most expensive Pokemon cards products to hunt down from the era.

The crown jewel of the expansion is none other than Charizard. Its rare Crystal Holo design variant was extremely limited even at release. In November 2020, a perfectly graded version of the collectible sold for $25,100 at auction.

Full Set Of First Edition Holo

    Heritage Auctions sells world

Released along with the rest of the cards in 1999, the holo-foil cards;are rare editions of the first cards. They have a certain look to the background of the card, that is what gives the card the holo-foil look.

Given the rarity of obtaining all of these cards, it is quite at the feat to get all of these cards together. But maybe you might win the lottery if youve liked the look of them as a child.

Are There Any 9 Letter Words In Scrabble

The North American Scrabble Players Association releases an official NASPA Word List for competitive play in Canada and the United States. And yes, its got lots of 9 letter words that start with the letter C too. For example, theres the CABDRIVER who CHITCHATS over the CACOPHONY of rush hour traffic.

Whether The Card Is A Promotional Item

Some Pokemon cards were not released as regular cards that you can find in Pokemon booster packs in shops. Instead, they were given away as promo cards, for example to Pokemon TCG tournament winners, or to people going to see a Pokemon movie in cinemas.

Some Pokemon promo cards are worth a lot of money, but many arent.

Often, promo cards are completely unique, which makes it easy to find their value. However, some promo Pokemon cards look the exact same to their non-promo version.

To see if you have a promo card, look for a big black star on the card next to the card number. This is why promo cards are often known as black star promos.

This Charizard card has a large black star in the corner, demonstrating that its a promo card.

    #10 Stormfront Charizard, $489.46

Prepare to see a lot of Charizard on this list. As the series’ most popular Pokémon, it appears on almost all of the cards here in some form or another.

Stormfront was released in 2008 under the Diamond & Pearl umbrella. While not one of the set’s many rare Lv.X Pokémon, Charizard was still a highly coveted Secret Rare, putting him as the most valuable card from the entire set.

    Aquapolis’ Lugia

The Pokémon Company/Wizards of the Coast

    #9 Aquapolis Lugia, $490

Aquapolis came from that weird e-Card era of the Pokémon Trading Card game, where cards could be scanned into the e-Reader peripheral for the Gameboy Advance. While the whole thing was a total failure , some of the cards from that time are still pretty valuable. Lugia is the most expensive card from Aquapolis, coming in at around $490-$500.

    FireRed & LeafGreen’s Charizard ex

    The Pokémon Company

    #8 FireRed & LeafGreen Charizard ex, $500

The return to Kanta in the GameBoy Advance era also saw the TCG follow suit, with a set entirely featuring Pokémon from the original 151. To give it that Advance generation flair, a number of Pokémon also received an ex form, a new feature that was first introduced in EX Ruby & Sapphire. Of course, the #1 card was Charizard ex.

    Pokemon First Edition Chansey

Sold in November, 2020 for $36,877

Fewer than fifty examples of the First Edition Holographic Chansey have received the elusive PSA 10 distinction, making it one of the most difficult ;First Edition Holos to find in that grade.

Chansey is a lovable pink, normal-type Pokémon that uses the egg held in its pouch to complete its signature move known as “Soft-Boiled” to help heal people and other Pokémon.

Many believe that Chansey can bring joy and happiness to those who catch it in the Pokemon world, while this card in high grade will bring lots of money to those who own it in the real world.

Pokmon Snap Best Photo Contest Cards

The series of Pokémon Snap Photo Contest Cards covered here originated from the Pokémon Snap Nintendo 64 game. Created as a promotional contest in support of the N64 video game, players were encouraged to take snapshots of the actual game. Judges evaluated the photos, and the winners that were chosen had their work printed on special cards that acknowledged them as the card’s artist. In the end, very few of these cards were ever made making landing them on our list of the rarest Pokémon cards of all time.

What’s it worth? In circulation, some of these cards have sold for over $8,000 with the Gyarados card being one of the more sought-after examples. Here, we’re celebrating one of the cards from the series featuring the lovable Pikachu.
