Can You Max Out Evs At Any Level

How To EV Train With Vitamins In Pokemon Sword & Shield

Please log in or register to add a comment. You can max out a Pokemons EVs at ANY level you wish. You will get the same boosts from Super-Training at Lv1 as you would at Lv99. Because youre new to 6th Gen I will remind you or tell you if you havent discovered or heard of the new EV technique which is so easy compared to Super-Training.

How Do You Remove Evs In Pokemon Emerald

First introduced in Pokemon Emerald, these six Berries each lower a different EV stat while making the Pokemon more friendly towards you. Another method of EV removal can be found in the Super Training feature. By using the Reset punching bag, the Pokemon can reset all of their EVs entirely, making a clean slate for training.

What Are Ivs & Evs

Pokémons stats are not just the base stats that you can find online. Each individual Pokémon also has its own set of Individual Values and Effort Values . Its a complicated process to explain what these values are, but theyre basically a unique set of values that influence how that particular individual levels up.

IVs are like human or animal genes. Theyre inherent to that individual from birth and are basically the unchanging potential a Pokémon has in each of its stats. EVs are like points that a Pokémon earns through various efforts that are applied toward each stat. The amount of EVs in a stat a Pokémon earns affects how much that stat goes up by when the Pokémon levels up.

Why Should I Ev Train

So youve now learned that Pokémon gain EVs after fighting against Pokémon and that there are EVs for each of the six stats, but what do these EVs actually do?

Effort Values raise your Pokémons stats. The amount that it raises a given stat by is based on your Pokémons level, but for a level 100 Pokémon, it will receive +1 point in a stat for every 4 EVs it has in that stat, rounded down. Just to be clear, since this misconception comes up a lot: that doesnt mean as soon as your Pokémon reaches level 100 it gains all of those extra points at once the gains from Effort Values affect a Pokémons stats at every single level, proportionately.

Lets take a level 100 Garchomp, for example. If this Garchomp has 0 EVs in Attack and has a neutral nature, then its maximum Attack stat would be 296. If this Garchomp instead has 255 EVs, it would have 63 points higher in Attack than one with 0 EVs, meaning it would have a much more fearsome 359 Attack. If it has a nature that raises its Attack by 10%, such as Adamant, it could reach as high as 394 Attack .

That means, instead of going with 255 EVs in two separate stats, you could instead put 252 EVs in two stats and then the remaining 6 EVs in a third stat . You squeeze one extra stat point that you wouldnt have otherwise gotten, which may make a difference in a close battle.

So How Do I Ev Train My Pokemon

Though specific strategies and items differ depending on which game you’re playing, there are some universal basic steps to EV training any Pokemon:

  • Remove any unwanted EVs
  • Use items to increase EVs as much as possible
  • Battle Pokemon that give out EVs in the stat you want
  • Use held items to speed up the battling process
  • Keep track of EVs gained if your game doesn’t
  • Receive Effort Ribbon as proof of maxed out EVs

Below we’ll go into more detail for each step.

Multiply Your Ev Training With Pokrus

You may have stumbled upon or heard of the mythical Pokérus status condition, and most players dont realize what the purpose of Pokérus is at first glance. However, its actually extremely beneficial to EV training.;

This will be visible in Pokémon Sword and Shield, as youll see a Pokérus status condition when a Pokémon is actively infected. You can cure a Pokémon of Pokérus by simply waiting and starting a new day with the affected Pokémon in your party.;

However, if you wish to keep the infection active, storing a Pokémon in your PC will permanently pause the cure process. This is particularly useful as the most effective way to give Pokérus to other Pokémon is by placing them directly adjacent to the affected Pokémon in your party.;

The spread of the condition is not always immediate after a battle, but it does have a chance to spread after a battle. Once a Pokémon has been infected with Pokérus and eventually cured, they can never be infected again.;

Fortunately, thats only an issue for continuing to spread the virus to other Pokémon. The benefits of Pokérus are permanent, even after the Pokémon has been cured. There will still be a purple face indicating that theyve previously had Pokérus.;

Pokemon Black/White – How and Where to EV Train

Those new stats are calculated with complex math formulas that involve base stats, ivs, nature, and evs. You can see the ev interface below. Manage with vitamins, wings, and berries effort value points can. Manage with vitamins, wings, and berries effort value points can. Each pokemon can have a maximum of 510 evs. In other words, putting 12 evs and putting 15 evs both result in the same thing: A pokemon’s stats become stronger each time they level up. Each stat that each individual pokémon has starts at 0 evs in it and can have a maximum of 255 evs . When a pokémon is defeated, its base stats are converted to effort points and then added to the evs. Most notably, pokemon are limited to 252 evs per stat, and 510 evs across all six. The pokémon data structure in generation i contains two ev bytes for each of the five stats , starting at zero when caught and with a maximum ev of 65535 for each stat. Before you start ev training, note you can only give one pokémon 510 evs. So if you did the math real quick, any amount over 252 is wasted.

If you get experience points, you get the evs. A total of 255 ev points can be put onto any one stat, and a total of 510 points total can be given to any pokémon. Now, since you can only invest 252 evs in one stat, how many stat points does that stat rise by? Is there a way to find out? A pokémon can only have a maximum of 255 evs in one stat.

Rule : Evs Invested Should Always Be Divisible By Four

Due to how statistics are calculated, this is one very important rule you must follow. Any leftover EVs after you divide them by four are wasted.

For example, if you earned 253 Attack EVs, 253 divided by 4 = 63.25, which is rounded down to 63. Those 0.25 stat points are completely wasted.

Using our formula, we will look at the important part of the equation:

Stat = ) * Level / 100 + 5) * Nature) = =

And remember to round down, so 63.25 = 63.

How Does Evs Affect The Stats Of A Pokemon

The answer is actually quite simple: trained Pokemon have Effort Values, while wild Pokemon do not. Every time your Pokemon defeat another Pokemon in battle, they gain EVs, which contribute to a Pokemons overall stats. Essentially, the more EVs a Pokemon has in a certain stat, the higher that stat will be.

What Is Ev Training

EV stands for Effort Value. It has nothing to do with training a bunch of Eevee, but it instead describes the process of training up your Pokémons stats to optimize them for competitive battling.

Imagine your Pokémons stats. Theres HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. Each of these stats also has a special, invisible number that is referred to by the Pokémon community as Effort Values, as these were required in order for a Pokémon to earn the Effort Ribbon starting in Ruby & Sapphire.

Officially, these are referred to as base stats or base points in-game, but almost no one uses that terminology and it is also confusing given the more widely understood definition of base stats that you will see listed on Pokémon fansites Pokédex pages the base values for each stat that determine how strong a given species of Pokémon is.

Think of Effort Values EVs like Experience Points. Your Pokémon gain them when they fight against other Pokémon, whether its a wild battle or a Trainer battle. If its a battle where youd normally gain Experience Points, its a battle youll gain Effort values from so fights against other players or in facilities like the Battle Tower, Battle Frontier, etc. do not earn EVs.

How Does Ev Training Work

How To Calculate the IVs of Your Pokemon

As you acquire effort points through one of the many different kinds of EV training, it will start to build up in the corresponding stat. In total, Pokémon can have only 510 effort points from EV training. There is a way to lower EVs if you have them in places that you dont want them and would rather focus EV training on a different stat.;

You need to have a total of 252 effort points in a particular stat to get the maximum possible effect of your EV training and the full 63-point boost once the Pokémon reaches Level 100. That leaves you room to use EV training to either spread out across stats, or to max two out and drop the remaining six effort points in one of the other stats.;

Even Pokémon that dont participate in battle can still receive effort points if theyre receiving experience, thanks to Exp. Share. So, youll need to make sure that only the Pokémon that you are EV training is in your party. If it isnt, the effort points you earned could be spread amongst other Pokémon as well.;

Other Ev Oddities & History

The EV system has been a key part of the series since Gen III. However, each game adds items and minigames that make the process of EV training easier to manage. Although most trainers will likely be spending their efforts on the latest entry, it’s good to search efficient EV training methods for the individual games.

In Gens 1 and 2, the system was similar, but much harder to reliably track and manage. Every single stat could also be maxed out, which eliminates the interesting part of the modern EV system. There is one consistency between the two systems: EVs are factored into stats on level up. However, it wasn’t until Gen V that Pokemon at level 100 could gain more EVs that are calculated into their stat total. It’s odd, but the system works as intended for all players. As another fun fact, EV’s are not a mechanic in any of the spinoffs, including games that have a leveling system.

EV Training may seem complex at first, but it’s a simple process and can make Pokemon much more exciting to play. As long as;players track everything properly,;they’ll be able to have specialized Pokemon for competitive battles in no time.
