Ditto Divides Pokemon Go Players
During the Pokemon Go x TCG event, there are six collection challenges players can complete that are themed around the cards in the new TCG expansion. However, a few of the Pokemon in the challenges fall into the group that can secretly be a Ditto.
Attempting to finish a challenge but being met with this purple blob instead has made several players frustrated. A Reddit post from user ty-read-it expresses the anguish of finding a Ditto instead of the desired Pokemon, and plenty of users took to the comments to agree.
Ive never been so disappointed finding so many dittos, one user . Another stated, Three Numels in a row yesterday turned into dittos
But there have also been a ton of players who are happy to see so many Ditto. Some players have been waiting months to find a Ditto to complete tasks while others claim Every ditto surprise brings me joy.
There are even the lucky few who have reported finding a Shiny Ditto after catching a Bidoof, Spinarak, or Numel. A few players have argued that finding a Shiny is a much better reward than completing a collection challenge.
The TCG crossover event lasts until June 30, so theres plenty of time for trainers to complete their challenges .
Field Research Quests For Ditto
Now this would absolutely be the easiest and best way to catch them if you are lucky enough to need a Ditto while one of these quests is going on. In the past, there have been Field Research quests that have rewarded Dittos. One in particular required that you make one excellent throw. This quest rewarded you with an encounter against a Pidgey that just happened to be a Ditto. Now, these quests change every month, so you’ll just need to keep an eye out for information on them. Every few months, Niantic updates the Pokémon that Ditto can hide as in Pokémon GO. Here are Ditto’s current Pokémon GO disguises as of July 2022.
Players trying to catch Ditto in Pokémon GO will have to look a little harder, as the shape-shifting Pokémon has been updated with many new disguises in the mobile game. In June, Niantic celebrated its upcoming collaboration with the Pokémon Trading Card Game with the launch of the Pokémon GO TCG crossover event. Because Ditto is heavily featured in the July Pokémon card crossover, the special TCG-themed celebration featured the much-anticipated refresh update for Ditto’s new disguises in Pokémon GO.
When Pokémon GO originally made its debut in July 2016, Ditto was the only non-legendary Kanto Pokémon that was missing from the game’s launch. The Normal-type was eventually added four months later and released with the unique transform mechanic which allowed it to disguise itself as other wild Pokémon on the map. Adding to the challenge of tracking down the Gen 1 Pokémon, Niantic updates Ditto’s Pokémon GO disguises every few months.

Almost like everyone else, I was stuck with two separate researchs requiring me to catch a ditto, and Ive been catching every single pokemon I come into contact with even if they werent in the list just in case and I was at a standstill until the Johto research became available, and that went by quick but just recently i bought my prof willow card on eBay for 2$ , entered in the code , and not only did I get a whole new chapter of research, but when I finished it , there was a ditto at the end !!!!! So now Ive been able to move on with my other research chapters!! I was super excited!!
Even tho it kinda sucks to have to spend money just to get past a chapter but for the ones who can spare a few dollars, its not a bad investment lol

For one day only Pokémon GO threw out all the rules for catching ditto on .
Mischievous Pokémon were causing more trouble than usual in the game and on Thursday, April 1, 2021, Pokémon “prone to mischief” were appearing more often in the wild. The problem is, some of them were Ditto in disguise.
The Pokémon ‘prone to mischief’ included Aipom, Croagunk, and Purrloin.
Following the event, Purrloin stuck around and was added to the Ditto Disguises list. It goes to show, you always want to check back to make sure you know which Pokémon Ditto is disguising itself as.

Pokmon Go Shiny Ditto Special Research
The Pokémon GO: Kanto Tour event introduced every Generation I shiny form in the game, including Ditto. For anyone that purchased the ticket for the event, there is special research that can be completed for a guaranteed shiny Ditto.

Ditto is one of the most interesting Pokémon you can come across in Pokémon Go. The fact that you will go into a session thinking you are trying to catch a different Pokémon only for it to transform into the purple blob Pokémon is so unlike any other encounter in the game. That being said, is there much of a use for Ditto in the battle scene?
While Ditto can transform itself into any Pokémon it comes across, it is much better as a collectors item than a battling Pokémon. As is common for the Pokémon in the mainline games, Ditto will transform into whatever Pokémon it is facing when it comes out. It will learn all that Pokémons moves and become that Pokémons type until the battle ends or the Ditto faints.
The problem with Ditto is that even though it transforms into the Pokémon it is facing and learns their moves, it maintains its own HP. When you catch a Ditto in Pokémon Go, it will have low stats compared to anything you see in Gym Battles and the higher tiered Raids, so it is nice to get the boost when it transforms, but its health will be too low to do anything substantial. Ditto being so rare to catch as well makes it nearly impossible to upgrade it enough with candies to make it worth the hassle. This makes Ditto only viable for learning your opponents move set if that is something you are worried about, but at that point, you are wasting a spot on your team of six.
Which Pokemon Can Be Ditto In Pokemon Go
The pool of Pokemon Ditto can transform into changes every so often and with the Season of Mischief, the list of mon has been adjusted. Many of these Pokemon are common like Gastly and Drowzee especially with the new season putting an emphasis on Ghost and Psychic types they will appear more frequently in the wild.
