Episode 44 finally shows the debut of the popular fossil Pokémon, but only after Ash is trapped in a cave due to an explosion caused by Team Rocket. Ash and Team Rocket must team up once in the pit since the prehistoric creatures are trying to kill them.
It’s rare that the show is able to show the more aggressive nature of Pokémon, but this episode does it wonderfully. The crew narrowly escapes being killed by an Aerodactyl before they manage to escape.
The March Of The Exeggutor Squad
Episode 43 has the kids going to visit a carnival, where all seems well and good until they learn about the owner’s plan. The carnival owner decided to plant bombs in the road where a herd of Exeggutor are migrating.
The kids have to work to destroy the bomb before the Exeggutor reaches it and gets blown up. Bombs are pretty rare in kids’ shows, especially when they actually have the ability to kill a herd of wild creatures.
The Pokmon Anime Aired For The First Time In The Us 21 Years Ago
On September 8, 1998, the first episode of the Pokémon anime aired in the United States. That was 21 years ago yesterday. Oh God.
The episode, Pokémon I Choose You!, is the beginning of the whole Pokémon universe, showing Ashs first ever meeting with Pikachu. Its all fairly pedestrian in hindsight when you just watch this episode in isolation, but by reaching such a milestone Pokémon has proven itself almost eternal, immune to the whims of kids ever-changing tastes and the rolling tides of popular culture.
Some long-running properties like Transformers and TMNT have needed breaks in between periods of popularity to catch their breath, while others like Barbie are forced to constantly and completely reinvent themselves. Pokémon, on the other hand, has just kept on being Pokémon, which is a testament to how strong the central hook some kids on an adventure with cool and weird monsters who sometimes fight has proven.
Whats not eternal is anyone old enough to remember those first episodes, because this anniversary is a reminder that we are all made of ash and dust, and our fleeting time on this Earth can now be measured not just in years, but in Pokémon series.

In 1999, Nintendo stopped manufacturing the Japanese version of the “Koga’s Ninja Trick” trading card because it depicted a manji, a traditionally Buddhist symbol with no negative connotations. The Jewish civil rights group Anti-Defamation League complained because the symbol is the reverse of a swastika, a Nazi symbol. The cards were intended for sale in Japan only, but the popularity of Pokémon led to import into the United States with approval from Nintendo. The Anti-Defamation League understood that the portrayed symbol was not intended to offend and acknowledged the sensitivity that Nintendo showed by removing the product.
In 1999, two nine-year-old boys from Merrick, New York, sued Nintendo because they claimed the Pokémon Trading Card Game caused their problematic gambling.
Pokmon Art Academy Winner Card
Were going to start this list with a consideration of Pokémon collectible culture and a card that isnt yet on the high dollar list but will absolutely become one. Neo Genesis First Edition Holo Lugia

The 2000 Neo Genesis set was the first to feature second-generation Pokemon from the Gold and Silver video games that built off the massive success of the Red and Blue games.
And Lugia had the great fortune of being chosen as the character to be featured on the box art of the Pokemon Silver game.
Considering the massive boost in notoriety that Charizard and Blastoise received for being the box art characters for the Red and Blue games, respectively, the same is true for Lugia.
However, the difficulty of finding this card in top condition propels it even further into the upper echelons of expensive Pokemon cards.
Print issues are a problem for the entire Neo Genesis set, and the Lugia card is no exception.
Around 2% of the Lugias graded by PSA have received the PSA 10 grade, while even fewer BGS have received the BGS 10 Pristine label.
PSA 10 Lugias have sold for $76,000 and $129,000 before, but the BGS 10 brought home an even bigger price tag in May 2021 at $144,300.

Even in the original Japanese language, I think we can all agree that the first season of Pokémon itself was a goofy, over-the-top cartoon a lot of the time. This definitely clashed with the more rigid games. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the original Pokémon anime is probably a very poor representation of the video games that inspired it. Granted, the original Pokémon games were far from perfect and were very simple by most RPG standards even back then. In the first season of the anime, Pokémon learn moves that they technically should have no way of learning ever, stuff like type advantages feel more like a suggestion rather than a standard, and the actual rules for battling seem to change on a dime.

Weekly Pokémon Broadcasting Station is a closely related spin-off series that aired with the beginning part of Pokémon: Advanced Generation. The show was presented as an animated variety show, and showed clip shows, reruns of Pokémon episodes, television airings of the Pokémon movies, cast interviews, and live action footage, in addition to the previously mentioned Pokémon side story episodes. The hosts were Mayumi Iizuka as Kasumi and Yji Ueda as Takeshi . Book Adaptation And Re
A children’s book adaptation of the episode was released in July 1999. It was published by Scholastic Corporation and written by Tracey West. The episode was released on VHS and DVD on November 24, 1998, and December 13, 1998, respectively as part of the first volume of Indigo League: “Pokémon: I Choose You Pikachu!” The release also included the following two episodes .
Nintendo announced on September 24, 2004, that two Game Boy Advance Video cartridges, featuring “classic” episodes from the early days of the Pokémon series, would hit stores on September 27 that year. The Pokémon episodes were packaged in two separate packs containing two episodes each, and the four episodes available were “Pokémon, I Choose You!”, “Here Comes the Squirtle Squad”, “Beach Blank-Out Blastoise”, and “Go West Young Meowth”, all from season one. Because various Trophy Pokemon cards were given out at the event, the Tropical Wind iteration is incredibly unique. Pokemon Japanese Summer Battle Road Mew Victory Orb Trainer Card

The Battle Road Summer 2005 tournament spanned across nine different Japanese cities between July 10 and August 14, 2005.
As a prize, the top three competitors from each age division of the regional tournaments received one of these Victory Orb cards that feature Mew and the artwork of Takumi Akabane.
Previous Victory Orb cards from the Battle Road Summer tournaments in 2003 and 2004 did not feature Mew so many hobbyists believe this one to be an aesthetic upgrade.

A New Light Shines On Alola

The series covers a rookie Trainer from Pallet Town, Ash Ketchum, who begins his journey as a Trainer to become the most powerful Pokémon Master all of time.
