The Basics Of Gym Battles
Gyms work like this: A player takes over a gym by winning battles, claiming it for their team. That player can then leave one Pokémon from their collection behind to guard the gym, and other people from their same team can also add Pokémon to the gym, up to a total of six Pokémon. Other players can then challenge the gym and the Pokémon that are in it with their own team of Pokémon. Eventually, the gym will be defeated and change hands to another team, and the cycle begins again.
To challenge a gym, youll need to be close enough to the real-world location to select it, which will give the option to begin a battle. Youll be able to assemble a team of up to six of your own Pokémon to battle against that gyms team. If you win battles, the CP of the Pokémon in the gym will be reduced when it finally hits zero, that Pokémon is kicked out of the gym and returns to their trainer. You can battle a gym an unlimited number of times, so long as you have Pokémon with HP to fight in it so this is where the use of Potions and Revives comes in.
How To Defend Your Gym
If you manage to beat all the Pokémon at a given gym and knock them out of it, you can take it over for your team. Youll have to assign a Pokémon to defend the gym. For a brief time after conquering the gym, you will be the only person who can place a Pokémon there. You may even come across an unclaimed gym while wandering around. If you do, post up one of your stronger Pokémon to defend it on behalf of your team. Be aware that putting a Pokémon in a gym means it will be unavailable to you for other battles until it is defeated and returned to you.
The primary use for holding gyms is that it earns you Pokécoins, which you can spend on premium items like incubators and raid passes. A Pokémon earns coins for the time they spend in a gym, up to a total of 50, so it pays to get your Pokémon into gyms fairly often, especially into gyms that are about to host raids. Once the raid starts, your Pokémon will be inaccessible for battles, meaning theyll rack up time without the possibility of some other trainer knocking them out.

How To Make A Nice Throw In Pokemon Go
Once you have found your Pokémon – whether it was by finding the Pokémon Type by location, or from using the in-game radar or a tracker like Pokevision – you then have to then catch it inside a Pokéball.

How To Pick The Best Starter Pokmon
Like in the classic handheld video game series, you begin your adventure by picking a starter. At first, you will be surrounded with the three classic starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander. Choosing a starter isnt too important, as youll find higher-level Pokémon very soon at this point in the game, so your best bet is picking a starter Pokémon you have a good chance of evolving quickly.
Which Pokémon you choose should depend on where you live. If youre in a hotter, drier climate, a Charmander is the better choice. Choose a Squirtle if youre near water. Check The Evolution Path
The Pokedex shows how Pokemon evolve and it’s worth checking out what a Pokemon can evolve into before you drop Candy on it to power it up or evolve lesser forms. For example, if you have lots of Pidgy, and a few Pidgeotto, you probably don’t want to spend Candy evolving Pidgy into more Pidgeotto: you want to save them until you can evolve Pidgeotto into Pidgeot, because it needs more candy.
Making more mid-tier Pokemon is less useful than getting the rarer evolved form who will often be more useful in battle.
Also double-check the evolution path. Many Pokemon have another evolved form that opens up as the game expands. For example, with the addition of the Sinnoh region, new versions became available. You’ll need a Sinnoh Stone to evolve them, meaning some Pokemon you thought were finished can now do something else, so it’s worth going back to check.

How Do You Check Pokmon Ivs
Within Pokémon Go, you can check IVs by opening the menu on a Pokémons screen and clicking Appraise. Your chosen team leader will show you how your Pokémons stats fare.
A 100% IV would mean that Attack, Defense and Stamina are all at 15. Everything below that works out to being a percentage of the maximum possible stat of 45. For example: A Gengar with 10 Attack, 10 Defense and 12 Stamina would have an IV of 71%. In other words, 71% of 45.
The team leader will tell you how your Pokémon ranks using stars and a pretty easy to understand graphic using bars. If your Pokémon has three stars and a red stamp, it means that it has 100% perfect IVs. If it has three star with an orange stamp, it has around 80-99% perfect IVs. Two stars means 66-80% IVs and one star means 50-65% IVs.
Each tick of the stat bar is five stat points, so you can eyeball it out and see how good your Pokémons individual values are.

Go for walks! No, really, now that you have a designated Buddy you should go on strolls. Similar to egg-hatching, you can gain Candy for your buddy the more kilometers you rack up. Interestingly, different Pokemon require you walk different distances. For example, you need to walk 3 kilometers before you get a Candy for Slowpoke. You only get one candy after walking that specific distance, though.You can find out more about your Buddy’s progress by tapping the Trainer profile icon, then tapping the top of the screen, where your Trainer and Buddy are hanging out. A curveball is pretty much exactly what you’d imagine in Pokemon Go: it involves putting spin on a Pokeball as you throw it in order to make for something of a trick-shot. A curveball actually also carries a 10 XP bonus when it successfully lands and catches a Pokemon – and when combined with landing Nice, Great and Excellent Throws it’ll raise your chances further still of catching more difficult critters. A successfully landed curveball gives you a 1.7x bonus to your potential catch percentage – because of course, under the hood, Pokemon Go is all about the numbers.
In order to toss a curveball in Pokemon Go, hold the ball still in front of you with your finger on it and spin it in place, rotating around while maintaining contact with your device screen. When you then throw, the ball will curve based on the spin you put on it – it’ll curve left for clockwise spin and right for anti-clockwise spin. Throw in the opposite direction of the spin in order to send the ball to the middle of the screen.
Use Curveballs To Get A Bonus When Catching Pokemon
As well as the above timing and position-based captures, you can also throw Curveballs at Pokémon, which not only increases your chances of capture, but also gives you a little extra XP for your trouble, as you can see in the above list.
To throw a Curveball, start by holding the Pokéball and rotating it round. When you throw, it’ll then curve in the rotation you spun the ball if it’s clockwise, then it’ll go to the right, and if anti-clockwise, to the left. As such, if you throw it in the opposite direction, it’ll curve towards the centre.

What’s In A Nickname Change It
Changing your nickname is easy-peasy. Just tap the Pokeball on the main screen at the bottom > Settings > tap Change Nickname. You’ll get a warning that you can only change your nickname once, so choose wisely, and make it count! And make sure it’s at least PG-rated because other Trainers are going to see it.
Evolve To Raise Your Trainer Level
The nature of Pokémon Go means youll be collecting tons of Pokémon all the time, and not all of them will be in your slate of battle-ready fighters. Many common Pokémon will just be readily available and pile up in your Pokémon box until you transfer them away. These Pokémon arent useless, though youll want to keep evolving them when you get enough candies, even if you immediately transfer them right afterward. Evolving Pokémon gives you a big boost in experience points, so its one of the main ways to increase your trainer level. A higher trainer level means stronger Pokémon, plus big rewards each time you earn a new one, so you want to constantly be climbing higher and higher.
Generally, keep catching common Pokémon when they present themselves, but once youve got all the evolutions you need for a particular common Pokémon, narrow your focus to only those with low evolution costs. That way, you can earn experience fast off Pokémon that are everywhere, like Pidgeys, without gumming up your Pokémon Box with a ton of Zubats and Ekanses that are tougher to evolve. As you level up, you wont need to catch every Pokémon you see, so pay attention to which ones are worth grabbing, evolving, and using to level up for the sake of efficiency and saving your items and your time.

How To Choose Your Buddy
