Professor Oak: The Best Trainer

The Best Pokemon Card Sets Ever

Where Should I Sell My Pokemon Cards

In most countries, eBay is a good place to sell Pokemon cards for good money. Many Pokemon traders and collectors keep a close eye on the site, helping you get a good price for your Pokemon cards, especially if you have good pictures and a good listing description.

The issue with trying to sell your cards to a trading card retailer is the business needs to make a decent profit on whatever they buy from you. This means that youre unlikely to get the best price from them, although they might help you to sell your Pokemon cards quickly.

What Are Pokmon Cards

First thing’s first: what are Pokémon cards? Featuring many of the 800+ species of Pokémon from the games and the TV series, these cards are designed to be used to play the Pokémon trading card game . However, many people collect, and sometimes trade, these cards without playing the game. Even if you have no interest in playing the TCG, you still might appreciate Pokémon cards as collectibles.

The Most Expensive Pokmon Cards Ever Sold

Even if you were never part of the Pokémon frenzy, chances are you recognize the name. Pokémon, short for “pocket monsters,” first hit the Japanese market as an electronic game series, “Pokémon Red” and “Pokémon Green” in February 1996. Two years later, the U.S. version, known as Pokémon Red and Blue, debuted.

The video games were soon joined by a show, a trading card game and toys. In other words, the franchise was officially a marketing department’s dream. Collecting cards was an instant craze, thanks to devoted Pokémon fans.

Then, just like with every craze ever, people began to lose interest. But those who held on to their cards were glad they did because interest exploded again between 2019 and 2020. Enthusiastic YouTube influencers are credited with the comeback.

There is a lot to know about Pokémon cards; here’s a quick shallow “dip of a toe” in the ocean of Pokémon.

There are three different types of cards: character cards, energy cards and trainer cards. The Pokémon are creatures that live in the wild or with their owner , who’s referred to as their “trainer.” The trainer’s goal is to “catch them all,” meaning all 800-plus of them. The more cards a player has, the stronger their deck, and the better chances of beating other trainers. Of course, there is much, much more to TCG.

The rarity of a card is indicated with one of three symbols on the bottom-right corner:

  • Black circle = common card
  • Black diamond = uncommon card
  • Black star = rare card

Espeon And Umbreon Gold Star Pop Series 5

A pair of Gold Star Pokémon cards from one of the most valuable Pokémon sets of all time

Sold for $22,000 in February 2021

Gold Star Pokémon cards are among the most valuable sets of Pokémon cards in existence and command an incredibly high value as a result. The cards are named after the gold star that appears next to the Pokémons name at the top of the card, which signifies that the card features alternative-colour artwork different from the common version. Only 27 Gold Star cards were released from 2004 to 2007, making them some of the rarest Pokémon cards available.

While all of the Gold Star Pokémon cards are rare, only appearing once in approximately every 88 booster packs for certain Pokémon TCG expansions, the very rarest are the Eeveelutions – the many evolutions into which basic Gen 1 Pokémon Eevee can evolve. And the rarest of the rarest are the original Japanese-language versions of the cards offered to members of the Pokémon Players Club, who could spend points earned by participating in official organised play and tournaments to obtain exclusive cards.

While Eeveelutions Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon could be acquired in the EX Power Keepers set released in 2007 via the Pokémon online store, their psychic and dark elemental siblings Espeon and Umbreon could only be picked up by players who collected enough Pokémon Players Club points. The Espeon 025/PLAY card required 40,000 EXP points earned, while Umbreon 026/PLAY was even most pricey at 70,000 points.

Use Free Valuation Sites

Another great way to figure out how much a Pokemon card is worth is to use card valuation sites. These websites allow a user to input a couple details about their card, such as its name and number, and be returned with results about its estimated value.

Websites like CardMavin compile up-to-date information about how much individual cards are selling for across the internet and use that information to make an estimate about the cards current value. This is the easiest way to check what a Pokemon card is going for in the present market.
