HOW TO USE GO SNAPSHOT FOR POKÉMON GO!

This new requirement is being added as part of the New Pokémon Snap Celebration event in GO. Your job is to document all the species in the area, taking their photo as you are carted along through the environemnt. And thats why you have to take these snapshots of wild Pokémon, instead of the usual method in your collection.

To do it just follow these steps.

  • Find the wild Pokémon you want to take a snapshot of
  • Tap on them on the overworld map
  • Once the encounter loads tap the camera icon at the top of the screen
  • Tap the shutter button at the bottom to take a snapshot

Whether the task asks you to take a snapshot of a wild Pokémon or a specific species in the wild you should complete the task and be able to collect the reward. Of course, some require specific species, so make sure youre watching for those, and we may craft some guides for the tougher ones out there. Once you find what youre looking for just follow the steps above and you should be all set.

But now you know how to take a snapshot of a Pokémon in the wild in Pokémon GO, so good luck.

How To Open The Pokmon Go Snapshot Feature And Get Smeargle

First, you need to take pictures with Pokémon Go’s Snapshot feature. This allows you to place any of your caught Pokémon in the real world using your camera.

There are two ways to access this mode. One is in your item inventory – scroll down to the Camera, then select it, followed by a Pokémon of your choice. Alternatively, enter your Pokémon box and select the Camera icon in the upper right corner.

Your camera will then be active, and you’ll presented with a view of in front of your phone with the Pokémon laid over the top. Position the Pokémon however you like in the world – it doesn’t have to line up with anything – and snap away.

If you have AR+ on your phone, then turning that off will make it more likely Smeargle will appear.

When you’ve taken enough, exit the mode with the door icon in the upper left corner.

This will present you with the photos you have just taken. It’s at this stage that Smeargle can appear.

If it does, it’ll appear in the bottom corner, as if photobombing the scene, and the game will pause to highlight its presence. Now when you back out of the mode, Smeargle will appear in the wild. Tap it, then catch it like any other creature.

If Smeargle does not appear, then you must reopen the Snapshot mode and try again until it does.

To our knowledge the Pokémon you use and the amount of photos you take doesn’t influence when Smeargle will appear, so take as many or as few photos at a time before backing out of the mode and cycling through your snaps.

Pokemon Go: How To Fix The Snapshot Bug On Android

Follow these steps to start earning Buddy hearts again.

Back in August, Pokemon Go players using iOS devices ran into a nasty bug that prevented them from being able to earn Buddy Hearts or complete Research Tasks that required them to take Snapshots of Pokemon.

While that issue was eventually fixed in September, a similar bug is now being encountered by Pokemon Go players with certain Android devices.

This bug is preventing affected Android users from earning Buddy Hearts and completing Research Tasks that require them to take Snapshots of Pokemon. While the game will technically allow players to take pictures of Pokemon, it isnt properly rewarding them for doing so.

Thankfully, a workaround has been shared by user krmtdfrog on The Silph Road subreddit.

This workaround requires you to turn off the games permission to store files on your device. To do this, youll need to go into your devices Settings menu and find Pokemon Go in the Apps section of the Settings menu.

From there, youll need to turn off the game’s Files and media permission.

We experienced this Snapshot bug on a Google Pixel 3a, and this workaround fixed the problem for us. Other users on The Silph Road subreddit are also reporting success after completing these steps.

Other Methods To Get To The Pokemon Go Snapshot Screen

How to take a screenshot in Pokémon Go

There are a couple of other quick methods for taking Pokemon GO snapshots.

Players are brought to the stats screen any time a Pokemon is caught. From there, the same photo symbol can easily be tapped to take a snapshot.

There is also a Pokemon GO snapshot camera in the items bag that can simply be tapped. It will bring players to the Pokemon menu or inventory, and a Pokemon can be selected from there. It’s a longer process than the base method.

While some players may just want a Pokemon GO snapshot for their photo library, they are also useful in the game. For many field research tasks, players have to get snapshots of specific Pokemon or types.

How To Get Smeargle And Other Creatures With Photobombs In Pokmon Go

Catching Smeargle – or other time-limited photobombing Pokémon – centres around getting a photobomb from them in the Snapshot feature, and in brief, involves the following steps:

  • Open the Snapshot mode with any Pokémon in your collection or set as a Buddy
  • Take pictures of the Pokémon – you can turn off AR+ to make this step easier
  • Exit Snapshot mode, where you review the images you have just taken
  • At this point, Smeargle – or for a limited time Detective Pikachu – may appear in one of your photos
  • If Smeargle does appear, it will spawn in the wild on the map screen, to be caught like any other Pokémon
  • If Smeargle does not appear, repeat the above steps

How To Take A Snapshot In Pokemon Go

Regardless of why you want to take a snapshot – be it for fun, to fulfill a mission, or just out of experimental curiosity, the method by which you’ll be doing so is the same. It’ll very slightly depending on if you’re talking about a Wild Pokemon or a Pokemon you’ve already caught.

Regardless, the first thing to do is either enter the wild Pokemon encounter or bring up the menu for the caught Pokemon you want to take a snapshot of. That menu looks like this:

What you’re after here is honestly nice and simple – to take a snapshot, just look for the camera icon. When trying to take a snapshot of a wild Pokemon, this’ll be slap bang in the middle of the screen, as you can see on the left. For Pokemon you’ve already caught, open them up in your Pokemon list and find the camera button on the right-hand side of the screen, just to the right of the CP measurement bar and underneath the favourite button.

You can take photos either in Augmented Reality or just in Pokemon Go’s default backgrounds – though really, unless you’re just taking a photo for the utilitarian reason of snapping one for a mission, you’ll probably want to turn the augmented reality mode on. For that, there’s one additional step.

The camera will switch on, and the game will ask you to pan your phone or other device around so it can read the area around you. Do that, and you’ll eventually notice the following:

How To Take A Pokemon Go Snapshot

Pokemon GO is all about “catching them all” in a real-world setting, and part of that experience involves seeing a Pokemon through the lens of a phone or a Pokemon GO snapshot. Whether it’s for a challenge or simply to get the Pokemon GO snapshot, getting a photo of a Pokemon is pretty easy.

There are a couple of different routes that players can take in order to get a snapshot of a Pokemon in Pokemon GO.

The easiest way to get a snapshot is for players to simply go to the Pokemon menu or inventory and select a Pokemon that they would like a Pokemon GO snapshot of. Once players have selected the Pokemon that they want a photo of, they should look towards the top right of the screen, right under the favorite star.

A camera icon should be located there, and players just need to tap on the icon. This will bring players to a screen where a Pokemon GO snapshot can be taken. If players have the Niantic AR activated, they will be prompted to look around the room with a camera and find a flat surface. It’s a more complicated step when compared to turning the AR mode off.

If the AR mode is turned off, all players need to do is click the photo symbol at the bottom of the screen and get as many Pokemon GO snapshots as they would like.

The rare Pokémon Smeargle will occasionally, unexpectedly appear in your photos. To know if Smeargle photobombed you, look at the preview of your most recent photo in the bottom right corner of the screen. It will pulse three times in a row, and youll even be able to see a little bit of Smeargle in the preview. Once youre done, youll be able to go catch the Pokémon after returning to the map screen.

Smeargle is incredibly rare, however, so dont expect to find and catch it immediately. It could take hundreds of tries before the Pokémon pops up, so time to get to it.
