Mega Evolutions have been in Pokemon GO for a while now and the game provides multiple ways of earning that coveted Mega Energy.

Mega Evolution was first introduced in the X and Y series. Pokemon could hold specific stones that allowed them to Mega Evolve during battle. That often increases their power and sometimes changes their typing.

In Pokemon GO, Mega Evolutions occur when a player has harvested enough Mega Energy. The temporary transformation lasts for a certain time period in-game. There is also a Mega Energy for each Pokemon’s Mega Evolution. That means several different types will need to be obtained for each Pokemon.

In what is probably best described as a “fiasco” since its beginning, Mega Evolution has been one of the single most controversial issues with Pokemon Go since its initial release. Issues with accessibility, sustainability, and monetization of the system have been hot topics within the Pokemon Go community and social media since the very start in late August of 2020. After a short time, Niantic issued an official apology for the issues and promised to address them in a future update. And now it seems that these promises have indeed been kept, as Mega Evolutions are now more accessible than they have ever been in the past.

How Mega Evolution Works In Pokemon Go

Niantic has done a bit of a press tour ahead of tomorrows update, so we have a good idea of the general gameplay loop for Mega Evolution. We dont have the specific numbers yet, but well all know once the new feature is live. In the meantime, what we do know is that Mega Evolution will be a temporary transformation, fueled by a collectible resource called Mega Energy.

While the datamine leak suggested it could be universal, Niantic has confirmed that Mega Energy will be Pokemon-specific. For example, when you go through the tutorial research quests tomorrow, youll receive Mega Energy for Beedrill, one of the four included in the initial roll out. Once you collect enough Mega Energy, youll be able to check out what Mega Beedrill is capable of. But you wont have to grind the same amount every time. After the initial Mega Evolution, which will be more demanding, the requirement for subsequent transformations will drop significantly. The main hurdle will be getting to the first time, and getting the Pokemon added to the Mega Evolution Pokedex.

Can Existing Pokmon Mega Evolve In Pokmon Go

It was revealed in a Developer Insight video that any Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution in the core games will also be able to Mega Evolve in Pokémon Go, including the very first starter Pokémon you chose. Well, assuming you didn’t pick Pikachu. However, not all Pokémon capable of Mega Evolving in the core games can do so right now. Currently, only select species of Pokémon can Mega Evolve, while more species will be added over time.

As of September 3, 2020, the cost for subsequent Mega Evolutions has been dropped from 25% to 20% of the initial cost.

How Mega Evolutions Work

When you mega evolve a Pokémon, it becomes temporarily more powerful and gets a range of bonuses.

You can see which Pokémon can mega evolve by selecting them in your Pokémon storage.

If you see a Mega evolve button and Mega energy beside its candy indicator, you can mega evolve that Pokémon.

All Pokémon that can mega evolve are the final form of a Pokémon species. So while you can mega evolve Blastoise or Charizard, you cant do the same for Wartortle or Charmeleon.

For hardcore collectors, the main reason to get mega evolved Pokémon is that they appear permanently in your Mega Pokédex.

But, on the downside, your mega evolved Pokémon will only stay in its brawny new form for 8 hours. After that, it devolves into its original form.

Totally. To get a lot of Candy all at once, you need to hatch Pokémon Eggs. Whenever you get a Pokémon Egg from a Poké Stop, incubate it, walk it, and hatch it, you’ll get a good amount of Candy for its type. How To Get Mega Energy In Pokmon Go

Mega Energy is specific to each individual Pokémon – similar to how Candy works in the game. So if you want to Mega Evolve a Bulbasaur into Mega Bulbasaur, you need Bulbasaur Mega Energy.

Mega Energy is primarily found from completing Mega Raids, a type of Raid encounter featuring Mega Pokémon. The faster you win a Mega Raid, the more Mega Energy you receive and this amount was then increased in September 2020 thanks to feedback from players.

It’s also been confirmed as a reward in certain Special Research rewards you can receive Mega Energy for Beedrill, for example, by completing ‘A Mega Discovery’. Since Mega Energy is specific to each type of Pokémon, we suspect there will be more ways to get Mega Energy over time as they rotate in and out of Raids – though that is speculation on our part.

On Thursday, 3rd September 2020, Niantic announced that it was working on a number of adjustments to improve how Mega Energy is earned in Pokémon Go. These new Mega Energy earning methods include:

• Additional ways to earn Mega Energy from research tasks
• Walking with your buddy

Niantic also announced that it was working on an adjustment that would allow you to earn bonus Candy when you caught a Pokémon that shared the same type as your Mega-Evolved Pokémon.

What Mega Evolutions Are Available In Pokmon Go

As with normal Pokémon, you can see how many Mega Evolutions you have encountered in a specific section of the Pokédex.

The main game has 47 Mega Evolutions including the two with Charizard and Mewtwo, respectively but for the release of the mechanic within Pokémon Go, there will only be four Mega Evolutions available.

‘mega Gengar’ Dates And Times In Pokmon Go Explained

Mega Gengar is a special Timed Research questline running during the 2020 Halloween event and rewards you with Mega Gengar Candy.

You’ll only have access to NAME if you managed to complete the previous Timed Research questline, Mega Buddy Challenge.

The Mega Gengar quest is only available during the Halloween event which is running between Friday, 23rd October to Tuesday, 3rd November and has the following ending times:

• UK – 2am
• East Coast US – 9pm
• West Coast US – 6pm

The Mega Gengar quest consists of three quest steps, with rewards for every challenge and overall step. This questline is shorter than most research quests, because it’s a Timed Research quest and, once the Halloween event ends, you’ll never be able to access it again.

The purpose of this quest is to introduce Mega Gengar by rewarding you with a good amount of Mega Gengar Candy, which is used to conduct this Mega Evolution.

To round off the end of the year is the Holidays 2021 event, the Season of Heritage, the Stardust Challenge and a refreshed Go Battle League.Ongoing are Arlo, Cliff, Sierra counters and Giovanni counters.Other major updates in the past year include a level cap increase, the introduction of XL Candy, boosts to some XP sources and the addition of Platinum Medals.

Mega Evolution in Pokémon Go features your Pokémon becoming even more powerful while in their final evolution, and we might have an idea which will be the first capable of Mega Evolving. Its a way to make them even more powerful, but for a limited time. A Pokémon capable of Mega Evolving cannot remain in this state forever. When their cooldown expires, you have to activate it again to bring it back. Thats where the Mega Candy comes in and why you need to collect it.

Niantic has confirmed that Mega Candy is how your Pokémon uses its Mega Evolution. Mega Candy is your Pokémons Mega Energy, and it works like the traditional candy youve earned with other Pokémon. Rather than receiving it when you capture or transfer a Pokémon, you get it from completing Mega Raids, which are different raids than the traditional ones you see all over your town at Gyms. When you want to Mega Evolve your Blastoise, you need to find a Mega Raid to fight a Mega Blastoise to earn Mega Candy for your Pokémon. You dont have to use your Blastoise in the raid, though.

These have a particular marker next to them to help make them stand out. You can also earn Mega Energy by completing special research tasks, but those are clearly defined, such as A Mega Discovery. We previously thought Mega Candy and Mega Energy were separate entities, but they are one and the same.

What Is Candy In Pokemon Go And Why Do You Want It

Candy is what you use to evolve your Pokémon into their higher level forms and what you use to power them up to increase their CP and HP so they sit higher in Gyms and can battle more effectively.

Some Pokémon evolutions take as little as 12 Candy, like Pidgey others can take 50, 100, or even 400 . Typically, the more Candy you need, the more powerful the evolution. Each Pokémon species has its own specific type of Candy, so you need Dratini Candy to evolve Dragonair and Dragonite, and Bulbasaur Candy to evolve Ivysaur and Venusaur. You can’t use Dratini Candy to evolve Bulbasaur or vice versa.

Most recently, it’s also needed along with stardust to buy your Pokémon second Charge Moves for Trainer Battles, Raids, and Gyms. There, it ranges based on rarity, with common Pokémon only requiring 10 candy and Legendary, 100.

You can, however, use the new Rare Candy, often awarded when you win Battle Raids or complete Field Research, to power up any kind of Pokémon.

That makes both Candy and Rare Candy so incredibly valuable in Pokémon Go. At least if you want those 3000+ CP Dragonites, Tyranitars, Rhydon, and Vaporeon for your Battle Teams to take out Gyms and take on Raid Bosses.

How To Get Altaria Mega Energy In Pokemon Go

Mega Altaria is the mega-evolved form of Swablu, a dual-type Dragon/Flying Pokemon. To add it to your collection, youll need to obtain 200 Altaria Mega Energy. Subsequent mega-evolutions cost less, only 40 Altaria Mega Energy. There are three methods of collecting Altaria Mega Energy:

• Defeat Mega Altaria in a Raid Battle. You cant know in advance which mega Pokemon youll have to fight, but you can earn 35-90 Altaria Mega Candy if youre lucky.
• If youve already mega-evolved Altaria previously, make Swablu your buddy. Youll receive 5 Altaria Mega Energy for every kilometer walked.
• Make sure to check new research tasks each time Niantic introduces an event. None of the tasks can earn you Altaria Mega Energy as of this writing, but this may change in the new Event.
