What Are The Chances Of Finding A Shiny Pokemon

Finding Shiny Pokemon Despite The Odds

You Find a Shiny Pokemon, You Lose

Now that we know what were dealing with in regards to the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon, what steps can we take to encounter more Shiny Pokemon?

Well if you have yourself set on a specific Pokemon, first of all youll want to check if the Shiny variant is currently available so that you dont waste your time.

Once youve confirmed whether it is available, you can move on to the next steps.

As another short note, to avoid possible confusion relating to shinies, Ill clarify a key term before we get into details.

A released shiny, unless otherwise stated should be assumed to be a permanently available one, meaning that as soon as it is released it should be a possibility to encounter it in any and all future encounters with that Pokemon.

How To Chain Pokmon Encounters To Increase Shiny Chances

Its highly recommended you use repel to eliminate random encounters while you are doing this. You should also have loads of Poké Balls on hand!

Equipped with the PokéRadar and the Chain Counter, its time to start chaining Pokémon! The PokéRadar works by showing you spots in the grass where wild Pokémon are hiding. Once you have the PokéRadar charged up by running around the area, you can start inspecting these grassy areas until you find a Pokémon you want to chain. Its easy to tell where chainable Pokémon are hiding, as the grass will shake when you have the PokéRadar charged and equipped. Once you find the mon you want to hunt, capture it, and head to another patch of shaking grass to continue your chain. As long as you are still engaged in a chain, you are guaranteed to encounter the same Pokémon in each patch of rustling grass.

Now the frustrating thing about chaining is that its not guaranteed that the chain will continue after each encounter. The chances are pretty high, but a bit of bad luck has the potential to end your chain and require you to start over. However, there are a few things you can do to increase your odds. Check out the informative video by PokéTips which shows you the best way to increase your chaining odds and get the largest chain possible. It can get pretty complicated, but the effort is well worth it!

As your chain increases, the chances of encountering a Shiny Pokémon increased dramatically. Here are the current stats:

Is There Anything Else To Know About Shinies

Not as a general rule, though as always you should keep an eye on future game events as they may have time-limited bonuses that make finding the shinies you want much easier.

Indeed, some game events have even granted players fixed shiny encounters when completed before, such as the Shiny Celebi event Secrets of the Jungle.

With that said, youve basically learned the majority of what there is to know about shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Go by now, and youre likely equipped well enough to start looking for more Shinies on your own.

Best of luck with your shiny hunting, trainers!

Basics Of Pokemon Sword And Shield Shiny Hunting

So you want to start shiny hunting in Pokemon Sword and Shield? There’s a few things you need to know before you start. Firstly, catch combos don’t exist in Galar while chaining is still a thing that we’ll get onto shortly, catch combos were first introduced with Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee. You don’t need to worry about catch combos specifically here, because shiny chains in Pokemon Sword and Shield work differently.

To begin shiny hunting, you first need to choose which Pokemon you want to hunt. Whether it’s a Wooloo or a Wailord, pick your target then go to the location that particular pocket monster spawns the most .

Essentially, you need to keep battling the Pokemon of your choice and either catch them or knock them out. The higher your tally of that specific species you’ve battled, the more likely it is to be shiny. You can check how many you’ve battled under the relevant Pokedex entry. While that’s the basic gist of things, read on to understand how it all works and how to shiny hunt more effectively.

Visit Different Areas And Spawns

A Pokémons shiny status is decided upon its spawn. Covering a lot of ground when playing Pokémon Go will allow you to check out multiple spawns in your area. Keeping your search thorough can increase the chances of you running into a shiny Pokémon.

Despite how hard you try, if you cant seem to find a shiny Pokémon, its nothing to be stressed about. Continue casually playing the game like youd normally do and an encounter should find its way to you sooner or later.

In fact, you can put your search of finding a shiny Pokémon on hold and just for an event to roll out that boosts the shiny drop rate of a certain Pokémon.

Youll always want to be prepared for a shiny Pokémon encounter, though, meaning you should carry some of your finest Pokéballs and berries to make sure the Pokémon doesnt escape. When a shiny Pokémon escapes, you wont get a second encounter and it may take a while before you find another shiny Pokémon.

Crown Tundra: Dynamax Adventures Shiny Rate

Catching shinies is even easier for players who have access to the Sword and Shield Expansion Pass. You’ll be able to visit a snowy region known as the Crown Tundra. Within the caves of a snow-topped mountain, players join together to battle against several Dynamax Pokémon one after the other until finally culminating in a battle against a Legendary Pokémon.

Okay, yeah.

Michael

I myself have caught a shiny while participating in the Dynamax Adventures with a Shiny Charm. One thing to note is that the Pokémon don’t appear shiny until the battles are completely over. So when you get to that page where you only get to choose one Pokémon to keep, you’re going to want to check all of the Pokémon you caught along the way to see if any have unique coloring.

Grand Underground Shiny Hunting Guide

Using Only Shiny Pokemon | Heart Gold

The Grand Underground is the biggest change made to BDSP over the original Diamond and Pearl, and it has countless new mechanics, some of which can affect shiny hunting. The new systems are somewhat confusing, but datamines have given us everything we need to break it down and work out how to catch shinies in the Grand Underground.

One quick point to note about the Grand Underground is that for some reason, the capture odds of Pokemon are drastically reduced, meaning they’re much harder to get in a Ball. If you’re hunting down there, plan ahead by bringing a false swiper, a paralyzer, and a lot of Poke Balls, as you don’t want to miss out on the shiny due to harder-than-usual catch rates.

Another way to counter the increased difficulty is with the Catching Charm, which works like the Shiny Charm but for catching, boosting catch rates across the board. You can obtain this charm from Morimoto in the Game Director’s house at the Hotel Grand Lake, once you’ve caught all 150 Pokemon in the Sinnoh Regional Dex.

The first part of shiny hunting in the Grand Underground comes from the “lightstone” effect, which occurs when you reach 40 Diglett in your total. You might have noticed this counter below your map as you explore, and it tracks the Diglett you’ve gotten while underground . This counter resets when you leave the Grand Underground, so keep that in mind.

Pokmon Sword And Shield: How To Catch Shiny Pokmon

For those who don’t know already, shiny Pokémon are rare, alternately colored creatures that appear in the Pokémon series. Sometimes shinies are super obvious, like the case of the sheep Pokémon Wooloo whose normal form has white fleece but has a shiny variant with black fleece. However, others are far more subtle, like how a shiny Pikachu only has a slightly different shade of yellow.

Usually, your chances of running into a shiny Pokemon are 1/4096, which makes spotting one unlikely. However, some tricks can increase your chances up to 1/100. Pokémon Sword and Shield also introduced “super shiny” Pokémon that are even rarer. Luckily, you don’t have to stick with those low chances as there are several ways to boost the likelihood of seeing a shiny. Even, for instance, purchasing the Sword and Shield Expansion Pass increases your chances quite a bit. Here’s how to catch shiny Pokémon in Sword and Shield, including those super rare square shinies.

How To Catch More Shiny Pokmon In Pokmon Go

“Ooh, shiny.”

Completing the Pokédex is the dream of every new trainer in Pokémon Go. Upon their journey, players will run into all kinds of different Pokémon, and theyll need to master the art of throwing Pokéballs to capture them.

After getting more and more playtime, youll realize that you run into some Pokémon more than the other. This is because the Pokémon in the game have a rarity tier. Common Pokémon will appear more often in your surroundings, while Pokémon from higher rarity tiers will have a lower chance of appearing.

Theres also an additional rarity tier, Shiny. This special version of the Pokémon makes them even rarer, meaning rare shiny Pokémon will be harder to come by than regular rares, and vice versa. Shiny Pokémon dont offer any competitive advantages, but they feature different colors and a sparkling texture.

The process of catching a shiny Pokémon is identical to capturing a regular one since youll only need to get into an encounter with them and throw a couple of Pokéballs to secure the deal.

Though there isnt a trick or glitch that will allow you to catch more shiny Pokémon, there are a few adjustments you can make in your playstyle, which can slightly increase your chances of catching shiny Pokémon.

Whats The Best Way To Breed Shiny Pokemon

Shiny Baltoy Pokemon Go

The key to breeding a Shiny Pokémon is to breed Pokémon from two different regions. For example, if you live in the USA, obtain a Pokémon from Japan or Europe. Make sure to obtain the Pokémon that you want to get a Shiny version of. The easiest way to get a Pokémon from another region is to trade with someone.

Shiny Pokmon In Sword And Shield: A Few Things To Know

  • Unlike Let’s Go, Pikachu!, and Let’s Go, Eevee!, you can’t tell if a Pokémon is shiny when you’re walking around. You must engage it in a battle to tell if it’s shiny.
  • Unlike previous games, you cannot get a shiny starter. Don’t try to soft-restart your game it will just be a waste of time.
  • You don’t have to worry about coming across a shiny Pokémon that’s too high-leveled for you to catch in the Wild Area. The coding doesn’t allow this to happen.
  • When you come upon a shiny, sparkles and light emit around the Pokémon. You’re going to want to pay attention to this if you’re shiny hunting a Pokémon that doesn’t look a whole lot different from its original coloring.+
  • When playing the Dynamax Adventures found within the Crown Tundra section of the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass, you won’t be able to tell if the Pokémon you caught were shiny until choosing which Pokémon to keep at the very end.

With that knowledge under your belt, let’s dive even further into shiny Pokémon.

The Basics Of Shiny Hunting In Bdsp

Before getting into the methods, it’s important to get a few key facts out of the way. For one, the base shiny odds in BDSP are the same as they’ve been in all games since Gen Six – 1 in 4096. These are your odds of running into a shiny in a random wild encounter, or having a legendary or starter be shiny on any given reset. Many people do hunt like this – just doing wild encounters repeatedly, or soft-resetting for legendaries – so the average time for a shiny, if you want to hunt this way, will be roughly the same as in Sword and Shield.

Soft-resetting in BDSP also works like in Sword and Shield. There’s no dedicated button, so you just have to save before the legendary, starter choice, or whatever else, then close out of the game and relaunch it to soft reset. For those out of the loop, the shininess of a static encounter is determined when the encounter starts, so by saving right before it, doing the encounter, and resetting to before the encounter if it’s not shiny, you can essentially keep re-rolling the encounter until it shines.

This is relevant to BDSP in the Grand Underground, as it means you cannot soft-reset on an overworld Pokemon down there. You can still hunt Pokemon in the Grand Underground, you’ll just have to do it by encountering the Pokemon you want and then leaving and re-entering the room to reset spawns, since soft-resetting will just cause you to encounter the same exact Pokemon over and over again.

What Are Square Shinies In Pokemon Sword And Shield

SHINY ODDS CONFIRMED (How to SHINY HUNT in Pokemon Sword and Shield)

so apparently my Elephant is a rare square shiny or smth #PokemonSwordShield #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/5uvgdb8u9y

You may have heard whispers of the elusive square shinies in Pokemon Sword and Shield, so let us shed some light on the situation. In an effort to add even more longevity to Galar by Game Freak, you can now find two types of shiny Pokemon standard and square. Standard shinies are the shiny Pokemon everyone knows and loves from previous games, while square shinies are brand new.

On paper, for every shiny encounter in the game, it has a 1/16 chance of being a square shiny instead of the standard. You’ll be able to tell whether it’s standard or square by the intro animation the usual stars will be replaced by square outlines, but the difference in colour palette is still the same. Don’t worry, square shinies aren’t a different shade!

It’s not quite as simple as that however. If you follow the chaining method explained above by catching or defeating 25 of the same Pokemon in a row, those 1/16 odds will be flipped. Instead, you’ll have 15/16 odds of finding a square shiny, and just 1/16 of the shiny being standard.

Sword And Shield: Shiny Pokmon Vs Super Shiny Pokmon

Two different types of shiny Pokémon appear in Sword and Shield. One of them is much rarer than the other and has been dubbed “super shiny” by the internet. Regular shiny Pokémon pop out with stars glittering around them, whereas super shiny Pokémon appear with squares, as seen in the picture above.

Shiny Pokémon rarity has been split! Same 1:4096 odds to obtain a shiny, but there are two types of shiny. 15/16 show stars, 1/16 show squares. Square rarity is 1 in 65536!Basically, if your Trainer ID cleanly matches the PID , it will be squares rather than stars.

Kurt

Data miners have dived into Sword and Shield’s coding to determine what the shiny odds are. According to respected data miner Kurt, the odds of catching shinies are still 1/4096. However, 15/16 shiny Pokémon will show stars, whereas only 1/16 shiny Pokémon will show squares. That makes super shinies super rare to come across with only a chance of 1/65536!

Can You Tell A Pokmon Is Shiny With Pok Radar

Shiny hidden ability grass patches exist! fromPokeLeaks

Yes! The Pokémon Radar, or Poké Radar, is a tool you acquire in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl after defeating the Eilte Four and the Champion. It helps you locate Pokémon in the grass by making the grass move to show you where they are. It not only helps you find rare Pokémon but is also sometimes the only way to catch a specific Pokémon in the game. While using it, you might see sparkling or glowing in the grass, which lets you know that the Pokémon you’re approaching is a shiny. Note that the Poké Radar needs to “recharge” after each use and requires that you take 50 steps before using it again.
