Pokmon Snap Best Photo Contest Cards

I Bought some VERY EXPENSIVE HYPER RARE Pokemon Cards!

The series of Pokémon Snap Photo Contest Cards covered here originated from the Pokémon Snap Nintendo 64 game. Created as a promotional contest in support of the N64 video game, players were encouraged to take snapshots of the actual game. Judges evaluated the photos, and the winners that were chosen had their work printed on special cards that acknowledged them as the card’s artist. In the end, very few of these cards were ever made making landing them on our list of the rarest Pokémon cards of all time.

What’s it worth? In circulation, some of these cards have sold for over $8,000 with the Gyarados card being one of the more sought-after examples. Here, we’re celebrating one of the cards from the series featuring the lovable Pikachu.

Pokmon Blastoise #009/165r Commissioned Presentation Galaxy Star Hologram

A two-of-a-kind card that suddenly became one of the most valuable Pokémon cards of all time

Sold for $360,000 in January 2021

One of only two such Pokémon cards in existence – making it extremely rare – this Blastoise suddenly became one of the most valuable Pokémon cards of all time after it sold at auction in January 2021 for a whopping $360,000 .

The ultra-rare Pokémon card was created in 1998 as a presentation piece by Magic: The Gathering maker Wizards of the Coast to convince Nintendo of Japan executives to allow it to handle the TCGs English-language release. The game would eventually make its international debut one year later in 1999.

While two Blastoise Presentation cards were produced, this is the only one that has been seen publicly. Even more impressively, it has been graded at a NM/Mint+ 8.5 level by certification website CGC, meaning that the 20-plus-year-old card is in near-perfect condition. The location and state of the other Presentation card remains unknown – meaning that this may well be the only such card of its type left.

Th Anniversary Gold Pikachu

Nothing screams expensive like a flash of gold. And in this case, gold beats old. The gold Pikachu card isnt an aged specimen originating in the early days of the trading card game, before the names Squirtle and Bulbasaur took the world by storm, but appeared in 2018, to mark the 20th anniversary of the Pokémon TCG.

To grab the card on release, would-be buyers had to enter a lottery

Made of 11 grammes of solid 24-karat gold, the card is a replica of the original Japanese Pikachu cards design, featuring a distinctly more rotund yellow mouse. To grab the card on release, would-be buyers had to enter a lottery, with winners given the chance to buy the limited edition card for a cool ¥216,000 / $2,000 / £1,700. But since then, its value has risen, selling for close to $8,000 / £5,750 in 2019.

Although not legal in tournament play, the card came with a handy glass frame, so you could store the artefact, while helpfully displaying it to any visitors that you deem worthy. Youd probably have to explain why spending nearly two grand on a single, unusable card was a good financial decision, though.

Holographic Shadowless Venusaur: $3260

Just like its Kanto starter counterpart Charizard, Venusaur’s Shadowless, holographic, first edition version is a coveted card among Pokemon fans. It doesn’t quite reach the heights of Charizard’s $500,000, but Venusaur always was slightly less popular compared to the other Kanto starters anyway.

Nonetheless, these cards were rare even in their original late-1990s heyday, so you can imagine how sought-after they are now. Buying one through Troll and Toad right now can cost you as little $390, but the compilation site Pokemon Prices has records of them selling up to $3260.

Holographic Shadowless Charizard: $500000

Pokemon Sun Moon Sun Moon Base Set Single Card Hyper Rare ...

There are a lot of factors that make the Holographic Shadowless First Edition Charizard card worth so much compared to any other Charizard card. Firstly, it’s a first edition version of the undoubtedly most popular Kanto starter, which already makes it extra valuable to most pokemon fans. Alongside this, the card is also shadowless, which essentially means the card lacks a shadow between the box containing the image of the Pokemon, and the rest of the card.

This “Shadowless” effect is not a misprint or a mistake. It’s actually the original Pokemon card design, as the foiling process has changed and provided a different look to modern holographic and foil cards. These Charizard cards have become one of the prime reasons for the Pokemon Card trend of the past two years, with YouTuber Logan Paul opening one as recently as February 2021 that was estimated by auction site owner Ken Goldin to sell for upwards of $500,000.

What Is Special About Tropical Wind

This card formed part of the Pokemon Tropical Mega Battle tournament held every year between 1999 to 2001 in Hawaii. This was a huge tournament that took the best players from Canada, Europe, Japan and America and put them head to head.

Only 50 players attended the event every year, , and the finalists of those tournaments received a rare card. In 2001, the Tropical Wind card became the prize, and now its one of the rarest Pokemon cards ever.

Champions received many other Tropical Mega Battle Cards as did many other competitors, but the 2001 Tropical Wind remains the rarest. Theres nothing special about it in reality apart from the nice artwork, which influenced many tournament cards in the coming years.

Many of these looked near-identical to it with minor changes such as new Pokemon and different locations. Still, the one thing that stays the same throughout all of the Mega Battle Cards is Psyduck himself.

Value Of Collectible Trading Cards Has Soared In Recent Years With The Most Expensive Sold For 45000

Pokemon began in 1995, the creation of Satoshi Tajiri, who dreamt up a Nintendo video game series in which;fictional creatures are trained by humans to battle each other.

Pokmon Raichu Card #14/102

The card was originally printed to showcase the then-upcoming Jungle set. Though shrouded in mystery, most believe that a sheet of 121 cards was printed, and 100 of those were destroyed leaving just 21 in the wild. Many feel that the current number is closer to 11. Originally issued to Wizards of the Coast employees at the time, these rare Pokémon cards were not supposed to make it onto the collector market. We see how well that plan worked out.

What’s it worth? While a first edition of the general release Raichu card can fetch upwards of $800, the “prerelease” version of this card is so exceptionally rare that there are no recent sales to cite as examples of its value.

Tamamushi University Magikarp: $50000

The Tamamushi University Magikarp card is so rare that despite the fact that it depicts a frankly awful Pokemon, it’s worth ridiculous sums of money. Why the high price? Well, the University Magikarp was a promotional card that saw very limited distribution at a Japanese tournament in the late 1990s.

In total, 1000 of the cards were produced but far fewer were actually awarded and many were just stowed away forever. Barely any of these rare Magikarp cards are still in circulation today, and its incredibly rare to see new ones show up. At the moment, PSA Cards Price Guide chart lists perfectly-preserved cards to have sold for around $50,000, while copies with NM-MT 8 ratings still sell for amazing heights of $12,000.

Is Hyper Rare/ Rainbow Rare Harder To Get Than Secret Rare

I noticed that most Sr are Trainers/ items , and rainbow rare Pokémon cost alot more than SR .. are they harder to get despite SR sounding like it is rarer ?

They are both technically the same rarity in terms of chances to pull them I believe, but collectors seem to prefer the Rainbow Rares over the secret rare items, thus generally higher prices. The prices of secret rare trainers are always based on their playability in the game and not so much their collector value.

In the early 2000s, around 50 players from Japan, America, and Europe would gather to take part in a Pokémon Trading Card game held in Hawaii. It was then replaced by World Championships, which had more players competing and bigger prizes.

These cards were distributed to the participants of the Tropical Mega Battle 2001 to mark the end of the event. Around 12 of them are in existence; they can be valued at anywhere between $5,000 to $10,000. That said, the card has to be in mint condition.

Tropical Mega Battle Trainer Number 1 Card

Like the Secret Super Battle cards above, the Tropical Mega Battle cards were awarded to elementary school student winners and this competition welcomed kids up to third grade. Here, the card featured an Exeggutor and the event’s logo with artwork by Ken Sugimori and Hiromi Ito.

What’s it worth? This card makes our list of rarest Pokemon cards simply because of the age of its recipients and the commonly held belief that fewer of these cards still exist. Its rarity makes its value nearly priceless, but a high-grade example of another Tropical Mega Battle card sold for $50,300 via eBay in October 2020. This makes us confident that the Tropical Mega Battle Trainer Number 1 card would command a similar price point in such condition.

Pokemon Snap Trainer Magazine Pikachu: $900

If you were a Pokemon fan back in the days of the Nintendo 64 console, you might just remember the classic spin-off game Pokemon Snap. The object of this Pokemon spin-off was to snap creative in-game photos of various creatures, and there were several tie-in cards in Japans Pokemon Trainer Magazine to help increase the hype among fans to try this new game.

This card was a Pikachu card with the model from Pokemon Snap as the art, making for a relatively hilarious-looking card that only could be found within this magazine in 1999. Miyabihobby has a record of an unopened magazine being sold for 100,000, or about $900 USD, but PSA Card has records of auctions ranging between $300 and $1000 for perfect condition grades.
