A Good Handful Of Them Ended Up Being Better Off As Fairy
The sixth generation of Pokémon was the first to introduce “Fairy-Type” to mix things up and balance out some type matchups too. Twenty-two Pokémon ended up adding or completely changing their typing to fairy, twelve of which used to be Normal-Type.
With this new typing, the Normal-Types that became Fairy-Types got access to even more moves and a huge advantage against Dark-Types, Dragon-Types, and their old Fighting-Type foes. Granted, this also added a few weaknesses, but simply put, these Pokémon ended up being better off with their new typing compared to the old one.
Dont Bother: Its Super Effective
Weve already touched on the fact that Normal Pokémon and Normal moves interact with the rest of the type chart in a strange way. Most uniquely, its the only typing in the game that isnt super effective on anything.
With Normal moves, then, your goal should be to go all out and try to finish off the opponent with a powerful neutral STAB. Youre not going to be exploiting any weaknesses here.

They’re Really Weak To Fighting
For the most part, Normal-Type Pokémon are without a type weakness, taking neutral damage to almost all other types. However, Normal-Type has one big type disadvantage against Fighting-Types. Fighting-Types are one of the two Pokémon types that actually have the most amount of advantages, and it seems that Normal-Types fall into that category.
To make matters worse for Normal-Type, Fighting-Type Pokémon are usually known for having high stats when it comes to offense, meaning that without specific special abilities or moves like “Protect,” one super-effective hit could lead to an instant KO. The chances of a Normal-Type beating a Fighting-Type are slim, to say the least.
Dont Bother: Its Not Very Effective
As weve seen, then, when it comes to Normal STAB, your goal is to break through using brute Attack or Special Attack alone. Nothing at all is weak to Normal moves. Not unless youre playing Inverse Battles in Pokémon X and Y, and lets be honest with ourselves: nobody is playing Inverse Battles in Pokémon X and Y.
The issue with simply spamming the strongest Normal STAB you can muster is this: lots of opponents can stop that nonsense right away. Steel and Rock both resist Normal, while Ghost is totally immune to it . A second STAB from a dual typing is often needed to alleviate this problem, which defies the whole point of having a Normal-type in this context.

Pokemon Go Type Chart: Strengths Effectiveness Weaknesses And Resistances Explained
In Pokemon Go, Every type of Pokemon has four different relationships with other types any trainer should be aware of. That is:
- Strong Against: represented on our type chart as Strong Vs, attacks from the listed type against the type listed here will deal additional damage to your opponent. This is ‘Super Effective’.
- Weak Against: represented here as Weak Vs, attacks from the listed type against these types will do less damage to the enemy. This is ‘Not very effective…’
- Resistance: listed as resist, taking attacks from this type will do much less damage to you.
- Vulnerable: your type’s weaknesses. Attacks of these types will deal more damage – watch out!
So, for instance, Offensively a Ground-type Pokemon/move is Strong against Poison, Rock, Steel, Fire and Electric types, dealing double damage to them. It only does 50% damage against Flying, Bug and Grass Pokemon. Defensively, that same Ground-type Pokemon will take reduced damage from Poison, Rock and Electric Pokemon but also take double damage from Water, Grass and Ice – which is vulnerable to.
With that explained, let’s get into the Pokemon Go type chart in full.

Why Do Pokmon Not Evolve Into Normal
Normal-type Pokémon have an interesting characteristic: no Pokémon evolves to gain the Normal-type. Some Pokémon, like Azurill, lose the Normal-type. However, none gain it. This trait is shared with Bug-types, but in that case it makes sense that a creature that isnt a bug wouldnt suddenly become one.
The Normal-type is incredibly loosely defined, though, so whats to say a Pokémon couldnt become a Normal-type? Maybe a Pokémon like this will be discovered in the future.

Important: They Have Stab On Some Great Moves
So, yes. Its definitely not an easy life, being a super-strong Normal-type that just wants to claim some souls. However, these Pokémon do have one huge advantage on their side: Normal type gain a STAB bonus on some very, very powerful attacks.
From the darn useful priority move Extreme Speed to the formidable special move Boomburst and even the horrifyingly strong Explosion, Normal moves are some of the strongest around. Pokémon like Staraptor can find great success simply firing off Double-Edge until the recoil takes them out, hopefully having severely dented the opponents team in the process.
Pokemon Go: Type Effectiveness Chart
Some type weaknesses in Pokemon GO are fairly easy to remember, such as the core weaknesses of Fire, Water, and Grass-types. Fire beats Grass, Grass beats Water, Water beats fire.
However, it become complex when it comes to less straightforward types like Dragon, Ghost, Fairy, Poison or Dark-types. Thanks to Niantics chart, as well as several produced by the Pokemon community on sites like Bulbapedia, these type advantages and disadvantages can be easily referred back to.
Breaking down this chart, the X-axis represents defending from a given move, while the Y-axis represents attacking with a particular move type. Green circles indicate super-effective damage, red triangles indicate resistance to damage, and empty spaces indicate standard damage. Lastly, the black X in some places on the grid indicate immunity to damage from that particular move type.
In written form, the type weaknesses break down as such :
It will likely take plenty of referencing and practice to keep many type advantages in mind, but fortunately for Pokemon GO trainers these resources are readily available.

How Do Researchers Classify The Normal Type
One of the most bizarre things about Normal types is the inconsistency in designs. They dont share a set egg group like Bug-types, and they dont share a common real-life parallel either.
Looking at all their sprites side-by-side, there are a few similar colors, but even there its hard to tell the difference between a Fairy type and, say, a Skitty. To add to the confusion, Normal is default form of the literal god of Pokémon, Arceus. So, what ties them all together? Its hard to tell.
Pokmon Go Types Strengths And Weakness
Pokémon also has its own set of weaknesses and strengths. For example, bug-type Pokémon are weak against fire-, flying-, and rock-type moves. Bug-type moves are strong against dark-, grass-, and psychic-type moves. Fire-, flying-, and rock-type moves will do double damage against a bug-type, like Caterpie.
Some Pokémon have two types, which means they can have a doubled weakness or have their strength and weaknesses cancel out to just take normal damage. Rayquaza, a dragon- and flying-type, takes four times the damage from ice-type moves. On the flip side, Shuckle, a rock- and bug-type, takes normal damage from fire-type moves, since rock-type is strong against fire-type.
Strengths and weaknesses also arent necessarily just opposites of each other. Though fire-type move deal less damage to water-type Pokémon and water-type moves do doubled damage against fire-type Pokémon, this isnt the case with every type. For example, fighting-type moves are strong against normal-types, but normal-types just do regular damage against fighting-types, rather than do reduced damage.
Knowing what Pokémons strengths and weaknesses are is an important aspect of raiding and battling. To do the most damage you can, you should make sure that your Pokémons moves are strong against what its battling.

They’re Super Effective Against Nothing
Along with few resistances to almost every other type, Normal-Type isn’t “super effective” against any other type either. Against most, Normal-Type moves end up doing a regular amount of damage, not significant but not minor either, but things get worse when you count the Pokémon that are resistant to Normal-Type.
On top of the aforementioned ghosts, rock and steel Pokémon are notoriously sturdy and take very little damage from Normal-Type. Normal-Type moves basically only come in two forms, they either do neutral damage or little to no damage at all.
