How To Mega Evolve Your Pokmon

HOW TO *MEGA EVOLVE* Your PokeÌ?mon in PokeÌ?mon GO! (MEGA Guide)

Before you can even think about mega evolving a Pokémon youll need to be sure its one that can use the feature. Currently only non-shadow and non-clone Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard along with Beedrill and Pidgeot can do so but more will be added in the future. You can always tell which can use the boost based on the mega raids youve seen or participated in. These are the key to gaining the new Mega Energy, which is required to mega evolve.

Once you have that sorted out you just need to get some of that Mega Energy. Take on mega raids or complete special research to get more of the precious resource. Once you have enough you can mega evolve any of the available Pokémon simply by selecting the option on its profile. This will massively boost its power, but only for a limited time, which you can see right on the profile page as well.

After that its just about using them where theyre most effective. Raids, gyms, and Team GO Rocket battles are the most effective, especially if you have friends joining in the first two or need some help completing the Rocket boss battles. Just keep in mind the time limited nature of the mega evolution form and how rare Mega Energy might become down the road. But thats how to mega evolve in Pokémon GO.

How Many Trainers Are Needed

Mega Beedrill can be defeated with two trainers, but if you cannot guarantee the top counters with maxed-out CP and the best moves, your best bet is to make sure you have three or more players.

Using the Circle Lock Technique to guarantee Great or Excellent throws, along with Golden Razz Berries, is the best way to catch Pokémon. However, I personally suggest trying Pinap Berries for the first few throws, as you can multiply the already increased number of Candies that an evolved Pokémon like this will yield.

Which Mega Evolutions Are Currently Available In Pokmon Go

While a number of Mega Evolutions have released in Pokémon Go, they are not all available at the same time. This means that, if you wish to complete your Mega Pokédex, you need to keep a close eye on exactly which Mega Pokémon are currently appearing in Mega Raids. If not, you risk having to wait for their reappearance.

Throughout the Season of Heritage, there will only be one Mega Evolution available in Mega Raids at one specific time. This makes it the perfect opportunity to focus on gathering candy for that evolution and adding new entries to your Mega Pokédex.

Currently, the Mega Evolution available in Mega Raids in Mega Steelix.

Mega Evolving is more expensive compared to regular evolves. Youll need to collect Mega Energies to perform Mega Evolves. Pokémon will only stay as Mega for eight hours, meaning you should perform the evolves right before when you need them.

If you have another Mega Evolved Pokémon, itll lose its buffs immediately after you evolve another one. Each Mega Evolved Pokémon will also be added to your Mega Pokédex.

The Mega Evolving process is similar to regular evolving. If you have enough Mega Energy for a Pokémon, navigate to your Pokédex and choose the version that youd like to Mega Evolve.

How Mega Evolution Works In Pokemon Go

Niantic has done a bit of a press tour ahead of tomorrows update, so we have a good idea of the general gameplay loop for Mega Evolution. We dont have the specific numbers yet, but well all know once the new feature is live. In the meantime, what we do know is that Mega Evolution will be a temporary transformation, fueled by a collectible resource called Mega Energy.

While the datamine leak suggested it could be universal, Niantic has confirmed that Mega Energy will be Pokemon-specific. For example, when you go through the tutorial research quests tomorrow, youll receive Mega Energy for Beedrill, one of the four included in the initial roll out. Once you collect enough Mega Energy, youll be able to check out what Mega Beedrill is capable of. But you wont have to grind the same amount every time. After the initial Mega Evolution, which will be more demanding, the requirement for subsequent transformations will drop significantly. The main hurdle will be getting to the first time, and getting the Pokemon added to the Mega Evolution Pokedex.

Bonus Candy From Catches

If a mega evolved Pokémon is your buddy, and you catch a Pokémon of the same species , youll get extra candy from your catch.

For example, if Mega Charizard X is your buddy and you catch Charmander, Charmeleon or Charizard in the wild, youll get extra candy.

But if you use a pinap berry, this does not multiply the candy bonus.

Lore In The Main Series Games

Mega Evolution is a concept introduced in Generation VI in the main series games. There are certain Pokémon who can mega-evolve, reaching their ultimate form temporarily until the battle/contest finishes. Once it finishes or the Pokémon faints, the Pokémon returns to its regular form.

Trainers are limited to having only one Mega-evolved Pokémon in a battle, and a Mega Stone + a Mega Bracelet/Item are needed to mega-evolve a Pokémon .

Now its time to see the main issues of the Mega Evolution system in Pokémon GO and a list of potential solutions to make it better.

Pokemon Go Mega Beedrill Moveset

Like many other Raid Pokemon in Pokemon GO, Mega Beedrill has just two Fast Attacks that it will mainly use in battles. Poison Jab is a powerful Poison-type attack, but trainers who bring Rock types like Rampardos and Rhyperior wont be hurt by it too much. Infestation is Mega Beedrills other Fast Attack option and is a Bug-type move. As mentioned above, any Psychic types trainers bring into this battle will want to be aware of it but Flying and Fire types wont have any problems.

As for its Charged Attacks, Fell Stinger and X-Scissor two of Mega Beedrills four secondary moves are Bug so Psychic types beware. Sludge Bomb is a Poison-type move so Rock types wont have a problem with it. The wildcard move Mega Beedrill can have is Aerial Ace, a Flying-type attack. Rock types are also resistant to this attack.

Here are the attack combinations Mega Beedrill could have in Pokemon GO Raids.

How Can You Earn Mega Energy In Pokmon Go

Unlike Candies, obtaining Mega Energy is relatively more challenging. Youll be able to acquire more Mega Energy from Mega Raids, unless theres an exclusive event taking place. You can only earn the corresponding Mega Energy of the Pokémon youre facing during the Mega Raid.

After registering a Mega Evolved Pokémon to your Mega Pokédex, you can also earn Mega Energy for them by assigning a Buddy Pokémon from their evolutionary line. This means that if you have a Venusaur registered, youll be able to earn Mega Energy if you set an Ivysaur or Bulbasaur as your Buddy Pokémon.

How To Get Mega Energy

Mega Energy is the only way that youll be able to evolve your Pokemon beyond their former limits. And raids are the main way that youll obtain the most Mega Energy, but there are a number of other ways to get more. Here are all of the methods for obtaining these items:

  • Mega Raids
  • Field, Special, and Timed Research Tasks
  • Walking with a buddy that has Mega Evolved at least once

Walking with your buddy is an inefficient way to obtain Mega Energy, but sometimes its your only option since Mega Raids cycle in and out of the current rotation. But from time to time there will be research tasks that reward you with a handful of Mega Energy.

How Do You Mega Evolve Pokemon In Go

How to Mega Evolve in Pokemon go! What is mega energy?

As previously mentioned, Mega Evolution works a bit differently in Pokemon Go than in the mainline Pokemon games. Rather than a Mega Stone, you’ll need to gather a new resource called Mega Energy to Mega Evolve your Pokemon. You’ll receive Mega Energy by participating in Mega Raid Battles, which feature a Mega-Evolved Pokemon as the Raid boss. The faster your team is able to defeat the Mega Raid, the more Mega Energy you’ll receive as a reward.

Once you’ve amassed enough Mega Energy, you’ll be able to Mega Evolve the corresponding Pokemon. Unlike in the mainline games, Pokemon will remain Mega Evolved in Pokemon Go for a limited time, even outside of battle. As such, you’ll be able to see your Mega-Evolved Pokemon following you around on the map if you set it as a Buddy. You’ll also be able to take Snapshots with it and use it in battle against Team Go Rocket, other players, and Raid bosses.

After you Mega Evolve a Pokemon for the first time, its Mega Energy requirement will decrease, letting you Mega Evolve it again in the future much more quickly. It will also be logged in your Mega Pokedex, so you can easily keep track of which Pokemon you’ve Mega Evolved.

Which Pokmon Gets Mega Energy

You can Mega Evolve any of your Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Beedrill once you have enough of their corresponding Mega Energy!

Players can Mega evolve these Pokemon as long as they have an ample number of their respective Mega Energy.

  • Venusaur
  • Manectric
  • Lopunny

Every Mega evolved Pokemon is the final form of that species. Therefore, you may mega evolve Charizard or Blastoise but the same does not apply to Charmeleon or Wartortle.

The main reason for hardcore collectors to get mega evolved Pokemon is they can stay permanently in their Mega Pokédex.

Super Smash Bros Series

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U

Charizard and Lucario‘s Final Smashes are both Mega Evolution, which transforms them into Mega Charizard X and Mega Lucario, respectively. This Mega Evolution acts as a temporary power-up for the duration of the Final Smash.

Mewtwo‘s Final Smash is Psystrike, which has it Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo Y then use Psystrike.

Mega Venusaur and Mega Blastoise appear as trophies in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. Mega Blastoise, Mega Blaziken, Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Venusaur, Mega Lucario, Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, and Mega Charizard X appear as trophies in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Description

Mewtwo retains its Final Smash Psystrike from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U, which still causes it to Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo Y.

Lucario’s Final Smash, Aura Storm, has it Mega Evolve into Mega Lucario in order to use it.

Mega Charizard X, Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Lucario, and Mega Diancie appear as Spirits.

Mega Evolution Will Add A New Twist To Raid Battles

Fortyseven CommunicationsPlayers fighting in a Mega Raid Battle.

Mega Evolution basically allows your Pokemon to evolve one additional time temporarily.

Mega Evolution was introduced to the core Pokemon games with the release of Pokemon X and Y in 2013. In the core Pokemon games, you had to make your Pokemon hold a special, Pokemon-specific Held Item known as a Mega Stone so they can transform in battle. Mega Evolving not only changed the appearance of the Pokemon but could also upgrade their stats, change their abilities and even change their types. Mega Evolution was seen in other Pokemon titles from both the core series and spin-offs: Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Pokemon: Lets Go, Pikachu! and Lets Go, Eevee!, Pokken Tournament, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, Pokemon Shuffle, Pokemon Rumble World, Pokemon Picross and Pokemon Masters according to Bulbapedia. However, the new generations of the core Pokemon titles from Pokemon Sun and Moon onward didnt include the mechanic, opting instead to put the spotlight on new gimmicks: Z-Moves for Pokemon Sun and Moon and Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing for Pokemon Sword and Shield.

How Can Mega Evolutions Work In Pokemon Go

The Best (Upcoming) Mega Evolutions in Pokemon GO

We all know that Niantic likes to keep their game simple and we dont know how the game will look like when and if Mega-Evolved Pokémon come to Pokémon GO. But we can speculate, so lets see how can Mega Evolutions be implemented in Pokémon GO.

1) Mega Evolutions work only during the battle

Like in main series games, Niantic can implement that trainer can Mega Evolve only one Pokémon once during a battle. In that case, there would probably be one Mega Stone that Mega Evolves every Pokémon, you would simple click the stone button on your screen during the battle and your Pokémon would Mega Evolve until the battle is over or until he faints.

This implementation has a few problems. Pokémon GO battles often dont last very long, at best you can fight six Pokémon in a row and that usually dont take really long and right now only a few Pokémon can give you problems. If youre trying to take down a Legendary Raid boss for example, your Pokémon will probably faint in 30 seconds or less no matter how strong they are.

And if you Mega Evolve Pokémon during the battle, does it have the same moves as he had before and just boosted stats?

So it doesnt really make sense to implement Mega Evolution only during battles with current Gym battle and Raid mechanics. In that case, Mega Stone that Mega Evolves your Pokémon wouldnt really be that rare and you would just use it almost every Raid Battle without improving you performance much.

2) Mega Evolutions are permanent
