Pokemon Go Trading is now available to everyone who has passed level 10 and is ready to swap their Friend codes with other players.
The new system is pretty robust and comes with some essential rules that can’t be bypassed.
These have been put in place by Niantic to stop players abusing the system, something thats already a problem with spoofers and bots.
So while fans cant expect to see a worldwide trading network springing up anytime soon, there are some pretty cool new features to try out.
Pokemon Go Trading is a new feature that can only be used through the Friends tab.
Niantic have made it possible for Friends who are close by one another to exchange Pokemon.
Trading occurs in-person and in real-time so youll need to be in close range of your friend in order to trade Pokémon.
When your in the same location, heading over to the Friends tab and tapping on the Trade screen will start a session.
The good news is that by completing a trade, not only will you get a new Pokemon, but you will also get Candy as well.
Trading comes with some rules though, which govern how many trades can be performed in a day, and how much it will cost to complete the swap.
Every trade requires that you and your trading partner spend some Stardust.

Thanks to an update earlier this year, Trading is now available in Pokemon GO. It’s something that plaers have been asking for since day one, and fulfills its promise of allowing trainers to swap pokemon and complete their Pokedexs. In this Pokemon GO Trading Guide, we’ve got a Trading Stardust Cost Chart, as well as everything you’ll need to know about Trading in Pokemon GO. We’ll cover the basics, and also take a look at how friendship level affects Trading cost in Pokemon GO.
Pokmon Go Trade Evolution List And How Trade Evolutions Work
Before we get into the specifics of trading itself, let’s start with 2020’s big new feature – trade evolutions.
In the mainline Pokémon games, there’s a set of Pokémon that can only be evolved if they’re traded with another player. When Pokémon Go was released, these Pokémon were all evolved through candy, due to the lack of trading.
Now, however, trade evolution has been incorporated into Pokémon Go, offering a different evolution method for a specific group of Pokémon. These Pokémon are:
- Kadabra
- Phantump
- Pumpkaboo
Once you’ve traded one of the above Pokémon, the candy cost for evolving them into their third and final evolution will be reduced to zero. This will allow you to quickly add this new Pokémon to your Pokédex, while also gaining a powerful new team member.
If you don’t have any fellow trainers to trade with, however, you’ll still be able to evolve these Pokémon with the candy.
It costs 100 candy to evolve Kadabra, Machoke, Graveler and Haunter from Gen 1.
It costs 200 candy to evolve Boldore, Gurrdurr, Karrablast and Shelmet from Gen 5.
It’s also important to note that Pokémon that evolve using a combination of items and candy in Pokémon Go don’t receive the trade evolution discount. Even though, in the mainline games, a requirement of their evolution is being traded with another player.

Stardust Is A Very Valuable Resource Within Pokmon Go That May Deter Trainers From Trading However Increasing Your Friendship Level Will Reduce The Stardust Cost When Trading With Another Trainer
Currently, there are five Friendship levels within Pokémon GO. These levels are Friend, Good Friend, Great Friend, Ultra Friend, and Best Friend. As each Friendship level is obtained, Trainers will earn additional benefits of lower Stardust costs during Trading.
When a Trainer initially becomes Friends with another Trainer, they will be in the Friend level. While a Trainer is at this Friendship level, only non-Shiny, non-Legendary, and non-Regional Pokémon can be traded. Owned Pokémon will cost 100 Stardust while unowned Pokémon will cost 20,000 Stardust.
After a Trainer becomes Good Friends with another Trainer, they will be able to trade Shiny, Legendary, and Regional Pokémon. Owned Shiny and Legendary Pokémon will cost 20,000 Stardust, while owned Regional and other Pokémon will cost 100 Stardust.
Although these Stardust amounts are not of that much of a concern, the unowned Shiny and Legendary Pokémon at the Good Friends level cost a whopping 1,000,000 Stardust. However, the unowned Regional and other Pokémon are a much more manageable 20,000 Stardust.

When a Trainer becomes Great Friends with another Trainer, they will see the owned Shiny and Legendary Pokémon Stardust cost decrease to 16,000. The owned Regional and other Pokémon will also decrease to just 80 Stardust. Unowned Shiny and Legendary Pokémon will drop to 800,000 while unowned Regional and other Pokémon will drop to 16,000.
Using Stardust To Trade
Trading Pokémon with friends also costs Stardust, with Legendary and new Pokémon costing more. As you rank up your friendship, the Stardust cost of the trades decreases.
Stardust trade costs vary, depending on what youre trading. Trading a Legendary or Shiny Pokémon that your friend doesnt have yet can cost up to 1,000,000 Stardust. The trade cost decreases to 800,000 for Great Friends, 80,000 for Ultra Friends, and 40,000 for Best Friends.

Pokemon Go Trading Costs
The actual cost of Pokemon Go trading is quite a complex thing. Every trade will cost you Stardust, and that price will depend on a number of factors: whether you’ve already caught the Pokemon yourself, your friendship level with the player you’re about to trade with, and the Pokemon you’re actually trading – Standard vs Special trades.

Pokmon Go Special Trades Explained
In trading, not all Pokémon are weighted equally. They are classed under two types:
Standard Pokémon Trades:
- Forms you don’t have in your Pokédex
- Any other Pokémon not in your Pokédex that isn’t Legendary or Shiny
Special Trades:
It should be reiterated that Mythical Pokémon – such as Mew – cannot be traded under any circumstances.
Standard and Special Trade differences
There are two main differences with Standard and Special Trades. For one, you can only do one Special Trade per day, with anyone. This resets at the same time PokéStops and Research quests do .
The other is the Stardust cost. This is where things get a little more complicated. If you are trading Legendaries and Shinies you both own, the cost is the same as a Standard Pokémon you don’t own, such as a regional or a Unown form. But if one of you don’t have a Legendary or Shiny in a trade, then the cost jumps up massively.

How To Trade In Pokmon Go: Step
1. After you’ve launched the app, you should be able to spot your in-game character on a map, surrounded by Pokémon. Now tap on the avatar icon located on the bottom left corner of the screen.
2. Next, select the “friends” tab located at the top right corner of your screen to proceed.
3. Go ahead and tap on your in-game friend that you intend to trade with.
4. Once you’ve opened your friend’s in-game profile page, tap on the “trade” button that should be located at the right side of your screen.
5. Make sure that both you and your friend are standing no more than 100 meters apart from each other in real life. Next, select the Pokémon that you wish to trade.
6. Confirm your selection by tapping on the green “confirm” button on the left. Wait for the other Trainer to do the same.
7. Congrats! You have now completed your Pokémon Go trade. Your new Pokmon should now appear in your Pokémon menu and your Pokédex.
