How To Change Teams In Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go: How to Change Teams – (Pokemon Go Change Teams)

Previously the answer was that you couldnt, but that is changing very soon. A new item called the Team Medallion is being added to the game very soon, which will allow players to change teams once per use. Tomorrow, February 26th will be the first day this item becomes available in the Pokemon GO shop. It will cost 1,000 coins, roughly the equivalent of about $10. You can only use this item once per year though, so use it wisely.

If you joined the wrong team way back when and want to change then just head to the shop and buy a Team Medallion. Use it and choose whatever team you prefer and your job is all done. Remember the limitation though, which is in place to prevent players from changing teams all the time for random reasons. Be sure that this is the team you want to be on for a year, at the very minimum. You wont be able to buy and use another Team Medallion for some time, so this is almost as important a choice as when you first picked a team way back at level 5.

Thats how to change teams in Pokemon GO. This is a new process, so well update this article as more is understood about it. Now for the somewhat bigger question of which team to pick.

Concerns With Changing Teams

Upon the news of this upcoming new Team Medallion item, Pokemon Go trainers voiced their potential concerns. The main concern is the ability to change your team will result in a lot of trainers changing to the same team. This could result in further domination of gyms by a particular team.

On the flip side, many have been frustrated that they were on opposite teams to close friends. This will of course resolve this issue and may create interest for dormant players to return.

It will be interesting to see how this dynamic plays out and how Niantic will react if one team takes a monopoly.

To round out your team you’ll need a Pokemon that can mop up any remaining opponents, or survive a late onslaught. By this point you’ll want to have baited your opponent’s shields, so that when your charged move comes online, it’ll do the business.

These four options offer different strategies for rounding off your battles, whether that’s more pressure, extreme tankiness, or something in-between. The great thing is that none of these choices have moves that require the hard-to-get Elite TMs to learn, so they should be easier to build.

You Can Now Switch Teams In Pokemon Go But Only Once Per Year

Players will soon be able to change their team loyalty from Instinct, Mystic, or Valor to another of their choosing in Pokemon Go.

By Steven Santana

Niantic will be updating Pokemon Go so that players can now switch sides and change their team from Team Instinct, Mystic, or Valor to whatever they want.

However, this comes with the caveat that you are only able to switch teams once a year. Meaning if you mess up on your change you have to wait a whole 365 days before being able to correct your mistake.

This feature will become available starting on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 1:00 PM PST. This feature is available thanks to an in-game item called the Team Medallion which can be purchased for 1,000 PokeCoins once every year.

Any of your Pokémon in Gyms at the time you change teams will be returned with no earned PokéCoins once theyre defeated. Youll also be unable to battle your own Pokémon, so if you return to a Gym that has your Pokémon defending it, your Pokémon will be returned to you with no earned PokéCoins.

In additional news, Latias has returned for Raid Battles from February 22-25, 2019 and includes the opportunity to encounter a shiny version.

How Does The Team Change Item Team Medallion Work

Here’s everything we about the Team Medallion team change item:

  • The Team Medallion is something that you buy from the in-game shop, costing 1,000 Pokémon Go Coins.
  • Its official description reads: “A unique coin that enables a Trainer to change teams. A Team Medallion can only be purchased from the shop once per 365 days.”
  • As the description says, you can buy – and as a result, use – the Team Medallion once a year, meaning though a team change is now possible, it’s still a decision you have to stick with for a significant period of time.
  • You don’t have to use it right away – it’ll sit in your inventory until you’re ready.
  • The coin is emblazoned with the three Gen 1 Legendary creatures that represent all three teams.
  • After you change, any Pokémon that was in a gym will still be there. But there are two caveats – they won’t give you Pokémon Go Coins when they return, and you can’t go battle them now you’re part of a different team!
  • If you use the Team Medallion on your own team, it won’t consume it.

Now we know how it works, once you have a choice in front of you, then, which team do you go for?

Can You Change Your Team In Pokmon Go

The long and short of it is – no. On one of the game’s official support pages – the same location you can send a nickname request – it says “Unfortunately, we are unable to change make team changes at this time.” Like Trainer appearance, this could be something that might be added to the game in the near future, but have provided no further comment at this time.

Developer Niantic has allowed team changes with their previous game, Ingress, through an online form-based request on its official website. However, the ability to request a Faction change in the game came with some important caveats only one faction change was allowed per player, and if it is accepted, then items earned and XP level would be reset. It’s not known whether something like this would happen if Pokémon Go were to allow Team changes, but it suggests the choice could be one-time only and would wipe a lot of your progress if you decided to make it.

So, in short – make sure you make the choice between Team Valor, Mystic and Instinct very carefully the first time!

Why Would I Change Teams

Pokemon GO – How To Change Teams

The team you choose in Pokémon GO is important if you want to battle in Gyms. To successfully hold Gyms in Pokémon GO you need to have multiple people on the same team to supply Pokémon and to help keep them boosted throughout the day. If possible, everyone in your family should be the same team to maximize the chances of holding Gyms easily.

When we first started playing Pokémon GO there were no other players in my area so my family of three picked three different teams in order to control all of the Gyms nearby. As the game became more popular, however, that decision became an annoyance. My family couldn’t play together, we were always opposing each other.

Now we can finally be on the same team and use our levels to help each other complete tasks, conquer Gyms and be the very best!

How Do You Change Teams In Pokemon Go

Changing Teams in Pokemon Go is super simple and only takes a couple of minutes to do. First of all, the change will cost 1000 Pokecoins which works out to about $16 if you are purchasing two 550 Pokecoin packs from the Store. However, as these coins are relatively easy to earn now, you should be able to earn yourself enough for a team change by battling at and defending gyms regularly. Theoretically, you can get up to 50 coins a day so in 20 days you can get a free team change. If you have been playing and earning coins regularly, you’ve probably already got a decent stash.

Important: The biggest thing you need to be aware of when changing teams in Pokemon Go is that you can only switch once every 365 days so choose wisely when you make the switch. After you have switched teams, you will also be kicked out of any gyms you may be defending, if you arent in a rush, you might as well just wait for your Pokemon to be knocked out of the gym, then change.

Once you have 1000 Pokecoins, open the Shop in Pokemon Go, then scroll down and grab the Team Medallion.

Once you have the Team Medallion, open your bag then use it. Make sure you read through the information properly, then select the team you wish to change to from the list. Make sure you are 100% certain you wish to change to this team as you will have to wait an entire year before you can change again.

All Done But Be Warned

And that’s it, you are now a new team and you can finally work with others in your community to be the very best trainers you can be. Now to those caveats, we spoke about.

This is a very big deal. For a start, you have to have 1000 coins to get the medallion. That’s $10 worth of coins, so it’s not to be entered into lightly. Now you can get those coins from playing, of course, but if you need to buy some more coins through an in-app purchase, you can grab an iTunes card from Amazon. They oftentimes go on sale, which saves you a bit of money in the long run!

You can also only use the medallion once every 365 days. This is smart on Niantic’s part, as it stops people from switching teams on a whim or trying to maximize their gold intake from gyms. This way, you are faced with playing as your chosen team for a whole year before you can change back. It’s a significant choice to change teams and the consequences should reflect that.

Let us know in comments how you feel about the team changes. Is it a good thing? Do you think it’s too expensive?

What Does Your Choice Of Pokmon Go Team Do And Which Is The Best Team

The only notable impact Pokémon Go Teams have on the game involve the Gyms and Raids. In Gyms, you fight on behalf of your team to take and hold the Gym with your own Pokémon, and other team members can join in the attack or defense. They also chat to you when you do CP Appraisals of your Pokemon, and while all three have their own phrases, each will grade them in the same way.

Holding a Gym for a period of time grants you PokéCoins, the in-game currency that lets you buy a variety of bonuses that would normally cost you real money. Likewise, you also get some slightly better rewards for spinning the discs above any Gym owned by your team.

Perhaps more importantly, there are some extra Premier Balls for catching Raid Pokémon that appear above a Gym owned by your team – so if you can see an Egg countdown signalling the start of a Raid, change it to your colour for an advantage! Similarly, if it’s your colour, try and defend it by feeding the creatures there Berries to stop it changing before the Raid begins.

That is otherwise about it – Gyms and Raids is where Teams really come into play. When Pokémon Go first launched, it was speculated by players that since a Legendary Bird was tied to each of the Teams as a mascot – Zapdos for Instinct, Articuno for Mystic, and Moltres for Valor – along with a relatively obvious clue to Teams’ significance in the Team leaders’ names Spark, Blanche, and Candela, it was assumed their availability would be based on your specific team.

Which Pokmon Go Team Should You Choose Out Of Valor Mystic And Instinct

Pokémon GO | HOW TO CHANGE TEAMS ON POKEMON GO

That’s a hard one to answer, as all three teams have no specific inherent advantages.

A Teams’ success seems to fall mostly on the one with the most players in any given area, and that in turn affects in-game bonuses with holding Gyms and battling in Raids.

According to an Adobe Marketing Blog, the game saw Mystic as most popular to begin with. At the time of writing over two years on, antidotally Mystic and Valor are the most popular choices to choose from, with Instinct widely seen as the underdog.

The best advice we have is that you join the same team as your friends and local community. If you can, discover who they are – participating in Community Day events will often see everyone playing at once for a short period of time every month, but simply observing the behaviour of gyms over a period of time to see who is most dominant will also work without having the need to interact with anyone, if you prefer.

If you do have close friends who you are able to play with in the same physical space, then being on the same side means you can group up to take down Gyms – or defend them – and help your team earn bonus Premier Balls from Raids, too, which aside from all the potential benefits is just a fun, neat social feature used by the game.
