A Legendary Three And A Legendary Tree: Where To Find The Tree With The Legendary Birds

How to Find and Catch Galarian Articuno in Pokémon Sword and Shield – The Crown Tundra Location

First things first, to start this adventure off you need to head to the big, pink, legendary tree.

It’s located in the middle of Ballimere Lake. To get there, head all the way to the temple where you found Regirock . If you haven’t been there before, it’s all the way at the east end of Giant’s Bed, via the lower route through Old Cemetary, keep hanging right.

Just before you reach that temple is a river: surf along it to the far end and hop up left onto the land, and you’ll have arrived at Ballimere Lake. The tree itself is on a central island – the ramp up to it is on the opposite side of the area, so just work your way round in either direction to get there.

Once you reach the tree, the three birds will appear – and start battling! That is, until you get an awkwardly-timed phone call from Peony, and they all fly off. They’ve gone to three separate locations, and will each require three separate methods to catch them. Articuno is somewhere here in The Crown Tundra; Zapdos is running around in the original Wild Area; and Moltres is flying around in the Isle of Armor.

Preparing To Catch Galarian Articuno

Before trying to catch Galarian Articuno, make sure you are prepared. Have plenty of Ultra Balls and Timer Balls, or whatever Pokeball you want to catch Galarian Articuno in. If it is night time you can also use Dusk Balls which have a better catch rate than Ultra Balls.

Make sure you also have plenty of Revives, Max Potions, and Full Restores. Galarian Articuno can freeze your Pokemon during battle, and is level 70 so make sure to have a full team of Pokemon that are level 70 or higher.

You will want at least one or more Pokemon with False Swipe to get Galarian Articuno to 1 HP. You will also want a Pokemon with a status move that can inflict paralysis or sleep, because these increase the chances of capturing Galarian Articuno. Good Pokemon to fill this role are Zeraora, Gallade, Venusaur, Parasect, and Mew.

Be aware that many of these to have a weakness to flying type moves, so you should make sure to bring other Pokemon that can inflict status effects if you need to, and a separate Pokemon for using False Swipe.

As for Galarian Articunos moves, they are Hurricane, Freezing Glare, Psycho Shift, and Psycho Cut. So bringing Pokemon with an immunity to psychic type moves is a good idea. Galarian Articunos moves hit quite hard even if you are level 100, so do not be surprised.

Now lets see how you can engage in battle with Galarian Articuno.

Where To Find Galarian Zapdos The Bird Of Orange

Galarian Zapdos runs away from the Legendary Tree, heading north and settling in the Wild Area of the original Pokémon Sword and Shield map.

The fighting-flying type Pokémon is easy enough to spot, but youll need to deploy some tactical cycling to catch up after you find Zapdos in the Wild Area.

Below, you can see the map of the Wild Area and the route that Galarian Zapdos runs once it has become aware of your presence.

If you arrive at the Wild Area by flying to the Meetup Spot, you can usually find Galarian Zapdos just to the left or right of the path leading into the area.

When you get too close, Zapdos will run around the route shown above. The trick is to clock when it starts to run out wide, at which point you cut along the inside and keep using your boost as soon as possible to make up the distance.

However, when chasing Zapdos, youll need to be sure not to cycle too far ahead as the roadrunner-like Legendary Bird will double-back and go the other way, leaving you left in its dust.

Its route through the Dappled Grove presents better opportunities to cut in on Galarian Zapdos course and catch it on the inside.

Where To Find Zapdos In The Wild Area

Zapdos is one of the Legendary Bird Pokemon that appears at the Dyna Tree Hill. After this encounter Zapdos flies to the Wild Area. Here you will find it wandering around like any other Pokemon. I found my Zapdos directly north of the Meetup Spot. Once you do find Zapdos it will run so you need to have your bike ready to chase it. Try to cut it off so you can gain ground on it. When you do catch up to it you will engage it in battle where you must catch it . Once caught you will make a note on your Legendary Clue 3.

Tips for finding the terrifying Dark/Flying-type Pokémon

In the latest Pokémon Sword and Shield expansion: The Crown Tundra, we get the chance to catch new forms of the legendary birds. Galarian;Moltres is no longer a Fire/Flying-type, as it has now embraced the darkness to become a Dark/Flying terror of the skies.

With this powerful combination, it may just be one of the;best Crown Tundra Pokémon,; but we shall certainly see if the combo of decent Special Attack and its Berserk ability are competitively viable as time goes on. If the encounter against it is anything to go by though, we can imagine Galarian Moltres will be a tough one to beat.

Its not the hardest Pokémon to find in the game, we reckon thats;Keldeo, but even then Galarian;Moltres is also one of the easier ones to encounter. That said, this Dark/Flying-type doesnt make it all that easy;because of its really focused move set.;So let us help you with tracking down Galarian;Moltres and give you its stats and move set so you can prepare in advance.

How To Capture Legendary Birds In Pokemon Crown Tundra

The Crown Tundra Guides And Checklist

There are three – or maybe four… – main adventures that form the core story of the Crown Tundra DLC, but there are actually plenty of other interesting things to get up to in the expansion.

There are some spoilers below, in terms of just what’s in the game, so bear that in mind. Otherwise, here’s a list of everything else, and our guides to help you with them!

How To Build A Team With Articuno

How to catch Galarian Articuno in Pokemon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra

Articuno only has a niche in dedicated Hail Teams where it fills the role of a Pressure staller.

Stall the Opposing Team with Pressure

Articuno faces some competition from Mandibuzz as a specially defensive wall in Hail. Instead of using it as a defensive Pokemon, it’s better used as a dedicated staller.

Catch Galarian Articuno In The Crown Tundra

Since you’re already in the Crown Tundra, you might as well start with Galarian Articuno. The Psychic and Flying type bird soars around the Crown Tundra’s main Wild Area.

  • Head south from Frostpoint Field to enter the main Wild Area of the Crown Tundra.
  • Continue to bike around until you spot Galarian Articuno.
  • Get close enough to Galarian Articuno that you can get its attention with a whistle/bell.
  • Press the left joystick down to whistle or ring your bike’s bell.
  • Repeatedly press the left joystick to get the real Galarian Articuno’s attention.
  • Catch Galarian Articuno like any other wild Pokémon.
  • Galarian Articuno is unique in that it uses its psychic powers to create copies of itself. These are to trick you into chasing the wrong one. When I encountered Galarian Articuno, I spammed the bike bell until the fakes went away and the real one engaged in a battle. The real Galarian Articuno is the one that continues to wave its wings. If Articuno starts flying away, just chase it and repeat the steps above.

How To Catch Zapdos In The Crown Tundra

Galarian Zapdos flees to the Wild Area, so youll have to head there to track it down. We recommend flying to East Lake Axewell to get a good view of the land we spotted Zapdos immediately after flying here on a couple of occasions.

Then, the chase is on. Galarian Zapdos makes like Road Runner and speeds away from you, and youll have to give chase on your bike, cutting corners and avoiding other Pokémon. You can try ringing your bell to get its attention before it runs off, but this never worked for us.

When you finally catch up with the breakneck bird, youre faced with a battle against another level 70 legendary Pokémon, although Zapdos is a Fighting/Flying-type. As ever, make sure youre well-prepared, as fainting Zapdos or having all your Pokémon wiped out will mean starting the process all over again.

How To Catch Galarian Articuno In Pokemon Sword & Shield

After the quest has been initiated, Galarian Articuno can be found flying in the Crown Tundra region. At first, youll only see its shadow on the ground.

Youll want to follow that shadow. Eventually, Articuno will fly over a gap and start to hover near a group of trees. Head around the bend to get to the trees and then approach it.

Articuno will then split up into three different Articuno and fly around in a circle. You have to keep an eye on which one is flapping its wings; this one is the real Articuno.

Approach the real one and whistle to get it to fly down towards you, starting the encounter. It will be level 70 with a very low catch rate, so come prepared with plenty of strong Pokemon and Poke Balls.

We recommend using a Quick Ball on the first throw. If it pops out of that, weaken it and use a status effect such as sleep or paralysis on it. Dusk Balls work well if its nighttime, and Timer Balls are good if the battle has had many turns.

It might take several tries, but youll eventually be able to catch it. Thats everything you need to know about starting the A Legendary Tree of a Legendary Three quest and how to catch Galarian Articuno in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

How To Catch Moltres In The Crown Tundra

Galarian Moltres flees to the Isle of Armor, and roams there over land and sea. We recommend intercepting it on land, as its much easier and there are no Sharpedos on your tail.

If you fly to the Dojo, youll see Galarian Moltres gradually approach from the sea. Ring your bell or give a whistle while in its path, and itll swoop down to battle you. Prepare for a fight against a strong level 70 Dark/Flying-type, and youll be fine.

Thats all there is to catching the Crown Tundra legendary birds. Of course, if you want to catch the Kantonian versions , you can find out in our Crown Tundra legendary Pokémon guide. Alternatively, if youre stuck on the Regis locations, check that link for a full breakdown including those dastardly puzzles and weve also got you covered if youre after Calyrex, its steeds, or the Swords of Justice .

How To Catch Moltres In The Crown Tundra Dlc

Finally, Moltres, which is found over in the Isle of Armor.

Moltres location and how to catch it

Head to the Isle of Armor’s station, where you first arrived there, and Moltres will fly off. It actually does one, giant lap of the entire island, flying off out towards the big Wailmer in the sea ahead, going in front of the Dojo, into the next area, out to the tower on the beach, right along the edge of the map and all the way back round to the start.

The easiest thing to do is just wait in a spot where you know Moltres flies on its route. We waited in front of the Dojo but you could also wait in front of the Tower of Water, which is the big one on the beach to the west. Or, if you miss it, you could just get ahead of it somewhere and wait for it to come towards you, and line yourself up with its path of flight.

Either way, don’t listen to Peony’s advice, if you asked him for a hint back at his house – he says sneak up behind it, which is actually impossible because Moltres flies faster than you, and the opposite of what you need it to do. You need it to fly into you where you stand in its way!

Once you’ve caught it, that’s this adventure done! Report back to Peony, and then a final adventure will begin… They Came From Ultra Space! Head straight to our guide to that there, or back to our main Crown Tundra walkthrough and guide hub.

Throughout your Dynamax Adventure in the Crown Tundra, youll find yourself battling against Legendary Pokémon from previous generations and, if you manage to defeat them, youll be offered the opportunity to catch them.

Its important to know that, while you can encounter a Legendary Pokémon multiple times, you can only catch it once. This means that shiny hunters or trainers looking for specific stats might have to battle the same Legendary Pokémon multiple times, putting off the chance to catch it, until the right version of that Legendary Pokémon appears in the Dynmax Adventures.

Luckily, you can keep a record of up to three Legendary Pokémon, either from purchasing their location from Peonia for five pieces of Dynie Ore or encountering them yourself. These records will allow you to select this Legendary as the final boss for your Dynamax Adventure, ensuring you have an encounter with one of them.

A number of these Legendary Pokémon are, however, exclusive to either Pokémon Sword or Shield, which means that, playing by yourself, you wont be able to find them in a Dynamax Adventures.

Let Articuno Zapdos And Moltres Loose

How to catch Articuno! Pokemon Sword/Shield Crown Tundra DLC

The first thing that you need to do to catch these birds is to let them loose. They won’t appear or be catchable until you trigger a specific cut scene. As you navigate through the Crown Tundra, you’ll see a large tree. This pink tree is the first place that you’ll see the legendary birds.

  • Head south in the Crown Tundra to Dyna Tree Hill.
  • Watch the cutscene that has the legendary birds fight each other.
  • Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres will now appear in Galar, allowing you to catch them. But rather than being at a specific location, the birds roam around the Galar mainland, the Isle of Armor, and the Crown Tundra. Each area is home to one of the legendary birds.
