She Has Anger Management Problems
Fans of the original Pokémon anime know that Misty is not once to hold back if she’s ever mad at anyone. Whenever Misty is upset at anyone, she’s shown to be very aggressive. Most of the time, her anger is directed towards Ash and she’s seen yelling at him. A lot of times though, she’s not afraid to use her fists to her advantage. In fact Misty has hit Ash so many times during the course of the original series that the English dubbed version of the Pokémon anime decided to cut some of the footage out. And while Ash isn’t the smartest guy out there , Misty’s anger towards him just seems a little too much.
Ashs Squirtle Threatened Her Life
You know Ashs Squirtle, that super-cute, reformed Tiny Turtle Pokémon? Well that adorable, aquatic reptile threatened to take Misty’s life, so theres that.
In the English dub, his threat was to simply dye her hair purple, and he basically says the same thing in Japanese, except they replaced y in dye with an i, and no purple hair was involved. Wholesome!
She Was Meant To Act As Eye Candy
Because the world is such a terrible and creepy place, not even the most innocent of concepts can escape unscathed.
According to the folks behind the Pokémon anime, Misty was added to the core team so she could act as eye candy for the boys watching the show.
Nope, shes not there because shes a cool character, shes there so young boys can ogle her.

Pokmon: How Old Is Misty
Misty may not be the star of the Pokémon franchise, but she’s pretty close – so how much do you know about her?
Promising to follow Ash to the ends of the earth until he replaced her destroyed bicycle, Misty was one of the first characters to accompany the lead in his journey to become a Pokémon Master alongside Brock. Her fiery attitude and chemistry with both Ash and Brock has made her a fan favorite character even decades after her debut in the series, and has returned multiple times to check up on Ash and his new friends.
Unlike Brock, Misty stopped traveling with Ash after the Sinnoh League was over and her bicycle was returned to her, giving her much less screen time to flesh out her character than either of her male traveling companions.
Who Is The Voice Behind Serena
As Serena was introduced well after the mass voice actor changeover that occurred when 4Kids lost their localization rights, Serena only ever had the one actor tied to her character. In the English dub, she is played by Haven Paschall, who also voiced Concordia, multiple Slurpuff in the series, and Jessie’s Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist. In the Japanese dub, she is played by Mayuki Makiguchi, who is most notable for playing multiple parts in the Japanese localization of Adventure Time.

Where Does Misty Own All Water Type Pokemon
Fans may remember that the Gym of Cerulean City is home to all Water-type Pokémon and is owned by Misty, at least in the Japanese version of Pokémon. While Misty is seen taking control of the Gym from her sisters in Season 5s season finale, it isnt made clear whether or not she has become the Gym Leader.
What Is Her Signature Pokemon
In the video games and manga, Misty’s signature Pokémon is her Starmie, which has been the final and most powerful member of her team in all instances except Let’s Go, where her Gyarados was one level higher. In the anime, it’s a little harder to nail down which of her Pokémon is her signature, since she doesn’t favor any Pokémon in particular in battle though is most often seen using Staryu or struggling to make Psyduck usable. As she is at the present time, her signature anime Pokémon is most likely Gyarados, since it has made the most appearances in battle.

Where Are Misty’s Parents
The only members of Misty’s family the audience is ever shown are her four sisters. Like with other trainers in Pokémon, it’s likely that both of her parents are on their own Pokémon journeys away from their family and the Cerulean gym was handed down to her from her parents.

In the manga adaptation of the anime, Pocket Monsters: The Animation, it is revealed that she and her sisters were actually abandoned by their parents when the role of being gym leaders become too much to handle, subsequently leaving it to their children. Since many aspects of this manga have since been altered in the anime, it is unknown if this is actually canon to her story.
Pokmon The Series: The Beginning
Misty
In the series, Misty first is seen wearing a yellow crop top with red suspenders and light denim shorts. Her whole midriff is showing, but her belly button is not usually drawn. Her shoes were colored red and white, with a yellow streak in the middle. Misty’s personality in the anime can be complex at times. She can be very nice to her friends but will then quickly change moods in a short amount of time, particularly anger. She is quite proficient in anything having to do with water, such as fishing, swimming, and overall Water Pokémon training. She also encountered Team Rocket many times and would assist Ash and Brock in stopping them. Even though she wanted to stay with Ash, Misty felt obligated to watch over her family’s Gym since her sisters would be gone on their world trip. The two went their separate ways, and Misty resumed Gym Leader duties at Cerulean City’s Gym.

Who Is The Voice Actor For Misty In Pokemon Black
Additionally, she appears on Pokémon Channel on a full Japanese Pichu Bros. Disc. The disc differs from the other Japanese disc, as Mistys voice actor is the narrator. Misty, as well as most of the gym leaders in Pokémon history, reappear in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 as part of the Pokémon World Tournament.

Do Her Sisters Ever Appear In The Games
While Misty appears in every game that takes place in the Kanto region, her three sisters often do not. However, in the Pokémon Yellow remakes, Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, they act as the gym trainers that the player character must defeat before being able to challenge Misty. Since the Pokémon they use are more in line with the ones used by the original gym trainers in generation one, their chosen teams are slightly different from the ones they use in the anime.
Who Is The Voice Behind Misty
Misty’s voice is fairly recognizable for any fans who grew up watching the original series of Pokémon, but once 4Kids lost the rights to the English localization, her voice actor changed for her returns in the Alola seasons. Rachael Lillis played the part while under 4Kids, which was her journeys from the first episode up until the Battle Frontier arc where she made a guest appearance. In all of her returning parts, she was played by Michele Knotz. Funnily enough, both of these actors also voiced Jesse, though Michele now also voices May and Nurse Joy.

She Abuses Her Psyduck
Ever since joining the team, Mistys poor Psyduck has faced constant abuse at her hands.
Hes been on the receiving end of physical threats and actual violence, not to mention an endless slew of verbal assaults. Shes even tried abandoning the pathetic duck a multitude of times and, at least once, attempted to sell it!
In The Japanese Anime Misty Never Became A Gym Leader
After Ash, Brock and Misty decide to split up in Season 5’s 63rd episode “Gotta Catch Ya Later!,” it is then that Misty decides to return to the Cerulean City Gym. Fans may remember that the Gym of Cerulean City is home to all Water-type Pokémon and is owned by Misty, at least in the Japanese version of Pokémon. While Misty is seen taking control of the Gym from her sisters in Season 5’s season finale, it isn’t made clear whether or not she has become the Gym Leader.
However much later, in the episode “Cerulean Blues,” the answer to this perplexing question is finally given. The original anime explained that while Misty was in control of a lot of aspects of the Gym, she wasn’t the leader yet. However the English dubbed version that aired in the US and internationally, changed Misty’s fate, giving her the much deserved role of Gym Leader.

She Has A Bad Relationship With Her Sisters
Not only did Mistys parents abandon her, but her closest family members, her sisters, dont seem to care all that much for her, either.
Youd think that theyd all grow close after such a traumatic experience, but its the exact opposite.
Worse yet, the absent parents were implied to have favored Mistys sisters over her, so the amount of psychological trauma this poor girl has to deal with is even more crushing.
Is Her Manga Team Any Different To Her Anime One
It’s fairly common for the anime counterpart of a video game or manga character to have quite a different team to their original versions, though Misty is something of an exception. While she has fewer Pokémon at her disposal, they are all relatively similar and have many crossovers. The major changes are that her Poliwhirl didn’t evolve in the manga and she also has a Shellder and Lapras in The Electric Tale of Pikachu, two Pokémon that he hasn’t ever had, but were both caught be a main character in the series, with Ash’s Lapras and the Shellder that Jesse briefly caught.

Let’s Go Pikachu And Let’s Go Eevee
Misty resembles her anime counterpart. She has orange hair held in a spiky ponytail and is garbed in a new outfit that is similar to what her anime counterpart wears. She wears a white and blue sleeveless shirt, blue denim shorts, and red, blue, and white sneakers. Underneath her clothes, she wears a red bikini top with a blue gem in the middle and matching red bikini bottoms that resemble boyshorts. Like her Red and Blue outfit, her midriffs and belly button are shown.

Like most of the series, I’d recommend watching the English subbed version of Advanced Generations. However, in the dub you amusingly get to hear voice actress Veronica Taylor talk to herself, as she plays both Ash and May.
Though we lamented at Misty’s loss, May helped expand the Pokemon world by showing that not all its inhabits are in love with Pokemon, and we enjoyed watching May gradually warm up to the creatures alongside her Torchic. Plus, her connection to Gym Leader Norman introduced a intriguing conflict when Ash battled him should she root for her friend or family? Unfortunately, May also brought along her little brother Max, an annoyance we do our best to forget.
Far from perfect, May is nonetheless a worthy and interesting companion.

Misty Is A Picky Eater
In the series Misty, Brock and Ash have travelled to different parts of the world and tried different foods from all around the world. With that, there are two things Misty just can’t eat: peppers and carrots. Despite the character’s carrot colored hair, she simply doesn’t like the vegetable and dislikes them almost as much as she fears Bug Pokémon. Misty also doesn’t care for peppers, which makes one think that her dishes of choice must be really bland. What’s interesting to note is that a lot of the dishes that Misty is seen eating in Pokémon simply can’t be eaten without a little spice, so her avoidance of pepper is quite odd. Hopefully someday, us Misty fans will get an explanation for why Misty’s so anti carrots and peppers.
Where Is Serena Now
As was commonplace with the Pokémon series, there are very few instances where a character will travel with Ash across multiple regions, with the only exceptions being Brock and Misty. At the end of the Kalos series, Serena decides that she needs some more experiences as a performer and is told to travel to the Hoenn region and take part in their contests. As of now, she is likely still in Hoenn performing in said contests, though considering the current format of Pokémon Journeys, it’s likely that Ash may run into her again sooner rather than later.

Squirtle Almost Murdered Misty
Squirtle was the Water-type starter Pokémon for players in the Kanto region. Choosing Squirtle was a loose analogue to picking the “medium” difficulty in a regular video game. Bulbasaur will steamroll the first two Gyms, but his final evolution is not that strong . Charmander will have a hard time with the first two Gyms, but his final evolution is very powerful. Squirtle is considered to be somewhere in the middle in terms of viability. The whole “Starter=difficulty” thing was dropped in later games, and players can now choose any starter they like, without having to worry about the long term ramifications.
Like all of the other Kanto starters, Squirtle found his way onto Ash’s team. In the episode “Here Comes the Squirtle Squad”, a group of sunglasses wearing Squirtle are manipulated by Meowth into believing that Ash & his friends are the bad guys. Ash is forced to battle one of the Squirtle squad. During the fight, a wild Goldeen injuries Pikachu. With Pikachu incapacitated, the Squirtle Squad kidnap Ash and his friends. Ash convinces the Squirtles to let him go and get medicine for Pikachu. Meowth translates the Squirtles threat to Ash – that if he doesn’t come back by noon tomorrow, then the Squirtle Squad will dye Misty’s hair purple.
How Many Pokmon Does She Have
As a performer, Serena doesn’t need as many Pokémon on her team as a regular trainer, and, as such, her team is comparatively small against the likes of May and Dawn. In the anime, Serena has only three Pokémon: the Fire starter Braixen, Pancham, and Sylveon, giving her one of the smallest teams for a main character in the show. Her manga counterpart, on the other hand, has a few changes as well as a near full team. Y’s final team is Fletchinder, Sylveon, Greninja, Rhyhorn, and an Absol that can Mega Evolve.

The Running Joke Of Property Damage
As the first of Ash’s many female traveling companions, Misty set the mold for those to follow. She set certain traditions down, including this strange one. Ash’s Pikachu destroyed her bike in the first episode and the reason Misty was following Ash was to get him to pay her back. Believe it or not, this bike destruction became a running gag throughout the anime. Both May and Dawn would have their bikes destroyed by Pikachu in the same way, while Bonnie and Iris would be electrocuted directly. It wasn’t until Serena showed up that this gag ended.
Creepily Provocative Manga Art
We realize we keep mentioning that Misty is a Literal Child, but it bears repeating, especially with this entry.
The Electric Tale of Pikachu is an excellent manga adaptation of the franchise, but the man behind the work is known for some er exaggerated proportions, and a general amount of inappropriate content, not to mention a line of manga exclusively for adults.
And yes, the CHILD, Misty, is a victim of these artistic choices.

Shell Never Return Full Time
Misty was ousted from the series main cast somewhat unceremoniously, but shes made a few cameo appearances since then, which is great for her fans.
Alas, the team behind the anime has stated that cameos are about the only thing we should be expecting from our favorite water-type Gym Leader.
This poor girl cant seem to get a break!
She & Ash Have The Same Number Of Water Pokmon
While Ash’s goal is to be the best Pokémon Trainer out there, Misty just wants to be a Water Pokémon Master. Most Pokémon gym leaders only to try to get particular types of Pokémon and Misty is no exception. The aspiring Water-type Pokémon Master has been filling up her team with members like Psyduck, Azurill, Starmie and Goldeen, but strangely enough she doesn’t have more Water Pokémon than Ash.
Considering that Ash wants to be the best Pokémon Trainer out there, it’s not surprising that he has a lot of Pokémon, including plenty of Water Pokémon. However, Misty has shown herself to be extremely capable, so her having the same number of Pokémons as Ash is a little mystifying.

Where Does Misty Go In The Pokemon Chronicles
Misty becomes a central character in Pokémon Chronicles, a spin-off to the Pokémon anime, and appears in several specials and episodes. She maintains her friendship with Ash and eventually goes to Hoenn to meet up with him, meeting May and Max, and sees him again when he returns to Pallet following a long stint in Hoenn.
