Every Trade Evolution Pokemon And Key Item

In past Pokemon games, there have even been additional measures involved in the evolution of certain species besides simply performing the trades themselves. In such instances, specific trade evolution items are mandatory. Those items are still in the game, but as with the Linking Cord, the actual trading is no longer necessary.

To use a trade evolution item on a Pokemon, simply select the item and then apply it to the pal you’d love to see evolve. In this sense, every trade item now works the same way that Evolutionary Stones always have.

Let’s take a gander at every trade evolution Pokemon and what you’ll need in order to do the deed.

Lucky Friends And Lucky Pokmon

The best possible trade you can make is with someone youve become Lucky Friends with. To become Lucky Friends with someone, you must already be Best Friends with them first. All you must do from there is continue to send each other gifts and do battles together. Eventually, you will achieve Lucky Friend status. However, note that you only have one shot at becoming Lucky Friends each day, so you only need to send a gift and or a battle together once per day. You will both receive a notification if youve achieved Lucky Friend Status.

If you trade a Pokémon with a Lucky Friend, that Pokémon will be considered a Lucky Pokémon. This means it will have guaranteed higher IVs and will cost less Stardust to trade. More than that, the Pokémon will also only take half as much Stardust to power up going forward as a normal Pokémon would. Note that just by completing a normal trade, there is always a chance a Pokémon could become Lucky, regardless of whether you are trading with a Lucky Friend.

How Trade Evolution Works In Pokmon Go

Pokemon GO

Trade evolution! You love to see it. This feature has been part of the mainline Pokémon games for years, but its only now just coming to Pokémon GO. Basically, youve got to remember that the original purpose of the Pokémon games was to find a good use case for the Game Boy link cable, and to that end the franchise has always encouraged trading in any way it can. Thats why certain Pokémon only evolve when theyre traded between two trainers, ensuring that catching them all requires either two people or one person with two Game Boys. But that was then and this is now, so lets talk about Trade evolution in Pokémon GO.

Trading does not seem to be required for evolving any Pokémon in these games, as per the Pokémon Blog. So if you want to do it the traditional way, by saving up 100 candies, you can still do that. What trade evolution does, instead, is negate the candy cost for evolving a certain Pokémon if you receive that Pokémon in a trade. So if you receive a Machoke in a trade, you can evolve it to a Machamp for free.

Here are the Pokemon that currently benefit from trade evolution:

  • Kadabra
  • Karrablast
  • Shelmet

Luckily, the old methods still work, so the anti-social can still benefit. And the tradeable Pokémon only require 25 candies to get to where they need to be, so random people at raids might still be willing to help you out.

Trading Between Game Generations

Trade evolution update just hit... and apparently now Pokemon just ...

Pokémon can be traded between Generation I and Generation II games using the Time Capsule feature. For compatibility purposes, the Pokémon to be traded from the Generation II game must be a species that existed in Generation I and cannot have any moves introduced in Generation II. The Time Capsule exploit can be used to trick the game into trading Generation II Pokémon back to Generation I as well, but they will become glitch Pokémon like MissingNo.. Additionally, the trade evolution learnset oversight can also be used to trade a Pokémon with a Generation II move back to a Generation I game, though it will become a glitch move. This is the only instance in the series in which Pokémon can be sent back to games from a previous generation.

It is not possible to trade between Generation II and Generation III games.

Starting in Generation IV, Pokémon from previous generations can be transferred to newer generations through a variety of methods, though none of them involve trading.

How To Evolve A Pokemon By Trade

After trading the Pokemon to your friend, they should see a checkmark on the trade icon. This means that they can now evolve the Pokemon for free. Unlike Pokemon that evolve with stones and candy, all Pokemon that evolve by trade can be evolved for free using this method.

However, you should note that traded Pokemon cannot be given back. Once you trade a Pokemon to another player, you cannot get that Pokemon back from them. You will need to catch another one. This is why players usually trade their more common Pokemon to their friends. Some even keep a stockpile of weaker Pokemon just to trade to their friends to increase their friendship level.

Is Evolving By Trade Worth It

There are pros and cons to evolving a Pokemon by trading. The receiving end has the most to gain since they can evolve the Pokemon without using any of their candy. The gifter loses the Pokemon, but at the same time, they do increase their friendship level.

You need to think carefully about trading your Pokemon that evolve by trade. Pokemon can only be traded once and its stats will be changed once its traded. Knowing the risks will save you the trouble of potential regret. If youre just giving your friend a gift just to increase your friendship level with them, then consider not giving them a Pokemon that can evolve by trade.

If you need the Pokemon, then just evolve it normally. Although, the amount of candy required for the second evolution is 200 instead of the regular 100. If you and your friend have the same Pokemon, and its one that can evolve by trade, then trade the same Pokemon to each other so neither of you has to pay. Just know that the stats of the Pokemon will be altered.

New Gen 5 Pokémon and Trade Evolution Added to Pokémon GO

Most Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that evolve through trading need to be holding a specific item during the trade in order for the evolution to occur. A lot of these items are pretty rare, and trainers will likely have the best luck finding them by catching wild Pokémon that hold them in the Grand Underground. Fortunately, there are several Pokémon from the Sinnoh Dex that will evolve when theyre traded without a held item.

  • Kadabra to Alakazam
  • Graveller to Golem
  • Machoke to Machamp

Unlike the other Pokémon in the game, Kadabra will still evolve in a trade even if its holding an Everstone, so theres no way to prevent its evolution when trading. The rest of the Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that evolve through trading must be holding a specific Pokémon BDSP evolution item when traded.

  • Poliwhirl to Politoed with Kings Stone
  • Slowpoke to Slowking with Kings Stone
  • Onix to Steelix with Metal Coat

While many of these trade evolution items can be randomly encountered in the wild, often by catching or defeating large numbers of the Pokémon they are associated with, the main way to get a specific one is via a villager called Simona in Jubilife Village, who can be found on the west of the village near the Training Grounds.

Simona will trade you basically any evolution item in exchange for Merit Points. The items on offer range from regular evolution stones to the new Linking Cord.

Additionally, these items can be found lying on the ground in Space Time Distortions.

The only way to complete the Pokédex and catch them all is to trade with people, as some Pokémon will only evolve by sending them to other players.

The Pokémonseries has always forced players to interact in order to finish each game. This is because some Pokémon will only evolve if they are traded with another player, which means that cooperation is needed in order to catch them all.

Part of what made Pokémon Red and Blue so popular was the interaction they allowed between players. Online gaming didnt exist out the PC gaming bubble, and most two-player games involved working together to clear levels, or facing each other in fighting games. What separated Pokémon from the other games of the era was that it combined the single-player and multiplayer aspects together. The player could grow their team during their journey through Kanto, and then see how that team stacked up against the one owned by their friends. This was all facilitated by the Game Boys Link Cable, which allowed two systems to connect together.

The Link Cable also allowed people to trade Pokémon with each other. This step was necessary for completing the Pokédex, as some Pokémon could only evolve through trade, which is an element that kept on being expanded in subsequent Pokémon titles.
