How To Interact And Play With Your Buddy

Now that youve selected a Buddy, youre able to interact with them in a variety of ways. The first thing youll want to do is feed them once theyre full, they can join you on the Map. To feed your Buddy, follow these easy steps:

Step 1: Click your Buddys portrait at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Click the Berry icon at the top of the screen

Step 3: Select an open location in your surroundings to make an AR version of your Buddy appear. If youre a bit cramped for space, you can click the Quick Treat button to forgo your phones AR abilities.

Step 4: Finally, select a treat for your Buddy and throw it toward its mouth the same way youd throw a Poké Ball at a wild Pokémon. You can monitor its hunger level at the top of the screen, and once its full, it will join you on the Map.

Step 5: Trainers can also play with their Buddy by selecting the Play button after clicking on the Pokémons portrait. Once youve found some space in your surroundings to release your AR Buddy, simply rub the screen to play with them. Youll know it worked properly if you get a reaction from the Pokémon the Play Together option should also display a red heart back on the Buddy menu.

Since Pokemon GO first went live, you’ve always been able to pick a Pokemon from your crew as your Buddy, who’d hang out with you in the world like Ash’s Pikachu from the television show. As an incentive to do so, as if you need one besides having a monster pal, you receive candy for walking certain distances with a Buddy at your side.

Back in December of 2019, Niantic Labs released a new feature called Buddy Adventure that expanded the Buddy system. Now you can engage in various additional activities with your Buddy Pokemon, like being able to Play with them.

To do so, you’ll need to reach at least Trainer Level 2 and assign one of your Pokemon as your Buddy. Next, pull up your world map and tap on the picture of your Buddy in the lower left-hand corner. This pulls up a close-range view of them, along with a big button marked “PLAY!”

This activates your device’s camera. Find a flat surface nearby and point towards it until you see yellow footprints appear. Tap again to place your Pokemon in the world.

How To Play With Your Buddy:

Once you’ve selected a buddy and its profile icon appears in the bottom left corner of your screen, all you have to do to play with it is select your buddy’s profile. On your buddy’s profile, it’ll show different affection levels for things you can do with it, like walking, playing, or giving it treats.

To play with your buddy, select the “Play” option, and the AR feature with show your selected Pokémon in the real world around you. If you have the AR option deselected, your Pokémon will instead appear in a standard, grassy land.

All you have to do to play with your buddy is to pet it by stroking it on the screen. Do not tap or poke at your buddy, but instead rub it gently. You’ll know you’re doing this right if you see sparkles appear. While you’re in this mode, you can also give your buddy treats.

Doing this will complete the “Play with your buddy” task in the throwback challenge, but you should play with your buddy regularly anyway to increase its affection levels.

Don’t forget, for the throwback challenge, you’ll have to also feed your buddy three rare treats and take a snapshot all of which can be done while you have the “Play” tab open for this task.

How To Get Hearts And Increase Your Buddy Level In Pokmon Go

There are a variety of daily interactions you can perform with your Buddy, each giving you hearts. Hearts can help you unlock the ‘excited’ mood for that day, as well as help you level up their Buddy level.

You can earn up to 10 Hearts per day by performing the following activities:

Note, your Buddy must be in Adventure mode for them to count. So for example, if you jump into AR mode and play with them before feeding them up so they appear on the map, you won’t get a Heart for that action.

How Much Candy Do You Get For Walking A Buddy Pokmon

Buddy candy is based on distance. Some Pokémon require you to walk 1 KM, others 3 KM or 5 KM to earn a candy. The distances are roughly but not exactly related to the distance of the Pokémon Eggs they hatch from 2 KM hatches tend to get a candy every 1 KM, 5 KM hatches every 3 KM, and 10 KM hatches every 10 KM, though there are some exceptions.

Heres how walking a Buddy Pokémon compares to other methods for getting Candy in Pokémon Go:

• 1 Candy per Buddy distance walked.
• 1 Candy per Pokémon transferred to the Professor.
• 3 Candies per base-level Pokémon caught in the wild.
• 6 Candies per base-level Pokémon caught in the wild while using a Pinap Berry.
• 5 Candies per second-level Pokémon caught in the wild.
• 10 Candies per second-level Pokémon caught in the wild while using a Pinap Berry.
• 10 Candies per third-level Pokémon caught in the wild.
• 20 Candies per third-level Pokémon caught in the wild while using a Pinap Berry.
• 5 to 15 Candies per 2 KM Egg hatched.

• 16 to 32 Candies per 10 KM Egg hatched.

Again, walking a Buddy Pokémon isnt a fast way to get a lot of Candy but its a consistent way to get a steady stream of Candy.

How Many Hearts Does My Buddy Have

In order to get more Hearts, your Buddy needs to be at zero and eat three berries to count as one Heart. You need 12 Berries per day to get all 4 Hearts. Play together gives x2 for tapping your buddy in AR mode and pet them with your finger for a few seconds until you see them spin and jump with delight.

Earning Candy With Your Buddy

Making a Pokemon your buddy means that you earn candy for that particular Pokemon type every time you walk a certain distance. For example, if you were walking with Grotle, youd be earning Turtwig candy. The rarer a Pokemon is, the longer you need to walk to earn one candy.

• 1 kilometre = 1 candy
• 20 kilometres = 1 candy

There are two small exceptions to these rules:

• If the player is level 40 or higher, theres a chance that their buddy will find a candy XL instead of the regular kind
• Buddy Pokemon can be excitedand when they are, their usual distance requirement is halved

The first and foremost reason to have a buddy Pokemon is to earn candy! Candy is used to evolve and power up your Pokemon it can be earned in a number of ways, from simply catching Pokemon to trading them with your friends. However, walking with them is a method that you have complete control over!

In Pokemon Go, you may sometimes come across Research tasks that ask you to play with your Buddy Pokemon. For instance, one of the Johto tasks in the Throwback Challenge event ask you to play with your Buddy.

But how do you actually play with your Buddy? Thankfully, its a really simple process, and were here to show you how it works!

When you want to play with your Buddy Pokemon, youll need to interact with it through the games AR camera view. To do this, first tap on your Buddys picture when viewing the world map.

Then tap the large Play! button.

Follow the directions to find a suitable location where you can place the Pokemon in front of you on the screen. From there, as Eurogamer reported, all you have to do is rub your finger back and forth on your Pokemon to cause them to react. This should count as playing with your Buddy. If you have an active task that wants to you play with your Buddy, you’ll see a notifcation appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen when you’ve successfully “played” with them.

Keep in mind that swiping on your Pokemon may also cause them to react and move, but this doesnt count as actually playing with them.

Leveling Up Your Buddy

Your friendship with a Buddy Pokémon can level up four times, starting with Good Buddy and ending with Best Buddy. Each friendship level requires collecting a set amount of Affection Hearts, which are earned by interacting with your Buddy and playing the game with that Pokémon assigned as your Buddy.

There are four different Buddy Levels:

You can earn up to 10 Hearts a day to increase your friendship level. If your Buddys mood is Excited you can earn up to 20 Affection Hearts. You can reach the Best Buddy status in 30 days if you complete your daily tasks every day.

You can collect Affection Hearts by doing the following activities:

After acquiring the first set of 10 hearts, you can unlock the second set by reaching certain thresholds with each Activity category. These thresholds are still being researched, but it seems that theyre 200 snapshots, 20 new places to visit and a combination of other ones.

You can forcibly unlock additional 10 Hearts with use of Poffin without having completed any hearts .
