Friends are great, right? Well in the world of Pokemon GO, there are five levels of friendships that can be obtained, with each level offering better incentives when trading Pokemon with each other. In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to become Pokemon GO Lucky friends, which is the highest level of friends in the game. It has some pretty great incentives, but wont be easy to obtain. Heres how it all works.
Fastest: Battle In Raids And Gyms
The final way to increase your friend level quickly is to join together to battle in gyms and raids. Once per day, if you work together you can get a boost to your friend level with each person you are in a Raid or gym battle with. Of course, they have to be your friends to start with, so use your QR code to become friends before you battle.
Obviously, this only works with friends you are close to locally but it has the advantage that it works in bulk. If six or your friends are in a raid with you then all 6 of those friends will receive a boost to their friend level. This means you can work together en masse to reach Ultra friend status and get to battling remotely from the comfort of your couch.
How Do I Trigger Lucky Friends
How do you become Lucky Friends? Once you become Best Friends, you will have a chance to become Lucky Friends! You will have this chance once per day when you and your Best Friend trade Pokémon, open a Gift from each other, team up in raids and Gym battles, or challenge each other to a Trainer Battle.

How To Get Guaranteed Lucky Pokmon In Pokmon Go
In September 2018, developer Niantic made some changes to increase your chances of receiving Lucky Pokémon.
If you have discovered less than 10 Lucky Pokémon, then a Pokémon in your inventory caught in July or August 2016 will 100% become Lucky after a trade.
To clarify, if either trainer has had less than 10, then both creatures in the trade will be Lucky. So in theory, even if you have more than 10, if you can find others with less than 10, you can keep getting guaranteed Lucky Pokémon. Thanks to the Silph Road reddit for clarifying this!
It should also be noted as part of this change, all Lucky Pokémon stats have became now stronger. They were previously started from around the 10/10/10 mark, and it’s now increased to 12/12/12 .
Otherwise, the other method is being Lucky Friends with the player you are trading with.

Is A Lucky Pokmon Like A Shiny Or Is There Any Real Advantage
The Pokémon itself doesn’t have a different color, like Shiny Pokémon do, but they do have a special advantage:
It seems that Lucky Pokémon require less Stardust to power up, which means they can reach a higher CP much faster than other Pokémon. Plus, a Lucky Pokémon can be detected by the Pokédex, so you can keep track of them!
More precisely, it seems like Lucky Pokémon only require half the Stardust and Candy to power up as a regular Pokémon, making them much more efficient to power up.

What Are Lucky Pokmon In Pokmon Go
Lucky Pokémon is a special status, separate to Forms or Shinies, that Pokémon can have attached to them.
If a Pokémon is Lucky, then the Stardust required to power it up is reduced by 50%. The feature is particularly welcome as Stardust is one of the more scarce resources in the game, especially at high level play, allowing creatures to reach maximum CP at a lower cost.
Additionally, the number of Lucky Pokémon you have caught will appear in the Pokédex as well as the Pokémon stats screen, with a unique background:

Once you reach Lucky friend status with another player, youll be able to trade Pokemon for less Stardust and your first trade as Lucky friends will upgrade the Pokemon youre receiving to a Lucky Pokemon. If youre not familiar, Lucky Pokemon will require 50% less Stardust to power up, which will save you a lot in the long run.
In case you havent heard, Pokemon GO has added a new feature which will allow players to invite a friend to a raid, which will help level your friendship. After all, you know what they say, a raid a day keeps the doctor away – or something like that. Stardust Cost Reduction To Power Up
Its also important to recall that lucky Pokémon are also a great way to reduce the amount of stardustyou need to spend in order to power up a Pokémon. In fact, its split in half, which is very good news for trainers with less resources or newcomers.
You might think that IVs are overrated and so on, and perhaps youre right. Most Pokémon wont lose any particular breakpoint if they have an ATK IV of 14 or 13. All in all, its situational. However, for those trainers who want to power up the best Pokémon, getting a 13/12/14 out of a lucky trade would be a disappointment. Imagine that you spend 50 raid passes to get only one shiny Rayquaza, then it takes you around 60 interactions with a specific person to become Lucky Friends, and when you do the lucky trade you end up getting that 13/12/14 shiny Rayquaza. That would be a bit of a letdown, wouldnt it?

What Else You Need To Know About The Friends Feature In Pokmon Go
There are many quirks to the Friends feature you should know about:
- There is a Friends List cap of 400 in Pokémon Go up from 200 at launch which is more then enough to start building Friendship Levels with both close friends and several Raid groups.

The Silph Research Groups long-awaited article on the mechanics of Lucky Trades caused a stir when it reported trading Pokémon caught in July and August 2016 resulted in Lucky Pokémon in 75% of trades. Many travelers reported that the Silph Research Groups findings did not appear to match their observations. While it would be tempting to suspect reporting bias, the Research Groups datapoints were collected in a highly controlled setting. We suspected more was going on under the surface than met the eye.

What Is The New Pokemon Go Lucky Friends Feature
The patch notes for this latest version of Pokemon Go read as follows: “Trainers who are Best Friends will have a chance of becoming Lucky Friends.” So – what does this mean?
In Pokemon Go, friendship isn’t just a simple list of players you’ve added – it’s a changing, growing list, with different levels of friendship depending on how much time you’ve spent doing things with another player. By sending gifts, playing through Pokemon raid encounter battles and trading Pokemon, players can ‘level up’ their friendship, with the top tier being ‘Best Friends’.
Lucky Friends are basically a temporary buff to your friendship status. Once you’re best friends with someone, you’ll have a chance to be temporarily made each other’s ‘special friend’ each time you perform a friendship-based act with them. That means each time you trade Pokemon, open gifts from each other, team up in raid battles or gym encounters, or even have a one-on-one trainer battle. Each time will give you a chance this will happen, and when it does Pokemon Go will make a big song and dance about it, notifying you that you’re now lucky friends.
Once you are Lucky Friends, the buff is simple: the first trade you make with that player is guaranteed to create a Lucky Pokemon. Lucky Pokemon are buffed Pokemon that have cheaper stat upgrades and generally better performance across the board, so this is well worthwhile.

How Do Lucky Pokmon Work
Essentially, a lucky Pokémon is easier to power up. Each time you power up a Pokémon, you need to use stardust and candy. A lucky Pokémons stardust requirement is reduced by 50% permanently, making it much easier to make them stronger as you use them. Its a complicated process using a Pokémon with ideal stats and having them become lucky. Whenever you trade a Pokémon to another trainer, their stats change. Theres a chance a perfectly suitable PvP Pokémon becomes nothing more than Pokédex filler in the event of a trade, even if they become lucky.
Theres a lot of random chance that goes into using lucky Pokémon. You dont want to hedge all of your Pokémon Go Battle League Pokémon into becoming lucky, but if happens and the Pokémon has great stats, it makes your life a lot easier.
How The Guarantee Actually Works
A piece of the puzzle was missing. Now, thanks to a series of carefully controlled experiments conducted by Silph Research Group Scientists, as well as Lead and Senior Researchers, we can report that at this time1 the actual mechanism for guaranteed Lucky Trades involving a July-August 2016 Pokémon appears to be:
All July-Aug 2016 Pokémon are guaranteed Lucky if the sender has been in fewer than 10 trades where at least one party was guaranteed.
At first, this may seem like a subtle distinction, but it means that not all Lucky trades are created equal. Lucky trades that were not guaranteed before the total is met do not appear to count towards the 10 guaranteed allotment.
Ignorance of this previously-unknown distinction meant many of the data points previously believed non-guaranteed were in fact guaranteed!

Can Lucky Friends Trade From A Distance
This allows you to trade with practically any Trainer as long as you are 100 meters or less from one another, adding onto that comes Lucky Pokémon which you are randomly granted through Trading, and then to round it all off you now even have the chance to reach Lucky Friends status which guarantees your very next trade
Pokemon Go Lucky Friends: How To Make Lucky Friends For Pokemon Buffs
The benefits of being Pokemon Go friends just increased somewhat – a new feature called Lucky Friends has arrived.
As ever with Pokemon Go, patches and changes to the game often sort of drop out of nowhere – and today a new update is being rolled out to Pokemon Go players – version 0.139.2 on Android and 1.107.2 on iOS. While the changes made in the patch aren’t updated in the game until developer Niantic chooses to push them to players, this time around the patch notes suggest an all-new feature is incoming: Lucky Friends.

How To Become Lucky Friends In Pokmon Go
Once youre Best Friends with another player, anything that would normally raise your friendship levels has a chance to turn you both into Lucky Friends. This means that your next trade with that player will turn both traded Pokémon into Lucky Pokémon.
While Niantic hasnt announced the Lucky Friends chance, some researchers on The Silph Road subredditnote that the Lucky Friends odds is a little bit below 2% per exchange.
Lucky Pokémon have their Stardust required to power up cut in half, so its pretty nice to have one of your powerful Pokémon Lucky, since itll cut down on the required resources.. But beware individual values or IVs shift around quite a bit when you trade them, so the high IV Kyogre you might want to swap with your Lucky Friend may end up being a little weaker than before. That said, Lucky Pokémon are guaranteed to have at least 12 in all three main stats, which means an 80% IV or higher.

What Are Lucky Pokemon In Pokemon Go
So what are lucky Pokemon? They’re similar but different to shiny Pokemon while shiny Pokemon look different, lucky Pokemon are identified by gold circles around the Pokemon on the list view. When you click on them, the background is gold and sparkly, compared to the usual type-specific background.
When you have a lucky Pokemon, you get a couple of benefits. The first is that the stardust cost to power it up is reduced by 50%, so if you have a strong PvP Pokemon that becomes lucky, you’re in luck. Pun intended.
The other possible benefit is that a lucky Pokemon’s IV will always be a minimum of 12/12/12. This means that you could trade a 0 IV Pokemon and potentially gain a 100 IV Pokemon in return. On the contrary, you’re risking a lot if you trade a 98 IV Pokemon, because there’s a high chance it will come out with lower stats than it went in with.
