Where To Get Pokemon Cards Appraised

Submit The Card To A Card

Getting my Pokémon Cards Appraised! Sending to PSA!

There is really only one way to have a Pokemon card graded, and that’s to submit it for examination to a third party company.

There are several trading card rating companies, although some are more notable than others. A few of the more well-known ones with solid reputations are Professional Sports Authenticators, Beckett Grading Services, and Sportscard Guaranty.

The process of submitting a card one wants officially graded is quite simple. Head over to the company of choice, fill out some basic information about the particular card or cards that need to be graded, and then follow the instructions provided to mail the cards in for evaluation.

Once the company receives the cards, they will be through an authentification process and then they will face a comprehensive grading examination. The card will be given a rating out of ten, with ten being the absolute best condition. Pokemon cards that receive a rating less than nine are, in most cases, not going to be worth a whole lot of money. There are a few exceptions to this rule, of course.

When a submitted card has gotten its official rating, it will then be encapsulated in a protective case. The case will receive a label at the top that shows the rating it earned as well as the name of the company that graded it. Finally, the Pokemon card will be mailed back to its owner.

Selling Pokemon Cards: Expert Tips And Takeaways

  • Look for rarity indicators such as the type of Pokemon, set symbol and shadow box and, of course, the holographic reflection.
  • Pratte recommends getting your cards authenticated and graded if you know theyre worth at least $100 eachand especially if you plan to see them. For cards of lesser value, the cost of getting it graded could exceed the potential selling price of the card.
  • Dont fret if you dont have ultra-rare cards. Even some of the lesser-known cards in the base set are worth about $20 each as long as theyre in good condition.
  • Be prepared to haggle. Getting them graded can definitely help prove your cards are legitimate, but youll still need to back up their worth with quotes from other buyers, PSAs price guide and other sources when negotiating to get the best deal.

What Are The Card Grading Services

The three big players out there for you to use: They are PSA and BGS and Certified Guaranty Company .;

  • CGCis the new kid on the block as far as grading Pokemon cards. But their company has been around for over 20 years.; CGC was mostly known as a Comic Book Grading Company, and just started grading cards in the summer of 2020. They use their famous blue label for grading comics and cards.; I have used CGCs services for over 10 years for grading comics, and I recently started using them for Pokemon and Magic: the Gathering cards.; They have the fastest turnaround times right now, and are also the least expensive to use.; They are considered very strict graders by many collectors.; They also offer subgrades on their cards.; Here is a link if you want to test the waters with CGC.; I have been happy with CGC, and find them very reliable.; CGCs bulk submissions require a 50 card minimum, and are $9 per card.; Their turnaround time is currently 90 working days.;;

All 3 services are great and trustworthy.; You really cant go wrong with any of them.; I personally use both CGC and PSA for Pokemon cards.; But I would trust all 3 with my cards.; PSA grades currently seem to have the highest realized value right now when selling.; CGC is the new kid on the block, with the cheapest price and fastest turnaround times.; BGS and CGC both offer subgrades on their cards, which is awesome for very valuable cards!; You can see examples of subgrades on this page.; I wish PSA offered subgrades like CGC and BGS.;;

Reasons Not To Invest In Pokemon Cards

Theres a potential upside to investing in Pokemon cards, but as with all unique investments, the cons deserve to be heard:;

  • Pokemania may end soon. As with any investment, hype, and;influencer marketing drive up the price of investments. So, prices may quickly deflate.
  • Appraisal is difficult and expensive.If you plan to invest in a card worth $5,000+ one day in the future, youll have to pay PSA $300 just to reappraise it and if the markets hot enough to sell it, theres a chance the company will become overwhelmed again and suspend services, jeopardizing your timing.
  • Cards could get lost, stolen, or damaged.Pokemon cards only hold their value if they remain in 100% pristine condition. If a PSA 10 Charizard drops to PSA 9 while its in your possession, it loses 80% of its value.;
  • Demand for rare collectibles is extremely fickle. Sure, demand for rare Pokemon cards may be high right now, but it could easily disappear overnight as young investors and collectors turn to something else. The same thing happened with Beanie Babies, some of which sold for $10,000 in the late 90s and are worth less than $10 now.;

Theres also another catch you should be aware of. Why Should You Get Your Cards Graded

Out of all the trading cards of our generation, there is only a handful that became collectors items that can be resold for a good amount. If you kept your NBA trading cards, Magic the Gathering Cards, or Pokemon Cards in good condition, then theres a high chance that you can sell those for a good amount.

However, not every old trading card can be sold at a good price because there are a lot of factors that come in when pricing these goodies. One of which is the condition of the card. Old cards that look like they just came out of the box sell way more than cards that look aged.;;

Although you can check the condition yourself, you still wont be able to sell it at a good price unless its been verified by an authority. So, if youve kept your Pokemon cards in good condition, its time to get them out of your cabinet and have them graded!

For the uninitiated, Pokemon Cards are part of the Pokemon Card Trading Card Game that originally launched in 1996. Back then, the original set contained just 151 cards one for each OG Pokemon.;

In simplest terms, Pokemon cards are baseball cards but for adorable Japanese Pocket Monsters.;

Since then, Pokemon has exploded into the worlds most valuable media franchise, valued at over $100 billion worldwide. For comparison, thats more than Star Wars, Spongebob, and James Bond combined.;

Fueling two decades of meteoric growth was a steady stream of new Pokemon creatures and thus new cards to collect. There are around 898 total Pokemon and over 9,100 Pokemon cards to collect in the English market.;

Not all 9,100 cards are available on store shelves at once, of course. The Pokemon Company International, the folks who make Pokemon cards, publish and release cards one generation at a time, with each generation lasting about two years.;

In total, there have been eight generations of Pokemon cards since 1996. And as the next generation of cards begins appearing on store shelves, the previous generation tends to sell out. At that point, its no surprise that certain cards begin shooting up in value!

Should You Get Your Pokmon Cards Graded

This is a tough question to answer. Usually it does not make sense to have a card graded unless it is very old, valuable, and in Near Mint Condition or better. Newer cards fit in here too if they are rare, desirable, or chase cards. A chase card is usually a bonus insert that might is not part of the set.

We would say if your card is very collectable card, and worth over $100 you might want to consider getting it graded. And we would usually only send cards out if you think they will receive a score of 8, 9 or a 10.; If its super rare and valuable, a 7 would be a good score too! Caveat: Any Base Set Charizard, Blastoise or Venusaur is worth grading, no matter what condition they are in.; A PSA 2, non-first edition Charizard sold for $850 in November 2020!;;

Check out our Pokemon Price Guide to check current values on cards.;

Check the Completed Sales section on eBay and find the prices that cards have actually sold for, not what they are listed at. First-Edition, Base Set Holographic Pokémon Cards sell at great prices. As do chase cards from many of the sets.

We founded TFG on the core principals of integrity, professionalism and humility, fundamental values that are inherent with our Royal Marines heritage. Alongside a genuine passion for the hobby, we wanted to build a Grading Service based on these core principals.

We understand the narrative of why use anyone else? and this has resonated with us from our conception. We want to challenge this and ask why not?. How To Safely Get Your Pokemon Cards Graded!!!

If youre not sure about whether or not you should sell Pokemon cards online or in-person, hopefully this explanation will help you understand the difference

If you have very valuable cards that are worth a lot, you may want to consider selling online through a trusted site listed above.

Additionally, selling online will be a longer process as orders dont come in immediately. However, you will have a much higher chance of getting your card sold at full price.

If you are selling in bulk and have full packs that you can organize together, in-person selling might be a better option for you.

Sometimes people just want to get rid of their entire collection altogether and selling in-person is a really easy way to do so.

Organize your cards in value, rarity, packs, editions, etc and see which ones fit the proper selling type.

Chances are, youll have to sell online and in-person if you have a large enough collection.
