Protect Shields Charged Attacks And Switching

There’s more to Pokémon GO Trainer Battles than tappingattacks and hoping your Pokémon end up on top. Assembling a strong team is agood start, but you’ll need to outperform your opponent in battle to win. Youhave three main tools to manipulate the outcome of a battleProtect Shields,Charged Attacks, and switching Pokémon.

You’ll have only a limited number of Protect Shields to usein a Trainer Battle, and how you use them will have a huge impact on whetheryou win or lose. Protect Shields can block your opponent’s Charged Attacks, butyou won’t have enough to defend all your Pokémon. Be smart about when you useProtect Shieldsif your active Pokémon is already about to be knocked out, orif it’s healthy and resists your opponent’s Charged Attacks, you probably don’tneed to use a Protect Shield. But if your active Pokémon is vital to defeatingthe rest of your opponent’s team, you should defend it with a Protect Shield.

On offense, you’ll want to force your opponent to use theirProtect Shields as quickly as you can to remove their ability to defend. Lineup Charged Attacks that are sure to deal huge damage. Try to maintain matchupswhere you’ll be able to use a supereffective Charged Attackor at least onethat matches your Pokémon’s type and isn’t resisted by the opponent’s type.

Great Ultra Or Master League In The Pokmon Go Battle League

The Go Battle League is divided into three different Leagues: Great, Ultra, and Master League. These are set up the same as Trainer battles and Team Leader Training before with CP caps:

  • The Great allows for Pokémon up to 1,500 CP and will run April 12-26. The Great League Remix runs concurrently but doesn’t allow the 10 most used Pokémon in the Great League.
  • The Ultra League allows for Pokémon up to 2,500 CP and will run April 26 through May 10.
  • The Master League has no CP limits and will run May 17-24.
  • All three Leagues will run from May 17-24.

Each League is featured separately before rotating to the next League. This means you can usually only participate in one League at a time, but you have the opportunity to participate in all three Leagues. However, all three leagues are also available during a final week, in which players can choose any league they wish to battle.

Pokmon Go Battle League Rank Requirements

Pokémon GO Battle League

Go Battle League has you progress through 24 Ranks per Season. This number was increased from 10 on November 30th 2020, alongside the release of Season 6 of the Go Battle League and the Season of Celebrations.

Each Rank requires a different objective for you to progress, and each one also has it’s own set of rewards.

From Season 6 onwards, you’ll need to participate and win a number of battles to progress from Rank 1 to Rank 20.

Certain ranks will be easier to overcome than others, because they will only require you to complete one set of battles to progress. This means that, even if you only win one battle out of five, you’ll still progress to the next rank.

The Ranks that only require you to complete one battle set are – Rank 5, Rank 10, Rank 15 and Rank 19.

If you wish to climb from Rank 21 to Rank 24, however, you need to obtain a certain rating by remaining undefeated for a certain number of matches.

Each Rank from 21 to 24 also has it’s own specific title – Ace, Veteran, Expert and Legend – which not only helps you identify which rating you need to achieve, but gives you some good bragging rights too.

Below you can find which title has been assigned to each rank, alongside the rating you’ll need to progress to that specific rank:

  • Rank 21 – Ace – 2,000 rating
  • Rank 22 – Veteran – 2,500 rating
  • Rank 23 – Expert – 2,750 rating
  • Rank 24 – Legend – 3,000 rating

Using The Pokemon Rankings

In the top-level rankings, you’ll see a score for each Pokemon. This score is an overall performance number from 0 to 100, where 100 is the best Pokemon in that league and category. It is derived from simulating every possible matchup, with each Pokemon’s most used moveset . Use this score to compare overall performance between Pokemon; for example, the difference between the #1 and #50 Pokemon may not be the same as the difference between the #50 and #100 Pokemon. This score also allows you to see the parity in different leagues and categories.

Trainer Battles feature a wide variety of scenarios, especially involving shields. In order to give a fuller picture, our overall rankings are derived from additional sets of rankings, where battles are simulated with different roles in mind. You can explore rankings for each of the following categories:

Different Pokemon may succeed in different scenarios, so use these categories to help determine when a particular Pokemon would be the most valuable.

Within each ranking, you’ll see four separate detail sections:

  • Fast Moves – Which Fast Moves the Pokemon uses most in the league and category.
  • Charged Moves – Which Charged Moves the Pokemon uses most in the league and category.
  • Key Wins – Which battles the Pokemon performs best in, weighed by the opponent’s overall score.
  • Key Counters – Which significant opponents perform best against the Pokemon.

Choose Supporting Pokemon For Main Type

After choosing your main Pokemon, you’ll need to pick supporting Pokemon that will be good against Pokemon your main one is weak against. In this case, Alolan Muk is strong against Fairy Types, which Altaria is weak to.

Compensate For Each Pokemon’s Weakness

Choose Pokemon that complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses, to make sure all points are covered. It’s best to supplement your main Pokemon’s weakness with another Pokemon that is strong against that specific type.

Players can begin a Trainer Battle through opening their Main Menu and selecting the Battle part of the app. Trainers should then scroll down to Nearby Battle, which will let players scan another person’s QR code.

After scanning your opponent’s QR code, players can then select Great, Ultra, or Master League. Pokemon GO users can also select a team from of their pre-chosen teams or create a new Battle team.

Tap As Fast As You Can

The Fast Attack is going to be your best friend in a battle. Tapping the screen will make your Pokémon attack the other using their Fast Attack, and it’ll power up their Charged Attack. Tapping rapidly means more damage and your Pokémon’s Charged Attack powering up faster so it can be used.

People often make the mistake of thinking damage taken is what’s powering up the Charged Attack, but it’s not.

How To Battle In Pokmon Gos Great League

The newest Special Research storyline in Pokémon GO, A Seven-Colored Shadow, has a particular challenge for its third step: earning a Charge TM by battling another Trainer in the Great League. Because its the lowest rung, the Great League is sometimes forgotten by enthusiasts for the game, but if you want to finish that storyline, youre gonna have to downsize a bit. Heres how to battle in Pokémon GOs Great League.

Unlike the Master League, where you can use any Pokémon you want regardless of their CP, the Great League has a hard cap of 1,500 CP on all entered Pokémon. In theory, this is to keep the League low-level and make it easier for newer players to take the games PvP features for a spin. If youre a seasoned player, though, it becomes something of a puzzle: whats the strongest team of Pokémon you can employ without going over the limit? Solving that puzzle is the key to victory in the Great League. Technically, you dont actually have to win to earn the Charge TM for the storyline, but hey, if were gonna do this, were going all the way with it.

Pokemon Go: Top 5 Pokemon Picks For Great League By Role

When it comes to picking top options in Pokemon GO’s Great League, it’s important to know which role they perform well. A Pokemon that performs well as an offensive attacker may not be able to hold its ground without shields, which obviously plays into a strategy when team building.

In Pokemon GO PvP, Pokemon can be categorized into certain roles, such as:

  • Leads – Pokemon who perform well at a battle’s outset. These Pokemon typically have enough stamina to drag out a fight while also dealing solid damage.
  • Closers – The reverse of Leads, Closers are Pokemon who drag out the back end of a fight and attempt to take down what’s left of the opponent’s team. Typically these Pokemon sport great defensive stats and can survive without assistance from shields.
  • Switches – If a player ends up in a bad matchup, that’s where Switches come in. Switches are utility Pokemon that can make up for lost ground in a battle when a Lead ends up in a bad situation.
  • Chargers – Charge Moves are vital to dealing damage in Pokemon GO, and Chargers can stockpile energy quickly and use their Charge Moves to powerful effect.
  • Attackers – These Pokemon don’t merely deal high damage, but also ramp up significant pressure on opponents to use their shields. Some perform so well in shield pressure that they can get by without shield assistance themselves.

With these facets in mind, here are some great role-based picks for Pokemon GO’s Great League in Season 8 :
