Sword and Shield – Astral Radiance is the newest set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. With it comes 189 regular cards, including a suite of full- and alternate-art supporter cards and Pokémon V cards.

There are also a number of secret rare cards with special rainbow or golden colouring, and a 30-card trainer gallery miniature set, meaning there are a lot of Astral Radiance cards to chase.

Turn To The Dark Side With Dark Patch

The Dark Patch Item card deserves aglowing recommendation. It was originally printed many moons ago in the Black& WhiteDark Explorers expansion and was a core component of thewinning decks in the Masters Division at the 2012 and 2013 Pokémon WorldChampionships. More recently, the equivalent card for Metal-type Pokémon, Metal Saucer, has enabled Zacian V to succeed.

By maximizing thenumber of Dark Patch cards in a deck, players can quickly amass Darkness Energyonto the battlefield. This is perfect for Darkrai VSTAR because its Dark Pulse attack does 30 moredamage for each Darkness Energy attached to all of your Pokémon. Players caneven take advantage of Darkrai VSTAR’s Star Abyss Ability to reuse two copiesof Dark Patch, which effectively means the deck has access to six copies of thecard. If you combine this with Pokémon like Galarian Moltres V and Galarian Moltres, the damage done by Dark Pulse will quicklystart to add up.

First, you need to putDarkness Energy cards into the discard pile. Consider adding other cards from Sword& ShieldAstral Radiance, such as Trekking Shoes, Radiant Greninja,and Kamado, to achieve this. Once there’s loads of DarknessEnergy in play, Wyrdeer V canalso do an astronomical amount of damage with its Frontier Road Ability andPsyshield Bash attack.

This Ability makes it possible for one or more powerfulWater-type Pokémon to become battle-ready on the turn they are played.

A potential target forStar Portal is the newand rather thematicStarmie V.Its Energy Spiral attack is a great counterstrike to Arceus VSTAR‘s Trinity Nova, which accelerates Energyonto the opponent’s Pokémon. If the stars align, Starmie V can respond toArceus VSTAR with over 300 damage.

Flood the battlefieldwith Pokémon so Palkia can join in on the Knock Outs with its Subspace Swellattack. One of those Pokémon could be the new Keldeo,whose Line Force attack is similar but doesn’t hit as hardbut on the plusside, Keldeo gives up only one Prize card when Knocked Out and is unaffected byMiltank‘s Miracle Body Ability.

The new Irida is a great way to flushWater-type Pokémon out of the deck when required. As an added bonus, thisSupporter card also lets the player search for an Item card. Irida could beused to search up 3 Pokémon on your first turn via Battle VIP Pass, set up a Stage 2 Pokémon with Rare Candy, or find two Itemcards by seeking out Drizzile withthe Shady Dealings Ability.

Astral Radiance Booster Pack Contents

When you open a Booster Pack of Astral Radiance you get 10 cards, 1 energy card and a code card you can use online.

Each pack has a guaranteed pull of at least one Rare or above card. Most packs will include one Reverse Holo card and one Rare card.

However, there is a really rare chance of you pulling two Rare or higher cards.

Astral Radiance has introduced the new Team Gallery cards, which can replace the Reverse Holo/Reverse Rare Holo card when opening a pack.

A new type of rarity has been added called Radiant Rare. This rarity is similar to Amazing Rare rarity seen in the Vivid Voltage set.

Pokemon doesn’t release the chance of pulling certain cards from their Booster Packs. So, by compiling the hundreds and hundreds of packs opened, we can get a good idea of what those rates might actually be.

All it takes is one look at Origin Forme Dialga VSTARs ability to understand why its one of the best cards in Astral Radiance. Taking two turns in a row is undoubtedly incredibly powerful, especially in a format where two- and three-prize Pokémon make up the bulk of attackers. Imagine taking down a VMAX Pokémon with Star Chronos, claiming your three prize cards, then getting another turn!

Origin Forme Palkia V $7941

In order to unlock that one-hit knockout potential of Palkia VSTAR, youll need to evolve it from a Palkia V first. Thats likely not why this version is valued so highly, though: just look at that art.

Befitting the controller of all physical space, its a genius move to put Origin Forme Palkia in a bizarre, M.C. Escher-esque landscape of twisting geometry and floating pillars. This is some of the most striking art weve seen on a Pokemon card in a very long time, and it being part of such an essential deck only makes it better.

The Origin forms of Palkia and Dialga join the TCG in Astral Radiance and both are incredibly interesting additions to the roster. For example, Palkia VSTARis essentially a stronger Suicune V in that its Subspace Swell attack deals 60 damage plus 20 for each benched Pokemon which can deal up to 260 damage this, paired with Choice Belt or Inteleon , can knock out the most prevalent VSTAR Pokémon you will encounter during your games. Palkia can also be used alongside powerful Water Pokémon such as Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX, as its VSTAR power is the ability to ramp up your attached energy count. This means you are less reliant on common Supporter cards like Melony and Raihan, opening up the use of things like BosssOrders or the new Roxanne Supporter card that forces your opponent down to two cards if they have three Prizes or less remaining.

Astral Radiance was released on 27 May 2022 and has over 180 cards in the main set. Origin Forme Palkia Vstar

While a Pokémon’s VSTAR ability can only be used once per game, it’s generally overwhelmingly beneficial. Palkia’s is one of the best abilities in the Pokémon TCG and allows the player to attach up to three water energy cards to any of their Pokémon. Whether they’re on the bench or on the field.

This can be given straight to Palkia itself, making the card ready to deal a great deal of damage immediately with its attack. Its attack allows it to deal 20 damage for each Pokémon on both players’ benches and an additional 60. So if each player has their benches full, Palkia can do a total of 260 damage.

Astral Radiance is now available to purchase and we’ve compiled pull rate data to give you an idea of how rare certain cards are in this Pokemon TCG set.

Astral Radiance is the tenth expansion of the Sword & Shield series, following after Brilliant Stars expansion. And like Brilliant Stars, Astral Radiance also has the subset 30-card Trainer Gallery added to this set’s collection.

With a total of 246 cards to collect, Astral Radiance is quite a large set to collect. Like most Pokemon TCG products, you will need to open Booster Packs that come from a variety of products in order to “collect ’em all”.

This set also features the new rarity Radiant Rare, which has been seen in older expansion sets.

Origin Forme Palkia V

This version of Palkia is one of the more expensive cards in Astral Radiance and features the beautiful full art of Palkia. This card can be helpful for players who use stadium cards as Palkia’s first attack allows the player to take one stadium card from their deck into their hand.

It also possesses a second attack that deals a total of 200 damage. In addition to this, the opposing player’s Pokémon cannot attack their next turn. This attack can be used as many times as the player wants, making it a dangerous card to go up against.
