Pokmon Go Type Chart Explained

Top 10 WEAKEST Rock Type Pokemon
  • 0

Since the very beginning the Pokémon series has depended on a delicate Rock-Paper-Scissors-style balance to its Pokémon battles. Type effectiveness is a key part of building an effective team in Pokémon GO or Pokémon Sword and Shield or any of the other games. Once you know the basic strengths and weaknesses of the different types, you’ll easily triumph against any Pokémon type you come across in battle.

Every Pokémon belongs to at least one Type and will be strong or weak against other types. Some are pretty obvious – it’s no surprise that Water-type Pokémon will be strong against Fire types, but new players coming to Pokémon Sword and Shield and the Galar Pokédex may have trouble committing the strengths and weaknesses of the 18 main types to memory. Therefore, we’ve produced the following Pokémon type chart to help you quickly suss out what’s what when it comes to Pokémon battles.

In this guide, well help you understand how Pokémon types relate to each other, how the mobile game calculates attack strength and key ways in which this differs from the console game series.

If you’re eager for a full list of the 400 Pokémon available in the Galar Pokédex, check out our snazzy Galar Pokédex database tool. Logical Reasons For Dragon

Dragon-type Pokémon have three weaknesses and four resistances.

  • Dragon: The only true match for a dragon is another dragon.
  • Ice: Not even a dragon could survive a blizzard.
  • Fairies: Magic defeats mythical creatures in fairytales.

  • Water: Dragons are tough enough to survive tsunamis.
  • Electric: Dragons are tough enough to survive lightning storms.
  • Fire: Dragons breathe fire, and often live in areas surrounded by heat.
  • Grass: Dragons have tough skin. Plants are too brittle to deal any serious damage.

Dont Bother Ive Already Won / Get Ready To Be Defeated / Winning Is For Winners

Pokémon #1

This encounter can be particularly difficult, depending on the line up you get. Snorlax is always tough and there is a chance you could encounter three of them. There is a good chance you will encounter a Snorlax so you will likely want a fighter on your team, either Machamp or Lucario. We also recommend Raikou or another strong Electric type in the lead to deal with Gyarados and then have shadow ball ready in case Gardevoir is in the second slot. Then you could bring an Ice type or maybe Tyranitar to deal with the 3rd Pokemon encounter.

  • Lead with Fighting type
  • Have Ice and Electric types in back.
  • Metagross with Meteor Mash and Dialga are also good back up options
  • Ursaring with Fighting moves is surprisingly strong in this match up
  • Dragonite with any Dragon-type move set as it has bulk and great neutral damage output
  • Lucario with double Fighting is also good, as its second type is Steel and that helps him a lot in this fight

Recommended Pokemon for this encounter is Machamp , with Lucario and Breloom being great options. All of these Pokémon take super-effective damage from Fighting moves, so you will only need your best fighting types here.

What Pokemon Are Good Against Rock

Competitive Spotlight: Magcargo

The strongest Grass-Type Pokemon are Venusaur and Exeggutor and the strongest Water-Type Pokemon is Vaporeon. Gyarados is another option, but it could be weak to any Rock-Type attacks Rhydon could be sporting. The most powerful Raid Boss currently in the game is Tyranitar, with a whopping 34,707 CP.

No Concept Of Immunities/no Effect

Every attack in Pokémon GO damages an opposing monster in the mainline games, a small number of type matchups actually result in no damage i.e. immunity, usually with the message X has no effect. These matchups are:

  • Normal and Fighting immune to Ghost
  • Flying immune to Ground
  • Ghost immune to Normal and Fighting
  • Fairy immune to Dragon

These special cases still exist in Pokémon GO, however, they do around a third normal damagerather than doing no damage at all. In our type chart, these type immunities are bolded and placed in square brackets. REMEMBER – in the mainline games like Pokémon Sword and Shield, these attacks will have no effect whatsoever!

Poison Type Weakness And Strengths

It is one of the weakest types of pokemon that is super effective against only grass-type pokemon. But, now its extra advantage is against the new fairy type. It fairs a little bit defensively but its best advantage is through status moves like toxic. There are 69 Poison-type pokemon, a few of the poison-type pokemon are Weezing-Galar, Venusaur, Toxapex, Toxtricity, and Gengar.

  • Poison moves are super effective against grass & fairy type
  • Grass, fighting, poison, bug, and a fairy are not much effecting on poison type

  • Poison moves are not very effective against poison, ground, rock, and ghost
  • Poison moves do not affect steel.

Logical Reasons For Ghost

Ghost-type Pokémon have two weaknesses, resistances, and immunities.

  • Ghost: In their former life, the ghost was afraid of ghosts.
  • Dark: In their former life, the ghost was afraid of the dark.

  • Bug: Bugs no longer scare otherworldly creatures.
  • Poison: Toxins affect the dead less than the living.

  • Normal: Regular animals have no way of fighting ghosts.
  • Fighting: Brute strength doesn’t matter when a ghost can’t be touched.

Are You Scared Of Psychics That Use Unseen Power

Possible encounters feature Psychic type Pokémon.

Pokémon #1

Counters: Tyranitar, Weavile, Houndoom

Grunts using this taunt will use Psychic type Pokémon from the Drowzee, Abra, and Ralts evolution lines, all of which are easily defeat by your average Dark type Pokemon. You can use the same team you would usually use for Mewtwo or Deoxys raids. Ralts and Kirlia are Fairy types and have the potential to do damage to your dark types, but they are so incredibly squishy that it shouldnt matter too much. Tyranitar is perfectly good enough for these encounters and you likely have some powered up.

With the addition of Exeggcute line, your best bug types will be very useful as they are double weak to bug type attacks.

Pokemon Go Type Chart: Strength Weakness And Effectiveness For All Types

Pokemon Types are the core of battles in Pokemon Go just as in the rest of the series – and to succeed, you’ll need to understand Pokemon type strengths, weaknesses and effectiveness.

As hardcore Pokemon fans will already know quite well, each Pokemon has one or two types, and types determine much about how that Pokemon battles. For the Pokemon Trainer, type is important because certain types are strong against others, meaning you can deal or take additional damage, or on the other hand lessen the amount of damage received.

There’s 18 different types, and each type is either strong, weak or neutral versus other types. At the most basic level with the starter Pokemon this breaks down to Rock, Paper, Scissors – Charmander beats Bulbasaur who beats Squirtle which comes full circle by beating Fire.

That all makes sense and is nice and easy – though things get more complicated when you start introducing more obtuse Pokemon Types types like Fairy or Dragon, or when you consider Pokemon with multiple types. Then you have to consider that moves have types – so a fire-type Pokemon like Charizard can easily come stacked with Dragon and Flying-type moves, meaning its damage output on the type chart is attached to those types rather than its raw type.

Ice Type Weakness And Strengths

Ice-type pokemons are the rarest type of pokemon. This type consists of over 60 pokemon. These pokemons are ranked defensively in the term of stats, although a different type of weaknesses can let them down. Most of the ice-type pokemon are mythical. Aurora, Azure, Glacia, Ietta, Snowflake, and Niege are the few pokemon from the ice category.

Strengths: Ice moves are super effective against grass, ground, flying & dragon Ice-type pokemon are not very effective against ice typeWeaknesses: Ice moves are not very effective against fire, water, ice & steel Fire, fighting, rock & steel type pokemon can be harmful to ice type.

What Is Weak To What

If you’re here, you probably don’t know the type weaknesses and resistances. Also, maybe you don’t know that when a pokmon uses an attack of its type, like if an elecrtic pokmon uses an electric attack, the damage is multiplied by 1.5. Well, here are the types:

Normal is a plain type. Some people say it’s useless, but others say it’s great. I’d say Normal type pokmon are good, many of them have good status and they have only one weakness, Fighting, and are competely immune to Ghost, although they resist no other type. Normal type attacks, however, are not as good. No type is weak to them, but Ghost is immune to Normal and Rock and Steel resist it. But Normal attacks can be the solution to your problems anyway, as most pokmon can learn Normal attacks and many of them are strong. The Normal type is a physical type, so all Normal attacks are counted as physical attacks.

Fire is a “hot” type. Fire is a powerful type that should be on every team. Scizor and Forretress, both very common in teams, are only weak to Fire. Fire is super effective on Bug, Steel, Grass and Ice and is not very effective on Fire, Water, Rock and Dragon. No type is immune to Fire. Water, Rock and Ground are super effective on Fire pokmon and Fire, Grass, Bug, Ice and Steel are not very effective on them. The Fire type is a special type, so all Fire attacks are counted as special attacks.

How Does The Types Work In Pokmon

In the recent Pokémon installments we can find 18 Pokemon types. The latest one, Fairy, was introduced in Diamond & Pearl. Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel and Fairy. Each Pokémon can have 1 or 2 types. They can have up to 4 moves, or attacks, that also have types. The type of moves is the one that interacts with the type of the defending Pokémon.

When fighting, players should use Pokémon moves that have an advantage over their opponents type so they cause more damage to the rival creatures. If done, they will inflict double damage . It is important to note that some Pokémon are double-type, so their resistances and weaknesses stack. For example, using a Grass-type move against a Groud-Rock type Pokémon will inflict a x4 modifier in the damage since it causes a x2 in each type.

There is another feature to take into consideration when ordering a Pokémon to attack. The STAB or Same Type Attack Bonus implies that when a Pokémon has the same type as the move it is using, it will have a 1,5 damage multiplier. For example, a Grass type Pokémon using a Grass-type move. This can be stacked with the previous mention advantages.

Bug Type Weakness And Strengths

Most of the bug-type pokemon grow very fastly. Also, evolve quickly than the other type of pokemon. As result, they are often very is not a very suitable type if we compare it to the others. Most of the bugs are useless, although, few are useful they are less in the quantity.Venomoth, Scyther, Mega Pinsir, and Ledyba are some pokemon from the bug family.

Strengths: Bug moves are super effective against grass, psychic & dark Grass, fighting, and ground are the types that can harm bug type very easilyWeaknesses: Bug moves are not very effective against fire, fighting, poison, flying, ghost & steel type Fire, flying & rock can easily affect negatively against bug type
