What Is Mega Evolution In Pokemon

How ‘a Mega Discovery’ Works In Pokmon Go

What Mega Evolutions are in Pokemon Masters?

Research Quests, which allow you to complete objectives for rewards, were introduced into Pokémon Go in March 2018.

There are three types of Research Quests – Field Research, Timed Research and Special Research. Unlike Field Research tasks, which offer a selection of tasks that can be completed whenever the player chooses, Special Research tasks are the same for every player and have a set, story driver, order.

A Mega Discovery is a Special Research questline designed to teach players how to use Mega Evolution, which was introduced into Pokémon Go in August 2020.

The quest itself consists of four steps, which each contain three individual challenges. You’ll be rewarded for every individual challenge and overall step you complete. By the end of the Special Research, you’ll be able to Mega Evolve Beedrill with ease.

There’s no restriction to when you can complete A Mega Discovery, so feel free to begin your exploration into Mega Evolution whenever you please.

The Season of Mischief is here!Current events, include Season 9 of the Go Battle League, the addition of Raid Achievements and the Misunderstood Mischief research quest. Shiny Ditto can also now be found in the wild and this tricky Pokémon is now appearing as new creatures!Meanwhile, the last major update saw a level cap increase – including the addition of XL Candy, boosts to some XP sources and the addition of Platinum Medals.

How Do You Mega Evolve Pokemon In Go

As previously mentioned, Mega Evolution works a bit differently in Pokemon Go than in the mainline Pokemon games. Rather than a Mega Stone, you’ll need to gather a new resource called Mega Energy to Mega Evolve your Pokemon. You’ll receive Mega Energy by participating in Mega Raid Battles, which feature a Mega-Evolved Pokemon as the Raid boss. The faster your team is able to defeat the Mega Raid, the more Mega Energy you’ll receive as a reward.

Once you’ve amassed enough Mega Energy, you’ll be able to Mega Evolve the corresponding Pokemon. Unlike in the mainline games, Pokemon will remain Mega Evolved in Pokemon Go for a limited time, even outside of battle. As such, you’ll be able to see your Mega-Evolved Pokemon following you around on the map if you set it as a Buddy. You’ll also be able to take Snapshots with it and use it in battle against Team Go Rocket, other players, and Raid bosses.

After you Mega Evolve a Pokemon for the first time, its Mega Energy requirement will decrease, letting you Mega Evolve it again in the future much more quickly. It will also be logged in your Mega Pokedex, so you can easily keep track of which Pokemon you’ve Mega Evolved.

The Rules Of Mega Evolution

When mega evolving Pokémon, remember that:

  • You can only have 1 mega evolved Pokémon at a time. If you have a mega evolution already and you mega evolve another Pokémon, your first mega evolution will devolve and youll need to collect mega energy to mega evolve it again
  • You cannot mega evolve shadow or clone Pokémon
  • You can mega evolve purified Pokémon, but they wont have a swirly white aura when mega evolved
  • You cannot use a mega evolved Pokémon to defend a gym
  • Mega Pokémon cant be used in the GO Battle League

Best: Mega Mawile The One With The Huge Freaking Teeth

Mega Mawile, Id say, is one example of Mega Evolution done right. It took a Pokémon that was totally obscure and worthless, and basically tossed it a lifeline. When the concept was first revealed, this was exactly what I was hoping for from Megas.

On the other hand, I guess Mawile wasnt thrown a lifeline so much as thrown a huge and deadly cache of weapons, like the one Arnold Schwarzenegger hops off his dinghy with on arriving on the island in Commando.

This thing is quite the beast. Its base forms Intimidate is always useful, and the Megas Sheer Force ability doubles its attack stat for pure carnage. It has such a great typing in Steel/Fairy, too, and the raw strength to put it to great use.

How Do You Get More Mega Energy

Pokemon Mega Evolutions Wallpaper

Mega Energy is crucial for Pokémon to be able to Mega Evolve and you can quickly run out of it. The best way to gather more Mega Energy is to go out and look for Mega Raids which will net you Mega Energy for the Pokémon thats featured in that certain raid. Youll have to do this multiple times, so make sure to seize every opportunity.

Worst: Mega Charizard Y

And going from the best to the worst, the second of Charizard’s Megas not only pales in comparison to the X version but it stands as one of the simplest and most unimpressive of all. Mega Charizard Y is basically just Charizard but with torn wings, a larger spike atop its head, and a pair of wyvern-like arms.

Worst of all, Mega Charizard Y remains Fire/Flying, meaning it doesn’t even give Charizard the Dragon-type it so desperately wants. The point of Mega Evolution is to push a Pokémon far past its limit, thus helping it evolve even further. And while Mega Charizard is certainly more powerful, it doesn’t look very evolved.

Siebold’s Mega Blastoise Picked Up An Impressive Victory Over Alain’s Mega Charizard

Disregarding the concept of type mismatches, advantages and disadvantages, any Pokémon that picks up a victory over Alain’s infamous and seemingly unbeatable Mega Charizard has to be taken seriously and acknowledged. This honor falls to Siebold and his Mega Blastoise.

Showing why he is a member of the Kalos Elite Four, Siebold showcased his and his Mega Blastoise’s power, with it delivering a devastating final blow to Mega Charizard in the form of a Dragon Pulse, rather than a super-effective Water-type move. Blastoise arguably doesn’t get enough of a showing in the anime as a whole, but Siebold’s Blastoise certainly helped the Pokémon’s image.

Best: Mega Diancie The Fairy Princess That Will End You

Diancie, you might remember, was the first event Pokémon to be released in the X and Y era. At first sight, it really didnt look like much at all, just a more feminine Carbink. This, needless to say, is hardly something that the world had been crying out for.

Nevertheless, it proved quite useful. It has some nice supportive utility in its base form, and is a great sweeper in standard play on Mega Evolving.

Mega Diancie is hugely powerful, and boasts a truly unique STAB combination of Rock and Fairy. From its appearance, you might think it spends its days waiting for Mario to come and rescue it from Bowser, but dont be fooled. This fairy princess could whup your butt, my butt, your mamas butt, its own butt Mega Diancie just does not care.

Pokemon Go Mega Evolution

Currently, there are four new Mega Evolution Pokemon being added to Pokemon Go. These focus on classic Kanto Pokemon, with three of the four being starters:

  • Mega Venusaur
  • Mega Charizard X
  • Mega Beedrill

The first three starters will be available from Mega Raids, while Mega Beedrill comes from a new Special Research assignment.

Beedrill is the Pokemon were using to help introduce the feature through Professor Willow, Laura Warner, senior game designer at Niantic, told VG247.

Theres going to be a Research thatll help players understand a few of the steps for Megas, and along that path youll get enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve Beedrill a few times.

While there are 48 Mega Pokemon in total if you count the X and Y versions, Niantic is focussing on these four initially to avoid flooding the world map with a deluge of new raids. However, more Mega Evolutions are set to be released periodically.

We dont think its a good experience if theres like 10 different Raids that you want to do all at once weve seen that in the past with Legendaries, Matthew Slemon, senior product manager at Niantic, said.

There are a ton of amazing Mega Pokemon, Warner added. We just really wanted to make sure that each one of the Megas gets their time to shine and trainers have time to battle them, earn the Mega Energy, Mega Evolve them and spend some time with them.

So we figured the best way to do that was start with a smaller batch and continue rotating in different Mega Pokemon.

Mega Evolution Timer And Mega Energy

The Mega Evolution will be a temporary transformation of the Pokemons, and a field called Mega Time found in the mined data confirms the same. A time limit will be imposed upon Mega evolution, and will be displayed for the players to see.

Also, each Pokemon will have their own Mega Energy, and it is expected to be synced with the Mega Evolution timer. Once the Mega Energy is exhausted, the Pokemons will return to their normal form. The amount of Mega Energy required will reduce if you are best buddies with your Pokemon. You will also get Mega Energy from Mega Raids, and once you reach the maximum amount of Mega Energy you can collect, the rewards you receive will be reduced.

Pokémon: 15 Most Powerful Mega Evolutions... So Far

When Mega Evolution was introduced in Pokemon GO, only five Mega Pokemon were added: Mega Beedrill, Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard X and Y. Since then, more Mega Pokemon have been introduced usually during special events.

As for Mega Energy, each Mega Evolution has two costs. The initial Mega Energy cost is the amount needed to Mega Evolve a species for the first time. This is the highest cost. Every subsequent Mega Evolution of that species after is significantly reduced.

There are a lot of Mega Pokemon that have yet to be introduced in Pokemon GO, but heres every evolution introduced so far with the initial Mega Energy cost and the cost to Mega Evolve after the first time.

I understand that official artwork take priority before anything else, but why does Rayquaza’s page have an image but not this one? It really doesn’t make sense to me. Of course, in the event we decide to use said image for both articles, we can remove it once official artwork comes out for Mega Rayquaza. Pokmon: 8 Strongest And 8 Weakest Mega Evolutions

With the introduction of these new Pokémon, find out which are worth using and which are worth completely avoiding

Following the release of Pokémon X & Y, the Pokémon franchise introduced a brand-new feature that revolutionized Pokémon battles. Although the popularity of Mega Evolution has diminished since the introduction of Z-Moves in Pokémon Sun & Moon, it still remains an important aspect of the series.

Thanks to Mega Evolution, several already powerful Pokémon received a well needed boost to their stats and even underwent type changes to give them a much-needed edge in battle.

Sadly, not all Pokémon benefit from these advantages. In fact, some fans argue that certain Mega Evolutions are not beneficial and only serve to waste their one opportunity for Mega Evolution during each battle.

In some cases, the abilities, and stat increases that a Mega Evolution provides, can easily be replaced with the right items such as a Life Orb or a Choice Band. Other times, Mega Evolution fails to provide a new ability worthy or beneficial of a Pokémons new form, which ends up wasting their potential.

However, by no means does a weak Mega Evolution classify a Pokémon as broken. Rather, the weakness of one Mega Evolution can refer to a terrible ability or the flaw that a Mega Evolution causes in a Pokémon.

Here is a list featuring some of the Weakest and Strongest Pokémon Mega Evolutions!

Worst: Mega Abomasnow The Hopeless Yeti

Much as I love Abomasnow, the poor guys had a super unfortunate lot in life since the off. Being a Grass/Ice type, it has just about the most weaknesses in the entire game . Abomasnow is as slow as a comatose one-legged kitten, and is weak to just about every damn thing. Thats a terrible combination.

To make matters worse, the auto-weather it sets, Hail, is horribly outclassed by the others. As a result of all of this, you very rarely see Abomasnow or its Mega Evolution. Its a shame, as it can be deadly on a Trick Room team, and it also completely shuts down most bulky Water types . At best, its incredibly niche.

Vague Comments On Whether Mega Evolutions Are Coming Back

When pressed about the return of Mega Evolutions, Masuda said this.

Each time we make a new game, we think of particular theme and of particular elements that would work well with that game. This time we have our Z-moves if a game comes up in future that we think would work really well with, certainly we’ll look into it But for the minute we don’t have any particular plans.

So “no,” not for the time being. I’m not sure I mind all that much though since I rarely used Pokémon with the ability to achieve Mega Evolution. Z-moves sound like a lot more fun, and I think I’ll be utilizing them more in battle.

Pokémon Sun and Moon will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on Nov. 18.

Best: Mega Gallade The Closet Yu

I guess its worth addressing this first. Yep, on first seeing Mega Gallade revealed, I thought exactly the same as the rest of you. Thats totally a Duel Disk on your arm there, guy. Im no anime nut, but Im damned if I dont image this guy speaking in Kaibas gravellier-than-a-bag-of-gravel English voice.

With that out of the way, I cant help but feel that Mega Gallade has been a little underappreciated. Its kind of in competition with Mega Lucario, I guess you could say, as they both really have the same main objective: Close Combat everything right in the dome.

In achieving this goal, Id say that Lucario comes out on top. It has access to priority, giving it an easier time finishing things off, and Steels generally more useful as a secondary type than Psychic is. Dont count Gallade out, though, as its nothing to screw with.

I Would Like To Know Something

Before I put something like this in the trivia: “Before the introduction of Lopunny‘s Mega Evolution in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Meloetta in its’ Pirouette Forme was the only Pokémon with a unique type combination of Normal/Fighting.”, does anyone who’s reading this it’s wise to do so? Oh, and Merry Christmas, Bulbapedia! IM-T-MAN2 03:55, 26 December 2014

No. “Used to be” trivias aren’t really notable.–ForceFire 04:05, 26 December 2014
^I’d replace “really” with “generally” in the above, as there are always exceptions. But in this case, something this narrow/complex would be a bit out-of-place on an article that talks about all of Mega Evolution in general. In addition, it’s not exactly unique as there are at least three other Pokémon that had unique type combinations in Gen V but lost them in Gen VI, being Reshiram , Zekrom , and Numel/Camerupt . Thanks for asking! Blueapple128 04:12, 26 December 2014
