The First Pokemon Game Ever – Pokemon fire Red Version

On December 30, 2000, the first feature-length special of the Pokémon anime was released in Japan as a sequel to Mewtwo Strikes Back, titled Mewtwo Returns. It was later released on DVD in the United States on December 5, 2001.

In June 2000, a manga series by Muneo Sait titled Pokémon Gold & Silver: The Golden Boys was published in Japan. This manga followed the plot of the Generation II games, before abruptly ending after three volumes with very little resolution. Another new manga series by Takashi Teshirogi based on the anime’s new seasons called Ash & Pikachu was published on February 26, 2001.

Another anime movie, Celebi: The Voice of the Forest, debuted in theaters in Japan on July 7, 2001, and in North America on October 25, 2002. It featured two Legendary Pokémon prominent in Pokémon Crystal: Celebi and Suicune.

The Pokémon Adventures manga finally caught up to the second generation on August 8, 2001, when Volume 8 was published in Japan, starting a new chapter. This chapter was much longer than the previous chapters of the series, lasting no less than 7 full volumes. Additionally, this is the only volume to share its release date with future volumes in Japanese, being that the twoafter it were published at the same time.

On July 13, 2002, the fifth and final movie of the original series, Pokémon Heroes: Latios & Latias, was released in Japanese theaters. Distributed on limited release by Miramax Films, it opened in select American theaters on May 16, 2003.

If youre looking for a little nostalgia, weve got some good news: all six installments of the original Pokémon Game Boy games are available to download on Virtual Console .

While there were only three Pokémon types back then , one major difference from todays games is that it was possible to catch all of the first generation of 151 Pokémon in one game.

The Unova region also gets its turn under the spotlight. Youll encounter different opponents, as well as a brand new Professor. In terms of difficulty, this game is aimed at the more experienced Pokémon players if you want to get ahead of the curve, theres also a demo available.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are a remake of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire , which were released on Game Boy Advance back in 2002. Youll recognize the mythical Pokémon Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza who are back to cause trouble.

The setting also makes a return youll be visiting the Hoenn region once again. Whether you start this adventure at level 5 or 50 , its definitely worth trying if you want something with plenty of nostalgia value!

Which Pokmon Anime Should You Watch First

Pokémon is one of Nintendos most successful franchises, but people around the world are divided on which Pokémon anime series is their favorite. Not only that, it can be difficult to know exactly where to start- there are so many different parts to the greater Pokémon universe!

This guide will help you figure out which part of the franchise youll like the most. If youre new to Pokémon, then this will help you get started!

To begin with, here are some key points of information about the games and anime series to keep in mind before starting:

There are multiple anime series. This includes the main series- Pokémon,Diamond & Pearl,Black & White, and XY- and the anime series based on the spin-off games: Pokémon Chronicles,Pokémon: Advanced, and Pokémon: Best Wishes. There are also movies, and Pikachu and Pichu shorts. This leads to a lot of choice in what you can watch!

The earlier Pokémon anime series are shorter than newer ones. Early episodes were only about 20 minutes long , and werent based on a specific game. There was also more filler content in these series, which resulted in fewer important plot points and battles.

As the anime series went on, this changed: battles became more frequent and had higher stakes characters explored different regions and the series was based on one generation of games.

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu And Let’s Go Eevee

The Pokemon Company

While this Pokemon game was technically the first to be released on the Nintendo Switch, it was not the first main series title. Instead, it was a showcasing of the Nintendo Switch’s features with a remake of the classic Kanto Region titles. For the purpose of this article, we don’t think the Let’s Go games classify as direct remakes of the Red, Blue, and Yellow iterations. Simply due to the fact that the mechanics within the game are far different from a standard Pokemon game.

Within the Let’s Go titles there’s a large emphasis on the Nintendo Switch’s motion controls and catching Pokemon. Taking elements from the popular mobile game Pokemon Go, you used your Joy-Cons to fire Pokeballs at Pokemon, and you essentially are forced to capture every Pokemon you see in the wild.

This was a fantastic game to showcase the Switch’s features, and fans enjoyed playing through the Kanto Region once more. Furthermore, the game is visually pleasing to most players. The fact that your lead Pokemon follows you throughout your journey is amazing. Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee is one of the simpler Pokemon games we’ve seen in recent memory, but it’s also one of the best in this department. It’s a casual experience that fans loved so much they’re looking forward to the potential announcement of a brand new Let’s Go announced featuring the Johto region.

Pokemon Red And Pokemon Green

  • Release Date: February 27, 1996
  • Platform: Game Boy

Pokemon Red and Green were the first games of the insanely popular series. The Red and Green versions were released on February 27, 1996, in Japan. The game was available in America in 1998 and in Europe in 1999, a whole three years later than the initial release date.

The game revolved around a young boy, controlled by the player, who set out on an epic adventure to become the greatest Pokemon trainer of all time.

Traveling through the original Kanto region, you captured Pokemons and earned 8 gym badges by defeating 8 unique trainers.

Pokemon Red and Green introduced popular characters including Brock, Misty, Prof. Oak, and the notorious Team Rocket, all of whom played a major role in the Anime adaptation.

The game was very well received at the time thanks to its unique features. The players controlled an over-the-head character which could be named anything.

The main objective of the game was to defeat the Elite 4 trainers.

The secondary objective was to complete the Pokédex, an in-game encyclopedia by catching all the 151 Pokemons from the first generation.

This objective served as the driving force behind the insanely popular catchphrase, Gotta Catch Em All!

A unique, never-before-seen feature of the game was trading, which allowed two users to trade Pokemons.

This particular feature propelled the sale of Game Boys as kids often persuaded their friends to buy a Game Boy just so to trade Pokemons with them.

Sword Dlc: Pokmon Sword Expansion Pass

With this pass, Pokémon Sword owners can explore two new locations within the Galar region: the Crown Tundra and the Armor Isle. The Crown Tundra is filled with legendary Pokémon from previous games, while the Armor Isle provides a new storyline and a new Pokémon for players to evolve. You do need the base game to play this DLC.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Brilliant Diamond and Shining PearlGeneration 4

Of all Pokémon starters, these 3 have to be my personal least favorite. The designs seemed to change drastically and Pokémon seemed to be designed to be less unique.

Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup brought the series to Generation 4, adding 107 additional Pokémon to the Pokédex and adding the new region of Sinnoh for you to explore.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were also the first of the main series to be released on the Nintendo DS.

The enhanced remakes Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be released on the Nintendo Switch in Late 2021.

Every Pokemon Games In Order

Pokemon Red Version The First Pokemon Game I Completed (Story)

Pokémon is the highest-grossing media franchise of all time. Satoshi Tajiri created the first games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, in 1996. A year later, studio OLM, Inc. turned the video-game series into anime.

Following its Japanese meaning , its only natural that the main Pokémon games are RPGs for portable consoles.

The main series follows young Pokémon trainers as they compete in tournaments, rise in ranks, and catch Pokémons. Meanwhile, trainers crush the plans of evil organizations like Team Rocket or Team Plasma.

Pokémon games are Nintendo exclusives. Game Freak studio creates the handheld games, whereas other studios like Niantic takes care of the console and smartphone spin-offs.

    Pokemon Black And White

Pokemon Black and White is a little bit of an odd duck in the main series. It often gets overshadowed by other entries thanks to its less memorable Pokemon designs, but its maturer tone and interesting plot still help it stand out in the line-up. As the only game to get a direct sequel with Black and White 2, the fifth generation of Pokemon puts more of an emphasis on its storytelling, and plays around with the concept of right and wrong. The antagonists in this one arent so clearly as nefarious as Team Rocket always seem to be with their tail cutting habits and treatment of Pokemon. Instead, Black and White features Team Plasma, a group that believe Pokemon should be allowed to roam free and not be tied down by a trainer. It throws up quite a compelling dilemma with no obvious cut and dry answers. This version also has some graphical enchantments over Diamond and Pearl, with more appealing sprite animations in battle.

All The Main Pokmon Games In Chronological Order

Were you there when it all started?

Designing a game is one thing, but creating a franchise and turning into an empire is another.

While it may be relatively easy to attract masses during the information age, it was a whole different world in the 90s. Pokémon first came out as an RPG for Nintendos Game Boy, and after a local launch in Japan, the attention surrounding the future third best-selling video game franchise started to increase.

The anime adaptation of the first titles allowed the Pokémon fever to cross continents. Alongside early adaptors, a chunk of the player base was introduced to the series through the anime series, which also shaped many fans childhoods.

The Pokémon franchises core titles were released in generations. This meant that each game had different Pokémon and characters. This evergoing cycle kept the masses coming for more while also increasing the Pokédexs size. Trainers naturally wanted to continue catching them all, and they were also hooked by the new storylines.

Theres no doubt that excellent developers took part in making each Pokémon game, but theres another factor that was key to the franchises success. Controlling the hype and enthusiasm around your franchise is another critical factor that makes or breaks series. Too much or too little of anything can easily reduce players interests, and Pokémon did it just right.

Here are all the Pokémon games from the core series in chronological order.

These games introduced 81 new Pokemon to catch, as well as the new powerful moves known as Z-moves. The games sold 16.25 million copies, slightly less than Pokemon X and Y versions also published on Nintendo 3DS.

Thankfully, with the advent of Pokemon FireRed& LeafGreen, this problem became a thing of the past. Now, gamers could enjoy the magic of the original games with all the modern nuances they’ve come to expect from a Pokemon title.

That’s right! The second generation of Pokemon games, which were released as solely Gold and Silver in 1999, is number 1 on our list. These games elevated all the core aspects of the original Pokemon games. They also added some unique features to this generation that made the games the best of all time.

For starters, generation two is when Shiny Pokemon, rare Pokemon that offered a different color scheme as opposed to their standard form, were officially introduced into the series. These Shiny Pokemon have captivated the Pokemon realm in recent years, and a large part of the player base will dedicate their time to hunting them.

Next, generation two was also one of the only Pokemon games to feature TWO Regions. Yes, if you haven’t played these games, you get to experience the ravish Johto region and partake in a brand new Pokemon game. You head back to the setting of the original games and take on all the gym battles and Elite 4 of the Kanto region. We haven’t seen any other Pokemon games really experiment with this concept, which is another reason fans love generation two. The game is essentially two Pokemon games in one. And that’s tough to beat!

Generation two also has some of the coolest Legendary Pokemon. Ho-Oh and Luigia feature some of the deepest yet outstanding lore. This is consistent with the Legendary Dog Pokemon. The Rival in these games has motifs that are unlike others in previous Pokemon games and ones to follow.

Most people consider Pokemon Black & White to be some of the greatest games of all time. Consequently, it goes without saying that the announcement of sequels to these games was met with positive reception across the board, turning Black 2& White 2 into the 15th highest-selling titles in the series.

Being the last 2D entries in the series with the 3D era of Pokemon games being widely polarizing with many hardcore fans these games are must-plays for any fan.

Pokemon Black And White And Pokemon Black And White 2

    The Pokemon Company

Perhaps one of the darker games in the Pokemon series, Pokemon Black and White, and Pokemon Black and White 2 was released in 2010. Similar to Sun and Moon, it received a mixed opinion when it initially released. This was due to multiple reasons. First, the story that was set in the Black and White region was one of the weaker ones we’ve seen in a Pokemon game. This was in large part due to Team Plasma, one of the less interesting villains. This is combined with the Unova region and the Pokemon that were introduced in this region. Similar to Sun and Moon, there were some highlights in this region. But, for the most part, they were lacking in comparison to some of the other games we’re going to dive into later in this article.

Moving on, Black and White unfortunately also suffered from being the first Pokemon game on the Nintendo 3DS. It was a revolutionary console in its own department, but it was clear at the time that the software was tricky to develop for Black and White. The game was highly anticipated, as it was coming off the tail end of the amazing Diamond and Pearl titles. Nevertheless, there’s still a good reason to check out Pokemon Black and White.

The game offers some unique battle animations with it being on the 3DS. And while the villains were lacking, the gym battles and the Elite 4 were above average in comparison. Do not slack on Black and White, even if it the last game on our Pokemon games ranked article.
