Your First Decision Which Team To Pick

16. How To Train Gyms? And Other Pokémon Go FAQs

You have a choice between Yellow , blue and Red . Why? Well, because this is a nod to the colours in the original Game Boy game.

There are no real benefits to the team you pick, it is more about the different teams fighting to gain control of the Gyms in your area.

If you want to play the long game, you could see what colours the Gyms are in your local area and go for the easy option and join that team. However, being a different team to the Gym colour doesnt mean you cant get in. Personally, GO Team Mystic !

Worth noting is that once youve picked your team you cant switch.

Ev Training In Pokemon Go

I thought about how to make fighting in Gyms more appealing and more rewarding. For me personally, fighting in Gyms is barely worth my time, because grinding Stardust and looking for shinys is way more rewarding. I am aware that not all of you feel the way I do, and yet I do believe that for a majority Gym fighting isn’t really that appealing.

There are many threads about how people would like to level up their Pokemon via Gym fighting or Gym defending, and although I really like this idea because it would fit the feeling of other Pokemon Games , I don’t believe that Niantic will ever introduce this feature. If you could train your Legendary Pokemon to level 40 without having to Raid for Rare Candy they would miss out on money by Raid Pass sales.

But how can they introduce the mechanic of powering up your Pokemon by fighting in Gyms witouth missing out on Raid Pass sales? The answer is simple: EV Training. For those unaware of what EV Training is, here are two links that explain it:

“As Pokémon battle, in addition to gaining experience points they also obtain Effort Values , which are special hidden values in each stat . Each Pokémon you battle against gives off EVs in one or more stats.”

So your own Pokemon basically gain extra stats by fighting other specific Pokemon.

I’d really like to hear your opinion on this.

Does Your Pokmon Even Lift Bro

Pokemon Go

If youre going to start battling, its not enough to just collect Pokémon. You need to start making them as powerful as you can, and that means evolving and powering them up.

Most Pokémon can evolve from smaller, less powerful forms to larger, more powerful forms. Evolving increases a Pokémons CP, or Combat Points, the chief way you gauge the relative strength and combat effectiveness of a Pokémon. Evolving also increases the potency of their attacks and the Pokémons total HP, or Hit Points. The higher a Pokémons HP, the more damage it can take before being defeated.

Similar to how every Pokémon of the same type you catch may be different in terms of CP and attacks, evolved versions of the same type of Pokémon can also be different than one another. If you evolve ten Pidgeys into ten Pidgeottos, those ten Pidgeottos will have different CP and attacks from each other. And if you evolve those ten Pidgeottos into ten Pidgeots, you again may get very different results.

So the smart way to make your Pokémon stronger and get the most out of your Stardust and Candy, the two resources you need to make your Pokémon stronger, is to evolve first and power up second.

Pokemon Go

Stardust is a resource you earn whenever you capture any Pokémon or hatch an egg. Candy is specific to each type of Pokémon, and the evolved forms of that Pokémon. When you capture a Pidgey, Pidgeotto, or Pidgeot, for example, you receive Pidgey candy.

Learn Your Pokemon Types And Battle Advantages

If you’re struggling to beat a Pokemon and you can’t figure out why, it’s probably because of type advantage. This is basically the underlying principle of the whole Pokemon battling world. This is replicated in Pokemon Go, with weather factors also boosting some types over others. There’s also the issue of particular fighting moves that your Pokemon might have.

There are a range of charts available online that you can refer to for the nitty gritty, but here are some basic details of which types are strong against which other types. In the list below, the first named type inflicts increased damage on the second:

  • Bug > Dark, Grass, Psychic
  • Fire > Bug, Grass, Ice, Steel
  • Fighting > Normal, Rock, Steel, Ice Dark
  • Flying > Fighting, Bug, Grass
  • Ground > Poison, Rock, Steel, Fire, Electric
  • Ice > Dragon, Grass, Ground, Flying
  • Poison > Grass, Fairy
  • Rock > Flying, Bug, Fire, Ice
  • Steel > Fairy, Ice, Rock
  • Water > Fire, Ground, Rock

Picking Your Team Color

Pokémon Go

When you reach level 5 and try to enter any gym for the first time, you will be prompted to join one of Pokémon Gos three teams: Valor , Mystic , or Instinct . As longtime Pokémon players know, this is a heartfelt nod to the first three Pokémon games on the original Game Boy, which came in Red, Blue, and Yellow versions!

There are no clear advantages to going with one team over the other. Consider asking your friends who are playing Pokémon Go what team theyre on, so that you can battle cooperatively. Maybe you want to fight for a team thats underrepresented in your area and be the lone maverick!

Conquering Gyms Of An Opposing Team

First, check the stats of the trainer at the Gym. If they are better than yours, well, you probably will lose. Then click on each Pokemon at the Gym and check their CPs. The higher their CPs the more likely youll be pummeled into the ground.

Looks like a decent fight? Well, go for it but bare in mind you may have to battle multiple trainers to take over the Gym. If you manage to take over the Gym it is well worth it as you can pick up some awesome bonuses.

How Do You Train In Pokemon Go 2018 What Pokemon Should I Use In Battle Leagues

As is the case in most iterations of competitive Pokemon, the best thing to do is usually to use the Pokemon you like. Although youll probably need to use Pokemon that are considered meta in the Master LeagueMewtwo, Tyranitar, Gardevoir, etc.youll be able to use mons you like in the Great League and Ultra League once you train them up and build a three-mon team that covers a range of types. Also, the Stardust-boosted extra Charged Move will be way more versatile in the lower Leagues, as Charged Move strategies will emerge quickly in the meta-dependent Master League.

Battles In The Pokmon Go Battle League

How Does Pokemon Go Actually Work | Simplilearn

Battles within the Go Battle League are set up the same way as Trainer Battles and Team Leader Training Battles. You select three Pokémon and will be matched up with another Trainer at random. The Battle begins with your first Pokémon against your opponent’s first Pokémon, and until a Pokémon is sent out, neither Trainer knows what the other has brought with them. If you’re lucky, the Pokémon you’ve chosen will have a Type advantage, or at least not be weak against the other Trainer’s choice. There are definitely some Pokémon better suited for these Battles than others, but there isn’t a single Pokémon that cannot be countered, so there’s a fair bit of luck involved in winning these matches.

To learn more about which Pokémon you should focus on for the Pokémon Go Battle League, see our Pokémon Go Battle League Prep Guide.

Like other Battles within Pokémon Go, you’ll mostly be using your Fast Move until you’ve built up your Charged Move, which will involve hitting several bubbles on the screen to determine how strong it hits. Each Trainer will have two Shields they can deploy against any Charged Move, but dodging isn’t really an option like it is in Raids. Whichever Trainer’s Pokémon faint first loses. The winner will move up in Rank, as well as get an increase to their Matchmaking Rating. The loser won’t lose Rank, but in higher Ranks, you can lose points in your Rating.

Used Incense Then You Gotta Move

Wily Reddit users found a way into the games code to figure out how Incense works. In case you need a reminder, Incense covers your Trainer in a pink, fluffy fragrance that attracts wild Pokemon to your location for 30 minutes. But you cant just be complacent and sit there waiting for Pokemon. If you stay still, youll only see one Pokemon every five minutes, which isnt a great way to spend your time. Instead, take a walk and youll lure one Pokemon every 200 meters.

If you want to rest on your laurels, then the Lunar Module is the item you want. It acts the same as the incense, except it attracts Pokemon to your position. A nice option for those who dont feel like huffing down the block on a hot summer day.

Joining A Raid Battle

Raid battles are arguably Pokemon Gos biggest feature. Once you hit level 20, you can access raid events in which a powerful Boss Pokemon appears at certain times of the day. If there’s a raid happening close to you, you get a notification and have the chance to join. But if you walk right up to a gym, youll be disappointed when the bouncer at the door asks for a Raid Pass or Premium Raid Pass and you don’t have one. These can be gotten by going to a gym and spinning the photo disc. Only one raid pass can be used per day, otherwise, you need to purchase a Premium Raid Pass from the shop to participate in raid battles more often.

There are two ways of battling against others:

  • Locally: Open the ‘Nearby’ menu, which is at the bottom right corner of the map screen. This will give you a variety of Battle options. Trap the ‘Challenge a Trainer’ button and scan the QR code on another player’s screen . You don’t need to be Friends to battle locally.
  • Distance: First, you need to be Ultra or Best Friends to battle another player at a distance. When you are ready, go to your Friends list, and find the player you want to battle. Press the Battle button, and they will receive a notification. If they accept, the battle begins.

Evolve That Eevee Rename It

Pokémon Go Gym and Raid Battle Update

If you remember the original Pokemon cartoon, you may recall the three Eevee Brothers, who each owned one of Eevee’s evolutions: a Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon. If you nickname your Eevee one of the brothers’ punny names, then it will evolve into your desired evolution! Want a Flareon? Then name it Pyro. Want a Jolteon? Name it Sparky! Jonesing for a Vaporeon? Then call it Rainer. This may not work all the time, however it’s an almost-guaranteed way to evolve one of your Eevees, but this weird method may not work 100 percent of the time.

Team Leaders Pvp Training Guide: Defeating Blanche Candela And Spark

Blanche, Candela and Spark fights can be completed every day in order to level up your Ace Trainer medal and get easy Stardust rewards. Team Leaders are formidable opponents, and its worth knowing which Pokemon they have and how to counter them. Team Leaders will use Shield when training against them in the Master League.

Blanche is the leader of Team Mystic and shes the master of Water and Ice Pokemon. Her Pokemon roster perfectly reflects this, as she transitions from Water into Ice team as the fight becomes harder. Training against Blanche requires a mix of Fighting, Electric and Fire types.

Best Pokemon versus Blanche

Countering Blanche in the Great League easily defeated by Fire and Fighting types like low level Entei and Medicham, if you got them from field research or wild encounters. Other Pokemon with the same type can also be of great use here. We routinely train against Great League Blanche with a single Entei , but we know that folks usually storm through this fight with Medicham.

Countering Blanche in the Ultra League easily defeated by using a single strong Fighting type. The rotation is simple, especially if youre using Hariyama / Machamp. Fill up up your charge bar move versus Glaceon and shield against Glaceons charge attack. Finish it off with fast attack and use your charge on Empoleon immediately. Finish up with fast moves and do the same for Mamoswine.

What Is Hyper Training & Ivs

Pokemon Go How to Train and Evolve Your Pokemon

Before we tell you how to do it, we need to establish what it is.

Hyper Training is a method of Pokémon training that allows the player to maximize one or more of a Pokémon’s IVs through intensive training. This feature was introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon.

IVs is an abbreviation for ‘Individual Values’ also know as Individual Strengths. They are instrumental in determining the stats of a Pokémon, being responsible for the large variation in stats among untrained Pokémon of the same species.

Each of the six battle stats has an IV associated with it, with that IV coming into calculation alongside the Pokémon’s base stats, Nature, and EVs to determine the actual stat number.

A Pokémon’s IVs are fixed when it is generated by the game and cannot be changed unless Hyper Training.

A Pokémon’s stats are determined according to the above formulas.

Do You Mean Legendary Pokmon Can You Trade Legendary Pokmon

You can, actually! But legendary trades require extra restrictions, because theyre designated as special trades. There are actually a handful of Pokémon that are classified as special trade-exclusives:

  • Pokémon not already in your Pokédex, including special forms of Pokémon
  • Legendary Pokémon
  • Shiny Pokémon

To trade any of these, youll need to be at least Great Friends with your partner. These trades also require way more stardust than average ones. That cost will go down if youre better friends with the person youre trading with, however.
