If you’re already a Level 30 trainer, then you may not care about this tip. But if you’re just starting out and you’re about to select your starter Pokemon , don’t! Like Lord Humongous says: “Just walk away!” Instead, walk away from the starters, and keep ignoring them, and eventually, the plump electric mouse himself will appear for you to recruit. Finally, you, too, can be just like Ash Ketchum.

How To Level Up And Evolve Your Pokmon

Evolution doesn’t work the same way in Pokémon Go as it does in the classic games: Pokémon don’t evolve or level up after battles with other Pokémon trainers.

Instead, you must catch duplicates of the same Pokémon, which drop Candy and Stardust. You can also send unwanted Pokémon to the Professor for a single candy, but be careful. Once a Pokémon is sent to the Professor, you can never get that specific one back.

Once you have gathered enough of a single type of Pokémon, you’ll be able to use the Candies to evolve it. Candy is Pokémon-specific, and can be used to level up any Pokémon in that evolutionary chain. For example, you can use Candy that Charmander has dropped to evolve a Chameleon.

In addition to giving you the next evolutionary stage of a Pokémon, evolving will raise a Pokémon’s CP and HP. CP represents how strong a Pokémon’s attacks are while HP represents how much damage a Pokémon can take. Stats may also be increased by combining Candy and Stardust.

Pokemon Go: How To Dodge Effectively In Battle

The best offense is a good defense.

At first it might look like all you can do in Pokemon GO gym battles is tap the screen like a mad man to attack your opponent, but you can actually use special attacks and even dodge incoming attacks as well.

The process is simple: when you see the opposing Pokemon about to lunge forward with their attack, or when you see yellow flash on the edge of your screen, simply swipe left or right. A message should pop up notifying you of your successful dodge, if it was indeed successful. If it wasnt, youll just sustain the normal damage from the attack.

Gym battles are a delicate balance between attacking and defending, and a lack of dodging could cost you your precious victory. Practice your technique, and youll be dodging like a champ in no time.

Relationships With Other Trainers Matter

Granted, Legendary Raids can become a solo thing for players who want a more private Pokemon GO experience. However, maximizing the game’s built-in multiplayer features can make it much easier to grab stronger Pokemon to use on Raids.

  • Use Trading: For a collection game like Pokemon GO, trading has become a powerful investment for getting stronger Pokemon. Thanks to the trading system, players who receive Pokemon can get them with rerolled IVs. Moreover, certain Pokemon become Lucky when traded, which means they cost less when powering up. Sometimes, Trading often with Best Friends can transform them into Lucky Friends, too!
  • Use the power of Friendship: Newcomers to Raids might find it surprising that their local areas might have local Raiders or casual players ready to team up. Finding these players and befriending them can help players tackle challenging Legendary Raids much easier.

Pokemon Go Pvp Never Seemed Like It Would Work Until We Tried It For Ourselves

HOW TO DODGE IN POKEMON GO

We go hands-on with Pokemon Go’s Trainer Battles and find them a better fit than we expected.

Featureby Kat Bailey, Editor in Chief

4 December 2018

Until I saw it for myself last week, I was pretty sure that Pokemon Go player-versus-player combat would never work. It’s the missing piece for Niantic’s immensely popular mobile gameone of a handful of features that makes Pokemon Pokemonbut it’s also an odd fit for a game that’s always been more about community than competition. It’s hard to imagine what Pokemon Go PvP would even look like. Constant dodging? Rapid-fire switching in real-time?

As it turns out, Niantic has been weighing many of these same problems as it has quietly developed its new Trainer Battles behind the scenes. “What does it mean to be ‘good’ at Pokemon Go?” Product manager Matt Slemon asked the assembled journalists in Niantic’s San Francisco offices. Then Slemon answered his own question. “If you’re goods at Raids and Gym Battles, you should be good at Trainer Battles,” he said.

As in the main games, type matchups matter in Pokemon Go, often necessitating a switch against an unfavorable opponent. But because Pokemon Go’s combat mostly takes place in real-time, switches are restricted with a cooldown timer. This forces you to make a couple big decisions during battle: when to burn a Protect, and when to swap out a monster for a more favorable matchup.

Used Incense Then You Gotta Move

Wily Reddit users found a way into the games code to figure out how Incense works. In case you need a reminder, Incense covers your Trainer in a pink, fluffy fragrance that attracts wild Pokemon to your location for 30 minutes. But you cant just be complacent and sit there waiting for Pokemon. If you stay still, youll only see one Pokemon every five minutes, which isnt a great way to spend your time. Instead, take a walk and youll lure one Pokemon every 200 meters.

If you want to rest on your laurels, then the Lunar Module is the item you want. It acts the same as the incense, except it attracts Pokemon to your position. A nice option for those who dont feel like huffing down the block on a hot summer day.

Pokemon Go Tips: When How To Dodge In Pokemon Go Gym Battles

Pokemon Go players who participate in battle gyms know that a well-timed dodge can make a difference between victory and defeat. Dodging is an art that all Pokemon GO trainers should master.

Pokemon GO Gym Battle – Dodging And When To Use It

Pokemon GO players who can dodge an attack will received less damage. Just like in all fights, players have less than a second to dodge an incoming attack. The Pokemon GO dodge indicator will emit a yellow glow on the screen’s edge. The Pokemon will only receive the damage at the ending animation stages of the attack.

Players should only use dodge between the times the dodge indicator lights up and before the attack animation ends. However, if it’s a short attack, the player can immediately use dodge once they see the text warning, according to Pokemongohub. It is important to note that Pokemon GO gym trainers have only 0.7 second to dodge once the attack starts or when yellow indicator lights up.

What Pokemon GO Players Should Know About The Dodge Move

Pokemon GO players who can dodge in battles can minimize the damage sustained by their Pokemon at a maximum of 75 percent. It is true that players can only dodge between the light indicator and moments before attack animation ends. However, not all Pokemon attacks can be dodged in the same way. For example an Acid attack will require the player to dodge it quickly or suffer higher damages. An Ancient Power however, takes longer which gives more time for player to dodge it.

How To Dodge In Pokemon Go

HOW TO DODGE LIKE A PRO IN POKEMON GO

We get the same question all the time, by new and old players alike: How to dodge in Pokemon GO?. The confusion behind dodging is quite understandable, as the game doesnt telegram when youre able to dodge very well.

Due to the fact that dodging reduces incoming damage, being good at dodging is an important part of Gym battles, and can often mean victory or loss. We advise you read through the entire guide and study moves in details, especially the ones that come more often in Gyms.

Lets cover the basics: you can only dodge in the time window between seeing the dodge indicator and taking damage.

The dodge indicator is a yellow glow that is displayed on the edges of the screen. You take damage only at the very end of attack animations. Moves that have ultra short animation can be dodged from the moment you see the text.

The dodge window lasts for 0.7 seconds, from the moment you see the yellow glow and until you take damage.

Here are the facts behind dodging:

    • Dodging reduces attack damage by 75%
    • Every attack can be dodged during a discrete period of 0.7s
    • That period is only available just before the move animation ends
    • Result: Not all moves can be dodged in the same fashion
  • You should always try to dodge charge moves
  • You dodge by moving left and right
  • Watch this gif and observe how long it takes for the dodge window to appear.

Special Attacks Are The Damage Dealers

It wouldnt make sense to continually dodge quick attacks. You cant deal damage while dodging and you cant dodge every quick move so you will naturally take damage. I reserve my dodging for special attacks. These attacks might have a damage phase longer than a dodge which makes dodging the entire move simply impossible as the game doesnt update fast enough to string dodges together.

Lets take a look at Vaporeons special moves. I always see this Pokémon defending gyms, so it makes sense to look into. Vaporeon has Aqua Tail, Hydro Pump and Water Pulse as a possibility.

We can see that Aqua Tail has the higher DPS , but you can skip the entire damage phase if timed correctly. This would prove to be difficult though as the phase is from 2050ms -> 2250ms during the entire 2.35 second move. This means with a 500ms dodge, you have to dodge somewhere between 1.7 and 2 seconds to effectively dodge this attack.

Hydro Pump on the other hand has an enormous damage phase of 2.1 seconds to complement the massive 3.8 second move. No human trainer can string dodges perfectly together during a damage phase that long. The application simply doesnt react fast enough, so damage will be dealt regardless.

Finally we have Water Pulse which has a 1 second damage phase. The DPS this move provides is pretty low so you can dodge somewhere after the first 1.5 seconds and still dodge half of the attack.

What Is A Gym In Pokemon Go

A Pokemon Go gym is a place where gamers pit their Pokemon against each other in combat. You dont battle head-to-head. Rather, someone claims the gym and assigns a Pokemon to it. Over time, other gamers will challenge this persons Pokemon in a fight for control. Whoever wins claims the gym for one of the three teams in the game. Then fellow team members can assign one of their Pokemon to the gym to make it stronger.

Assign one of your Pokemon to a gym to increase the gyms prestige and level, and lessen the chance of rival players taking it from you.

If you battle players from another team and win, you will lower their gyms prestige and level.

    Speed Is Key In Combat

Players with enough experience in Gyms and PVP would know that speed is easily a crucial part of Pokemon GO combat. In the case of Legendary Raids, speed makes the difference between a live and a downed team member. When in combat against a Legendary Boss, players need to take note of some essential strategies:

    • Dodge when necessary: Granted, dodging against Raid Bosses get much trickier when compared to ordinary battles. Larger bosses tend to have faster and bigger attacks. If anything, players should at least dodge against a boss’s charge attacks. These almost always get to knock down even the strongest Pokemon in a team, so watch out for these.
    • Fast Moves are more reliable than Charged Moves: Of course, Charged Moves are mechanically more powerful than Fast Moves. However, the latter are much quicker to pull off which, at the end of the day, can net more total damage.

Earning Go Battle League Sets In The Pokmon Go Battle League

Pokemon Go – How to Dodge EVERYTHING!

Until further notice, walking will not be required to unlock Battle Sets

Battles in the Pokémon Go Battle League come in five Battle increments called Go Battle League Sets. The first of these Sets is free, but each Set after that has to be earned and/or purchased. To earn a Go Battle League Set, you need to walk five KM, but you also have the option of paying Poké Coins to speed this up. Even if you pay to Battle early, you still need to walk at least 2 KM, so players who sink lots of money into the game will still have to work for their Battle Sets.

Players can earn up to five Sets each day. However, each Set requires walking another 5 KM, so participation really requires keeping active and playing a lot. You can see your progress towards earning your next Set in the Battle Menu, and the app also notifies you when you’ve earned another Set.

Don’t Use Protect Shields Right Away

Trainers get two Protect Shields to use that will nullify the opponent’s Charged Attack. Although most trainers will use these right away to block the first two Charged Attack, it’s worth considering if that’s a wise move. For example do you want to use a shield to protect a Pokémon that has one HP left from a Charged Attack, when the next Fast Attack would force it to faint anyway? Is it worth protecting your Gyrados from a Vaporeon’s Aqua Tail, that wouldn’t do too much damage anyway?
