How Do I Transfer Pokmon From Previous Generations To Pokmon Sword And Shield

Pokémon HOME: How to TRADE Pokemon With Other Players Online Worldwide and Friends in Pokemon HOME

This will involve the use of Pokémon Bank, the previous system used to store and trade Pokémon up until Gen 7. THIS FEATURE IS ONLY AVAILABLE WITH POKÉMON HOME’S PREMIUM PLAN.

You can find out more information on the official Pokémon Bank website, but as a rule, once you’ve moved Pokémon from earlier Gens to Pokémon Bank, they can’t be transferred back, so make sure you’re happy ‘losing’ them from your original games. The following infographic from the Pokémon Bank website shows which games permit deposits-only or deposits and withdrawals, but remember: TRANSFERS FROM POKÉMON BANK TO POKÉMON HOME ARE ONE-WAY ONLY:

The 3DS app has an annual fee of $4.99, but for the first month of Pokémon HOME, users can access Pokémon Bank free-of-charge, so there’s no time like the present if you’re eager to move all your Pokémon to the latest storage system.

Here are some details from the lovely Alex with regards to the convoluted process of transferring your legacy Pokémon up the daisy chain into Pokémon Bank and, from there, to Pokémon HOME. Over to Alex:

Pokmon Go To Home Limitations Gigantamax Melmetal And Mystery Box Rewards And Other Things To Know About Transferring From Go To Home

There are a few other things to bear in mind when transferring Pokémon from Go to Home.

  • The first time you do so, you’ll recieve a Gigantamax Melmetal as a reward! You can claim it via the Mystery Gift function on the mobile version of Home only.
  • You’ll also be able to open a Mystery Box in Pokémon Go, causing Meltan to appear for a set period of time. More on that in our Melmetal and Mystery Boxes guide!
  • Not all Pokémon can be transferred from Go to Home. Specifically, you can’t transfer Spinda, Kyurem Black/White, any Shadow or Mega Evolved Pokémon, or any of the special event Pokémon that have an altered appearance, like Armoured Mewtwo, Party Hat Pikachu or the Flower Crown Eeveelutions.
  • Pokémon with different forms in Go will default to a specific form in Home . Specifically this will alter forms to:
    • Castform Sunny/Rainy/Snowy – Castform Normal
    • Meloetta Pirouette – Meloetta Aria
    • Genesect Burn/Chill/Douse/Shock – Genesect Normal
  • Certain Pokémon require you to have caught them or registered them in your Pokédex first, in order for you to transfer them from Home to Sword and Shield. In brief, these are all of the legendaries/mythicals catachable in Sword and Shield via Dynamax Adventures, plus Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Victini and Genesect. You can view the full list in the Home mobile app by going to Help – Other – Pokémon you can send to other games.

Is There Any Point In Me Using This If Ive Only Played The Nintendo Switch Pokmon Games

Yes, but probably not in its full premium form. You can use this to transfer any Kantonian versions of Pokémon that normally have Galarian forms like Kantonian Farfetchd to Sword and Shield from Lets Go, Eevee and Pikachu.

The mobile app is also the only way to access the global trade system, so you should definitely use that if youre trying to trade specific Pokémon.

Using Pokmon Bank On 3ds

The most exciting prospect for Home is bringing our old pokémon from previous generations onto the Switch generation. For the 3DS era , which includes X/Y, Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, Sun/Moon, and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, Nintendo offered an app called Pokémon Bank, released in 2014. Bank was largely the same as Home, a digital cloud storage space to upload pokémon, in order to bring them into future games.

Bank also supported the older Nintendo DS generations through a free app called PokéTransporter. The DS had a GameBoy Advance cartridge slot, and it was possible to transfer the GBA era into the DS era using the in-game Pal Park in Gen 4. By using all these methods its entirely possible to transfer pokémon who are over 15 years old!

Pokémon Bank requires a subscription fee in order to transfer, though its free to leave them in storage. However, with the release of Pokémon Home, the subscription fee for Bank is currently waived until March 12.

In order to transfer pokémon from these older handheld generations, youll need to first set up Bank. Simply download it from the Nintendo eShop on your 3DS, sync it with the game cartridge or use PokéTransporter, and transfer pokemon from the game box to a storage box. Not that you wont be able to transfer any pokémon directly from your party youll have to start the game and move them to a box first.

Can You Keep Trading Pokmon Back

Pokemon Home Release Date

No. Pokémon Go has stated:

To bar some Trainers from continually re-rolling a Pokémon’s stats through trade. However, all Pokémon cannot be traded again. This feature incentivizes trading without giving a significant advantage to one Trainer over another.

So it’s one-and-done, to prevent exactly that.

How To Use Trade Rooms

How To Properly Use Pokemon Home To Trade

We explained the basics of the Room Trade feature here, but theres clearly more than just hopping into a room together and swapping creatures. These Trade Rooms are basically mini Wonder Trade systems in a way, and theres a lot of things that can be quite confusing. So lets get into the nitty gritty, starting with your choices for how to manage Trade Rooms.

After selecting the Room Trade feature you can either start your own public room, join one with a code, scan someones code to join them, or join a random open room. No matter which you choose the system will perform similarly. First off, each room can either be setup where you see which Pokémon the other players have picked, or they are kept hidden.

After everyone loads up into the same Trade Room a timer will count down to when you can pick the Pokémon you wish to trade. Let it expire then pick whichever character youre willing to give up. The other players will do the same, and once they do or the timer runs out all the Pokémon will be jumbled together and passed out to all the players. So basically, if you have five trainers in a Trade Room you are performing a random, Wonder Trade with only those five players.

And thats how to use trade rooms in Pokémon Home.

How Do I Register Pokmon In My Pokdex

Importing Pokémon from Pokémon Bank to Home will import the Pokédex data with it. Itll also show all of the different Pokémon forms for Pokémon like Rotom.

Linking to the Nintendo Switch games will not take the Pokédex data from the game, but it will after you import the Pokémon. It will not register Gigantamax variants unless you send a Gigantamax-able Pokémon to Home.

At the time of writing, it seems like the mobile version registers the Pokémon into the Pokédex slowly, so you might have to wait before all the entries fill in on your phone.

Additional Trade Options In Pokmon Home

If youre on the go and dont have your Nintendo Switch, you can trade in the Pokémon Home mobile app as long as your accounts are connected and you have an internet connection. Pokémon Home is available for download on Apples App Store;or;.

Lets look at the four types of trading you can do in Pokémon Home.

Pokemon Red Blue And Yellow Plus Pokemon Gold Silver And Crystal

Pokémon Home brings you cloud trading for all games ...

Starting right from the beginning with Gen 1 , Pokemon captured in any of these games can be transferred forward a generation to Gen 2 . Unfortunately, this can only be done with the Virtual Console versions of these games on Nintendo 3DS. Pokemon on these games on the Game Boy versions can only be traded with each other, and not onto Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald and onwards.

Boot up the game via Virtual Console on Nintendo 3DS and make sure that all of your Pokemon that you want to transfer are in Box 1 of your PC, with no other Pokemon in that box.

Now you need to open up both Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter if you don’t have them both already then you can download them from the Nintendo 3DS eShop. Make sure you have an active subscription to Pokemon Bank otherwise this whole process won’t be possible.

Open Poke Transporter, choose the Pokemon game you want to transfer from, then select Box 1 with all the Pokemon inside that you want to transfer. This will transfer the Pokemon from that game to Pokemon Bank via Poke Transporter. Scroll on down to the section about transferring Pokemon from Pokemon Bank to Pokemon Home to find out how to get them out of Bank.
