How To Evolve Into Espeon And Umbreon
The first time you want to get your hands on Espeon and Umbreon, you can use the name trick detailed above. Evolve an Eeevee called Tamao to get an Umbreon, or an Eevee named Sakura to evolve it into Espeon. After that, you’ll need to evolve them the old-fashioned way, by completing certain goals.
For Espeon and Umbreon, you can also evolve into them based on their in-game method of evolution in Pokemon Gold and Silver back on the Game Boy – based on the time of day. In order to do this, you’ll first need to build a relationship with your Eevee. Set them as your buddy Pokemon and walk with them as much as you can.
Once you’ve walked 10km with that Eevee as your buddy Pokemon, it’s ready to evolve into either Epseon or Umbreon. Just evolve in the day for Espeon and night for Umbreon – and this isn’t limited, you can do it as often as you like!
How To Get Hearts And Increase Your Buddy Level In Pokmon Go
There are a variety of daily interactions you can perform with your Buddy, each giving you hearts. Hearts can help you unlock the ‘excited’ mood for that day, as well as help you level up their Buddy level.

How To Walk With Your Buddy On The Map And Go On An Adventure In Pokmon Go
To earn hearts from your Buddy from certain activities – such as walking or battling together – they need to be visible on the map screen in ‘Adventure’ mode. They will then walk, fly or roll with you as you explore for a limited time.
To make them appear on the map screen, you have to make sure they are fully fed.
Feed your Buddy some Berries – three regular Berries will do – and their mood will increase, and you’ll be told they will have joined you on an Adventure.
They will join you on the map for around three hours, with a hunger gauge appearing around their icon next to the Trainer button in the bottom left corner.
Feel free to top that gauge up with Berries as you play, or just wait until it’s fully depleted before feeding them again.
Note if you switch between Buddies, their hunger meter will fully empty, so you’ll have to feed them again. While at this sounds frustrating, a benefit is you’ll be able to feed them again quicker if you switch back and forth, and earn some fast and easy Hearts.

How To Play With And Feed Your Buddy In Pokmon Go
Let’s start with the basics. To play with your Buddy in Pokémon Go, make sure you’re first Trainer Level 2 and have a Buddy assigned, then tap the Buddy icon in the lower left corner of the screen, next to your Trainer Profile.
Next, press the Play! button. Your phone camera will then activate. If you are in AR mode, you must find a flat surface. Point towards it until yellow footprints appear, then tap.
If it then says you are too close to your Buddy, back away a step or two, and it should appear.
If you’re struggling, remember you can disable AR mode in the Settings, so the Pokémon will simply appear on the screen.
With the Pokémon visible, you can play by rubbing it. You can also feed it by tapping the Berry icon.
Unlike during the catch phase where berries are simply tapped, on the Buddy screen they must be thrown like a Poké Ball to your Buddy’s mouth. You don’t lose your Berry if you miss however, so keep trying!
Once they are fully fed, they will join you on an Adventure, where they can start earning Hearts for that day…
Pokemon Go Eevee Community Day Perks
Aside from the usual increase in spawns and the higher rate of finding a Shiny, this weekends Pokemon Go Eevee Community Day event will give trainers even more perks. From Friday, August 13 at 1 p.m. EDT to Monday, August 16 at 1 p.m. EDT, when Eevee evolves into its many evolutions they will learn an exclusive move. Below are the Pokemon-exclusive moves that will be learned during Community Day:
- Vaporeon: Scald
- Sylveon: Psyshock
- Eevee caught or hatched during this time will know Last Resort.
Also, evolving Sylveon will be much easier during the two-day event. More information on Sylveons evolution method is below, but obtaining the Fairy-type will only require seven friendship hearts instead of the usual 70.

How To Rename Eevee To Evolve Into Sylveon Leafeon Glaceon Umbreon Espeon Vaporeon Jolteon And Flareon
Evolving Eevee using the required 25 Eevee candy will produce a random evolution. However, you can control which type it turns into by renaming the monster beforehand:
- Rename “Kira” to evolve into Fairy-type Sylveon
- Rename “Linnea” to evolve into Grass-type Leafeon
- Rename “Rea” to evolve into Ice-type Glaceon
- Rename “Sakura” to evolve into Psychic-type Espeon
- Rename “Tamao” to evolve into Dark-type Umbreon
- Rename “Rainer” to evolve into Water-type Vaporeon
- Rename “Sparky” to evolve into Electric-type Jolteon
- Rename “Pyro” to evolve into Fire-type Flareon
There are some caveats here. This only works one time per evolution, so if you plan to use your Eeveelution in battle, make sure you’ve chosen an Eevee with favourable stats. The naming trick is currently the only guaranteed way to evolve Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon – once you’ve done it once, it’ll be up to random chance if you get another, regardless of what you’ve named it.

Flareon is a Fire-type Eevee evolution, and is one of the original three Eeveelutions.
To evolve Eevee into Flareon, simply give it a Fire Stone.
You can find Fire Stones by the circle of rocks on the hill in the Lake of Outrage region of the Wild Area, and can also receive them as rewards from the Digging Duo in the Wild Area.

Alternate Eevee Evolution Methods For Leafeon Glaceon Umbreon And Espeon
Gen 4’s Leafeon and Glaceon have a second Eevee evolution method, by using the Mossy Lure or Glacial Lure respectively. When you’re in range of that PokéStop with the Lure enabled, go to your Eevee and choose the Evolution.
Meanwhile, Gen 2’s Umbreon and Espeon also have a second Eevee evolution method. Walk your Eevee as a Buddy for 10km, then evolve it either during the night or day and it’ll turn into the desired evolution.
Note you specifically need to walk 10k and earn two Candies in the process, then keep Eevee as your Buddy when evolving, and be either day or night during the game itself for it to work .
Since the naming trick only works once per evolution type, this appears to be a useful way to get a second Espeon or Umbreon with some reliability.
How To Get Glacial Lure Mossy Lure And Magnetic Lures In Pokmon Go
The only guaranteed way to get a Glacial Lure, Mossy Lure and Magnetic Lure is from purchasing them in the in-game shop for 200 Coins each.
These lures have also appeared as a one-time reward for certain questlines in the past, too, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for when they appear. For example, on the Rainy Lure’s debut, the final step of the coinciding Luminous Legends X event offered one as a reward.
It’s worth noting the use of Lures will appear in-game for all local players – so as long as another player has used one, you can reap the benefits.

The easiest way to evolve an Eevee into Umbreon in Pokemon GO is to use the name-trick method. However, a name-trick can only be used once to evolve a singular Eevee into an Umbreon. If a player hasn’t done this yet and wants to take advantage of this simple tactic, all they need to do is name their Eevee “Tamao”.
Once the desired Eevee has been named Tamao, and a trainer has enough species-candies, they will be able to evolve the Pokemon into Umbreon.
Fortunately for players that have already used the name-trick for Umbreon, there is another way to make the evolution happen. However, it is a bit of a process when compared to the first method.
First things first, players need to make the Eevee they want to evolve into Umbreon their buddy in Pokemon GO. Now, a trainer needs to walk 10km with the Eevee as their buddy. Umbreon is one of the many evolutions of Eevee. It was introduced in Generation II as one of the first Dark-types in the game. It also has an interesting means of obtaining much like Espeon but well get into that later. Thats because this is a guide on how to evolve Eevee into Umbreon.
It can be a bit tricky to get an Umbreon. It can also only be traded until Gen 2 so you cant get one for the Gen 1 games, which makes sense. Well also be including tips and information if you may want to get an Umbreon, so lets dive right into it.

Where To Catch Eevee In Pokmon Sword And Shield
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, you can find Eevee on Route 4. After you exit Galar Mine, youll come across some rolling fields that lead to Turffield. Eevee will appear randomly in the tall grass in this area.
Alternatively, head to the Wild Area and take part in some Max Raid Battles to get your hands on an Eevee. Jumping into battles in Bridge Field, East Lake Axewell, Motostoke Riverbank, or Rolling Fields could land you an Eevee. Defeat the powerful Dynamax Eevee using Fighting-type Pokémon and then throw your best ball to capture it. We find Dusk Balls or Ultra Balls work best on Dynamax Pokémon.

Eevee is a very special Pokémon in many ways but is also quite useful to have. Initially, the Pokémon came with three different evolutions when it debuted in Generation I, but as the franchise expanded, Eevee had gotten even more evolutions, starting with Generation II.
Umbreon, the main character of this article, has been induced in Generation II as one of the first Dark-type Pokémon to appear in the franchise, since Generation II introduced the Steel and Dark types.
As Pokémon Go was expanding its roster and started introducing Generation II Pokémon, Umbreon was introduced relatively quickly after the games debut and it utilized the then-new game mechanics introduced into the game.

How To Evolve Eevee Into Sylveon
While other Eeveelutions require walking a certain distance and evolving at a specific time of the day, Sylveon is all about friendship.
To get repeat Syvleons beyond the single-use naming method, you’ll have to get one as your buddy, and then accumulate 75 hearts with it. After that, the option should appear to evolve an additional Sylveon.
To get Sylveon as your buddy, you can take photos with it, play with it, feed it, spin new PokéStops all the usual shenanigans to earn hearts with a buddy, basically. You can earn a maximum of 20 hearts per day, so, in theory, you can evolve an Eevee into Sylveon in four days.
