HOW TO TRADE IN POKÉMON GO! (Trading Update)
Bob McFadden

The most visible leveling mechanic in Pokémon GO is the Trainer Level. Trainer Level has a little progress bar in the bottom-left corner of the screen which increases with every action you take in the game. However, hidden under the hood in Pokémon GO, each Pokémon has its own separate Level as well. Find out more about this invisible level and learn how to increase it.

What Has Pokmon Go Said About Trading Pokmon

From Pokémon Go:

If you’re near a friend and have a Trainer Level of 10 or higher, you can trade Pokémon you’ve caught with that friend. Completing a trade earns a bonus Candy for the Pokémon you’ve traded away, and that bonus can increase if the Pokémon you traded were caught in locations far apart from each other! All trades are powered by Stardust, and some trades require more Stardust than others. As you build your Friendship Level with the friend you are trading with, you’ll find that you can complete the trade with much less Stardust.

Certain Pokémon, such as a Legendary Pokémon, a Shiny Pokémon, or a Pokémon not currently in your Pokédex, require a Special Trade to complete, so keep that in mind before trading away that golden Magikarp! Special Trades can only occur once per day with a Great Friend or Best Friend, and it often requires a lot of Stardust to complete a Special Trade. Special Trades are a great way to show a friend how much you care!

How To Power Up A Pokmon

In addition to evolving Pokémon, you can choose to Power Up, a system that increases their CP in small bursts. Powering up your Pokémon is one of the more complex aspects of the game.

On the surface, it seems simple: Players give their;Pokémon Stardust, a currency you earn by catching Pokémon and by winning gym battles and raids, and candies to increase their numbers. Like evolving, powering up increases the HP and CP of your Pokémon, but at a slower rate.;The more you;increase a Pokémons CP, the more Stardust you will need to upgrade it.

In general, Pokémon with higher CP will beat Pokémon with lower CP in battle, but that isnt;always;the case, thanks to its underlying stats.;Instead of a;number, players get to;see the Pokémons CP potential, which shows its level on a sliding scale relative to your trainer level.

You can upgrade your Pokémon up to 150% of your current trainer level, so the CP cap a particular Pokémon can reach is measured by a white arc when you select it on the;Pokémon menu. As you power up the;Pokémon, that arc will fill toward the right side, and when its completely full, you wont be able to power up that;Pokémon any more until you increase your own overall Trainer level through experience points. Each time you power up a Pokémon, you increase its level by one half.

Ugh Does Friendship Level Affect Any Other Part Of A Pokmon Trade

It does. Certain Pokémon can only be traded at higher friendship level.

The higher your level of friendship with someone, the less it costs to actually participate in the trade. Every trade requires spending a certain amount of stardust, which you only have so much of so its good to work on befriending folks, because youll want to save up that stardust for the real prizes.

The good news is that the most basic, standard trade only requires spending 100 stardust, which is super doable.

Pokémon Go: Everything you need to know about stardust

These are the stardust discounts you get based on your friendship level:

  • Good Friend: 0 percent discount
  • Great Friend: 20 percent discount
  • Ultra Friend: 92 percent discount
  • Best Friend: 96 percent discount

A Redditor named AshmediaiHel came up with a handy graphic that boils down specific costs and bonuses for each kind of trade. Check that out below.

How Trade Evolution Works In Pokmon Go

Pokemon Go trading and friend system coming summer 2018 ...

Pokemon GO

Trade evolution! You love to see it. This feature has been part of the mainline Pokémon games for years, but its only now just coming to Pokémon GO. Basically, youve got to remember that the original purpose of the Pokémon games was to find a good use case for the Game Boy link cable, and to that end the franchise has always encouraged trading in any way it can. Thats why certain Pokémon only evolve when theyre traded between two trainers, ensuring that catching them all requires either two people or one person with two Game Boys. But that was then and this is now, so lets talk about Trade evolution in Pokémon GO.

Trading does not seem to be required for evolving any Pokémon in these games, as per the Pokémon Blog. So if you want to do it the traditional way, by saving up 100 candies, you can still do that. What trade evolution does, instead, is negate the candy cost for evolving a certain Pokémon if you receive that Pokémon in a trade. So if you receive a Machoke in a trade, you can evolve it to a Machamp for free.

Here are the Pokemon that currently benefit from trade evolution:

  • Kadabra
  • Karrablast
  • Shelmet

Luckily, the old methods still work, so the anti-social can still benefit. And the tradeable Pokémon only require 25 candies to get to where they need to be, so random people at raids might still be willing to help you out.

Ivs Change When You Trade

Almost certainly to discourage cheaters, Pokémon traded in Go get a change to their IVs and stats. This prevents players from “selling” 100% IV Pokémon, while the limits on Trading prevent players from constantly “rerolling” for better IVs.

However, the higher your Friendship level, the higher potential IV you can get from a Trade. This, along with the reduced Stardust cost encourages Trading between actual friends.

Pokemon Go Increased Trading Distance: Everything You Need To Know

Players can temporarily trade Pokemon across longer distances.

Trainers, Niantic, the developer of Pokemon Go, has debuted a limited time test in the free-to-play mobile game;that’s allowing players to trade Pokemon across;longer distances.

Typically, two players need to be within 100 meters of each other in order to trade Pokemon. However, during this test, they can be farther apart.

But just how far apart can they be? In Niantics English news post, the developer didnt specify. However, players on The Silph Road subreddit discovered that Niantic did reveal the distance in its Korean news post: 12 km. This means that during this test, players can be up to 12 km apart and still be able to trade Pokemon.

Interestingly, Niantic removed the 12 km number from the Korean news post at some point after it was published, but The Silph Road subreddit user Agricultrual_Zemlya archived the original post on the Internet Archive if youd like to see it.

This test will run from now until November 16 at 10 a.m. PT. That doesnt give players much time to trade, but we may see the return of an increased trading range in the future.

In its English news post, Niantic said:

Depending on information gathered from this test, we may include increased trade range as a part of future events.

How Does Pokemon Go Trading Work

As long as you’ve been friends with someone for a day, and have exchanged one gift, you can trade Pokemon with them. Every trade you do will cost you Stardust, although the exact cost depends on a number of factors – but more on that in a minute.;

When you know what you want to trade and who you want to trade with, make sure you’re physically next to each other . Then head to the Friends tab within Pokemon Go, and select the player you want to trade with. Hit the trade button in the right-hand corner, and get your friend to do the same. When you’ve connected, pull up the Pokemon you want to trade and you’ll be informed of the trade cost in Stardust, but also the CP range the Pokemon will hit when it is traded. When the trade is over, the Pokemon’s CP level will sit somewhere within this range. The range is affected by your Trainer Level, the level of the receiving trainer and also your friendship level.;

You also get candies for every trade, which is a great added bonus. How many you’ll receive depends on where the Pokemon was caught too. The further away you are from its source, the more candies you’ll receive. According to Reddit, you get one candy for distances below 30km, two candies from between 30 – 100km, and three candies for anything above 100km.;

Not all Pokemon are regarded the same in Pokemon Go trading though, as there are two types of trades you can do with a friend: Standard Pokemon Go trades, and Special Pokemon Go trades.;

What Pokmon Benefit From Trade Evolution

Trading Pokémon in Pokémon Go guide: How it works and more ...

There are currently eight species of Pokémon who benefit from Trade Evolution. Four are from Gen I, while the other four are new Pokémon from Gen V.

  • Kadabra
  • Karrablast
  • Shelmet

While Trading is necessary to Evolve some other species of Pokémon in the core games, such as Dusclops, most require holding an Item while being Traded. There are only two more Pokémon who Evolve by the mere act of being Traded , and they’re both from Gen VI, which hasn’t been introduced to Pokémon Go yet, so it is unlikely that more Pokémon will be added to this list before Gen VI is introduced.

How To Trade In Pokmon Go And Trading Requirements

Before you can start trading, you need to fulfill the following requirements:

  • Be Pokémon Go Friends with the person you are trading with
  • Have a Trainer Level of 10 or above
  • Be within close physical proximity

From there, go to your Friends feed, and select the Friend you want to Trade with. The option to Trade will be next to ‘Send Gift’, below the XP bar.

Provided you are within 100m, you can then select a Pokémon to trade, check the Pokémon you’ll receive and the Stardust cost before confirming. Then, you trade, with the process taking just a few seconds.

The following also needs to be taken into consideration when it comes to trading:

  • Trades will give each player additional Candy, with more Candy rewarded if the two Pokémon were caught far away from another. According to Reddit, this is 1 Candy for below 30km, 2 Candy for 30-100km, 3 Candy for above 100km.
  • The HP and CP of each Pokémon will vary once the Trade is completed – it could be higher or lower. The better the Friendship Level, the less variation will be. You’ll be able to see this before the trade, and there will be safeguards in place to stop powerful Pokémon going to players with a much lower Trainer level.

When To Grind Your Xp

Lucky Eggs double the amount of experience you earn, and the effect lasts 30 minutes from when you use the Lucky Egg. This means youre earning 1000 XP for every Pidgey, Caterpie, and Weedle you evolve. You want to make sure youre taking full advantage of each Lucky Egg because there are two ways to get them, and only one of those ways is free.

Pokemon Go/Dennis Scimeca

You sometimes earn a Lucky Egg when you level up, and at lower levels, one Lucky Egg, combined with a healthy run of Pokémon evolutions, may earn you enough XP to level your trainer againand thus, potentially earn another Lucky Egg.

The higher your level, however, the more XP you need to earn to reach the next level, and the amount of XP required to level up later in the game is substantial. It takes 150,000 XP to advance from level 24 to level 25, for instance.;

A very efficient player might earn 66,000 XP during a power-evolution run, so you would need three Lucky Eggs to earn the XP you need to level from 24 to 25 if you did all the evolutions back to back.

Now consider how much money youll be spending when youre leveling from 29 to 30, if you want to level up the fast way. Youll want to be efficient with your Lucky Eggs. And theres a tool that will help you do precisely that.

PidgeyCalc/Dennis Scimeca

PidgeyCalc will calculate how long it will take you to finish a batch of evolutions and, under the assumption that you are using a Lucky Egg, how much experience you will earn from those evolutions.

Take Advantage Of Berries

You can use Berries on Pokémon to make them easier to catch. Razz Berries are your go-to berry, as theyll increase the probability of a successful catch, but depending on your situation, you might want to use others. Golden Razz Berries greatly increase your chances of a successful catch. Nanab Berries will calm down feisty Pokémon, so youll have an easier chance of making a successful throw. Pinap Berries increase the number of candies you get for your catch, so theyre good if youre working on a particular evolution. Berries are a random drop from Pokéstops, a reward for increasing your trainer level and for completing field research, and can come from gifts received from people on your friends list. Use them by tapping on the;Backpack;icon when attempting to catch a Pokémon.
