Mega Evolution returns in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, here achieved by eating an Awakening Seed. Mega Evolved Pokemon also have all of the bonuses granted by the Awakened status . The only additional bonuses Mega Evolution grants compared to the Awakened status is the potential to change a Pokémon’s type and ability.
As in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, if Mewtwo or Charizard Mega Evolves, their Mega Evolution will be chosen randomly.
Additionally, during Rayquaza‘s rematch or Mewtwo’s boss fight, both will Mega Evolve once their health drops below one half of their total. Mewtwo will always Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo X during its boss fight.

The most obvious benefit of mega evolving Pokémon is in battle, where they get boosted attacks and combat power .
But, in many cases, mega evolving a Pokémon can also change its type, which can give you a sly advantage in battle.
For example, Mega Charizard X is a fire and dragon type Pokémon. But the creature it evolved from, Charizard, is a fire and flying type.

One thing that doesnt change about mega evolved Pokémon is their fast and charged attacks. These remain exactly the same.
Also remember that mega evolved Pokémon cant be powered up. To make your mega evolution kick ass, make sure to pump up the Pokémon it evolves from before squandering your mega energy.

Joining Mega Raid Battles And Collecting Mega Energy
Mega Evolving a Pokémon requires Mega Energy, a resource you collect by defeating a Mega-Evolved Pokémon in a Raid Battle. You may also earn Mega Energy by other means, such as completing research tasks. Mega Energy can only be used for one specific Pokémon species, so youll need to defeat a particular Mega Raid Boss multiple times and collect enough energy to Mega Evolve them.
Mega Raid Bosses are easy to identify in the Map View or Nearby screen. Just look for a Mega icon :
The amount of Mega Energy youll receive depends on how quickly you defeat the Raid Boss. Upon defeating a Mega Raid Boss, youll see a Speed stat on the summary screen, which determines how much Mega Energy you earn.
When youve collected enough Mega Energy, go to an eligible Pokémons summary page and tap Mega Evolve.
While Mega Evolving a Pokémon for the first time costs a significant amount of Mega Energy, Mega Evolving that Pokémon subsequent times will cost less energy. However, note energy costs are only reduced for the specific Pokémon you Mega Evolve, not others of its species.
After theyre Mega-Evolved, Mega-Evolved Pokémon will stay in their Mega-Evolved form for 4 hours, after which they will return to their regular form.
Note: Certain Pokémon like Charizard have multiple Mega forms. When Mega Evolving a Charizard, you can choose to evolve it into Mega Charizard X or Mega Charizard Y .

As always, players should keep in mind that the list presented represents the absolute best counters and move sets based on the current meta game. It’s not the end of the world if any trainers can’t pull together a roster of that quality though. The main thing to keep in mind is that the selected roster should focus on using the best Electric-, Grass-. Fighting-, Bug-, and Fairy-type Pokemon available.
Once players manage to team up with a group of other trainers and put those counters to good use, it should be possible to win the raid and move on to the encounter. Keep in mind that team and damage bonuses can help players secure additional Premium Pokeballs to use during the reward encounter though, so being a top damage dealer has its perks. Mega Evolutions aren’t actually caught, so completing the Mega Raid will help players save up the resources needed for the temporary Mega Evolution.

Right now, four Pokemon can Mega Evolve into five unique Mega Evolutions. Sound confusing? That’s because Charizard has two Mega Evolutions, Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y. Blastoise and Venusaur are two of the others, and all of the Kanto starter Mega Evolutions can be obtained through Mega Raids.
The other Pokemon that can Mega Evolve right now is Beedrill, which isn’t found in raids. Instead, you have to complete the aforementioned Pokemon Go A Mega Discovery special research, which will give you enough Mega Energy to Mega Evolve Beedrill twice. According to Kelven91 on Twitter, Pidgeot has also been found in the game files, leading us to believe we’ll see it in the game soon.
There are loads more Pokemon capable of Mega Evolving in Pokemon lore, but for the time being, these are the only ones in the game. Expect legendary beasts like Mewtwo, Groudon, Rayquaza, and Latias later down the line, along with others like Kangaskhan, Pinsir, Gengar, Blaziken… there are a lot.

After being teased on social media, the Mega Evolution feature has officially gone live in Pokemon Go, giving you the ability to temporarily make certain Pokemon stronger by Mega Evolving them.
At launch, only four Pokemon are capable of Mega Evolution: Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Beedrill .
Before you can Mega Evolve one of these Pokemon, youll need to collect a new resource called Mega Energy. Similar to Pokemon Candy, Mega Energy is specific to each Pokemon species.
You can collect Mega Energy by completing Mega Raids. As you might have guessed, Mega Raids are Raids against Mega-Evolved Pokemon. The faster you defeat one of these Pokemon in a Raid, the more Mega Energy youll receive for that Pokemon species.
Once you have enough Mega Energy for a Pokemon, you can Mega Evolve it. A Pokemon will only remain Mega Evolved for four hours. During that time, you can use the Mega-Evolved Pokemon to complete Raids, battle against Team Go Rocket, battle in Gyms, and compete against your friends in Trainer battles.
When a Mega-Evolved Pokemon participates in a Raid, an attack boost will be given to every other Pokemon in the Raid. Plus, in a news post, Niantic, the games developer, said, Pokémon whose attack types are the same type as any of the Mega-Evolved Pokémons types will receive an additional attack boost for those attacks.

How To Get Mega Energy In Pokmon Go
To Mega Evolve your Pokémon, youll have to collect Mega Energy for that specific Pokémon. Find Mega Pokémon in Mega Raids, take them on, and earn Mega Energy for that specific Pokémon. The faster you beat them, the more Mega Energy youll be rewarded.
It will take multiple raids of the same Pokémon before youll have enough energy to Mega Evolve, and most Mega Evolutions rotate in and out of raids. Not all Mega Evolutions will be available year-round, so make sure to stock up on any Mega Energy you want before the Pokémon leaves Mega Raids.
You can also get Mega Energy from some Field Research and Timed Research Tasks as rewards.
How Long Do Mega Evolutions Last In Pokmon Go
It’s not forever, but it’s enough.
Mega Evolutions are now in Pokémon Go, but this new feature is only available for Mega Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Beedrill. To Mega Evolve, trainers will have to gather Mega Energy, which works similarly to Candy.
The first time these Pokémon Mega Evolve, the player will have to gather a high number of Mega Energy. Beedrill asks for 100 Mega Energy, while Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise require 200.
The Mega Evolution will only last for four hours, however. But after the first Mega Evolution, the cost falls to 25 Mega Energy for Beedrill and 50 Mega Energy for the Kanto starters.
Trainers can get between 30 and 50 Mega Energy when battling in Mega Raids, so itll take from four to seven Raids to achieve the first Mega Evolution of a Pokémon.
For further Mega Evolutions, trainers will have to win one or two Mega Raids. Remember, the faster you finish the battle, the more Mega Energy you receive.
Some events can boost how long Mega Evolutions last, but four hours should be enough to do everything you can with Mega Evolved Pokémon. They cant be left to defend gyms or compete in the Go Battle League.

When Can Mega Gyarados Be Battled
Mega Pidgeot, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Ampharos will be appearing in Mega Raids from Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. local time. This will be Mega Gyaradoss debut in Pokémon GO!
Once players find a Gym that has hatched a Mega Gyarados raid opportunity between February 9 and February 20, they’re going to need to pull together a powerful list of counters to defeat the big boss. Mega Gyarados is a Water- and Dark-type Pokemon, which means that it is going to be weak to Electric-, Grass-. Fighting-, Bug-, and Fairy-types. That gives players a lot to work with.
For the best requests, players should consider putting together a roster that includes at least a few of these supreme counters and optimal move sets…
How To Mega Evolve In Pokemon Go
In order to Mega Evolve, you first need to collect enough Mega Energy. Everything we know about Mega Energy is explained in our dedicated guide linked in the intro, so once you’ve read that and obtained some Mega Energy, come back here.
With your Mega Energy acquired, head to the respective Pokemon you want to Mega Evolve. Tap on the button beneath the “Power Up” option and voila! Your Mega Energy will be spent and you’ll have a Mega version of that Pokemon for a limited time.
Right now, Mega Evolutions are great for battling in raids, gyms, and against Team Rocket. You can also battle against friends with them in PvP, but you cannot enter the Go Battle League with them… yet. This might change in the future, with Mega Evolution-specific tournaments or leagues. Don’t forget to set a Mega Evolution as your buddy for some great photo opportunities too.

How ‘a Mega Discovery’ Works In Pokmon Go
Research Quests, which allow you to complete objectives for rewards, were introduced into Pokémon Go in March 2018.
There are three types of Research Quests – Field Research, Timed Research and Special Research. Unlike Field Research tasks, which offer a selection of tasks that can be completed whenever the player chooses, Special Research tasks are the same for every player and have a set, story driver, order.
A Mega Discovery is a Special Research questline designed to teach players how to use Mega Evolution, which was introduced into Pokémon Go in August 2020.
