How To Patch Ips Or Ups Files Using Rom Patcher Js
The ROM Patcher JS is an interesting specimen because it can apply an IPS or UPS patch. This means that regardless of which file format you want, ROM Patcher JS can pull through. You still need the base game, but the interesting part is that you patch the files online. Thats right, the patcher itself is a website and you dont need to download any app or program and here are the steps to use it.
This is a good site to use when youre playing on mobile devices and want to patch a rom hack directly to your phone.
Step 1Head to the website of ROM Patcher JS. Click here to go to the site.
Step 2Click the Choose File on the ROM File section.
Step 3Choose the base game for the patch and in this case, well be using FireRed once again.
Step 4Now click on Choose file in the Patch File section.
Step 5Choose any .IPS or .UPS file you want to patch. If you take a look at the image, any of those two will do but well use Pokemon Gaia.UPS for now.
Step 6Youll see a small green check meaning that both ROMs are compatible. All you need to do now is to click on Patch to start the process.
Step 7Once the patch is done, the file will automatically be downloaded on your device or computer.
Step 8You can rename it or not but launch the GBA emulator and see if the game works.

Note: I have no experience with iOS, so I don’t know if this method will work there. Also, if your save files are stored in an online service such as Dropbox, the process may become more difficult.

Short version:The .sav file is where all your saved data is stored. When you play a rom, the emulator searches a specific folder for a specific named .sav file, and if it exists, loads it. Most of the time, this .sav file is in the same folder as the rom, and has the same name as the rom as well. So, for example, if you opened xyz.gba, the emulator would search the folder containing xyz.gba, and look for the file xyz.sav and load it . So what you want to do is make the emulator load the older .sav file when you open the updated rom. You can achieve this by renaming the .sav file and moving it as necessary.
GBA games aren’t that advanced, so there is no straight forward way to update a rom. First, you will need to obtain the updated rom by patching it from scratch or by getting it from a site like this. In some rare cases, like Prism, you’ll need to patch your save file as well.I will be calling the older version “gamev1.gba” and the newer, updated rom “gamev2.gba”. Also, here, rom refers to the .gba file. If you’re playing out of a .zip file, the steps are the exact same. Just think “zip” wherever “gba” is mentioned.

If you ever played a Gameboy Advance emulator, then chances are you will need ROMs. The ROMs will act as the cartridges, which are basically the games. A Gameboy Advance ROM will have a .GBA file format. This means that only a GBA emulator can run this type of file or there are some NDS emulators that can run it as well.
It is like how an MP3 player cant play an MP4 file or at least only the audio will play, but you cant see the video.
That is the same for Gameboy ROMs, but there are those that come in a .IPS or .UPS file format. However, regular GBA emulators cannot play these file formats. What you need to do is to know how to apply an IPS or UPS patch to these ROMs. What happens is that you need to do a step-by-step procedure to transform a .IPS or .UPS into a .GBA file.

It is hard to draw the line legally with this sort of thing. The ROM hacker isnt making any money, but Nintendo does have the right to tell anyone to stop using their game to make a new game, no matter the good intentions. We wanted to know whether this is something seen particularly regularly.

How To Patch A Ips File Using Lunar Ips
In this procedure, we will guide you on how to apply a .IPS patch. The patcher we will use is Lunar IPS. This patcher will only work on .IPS formats. We will also use the Rocket Edition Final v1 as our .IPS file which we will patch with FireRed as the base game.
Step 1
Launch the Lunar IPS and click on Apply IPS Patch.
Step 3Choose the .IPS file you want to patch which in this case is Rocket Edition Final v1.
Step 4You will then click on the base game which is FireRed in this case.
Step 5The patch will automatically happen which is usually a couple of seconds.
Step 6This one is optional but you can rename the newly patched FireRed ROM to Rocket Edition Final v1 or whatever you want.
Step 7Launch the GBA emulator and if the ROM loads properly and not it isnt FireRed that comes out but Rocket Edition, then you did everything correctly.
