Sword & Shield Pokdex

How Many Pokemon are in Pokemon Sword and Shield?

This is a list of the Pokémon from the Galar region in Pokémon Sword & Shield. As usual there are many new Pokémon, but the region also includes old favorites too!

Sword & Shield differ from previous games in that only Pokémon from the Galar Pokédex can be found in the game. Pokémon outside of this list cannot be transferred into the game at all. However, with the addition of the Expansion Pass the number of Pokémon has since expanded – see The Isle of Armor Pokédex and The Crown Tundra Pokédex for details.

You may also wish to check out the Unobtainable Pokémon page, to see if your favorite Pokémon is not currently available.

How Many Total Pokemon Are In The Pokedex

So if you have yet to hear the news, there is no national dex in Pokemon Sword & Shield which means that there are several hundreds of Pokemon that have been cut from the game and cannot be transferred in from other titles.

There are about 1000 total Pokemon across the board now, but for Sword and Shield, there are only 400 Pokemon that are in the game.

Game Freak has also stated that no plans are in motion to add in any more Pokemon via updates or patches in the future.

Its unfortunate that Pokemon veterans wont be able to bring in some of their favorite Pokemon into these new games but there are still a ton of Pokemon available when you really think about it.

Hopefully, this answered your question about how many Pokemon there are in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Crown Tundra: Dynamax Adventures Shiny Rate

Catching shinies is even easier for players who have access to the Sword and Shield Expansion Pass. You’ll be able to visit a snowy region known as the Crown Tundra. Within the caves of a snow-topped mountain, players join together to battle against several Dynamax Pokémon one after the other until finally culminating in a battle against a Legendary Pokémon.

Okay, yeah.

I myself have caught a shiny while participating in the Dynamax Adventures with a Shiny Charm. One thing to note is that the Pokémon don’t appear shiny until the battles are completely over. So when you get to that page where you only get to choose one Pokémon to keep, you’re going to want to check all of the Pokémon you caught along the way to see if any have unique coloring.

What Is Encounter Chaining

Encounter Chaining is when you encounter the same Pokemon over and over again while attempting to hunt a Shiny Pokemon of that specific Pokemon. To properly increase your Encounter Chain you need to defeat the same Pokemon over and over without fainting another Pokemon that isnt the one you are Chaining. Each Encounter the game will roll whether or not your encounter will be a shiny. The reason you want to build up these encounter chains is to vastly improve your odds at finding a Shiny Pokemon of the Pokemon you are chaining.

If Cramorant Uses Dive Or Surf It Will Pick Up A Fish To Use As A Weapon In Battle

“Cramorant’s Ability, Gulp Missile, is a new Ability introduced in these titles, and it can be triggered during battles. After Cramorant uses Surf or Dive, it will return with a catch in its mouth. If it takes damage while in this state, Cramorant will retaliate by spitting out its catch at the attacker!”

Pokmon Sword And Shield Expansion Pass: Crown Tundra Expansion

Many Pokémon from previous generations that weren’t in the core Gen 8 game are returning with the Expansion Pass. If one of your favorites didn’t feature in the Galar Pokédex, you might just be able to capture it in the Crown Tundra. While the full list of Pokémon isn’t confirmed, a data leak emerged earlier this year that lines up with the Pokémon we’ve seen in trailers and official materials. For now, we’re going to include all Pokémon from the data leak, but note that some of them might not actually appear in the Crown Tundra and that a few more Pokémon might sneak in. Legendary and mythical Pokémon, as well as Ultra Beasts, are listed separately below.

This is a new way to battle that involves making your Pokémon huge and more powerful. Players are only able to use this ability once per battle, and the Pokémon will only remain in its Dynamax form for three consecutive turns before returning to normal. Dynamaxing can be done during gym battles, raids, and trainer battles. You’re going to need to master Dynamaxing if you want to take on Max Raid Battles and effectively defeat gym leaders.

Which Pokmon Can I Transfer Into Sword And Shield

Pokémon Sword and Shield works with Pokémon HOME, a cloud service that allows you to transfer, store, and trade Pokémon. Despite there only being 400 Pokémon in the Galar region Pokedex, players can transfer several Pokémon not originally found in Gen 8 into Sword and Shield from Pokémon HOME.

Encounter Streak Catch The Same Pokmon 25+ Times

If you played the Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! games, you might be aware of something called catch combos. This means that you fight the same Pokémon, say Nicket, repeatedly without fighting any others. Each time you catch the same Pokémon, the chances of finding a shiny increase. After you’ve caught the Pokémon 25 times in a row, your chances of catching a shiny go up from 1/4096 to 1/2048. However, the percentage can’t go up anymore after 25 chain encounters. Whenever you have a high encounter streak for the same Pokémon, that creature is more likely to pop up, which also helps.

So basically, aim to catch the same Pokémon 25+ times in a row to seriously increase your chances of happening upon a shiny. This process can take hours to pay off, but it’s fun flaunting that Pokémon once you’ve caught it. If you accidentally run into another Pokémon other than the one you’re focusing on, run away. Keep in mind that accidentally catching or defeating another Pokémon will break your combo, and then you’ll have to start your combo streak over.

A Pokémon fleeing from you in battle could break the streak. However, we haven’t been able to verify this for sure.

Pokemon Sword & Shield Review: A Fun Entry in a Stale ...

Encountering and fainting the same Pokemon over and over will increase your chain. Encountering another Pokemon while in a chain will not disrupt the chain unless you catch or faint the Pokemon that is not the one you are chaining. Running away from an encounter whether its the Pokemon you are Chaining or not will not disrupt the Chain but will not increase it either.

How Many New Pokemon Are In Pokemon Sword And Shield

Pokemon Sword and Shield features nearly 100 new Pokemon, which includes both brand new Pokemon species and regional variants of existing Pokemon species. Pokemon Sword and Shield, Game Freak’s newest Pokemon games, were released today. The new games are set in the Galar region, a new area of the Pokemon world inspired by the British isles. Players will explore rolling hills, mysterious forests, and a wide “Wild Area” – a new open-world area with a plethora of Pokemon species and an ever-changing weather system.

As with past Pokemon games, Pokemon Sword and Shield introduces a number of new Pokemon species. The games include 80 new Pokemon species, ranging from the starter Pokemon Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble to the new Legendary Pokemon Zacian and Zamazenta. The game also includes 13 new “Galarian forms” – new variants of existing Pokemon species that adapted to the wildly different environment and atmospheres of the Galar regions. These include Pokemon like Weezing and Zigzagoon, well-known Pokemon that take on brand new forms and roles in the Pokemon games. One new addition to Pokemon Sword and Shield are special Galarian evolutions – some existing species with Galarian variants gain new evolved forms. One example is Obstagoon, the evolved form of the Galarian Linoone.

What Region Do They Take Place In

Generation 8 takes place in the entirely new Galar Region, which is based on the U.K. As the Pokémon Company states, this region is “filled with idyllic countryside and contemporary cities vast plains and snow-covered mountains.”

There’s a lot to explore in this new region, including the expansive Wild Area where you can encounter several different Pokémon. You’ll discover everything from large open fields, to forests, to industrial cities, and countryside villages.

How Do Pokmon Encounters Work

How to COMPLETE The Pokédex In Pokemon Sword & Shield FAST!

As in previous Pokémon games, players come across monsters in tall grass and caves when wandering about on routes. There are both random encounters and open-world encounters. However, you can only catch Pokémon up to a certain level. You increase your catch level by defeating gyms and acquiring badges.

The Wild Area: In this sprawling section of the Galar region, the Pokémon you encounter are determined by in-game weather and your location on the map. Pokémon in this section wander freely, and you can attract them by whistling, which is especially helpful for attracting high-flying creatures.

Duraludon’s Arms Are Strong Enough To Crush Boulders

“Duraludon live in caves and mountainous areas. Their two arms have slightly different shapes from each other, and they use these to grind down rock surfaces for food. They share their habitat with Tyranitar, and these two Pokémon are often seen battling each other in the mountains of the Galar region.”

How Do You Connect With Friends In Dynamax Adventures

One of the better new additions to come out of the Expansion Pass DLC for Sword & Shield is the Dynamax Adventures cave, where players can delve into multiple Max Raid battles in a row in an attempt to catch powerful Pokemon, some of which even being legendary. However, joining a friend’s run of this new game mode has proven to be tricky for some, particularly if they are trying to connect online. Thankfully, this process isn’t too difficult if players know what they are meant to do.

In the menu screen where players are given the option to invite other players, pressing the + button will open up the password menu where a password can be set. In order for everyone to join the same instance of the game, each player needs to have their internet settings turned on and set the same password, something which was made easier with one particular update that increases the password length from four to eight numbers, making it much harder to accidentally get in on someone else’s game. This same process is used when players are using a local connection, though their internet connection doesn’t need to be turned on in this instance.

Can You Have Multiple Saves

The save data for every game on the Switch is linked to the particular user profile the game is opened under, meaning if players create a new user profile, they can start a new game without losing the progress they have already made. This is a very easy way for players who don’t have many people to trade with to obtain all three starter Pokemon, as well as getting multiples of one-off Pokemon like the cover legendaries and Eternatus. Players can also transfer between different save files by using Pokemon Home, as it is linked to that particular game rather than the user profile.

Can You Skip Cut Scenes

When playing through the game for the second time, it can be tempting to turn the Skip Movies feature on, as at first glance it sounds like it gives players the option to skip any cut scenes.

However, this option should be chosen carefully, as it doesn’t give players the option to skip cut scenes. Instead, it automatically skips all cut scenes, no matter how important to the story they are. Like the Casual Controls option, this is probably one that should be left alone unless players are looking to speed-run the game.

The Differences Between The Two Versions

As with any game in the core Pokémon series, Gen 8 releases with two versions: Sword and Shield. A handful of Pokémon are exclusive to either game, meaning you’ll have to trade with a friend to get the Pokémon exclusive to the game you don’t have. Additionally, some of the gyms you encounter will be different depending on which version of the game you purchase.

Pokmon Sword Or Shield: Version

From the early days, the main difference between the Pokémon releases has been that one version will have Pokémon the other doesnt and vice versa. The same is still true for Sword and Shield.

For some players this wont make an iota of difference, but if you have a favorite creature that the game just isn’t worth playing without, its worth making sure they won’t be exclusive to a particular version before you make that Pokémon Sword or Shield decision. It’s always possible to find someone to trade with if you have missed out and you can always buy both versions, if you want to but that’s a bit of a rigmarole and can be avoided if you want an easier life.

Below are the version exclusive Pokémon for Sword and Shield, with their respective types.
